RafflesCity September 12th, 2003, 10:03 PM I went up to the 70th floor of the Westin Stamford, which boasts what is arguably the best views of Singapore. There is a bar and a restaurant up there. Since I didnt want high tea, I settled for a Bloody Mary at the bar and here are the pics.

I stayed on the 52nd floor of this hotel in 2002... nice view and even nicer... having a balcony 52 floors up!
baqthier September 14th, 2003, 09:30 AM Superb shots! Is the Johor Bahru skyline visible from the observation deck?
RafflesCity September 15th, 2003, 02:02 AM Thanks everyone! I'm glad you all liked the pics so far.
@baqthier, I'm not 100% sure if JB skyline can be seen, but a small cluster and mountains can be seen in the distance on a clear day. But you can easily see Indonesia to the south;)
@szehoong..sure why not..we can go there next time:)

Recently I've seen other pics of Singapore on the site, particularly by you Raffles and huaiwei. So incredibly vast.
RafflesCity September 19th, 2003, 03:34 AM Here is the view that greets you as you walk out the elevators on the 70th floor.http://www.skyscrapercity.com/photopost/data/503/103westin14.jpg
huaiwei September 19th, 2003, 07:35 AM Goodness....if I were to trip as I go down those stairs...:D
I personal favourites were just about any picture that shows anything OTHER then the CBD and Marina Centre. ;) Its always refreshing to see new pictures of the rest of the city, which are so unseen. I will try a trip up too, but raff have to tell me where is the lift! :D
Thanks to museumb and company too. Hope you guys like our "unorthodox" pictures! :D
Cliff September 19th, 2003, 05:04 PM They are amazing!
I think you should be able to see Johor Baru from there, but the most impressive thing is not that the building is so tall that you could see so far from it, but that the building is so tall that you could see it from that far!
I stayed at the EDEN Hotel in JB last year, and it's only 16 stories high, but from the bar on top, I could see the huge grey skyline of Singapore rising from the forest.
And when I went to Batam, I could see Singapore's skyline with the distinctive shadows of the trio from my hotel room(Holiday Inn Batam), and at night, you could see Republic Plaza's top sparkling like a star!
I have always dreamed of making that top few floors of the EQUINOX into my house.:D
huaiwei September 19th, 2003, 05:10 PM Cliff, your describtions such as I could see the huge grey skyline of Singapore rising from the forest.andyou could see Republic Plaza's top sparkling like a star!reminds me of star wars! :D I can almost imagine the former. Thank goodness our tallest hills are shorter then the buildings! ;)
weirdo September 20th, 2003, 06:23 AM nice pics david. a visit to this building is a must for every tourist and local too!. i will rate your collection 10/10.
kiku99 September 20th, 2003, 09:51 AM great photos. I just realized that Singapore also have many white buildings just like Bangkok.

huaiwei September 20th, 2003, 05:28 PM Well it seems that only american buildings tend to be brown? ;) Anyway that picture will probably be passed off as any other Asian city by people unfamiliar with it, dunt you guys think so? :D

@weirdo, thank you so much!!:D
those white blocks in the pics are residential buildings. I'm not sure but are they outside the CBD or Golden Shoe?
TYW September 20th, 2003, 05:43 PM nice view. the room rates must be extremely expensive

I agree. It looks like Bangkok in a way. But if you see apt. buildings., you may think that it's Seoul.
Anyways, nice pic though.

Well.....the buildings are tall no doubt but Singapore's geographical terrain is flat.....so that compliments each other! :D
Anyway I would love to see Singapore from Batam too! ;)
Blabbyboy September 26th, 2003, 02:22 AM GREAT PICS!!! WHY HAVE I NEVER BEEN UP THERE EVERY TIME I GO TO SINGAPORE?!!!!
Financial district as usual looks great.
But Suntec City...somebody please demolishlah!
huaiwei September 26th, 2003, 06:45 AM Hahaha!! You come here often, Blabby? ;)
Well...Suntec was built by the Hongkongers...that might give you a clue of why they look the way they do. :D

IMO, the only thing good about the Suntec City development is the water fountain and the convention centre. The office towers are pretty ugly.

That explains the tacky exterior outline-lighting of all 4 tower blocks added sometime after completion of construction, presumably to jazz up the towers' appearance by night ;)
Ever noticed that all the highrises in the Marina Centre area are monotonously white/off-white? Some colour-diversity in the area (eg. the colour of Parkview Sq) would be nice. :D

RafflesCity August 13th, 2005, 07:07 PM I didnt notice any signboard there as it was dark, but I could smell freshly laid tar of a road. hmm...
hyacinthus August 13th, 2005, 07:11 PM Someone told me that they might be getting ready for Cirque de Soleil, Quidam show.
I have confirmed it by enlarging one pic I took yesterday trying to zoom into the banner of the fenced up plot.

RafflesCity August 13th, 2005, 07:14 PM sorry but whats that?

hyacinthus August 13th, 2005, 07:16 PM Yes. You can find out more about it here:

RafflesCity August 13th, 2005, 07:19 PM oh ic..in that case then its not a real permanent thingy...probably the land was rented for 'interim' uses like this performance.

RafflesCity November 29th, 2005, 03:11 PM thanks :)
I think the Bras Basah area has progressively become more colourful, perhaps in line with the vision for the area.
RafflesCity May 20th, 2006, 04:48 AM An updated view, now with One Raffles Quay extending the skyline to the left.

babystan03 May 20th, 2006, 05:14 AM Nice..... Another change coming up with the Sail....
RafflesCity May 20th, 2006, 05:26 AM I think Raffles Quay really does justice to the skyline from this angle, and gives it more mass, while respecting the 'trio'. Cant wait for the Sail too!
Singapor3 May 20th, 2006, 05:43 AM What a nice view from the Equinox restaurant, does entry requires any entrance fees?
RafflesCity May 20th, 2006, 05:46 AM There is a choice of the bar, or the restaurant.
The restaurant has the main skyline view, but you can still get a pic of the view from the lift lobby. The bar faces north, south, and east
Singapor3 May 20th, 2006, 05:48 AM I'll check it out,soon :P
ignoramus May 20th, 2006, 08:23 AM What a nice view from the Equinox restaurant, does entry requires any entrance fees?
I think if you go up to the 71st floor equinox in the evenings you have to pay a cover charge, because they treat you as though you are entering the bar.
Otherwise, its free. But its not a full fledged observation deck. rarely do singapore buildings have this which is a sad thing.

Yeah.....perhaps they should have one at the IR.....
Singapor3 May 20th, 2006, 01:02 PM Hmm,how much is the cover charge?
RafflesCity May 21st, 2006, 08:35 AM I dont think there is a cover charge to enter the bar. It is happy hour from 3pm-9pm.

There is. I think after 9 or so they will station staff at the first floor lift lobby, with guests entering having to pay a cover charge. I remember seeing bouncers at the entrance to the New Asia Bar as well.

Wondering whats the possibility of Shaw Towers and the land around be developed?? :?
Land around Parkview Square would be another mega development i guess.....:colgate:

Guess it depends on the owner(s) and whether there is an incentive for redevelopment, maybe through increasing of plot ratio etc.
SHould the land at Parkview Square be developed, I wonder if it will be a lowrise or a highrise.....but it sure would create some excitement:cheers:
Well the Bugis Interchange is going to be constructed over the next few years...so that would increase the dynamism of the area.

From the state of Shaw Tower, it seems that the owner is not renovating or something......seems like they are waiting for the right time or something....hmmm...:)
Bugis Interchange?? Hmmm....more expensive land price perhaps?? :colgate:
The 2 development will be something big i guess, judging by the land area and potential in the bugis and marina area....
hyacinthus September 23rd, 2007, 12:14 PM What's on the green plot of land next to the colourful Rochor Centre flats currently?
RafflesCity September 23rd, 2007, 12:46 PM Half of it is a carpark that was constructed recently. The rest is just trees.
hyacinthus September 23rd, 2007, 01:06 PM quite wasteful to have a carpark there, isn't it?
why not sell it for hotel and office use?
RafflesCity September 23rd, 2007, 01:10 PM Probably cause URA deems it is necessary to address the parking shortfall in the area (I think the carpark at Manila Street had to go for the Entertainment Hub), and because, there is no dire need to have that land developed when Bugis still has other available plots nearer the MRT station.
