View Full Version : Charlie Jade
Lydon November 23rd, 2009, 12:08 AM Anyone here use to watch it? :) Was basically a Canadian/South African sci-fi series set in Cape Town. Was pretty legend. Pity it hasn't been renewed for a second season.
Has some pretty awesome shots of a futuristic Cape Town...

Jin&Juice November 23rd, 2009, 01:43 AM Yo just send it to me on bootleg and I will watch it. Aint going to waste money on that bullshyt.
Diggerdog November 23rd, 2009, 03:36 AM Looks cool. Any chance of it being resurrected?
Lydon November 23rd, 2009, 12:05 PM Apparently so :) They said it's unlikely but not impossible.
ikops November 24th, 2009, 11:46 AM I watched it on Dutch television. Unfortunately it ran for only one season. I guess it was a huge tv-hit in SA?
Lydon November 25th, 2009, 01:00 AM I don't actually think it was. It aired on SABC 3, which is the least-watched SABC channel, despite it by far being the best of the worst. I guess it was too American for the majority of local audiences to like :)
Though I could be way-off. I just didn't hear people raving about it.
Phil_Cpt November 25th, 2009, 09:50 AM I am not certain whether it was too American. I think the time slot may have been too late. What was it 21:00pm?. I think 19:30 would have been much better. If I remember correctly that was normally the time slot for Sci-Fi on SABC3.
ikops November 25th, 2009, 09:57 AM But it wasn't too American at all (I remember it was actually a Canadian/South African co-production). That's why it gained probably some popularity in Europe. It had some raw edges that you don't usually see in more commercialized American tv-series. Hey, and Capetown was the big star. What more could you ask for? I am a little bit confused why it wasn't more popular in SA. 21.00 hours seems like the perfect time for such a tv-series.
I always liked Tyrone, he wouldn't take crap from anyone. :)

Traditionally the 9pm slot was usaully reserved for stuff like Law & Order on SABC3. If I'm wrong and it actaully aired at 19:30pm then I'm stumped. Does anybody know the real time slot and day of week it aired in SA?

I think it boils down to the fact that the average South African isn't a sci-fi fan.
JoHaN 15 November 25th, 2009, 09:12 PM Wow! So amazing. I wish there were more movies/programs that use South African Cities. I remember I saw this one mini series which was revolving around Cape Town and some End of the world Scenario. And there was an escaped serial rapist in it. Really disgusting, yet cool. Think it was rated 18V
ikops November 26th, 2009, 09:58 AM Nope, can't remember that. I do remember America's Next Top Model however:D and Doomsday off course.
Lydon June 6th, 2011, 02:26 AM Excuse the resurrection, but I found a couple of bigger interesting screengrabs from the series that look pretty insane:

I'm getting my hands on it now....
Lydon June 6th, 2011, 01:22 PM Busy downloading the torrent myself :D I watched parts of episodes back in the day but I had no idea what was going on because I hadn't followed it from the beginning. It's apparently very good.
Culemborg redevelopment? :D
