i follow various forums and blogs on miami architecture and no one has mentioned this anywhere...
i have been watching this thing go up for the past few weeks in disbelief... if they were going to block the facade then why did they pay the fee for gehry to design it?
I knew there had been a decision to reduce park space for parking and the controversy with gehry that followed but I never thought it would cover so much of the building... does anyone know what the finished product will look like?

THe only parking garage I know of will be on the western side, which is not the main facade facing the park. THe parking garage will have retail and stuff at the bottom..

That's what I heard also. Are they building parking garages on both sides now?

This is the latest photo I found, from 11/17/09, but it's looking towards the east, so the park area isn't visible.

You are ranting about the Gehry structure on the West side of the Gerhy facility. Always planned, and always part of the design, this parking structure in no way covers the main facade which is on the East side of the facility facing the park.

If you follow various fourms and blogs, you should include this one more often. I've been posting about this for the last 3 years here.
Take a deep breath.
The front of the Frank Gehry building is NOT being covered by a parking structure....duh.

Please say you were just kidding.

Relax, this 700 space structure with a rooftop garden designed by Frank Gehry to compliment his facility.
This Gerhy building is to replace the displaced 700 surface parking places that were lost to the park and the facility. It will have street level interaction with retail and restuarants and an amazing rooftop designed for special events.
You can read about it in the threads dedicated to this topic.

I knew there had been a decision to reduce park space for parking and the controversy with gehry that followed

they did not decide to reduce park space, the controversy was over them replacing gehry as the designer of the park with west 8

actually they are creating park space where it does not exist, on what is currently a surface parking lot
