Brisvein April 22nd, 2004, 08:07 AM JayT the second pic is sensational- the sky looks like a cartoon!!
steve_nova April 29th, 2004, 09:01 PM Excellent shots of the skyline. When i was there in 97, the tall apartments on the far right of the second shot were just being fitted out so its good to see this view again after seven years!

Aussie Bhoy June 11th, 2004, 03:52 PM Good stuff Ausilencer, I have always liked the view from that road.
I remember Joh used to judge the Queensland economy on the number of cranes in Brisbane, he would be pretty impressed with it now.
defec8R June 18th, 2004, 08:25 AM From Mt Coot-tha lookout a few nights ago, last Saturday I think. It was pretty crowded - not much good for photography >(

Blend June 18th, 2004, 08:40 AM nice shots, i like them. the time (and lighting) you took them is good, because it lets you see lights, but it isnt too dark that you cant see other things
Aussie Bhoy June 18th, 2004, 11:01 AM Good stuff Defec8r, it's a great view from Mt Cootha, the restaurant up there is pretty good. I remember taking a girl there years ago to impress her on a date. Expensive, but productive.
Does anyone have any pictures from Mt Gravatt lookout, it's funny how we never see any from there.

BrizzyChris June 20th, 2004, 02:20 AM Excellent! I didn't even realise there was a lookout at Mt Gravatt.
finn June 20th, 2004, 02:38 AM That panorama is phenomenal Defec8r, thanks heaps for that! It's great to see how the CBD fits into it's context! :)
Ausilencer June 20th, 2004, 08:12 AM you're a legend as always defec8R - great shots, Keep up the great work!
Is the image from Mt Coot-tha an image merge?
defec8R June 20th, 2004, 10:42 AM Ausilencer: no, the photo shown is a single shot and the ones I linked to are stitched. BTW nice crane action up the page there - cranes look good in silhouette type photos
Shado June 21st, 2004, 07:06 AM Wow. Truely amazing shots.
GMAC June 21st, 2004, 07:40 AM Defec8r, those photos rock!!! I am yet to take a decent night shot, and am yet to work out how you get the gateway bridge to look like it is only a couple of hundred metres from the city. I will keep trying!!!!!!
Aussie Bhoy June 21st, 2004, 12:51 PM Great Stuff Defec8R, thanks for that. The view from Mt Gravatt is great.
During WW2 there was an American Anti-Aircraft battery up there, the "Big Gun", which was a bit of a Brisbane landmark when you used to drive to the Gold Coast along Logan Road, was one of the American guns. Although there is a conflicting story that the Big Gun is from Magnetic Island.

There were also Australian and US anti-aircraft gun batteries in many other Brisbane locations, such as Mt Cootha (the present lookout is the old searchlight site), Balmoral Hill (near the bowls club), and Comslie Hill.

cute?... CUTE? Its not cute.... its tough! Even ferocious! A powerful skyline thrusting upwards into the heavens. Bow down Sydney and Melbourne. Hong, Kong, New York, we know you're scared. Tremble before the mighty majesty of the Brisbane skyline.
nagelixin August 21st, 2004, 01:47 AM Oh that big gun thing is on Logan Road in Logan City. I was heading down that way to Ikea when I noticed the "Big Gun shopping centre" It only has a nightowl, bottle shop, bakery etc...

One cute little fact that not many people know about is that before Canary wharf was built Brisbane had taller buildings than London.
