View Full Version : World Trade Center Twin Towers Being Designed for SimCity 4
Agglomeration April 18th, 2004, 02:00 AM The simple title says it all. A guy named Rubik3 has begun designing a near-perfect replica of the WTC Twin Towers for SimCity 4. It's still a work in progress, although the Twin Towers and the Marriot Hotel are likely done by now.
Read the very long thread here: World Trade Center for SimCity 4 (http://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?mode=viewtopic&topicID=34384&num=30&sessionID=8E4F11E7C7F644C598E9DE8588D37B85&pageNo=1)
Jasonhouse April 18th, 2004, 06:36 AM Too bad for him. I already have a 26MB ACAD file of the WTC Complex. Naturally, it is extremely detailed (all floors, all mechanicals detailed in the set), and cannot be loaded on your joe homeowner PC, without it crashing, or taking forever to render.
It could easily be used as the basis for a much easier rendering of the complex.
Agglomeration April 18th, 2004, 06:10 PM I checked back at the thread, and i've realized that he was much further ahead in designing the complex than I thought. Sorry if I posted this a little too late.
CW8 April 20th, 2004, 05:39 PM The WTC Towers by Rubik has already been released sometime ago. Many people are already using them in their cities.
queetz April 21st, 2004, 06:52 AM I had to make a rapid transit extension to my Rubik3 designed WTC simply because the building has a lot of jobs that needs to be serviced. It blended pretty well in my city and looks great at night.

BigMac May 24th, 2004, 10:27 PM Not too much longer until rubik3 releases the entire trade center complex.
Details and pictures of the project can be found here (http://www.redmoonimagery.com/wtc.htm) as well as in this (http://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=34384) thread on Simtropolis, a SimCity 4 resource.
Style™ May 25th, 2004, 01:11 AM That looks awsome!
Miles September 20th, 2004, 02:40 AM They really need to make Sim City go first person
vid September 20th, 2004, 03:22 AM Rubik started the WTC project way way back in late 2003, the entire complex was released on Sept 11 2004 and included the entire world trade centre complex, circa 2000, minus WTC building 7. i'd post a link, but Simtropolis is experiencing downtime.
Syd-Hk September 20th, 2004, 11:10 AM yeah, but another WTC was madee before thisd guy made one...
LSyd September 20th, 2004, 05:20 PM and there's already a good-looking WTC 7.
i downloaded all the files for this WTC (i think it's his) this weekend but haven't seen them in the game yet, although my hopes are up.

Furiine September 21st, 2004, 09:23 PM Is there anybody working on a BAT Freedom Tower by chance?
STR September 21st, 2004, 11:29 PM Comple of updates and rumors: Rubik is working on a 7WTC to go with the rest of the complex.
There is Freedom Tower and New World Trade Center being designed by Kd5rax, the guy who did Petronas (1st version) and the upcomming Taipei 101. I sent him my 3d model of the NWTC last week, to use as reference. You should expect progress in a month or two.
Now for the rumor part: the Head of Maxis, Will? Wright (I forget is first name right now, but I think it Will) has always wanted SimCity to be first person. The only time they were able to do this was back in the days of SimCity 2000 with SimCopter, and Streets of SimCity. They will likely go back again, as the Sims 2 is full 3D, to FP, but not until PC's can handle it.
In order for this to work, Maxis (and everyone who did BATS) must model all of its buildings again at lower polygon count. A million polys per building will crush a supercomputer, to get FP to work this will have to come down under 1,000 per building (5,000 for scrapers), and even then it will be a demanding app.
nakedyak November 6th, 2004, 10:49 PM any have the url's for these buildings?
STR November 6th, 2004, 11:27 PM ^You have to register at simtropolis.com to download the WTC. Then you just have to search the Simtropolis Exchange for World Trade Center.
