Odessa Texas

Population: 90,000
Location: 18 miles West of Midland (See my previous post)

Odessa is one of the largest oil producing regions in the US. The saying goes, "If you want to raise a family, go to Midland. If you want to raise hell, go to Odessa."

Dang. The town im living in has 64,000 people. Odessa doesnt have TOO MUCH more. I think its a bad skyline. But for the amount of people. GOOD. 7/10. Think about it, its in the middle of nowhere...a plain. It could of easily of been 5,000 buildings with a top hieght of 2 storys...get me.

Odessa's Skyline

Odessa is about to be featured in a movie based on the book "Friday Night Lights" about the Permian High School football team. Filming in Odessa wrapped up today, with the rest of the filming taking place in Austin. The movie will star Billy Bob Thornton, Tim McGraw, and the kid that plays Jet Jackson on the Disney Channel. Look for it. Hopefully, it will show Odessa in a positive way.

Ratliff Stadium - A notable part of Odessa's skyline. It seats over 20,000 for high school football.

Oh God. Ugly. 1/10 for having at least one building of consequential height.

Probably a 2/10.........a few boxes amid blandness.......but it avoids being 1/10 simply because it has something for a pop of 90k

That place is an insult to the awesome city of Odessa in Ukraine. Although Odessa, TX it's not butt-ugly like the Seattle's suburb I am living in right now. At least it has some more or less modern architecture.

I think I am more interested in the giant jackrabbit than the skyline. If it were more condensed it would be ok.

Wake me up when Odessa joins us in the 21st century. I think I'd give a desert a better rating. 1/10.

hahahaha....I was thinking of another odessa...that would've earned somewhere around a zero. But to be on topic, more or less, this doesn't deserve more than a 3.5

Nice for it's size, but a bit of density couldn't hurt. I give it a 5/10.

My hometown. Im so surprised to see it here on SSC!!I love Odessa, although to be honest I cant STAND that Christmas tree they leave on Chasebank all year round. Compared to Midland our skyline is rather bleh...but for its size Im quite impressed. 6.5 from me :) And Permian....whew...NEVER!. GO OHS!! MUSTANGS!!

Kandrews- Have you got any recent pictures from the interstate? When I was driving there last, I remember being quite impressed with the skyline from that angle. Esp. since they completed the new hospital down there...the black one? It must be like.........5-7 floors?
