View Full Version : Thread tags in the Skybar
wjfox November 28th, 2009, 12:25 PM Could people stop messing about with the thread tags please?
It was mildly amusing at first. Now it's just annoying and immature.
Plus - if I'm in the office, I don't want a load of crude/porn-related keywords being picked up by my employer.
Thanks.
Wendigo Wendigo November 28th, 2009, 01:48 PM I don't even see what they're there for. I was under the impression that, the way search engines work these days, tags are about as much use in attracting traffic as chocolate teapots :dunno:.
wjfox November 29th, 2009, 11:06 AM Oh, and I can see who's been adding tags, btw. ;)

Bachy Soletanche November 29th, 2009, 12:13 PM Worst thing is when I try to find a thread about c*nts, all I get are threads with loads of Wigglyleeds in it :(
depressing, that what it is.

maybe you shouldn't steal your companies time and bandwidth then?
Gherkin November 29th, 2009, 01:08 PM The skybar's pretty crude at times... Perhaps you should only moderate the other parts of the UK forums when you're at work to save embarassment? :dunno:
NorwichJewels December 2nd, 2009, 12:34 PM I think rules on this forum should be enforced more. There are a lot of trolls and idiots on here who like to push peoples buttons. It does seem a lot of members on here like to be rude and disrespectful. I thought things like this was not tolerated on forums. I can think of several members on here who could do with a bit of discipline.
Gherkin December 2nd, 2009, 04:53 PM The Internet is the easiest place on earth to ignore someone.
The beauty of the internet though is that it is not well policed - it's the best form of free speech there is - if you let people say what they like you will get the truth out of people.
There are a lot of idiots who push people's buttons and a lot of idiots who take the bait.
Either you choose to ignore someone or just fight fire with fire. The moderator team shouldn't need to care about petty arguments where somebody isn't being properly politically-correct, or slightly racist or sexist. It's the Internet! As long as no one posts boobies it's okay!
NorwichJewels December 2nd, 2009, 05:23 PM Also I like the fact that members can swear on here and get away with it.
I suppose lots of members on here are always trying to get one over on one another.
One some forums even if you use a mild expletive you get kicked out permanently before you can say jack Robinson. Some internet sites are really strict on these things, whereas on others like here you can be more outspoken.
Gherkin December 2nd, 2009, 06:01 PM Swearing has context - usually for comedic value on here. You can't just write swear words on their own in super-sized lettering and expect to get away with it.
The point of the Internet is that it's universal free speech - anyone in the world can talk to anyone else about anything they like - of course there will be problems! But I don't see banning people for writing swear words or arguing as the way forward.
Forums are also known as discussion boards; discussion leads to debate, which leads to arguments. It's inevitable! Arguments are the best form of debate - watch Question Time!

But be more careful if you venture onto SSC's international forums. Some of the mods (cough - Rainier Meadows - cough) are a lot stricter than the UK mods and will kill a man just for looking at his own monitor the wrong way. :shifty:

They're more relevant than the actual content. Perhaps that's also a metaphor for the skybar content itself.
Tubeman December 6th, 2009, 11:58 AM Come on Will, the tag abuse is the best thing about the Skybar
wjfox December 6th, 2009, 01:06 PM Thanks for your support Joe. :|
Noostairz December 6th, 2009, 05:16 PM  who keeps on adding the stairz tags then? unmask the coward!
Bachy Soletanche December 6th, 2009, 09:58 PM I always thought it was you to be honest.
erbse December 7th, 2009, 12:38 AM Ze Brit forum really seems lame. You guys should take a step into ze glorious world of ze Wunderbar (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=512)!
Engels February 25th, 2010, 08:28 PM This keeps happening on the Birmingham Sub forum - can i suggest a simple change to allow all users to see who posts the tags - repeat offenders can then be suitably flamed.
e.g.
According to a tag on this thread 'Erebus Molests Babies' :
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=799708&page=4
Just because it's probably true ( ;)) doesn't mean the poster should be allowed anonymity
