There is 3 ways of doing this, bus, train or plane.

Flights are probably the most expensive unless you are able to find any dirt cheap deals.

On the Bus front I have no idea.

Trains on the other hand would be the best way of doing it, especially if you are eligible for a JR Rail Pass. Since if you get a 1 week Rail Pass it would be cheaper then to buy return ticket in a station, Tokyo <> Hiroshima, and also you get access to all JR trains which means that you can save a lot more money if you travel around a lot.

For more info about the rail pass go here: http://www.japanrailpass.net/

(Note if you do plan on getting a Rail Pass then you must get one before you arrive since you can't get them in Japan.)

I have found that you can get a "seishun juhachi kippu" it grants you 5 days or five frends at once for discounted rail ??

Note also that you have to be under 18 to get one, if you aren't then the only other way would be to get a Rail-Pass.

But if you get one then you can't use the Shinkansen trains, which means that it would take you all day to get there instead of a couple of hours.
But then again, if you really are looking for the cheapest way then there probably is no other alternative, even though the Shinkansen would be the best option.

Have a look at: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2362.html for info about the Seishun 18 kippu, including travel tips/timetables.
