View Full Version : Questions, comments, or concerns about the Tampa Bay Transit Website
HARTride 2012 November 23rd, 2009, 05:59 PM For now on, I will post any updates to my new site here. I don't know if this thread will better belong on this subforum, or in the Skybar, but nonetheless, you can post any questions, comments, or concerns about the site, and I will post periodic updates here as well.
For the meantime, I put the website back online, and will likely keep it as it is until about mid December or so. I'll be making further modifications/expansions when time permits. I have finals coming up so don't expect any further updates until at least mid December (if I'm not busy working everyday lol). I have all my pages and content ready to go basically, but uploading things to Tripod seems to be such a pain at times. But I'll get over it sooner or later.
I've also had trouble setting up the TECO streetcar page, so I put all the photos from Shawn into a photo album on the site until I can get everything on that page fixed.
Also created a links page to many interesting pages, both from my own explorations and also from Shawn's old site. I'm also expanding the credits, some of you may notice yourselves being mentioned there ;)

transitrider November 25th, 2009, 12:08 AM Hi,
Be honest with you, why use Tripod? Why not your own website and it will make it more professional? I don't mind giving free accounts to anyone who want to make webpages about transit and they can do whatever they wish.
Just a idea. I support Public Transportation always.
HARTride 2012 November 25th, 2009, 12:17 AM ^^
Because at the moment, I cannot afford it. I'm going to school full time right now, and my job does not pay me enough to be able to support such an endeavour. I'm definitely open to having my own thing for this site. But financially, I just can't do it right now.
transitrider November 25th, 2009, 12:25 AM I understand your point and I do not blame for your hard work and try to have websites for you to enjoy. I really hate people using sites such as Tripod because of ads and poor service. I just want look good for thier sites as well.
I can offer better than Tripod, evenually. Yet, it's free :)
I will launch that in December so you may look for that.
Again, keep the good work and have a great holidays :)
HARTride 2012 November 25th, 2009, 12:28 AM ^^
Thanks. Same to you.
HARTride 2012 December 14th, 2009, 01:20 PM Now that school is done for now, I'm going to be taking down the site for the duration of the holidays.
HARTride 2012 January 14th, 2010, 10:08 PM Tripod has been giving me headaches...literally. Uploading things on there have taken more time than I expected. And there are some issues with viewing the photos.
On top of that, I had absolutely no time over the break to work on the site.
So, In the next few months, as I go through school and working 2 jobs, I will eventually transition the site to Google Sites, which seems to be a lot easier to use.
HARTride 2012 January 25th, 2010, 03:38 PM Made a quick blog update, including a change in the name & appearance. Also posted a new poll about the 1 cent increase in Hillsborough....
http://tampatransitutopia.blogspot.com/
HARTride 2012 February 10th, 2010, 04:39 PM The new homepage, HART general info page, and Paris Metro profile pages are all finished. The site is currently only accessible through invitation, if you'd like to visit the site, please send me a PM with your email address so that I can send you an invitation to view the site. This protocol will be in place until the site goes public later this year (likely around the fall of 2010).
HARTride 2012 February 18th, 2010, 08:37 PM The site keeps expanding with each week that passes. If you want to view the site, please, please send me a PM so I can get your email address. ;)
HARTride 2012 February 26th, 2010, 05:56 PM My HART section is nearly complete! I just have the 30-ft Gilligs and some of the retired buses left to go. I've partially completed my Paris Metro page, and am getting ready to complete the Sarasota transit page.
I am tentatively setting my Spring Exhibition (preview) for Wednesday March, 3 through Saturday, March 20, 2010. This is an INVITATION ONLY event. I will be sending out some messages real soon in regards to this. If you are interested in viewing the site & do not get an invitation, please contact me by sending me a private message or emailing me directly at hartride2012tampa@gmail.com
HARTride 2012 March 3rd, 2010, 05:46 PM In an effort to streamline all my various "items" (i.e. website, blog, mail, etc.) into my one Google Account, I have imported the Tampa Bay Transit Blog to a new address.
http://tampabaytransit.blogspot.com/
Rest assured, all the previous postings are still there. :)
HARTride 2012 March 19th, 2010, 03:10 PM My site is pretty much almost done for the time being. All that's really left that I can do with my own material is the Sarasota Transit section. Everything else would require additional contributions.
With that said, do you think I should make the site go public in mid May 2010? Or should I wait until fall?
HARTride 2012 March 31st, 2010, 02:44 PM I don't know if it's just me? But I wonder why nobody here bothers to input on my site? I know alot of you are busy with more pressing issues, but if we're all so vocal about HART and HSR, then why not give me some advice for this endeavous that I'm doing? I just kindly ask for advice on this. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks :)
And for those of you who haven't seen my site yet. I'm going to try to place some sort of link here soon.
tampasteve March 31st, 2010, 02:47 PM I would take the site public in May, with the referendum coming up it cannot be bad to have some more information available on the web.
Maybe add a section about the potential LR and how it has affected other cities like Charlotte and Phoenix?
Steve
HARTride 2012 March 31st, 2010, 02:51 PM ^^
Thanks Steve.
I have been thinking about an LRT page and anything to do with this ballot measure. Again, the site itself is almost done with the exception of the PSTA and SCAT pages, which would need contributions from others in order to make them work. But yes, your input definitely would make the site work better :)
transitrider April 1st, 2010, 02:18 AM HARTride 2012: I have tried to contact you but you have not reply me back.
Thanks and just keep up the good work :)
HARTride 2012 April 1st, 2010, 03:13 PM ^^
Oops, sorry there. I did get your email but honestly, I have not come to a decision on your proposition yet. Give me a little more time and I will see. Thank you very much.
HARTride 2012 April 13th, 2010, 08:07 PM Hi everyone,
I'm trying to plan out and create a page on my site that is devoted to light rail in Tampa Bay. With school being crazy lately, I haven't been able to do much of anything on the site recently. With that said, if anyone here can help me pool resources and information about light rail in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties, as well as any other municipality in Tampa Bay that is planning light rail, I would certainly appreciate it. :)
HARTride 2012 April 23rd, 2010, 04:38 PM Hey there,
Since there not much more for me to really do with the site, other than adding a few more photos. I've decided to go ahead and set the public opening for the Tampa Bay Transit site to be on Monday, May 10, 2010.
HARTride 2012 May 6th, 2010, 07:08 PM Well guys and gals, its only four days til my website goes public (May 10). I truly hope it will be a success. Thanks to those of you who sent me contributions. :)
HARTride 2012 May 10th, 2010, 09:53 PM Go check it out!

Updates on the main site: I have created a page for Pasco/Hernando bus systems, still expanding PSTA & HART pages, and adding new photos.
Jasonhouse September 9th, 2010, 05:53 PM Looks nice.
tampasteve September 9th, 2010, 07:30 PM Looks nice, great job!

HARTride 2012 March 15th, 2011, 01:23 PM New video from my New York trip. The subway! :D
KDwdxX_MQzY
HARTride 2012 April 1st, 2011, 02:32 PM ^^
Chambers St (Lines J, Z) has to be one of the most HIDEOUS stations in the New York Subway. It's condition right now is very close to out right deplorable, especially on one of its unused platforms.
Although I heavily despise the use of Twitter for personal use, I have created an account for my website. For those of you wishing to follow @TampaBayTransit, please follow the link below.
http://twitter.com/#!/TampaBayTransit
Also, please let me know what you think about my new blog layout. I think I will need to make some changes.
http://tampabaytransit.blogspot.com
Lastly, I invite everyone here who has viewed my site recently to take a quick survey. Doing so will allow me to improve my site in the future.

HARTride 2012 November 25th, 2011, 01:41 PM I wanted to let everyone here know that beginning December 7, I will be making significant updates to my website. These updates include expanding the PSTA section, opening up my New York City transit section, updating the HART section, and hopefully updating my SCAT section and creating a new section for MCAT. This will allow me to have sections for basically each county (though Pasco/Hernando will share a page).
During the course of 2012, I will reopen my European transit section and maybe create a new site dedicated to Hampton Roads, VA, including their new light rail.
HARTride 2012 January 16th, 2012, 01:05 AM I've made several key updates to the Tampa Bay Transit site, including implementing my new logo and banners throughout the site, and reworking the homepage. In addition, I have a couple new photos posted.
https://sites.google.com/site/tampabaytransit/
Jasonhouse January 16th, 2012, 09:00 PM Nice site, bad metro to discuss transit.
HARTride 2012 January 17th, 2012, 05:44 PM ^^
Thanks Jason! And if you look on the legal page, I did give a nice kudos to you & the rest of my SSC pals. :D
While right now is a poor time, given the economic and political climate, to really put a head on Tampa's transit scene, I am expanding the site to include more of Europe (including my own travels through Brussels, Antwerp, and Paris) as well as the New York City Subway, commuter rail, and bus systems, and even future focus sections on Orlando's SunRail and The Tide LRT in Norfolk, VA.
When I graduate from USF and get my finances in order, I hope to one day have my own domain name, etc.
HARTride 2012 February 29th, 2012, 01:58 AM Sad news; due to increasing school, work, and personal obligations, I will have to temporarily close my sites until further notice. This closure will take place at the end of March. Additionally, my Facebook page is closed until further notice because I have turned off my personal account.
Additionally, no new blog or twitter posts will be made. :(
Best case scenario is that I will be able to reopen the sites in June. Worst case will be August, when I graduate from USF.
Jasonhouse March 2nd, 2012, 05:40 PM ^yeah, focus on school and leave the hobbies for after the priorities of life are set.
HARTride 2012 March 2nd, 2012, 06:07 PM ^^
So true.
HARTride 2012 June 3rd, 2012, 03:05 PM Since I am only taking one class this summer (my last class for that matter). I've found myself to have just a little more free time. Therefore, I have moved my transit blog from the Blogger interface to WordPress.
You can visit the new blog here:
http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com
The old blog will close on September 30, 2012, to allow any followers sufficient time to update their bookmarks.
I still make Twitter posts from time to time, but all the websites are closed until I have time to work on them again.
HARTride 2012 July 5th, 2012, 05:58 AM About two more weeks to go before my last class is done! Afterward, I plan on putting forth a lot of improvements to my sites & blog. Among them, will be "Themed Posts" that I will be posting on my blog periodically. Learn more here (http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com/2012/07/05/themed-posts/)...
kmthurman July 5th, 2012, 04:34 PM It's looking great!

Yeah need to update my blog, and my twitter has a lot of soccer on it. Sorry about that ;)
HARTride 2012 July 5th, 2012, 07:39 PM Yeah need to update my blog, and my twitter has a lot of soccer on it. Sorry about that ;)
It's ok, lol.
I should have my Facebook page for my site back up around mid August. Lots has changed with the whole pages setup. So I'll have to think up a creative cover photo for the new page and all.
HARTride 2012 July 25th, 2012, 12:40 PM Ok everyone, here is a quick update;
My blog is getting quite a bit of traffic these past couple days since I posted about the US Secret Service unveiling the security perimeter & listing of closed roadways during the RNC. Yesterday in fact; my blog captured 20 viewers, most of them searching for anything regarding road closures during the RNC.
To see this blog post, click here (http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com/). You can read my other recent posts as well.
With that said; I am so excited to announce that I passed my final course at USF and will be graduating with my B.S. in Business Administration on August 4, 2012!
Originally; I was going to re-activate my personal Facebook account in around August 9, a few days after my commencement ceremony (this is for personal reasons). HOWEVER: with all of the traffic that I am expecting to get the next several days, possibly weeks in lieu of the RNC, I am strongly considering re-activating my account sooner so that I can start building my new Fb page for my blog/websites. The new page will have a new title and everything, so I will be closing down the old one in November. I am also considering, re-opening my Tampa Bay Transit site at the beginning of August; but it needs quite a bit of work.
The reason that I am considering an early return to Fb, is because I realize that there is a HUGE potential for me to market my blog and websites just for the RNC (specifically, letting people know what transit detours will be in effect, etc). On my old Fb page, if I can recall, I already had at least 40 followers, maybe 50. My Twitter account already has 46 followers, and 50 people are signed up for email updates from my blog.
With that said: I am considering two options:
1) Stick with my original timeframe of Thursday, August 9 to re-activate my personal Fb account and begin building my new Fb page for my blog/websites.
-OR-
2) Re-activate my account on Sunday, July 29 to have my new page up and running by Wednesday, August 1.
Please let me know what you think.
koopalicious July 25th, 2012, 04:30 PM I won't be much help answering your question since I'm looking forward to whichever option you choose, but congratulations on your graduation!
HARTride 2012 July 26th, 2012, 04:17 AM ^^
Thanks! :D
HARTride 2012 July 27th, 2012, 01:54 AM I've made the decision to go back to Fb today due to me needing to get in touch with family for my upcoming graduation. In the process; I've built up my new page for my sites/blog.

HARTride 2012 August 30th, 2012, 08:00 PM Just a brief update; my laptop decided to crash on me about two weeks ago, so I have not been able to make any big updates.
Furthermore, I have decided to take hiatus to focus on other matters. I will hopefully be back to my site/blog by mid-September. I will still however be here on SSC.
HARTride 2012 September 9th, 2012, 05:54 AM Good news; I should have my PC back sometime late next week. Hopefully, I will be back and running by Sept 16.
HARTride 2012 October 4th, 2012, 07:21 PM Quick update everyone,
I got my laptop back from repair on September 23. I plan to return to my regular blogging schedule this month, though some posts that I originally planned for September have been pushed back to January.
I hope to be able to get some new photos of the HART system soon. I still would like to try and make it out to downtown/Channelside one of these days and snap some photos. I also hope to head out to Pinellas on a day trip when the weather gets a little cooler.
A friend of mine is getting married in Myrtle Beach, SC next April, which allows me the perfect opportunity to travel up to Raleigh, NC & Norfolk, VA to profile their transit systems. I was actually very close to cancelling my plans to ride the LRT in Norfolk due to personal reasons. However, it looks like things are a go again.
HARTride 2012 October 22nd, 2012, 01:20 PM Just a small update, I've created a fantasy subway map of the Hampton Roads, VA area. I made this on Google Maps and plan to post info on my blog soon.
https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=209017093338133213456.0004b8ba2207f5d064c85&msa=0
HARTride 2012 January 2nd, 2013, 06:54 AM Made some larger scale changes to the blog (http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com/):
Updated the "About (http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com/about/)", "Legal (http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com/legal-stuff/)", and "Projects (http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com/projects/)" pages on the blog.
Posted a couple of new posts during the past month (including one on December 7 regarding HART MetroRapid (http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com/2012/12/07/hart-metrorapid-part-2/)). Be sure to check them out!
Testing a new layout on my "Europe Transit (https://sites.google.com/site/portedauphine2012/)" site.
Planning out a few new posts for January; including one regarding a new fare payment system that is going to be rolled out soon in the Chicago area.
In respects to my side projects; these include various fantasy transport systems that I've been creating.
For those of you who were reading my posts just before the 2010 election, I created some fantasy light rail and commuter rail maps for the Tampa area but lost motivation to continue them after the sales tax referendum was struck down. I now plan to make new maps.
I am also making a fantasy subway system (https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=209017093338133213456.0004b8ba2207f5d064c85&msa=0) for the Norfolk, VA area.
Of course, feel free to leave any comments!
And Mike, if you're reading this, can you please delete post #51? It is a spam post. Thank you.
HARTride 2012 January 13th, 2013, 03:02 PM A couple new posts:
Some of you may remember prior to the 2010 transit referendum failing, that I had created a few "fantasy" rail maps for the Tampa area and posted them somewhere here on SSC. When the referendum and HSR were killed, I stalled this side project until the climate got better.
With the rail talk restarting and CTB gaining momentum, I've decided to restart this project. I am currently making a series of Google maps with each line of my fantasy system, which includes several light rail (utilizing DMU vehicles on a couple lines) and heavy commuter rail lines (like SunRail).
Currently, I have a map created for the "Red Line", which runs from South Tampa/MacDill to Wesley Chapel via Downtown.
https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=209017093338133213456.0004d295b9538ca27a845&msa=0
I also have made two blog posts so far regarding this project. I invite everyone here to comment on the posts. :D
*Part 1 (http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com/2013/01/08/tampa-bay-fantasy-rail-system-part-1/)
*Part 2 (http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com/2013/01/13/tampa-bay-fantasy-rail-system-part-2/)
kmthurman January 13th, 2013, 06:10 PM Great work walter. Always a good read.
HARTride 2012 January 13th, 2013, 06:51 PM ^^
Thanks!
I forgot to mention that I have a poll question associated with one of my posts. It is regarding the median of I-275 (http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com/2013/01/07/will-we-ever-see-any-type-of-rail-in-the-interstate-medians/).
The poll is open only until Feb 5.
HARTride 2012 February 12th, 2013, 06:41 PM Later this year, I'm going to close down my current websites, which are currently hosted by Google Sites.
In their place, I will have new pages set up through my WordPress blog that will contain the same content that my current sites have. In essence, I'm migrating from one interface to another to keep everything in one place.
Although I don't have a problem with Google Sites, I've asked myself "why keep dealing with two different interfaces when I can have everything in one place?"
You can read more through my latest blog post (http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com/2013/02/12/major-changes-are-coming-to-my-blog-and-websites/). Also, be sure to check out my post on one of the Paris subway lines (http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com/2013/02/12/line-12-of-the-paris-metro/).
HARTride 2012 March 4th, 2013, 07:16 PM Content migration for my Paris, France transports section is now complete! You can view the new sections here (http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com/transit_focus_pages/europe/).
My next step is to work on my NYC pages, and then Norfolk, VA. In the summer (hopefully around June), I can start focusing on migrating content from my Tampa/St. Pete transport sections.
HARTride 2012 April 7th, 2013, 03:47 PM For my Tampa transit section; I've migrated content regarding the TECO streetcar and re-wrote much of the page itself.
http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com/transit_focus_pages/tampa-bay-area-florida/tecoline-streetcar-line/
HARTride 2012 April 15th, 2013, 05:41 AM With my visit to Norfolk, VA coming to a close, I've completed some preparations for what will be a mass-update to my site in the coming weeks. First, will be the uploading of my Hampton Roads portal, which will cover the area's bus system and Norfolk's LRT line. I've managed to get my preliminary write-up finished, but I'll need to get some clarifications from their transit agency before anything is published. I also am working on editing a video that will be uploaded to my YouTube channel by the end of the month.
In the meantime, I've started putting a piece of the puzzle into my Europe transports portal, which will be covering public transit in Belgium (http://hartride2012tampa.wordpress.com/transit_focus_pages/europe/belgium-transports/).
