crazyknightsfan September 16th, 2010, 08:28 AM tuck shop arms miensie September 16th, 2010, 08:56 AM Pretty sure that's not what Sanj was getting at. Gotta commend you on your cool kid lingo, Sank. You didn't even know what yorn and smexy was once upon a time ;) Cite at One40 is crap by the by. They do sell your watches though, Gabs. Shoe shop is also crap. Sanj September 16th, 2010, 09:03 AM um i actually was talking about tuck shop arms, which are also known as bingo wings. what did u think i was on about? is there a new cool kid term for me to learn and impress my friends with? miensie September 16th, 2010, 09:11 AM Haha, really? Well, there you go. I know the term bingo wings but going on the discussion and factoring in the Sanj factor, assumed you meant the other meaning. Nevermind - if you don't know it, awesome! BartBart September 16th, 2010, 09:17 AM ^^ I wasn't sure which he was referring to, if that is any consolation. Can never tell if he is referring above or below the belt, so to speak. (see bagel reference from earlier today) crazyknightsfan September 16th, 2010, 09:34 AM lulz Sanj September 16th, 2010, 09:40 AM Haha, really? Well, there you go. I know the term bingo wings but going on the discussion and factoring in the Sanj factor, assumed you meant the other meaning. Nevermind - if you don't know it, awesome! u best tell me woman cos now im curious bart - the bagel reference was inadvertantly a euphemism, i was just trying to think of something kosher and something not so kosher. i might use it though, i think it's quality eg id slip some lard into bar rafaeli's bagel anytime GAbE27 September 16th, 2010, 09:56 AM Pretty sure that's not what Sanj was getting at. ChaaaaaCHING!! acc521 September 16th, 2010, 10:08 AM id slip some lard into bar rafaeli's bagel anytime The only comment of worth on this thread today. Fact. eugenius September 16th, 2010, 10:51 AM Yeah its fucked up. I don't have a problem with any of these places opening later but the small bars should be able to as well. Funny the Rise getting in on it. Completely different crowd so don't know why they care. Probably because they've got pingers who cause no trouble and pissheads cuasing trouble down the road. Did anyone go to the PertHour thing about small bars? Even the woman from the Dept of Liquour Licensing seemed to agree...although didn't say explicitly. Basically - a small bar license is till 12. You can get an exeption until 1. Them's the rules. If you want to open later you have to get a Tavern or Nightclub license (much more expensive). Wouldn't say why they are the rules or what review process there is for them to possibly get changed. I hate it as end up having a great night around the small bars in Perth... time flies... then its midnight and I either have to go home, go to a pub that is open late (not many where you can still have a conversation - at least the Brass Monkey is better than the Elephant/Rosies/Mustang) or go to a nightclub (getting a bit old for that). :ohno: Dilaz89 September 16th, 2010, 12:01 PM The state govt are looking at further reforms to the small bar act. The current trading hours for bars is just fucked. 10pm on sundays FFS! The bird has a tavern license btw. As for the health department, what a bunch of kill-joy pricks. If it were up to them we'd have prohibition. I don't even see why they'd be considered a stakeholder in deciding who should and shouldn't get liquor apps. Kelli September 16th, 2010, 01:19 PM I like to analyse everything I have to do to find the most efficient way to get it done. If its something I am useless at (eg cleaning) I'll get someone else to do it. Not worth doing unless you can do it right. Really sweetie, how can someone be useless at cleaning? I'm average at it I suppose but utterly detest it. You work all week then spend all of Saturday cleaning, then by Sunday you're a puddle on the floor. I've been thinking I'd get someone in to do mine too, it is just a worry that organising a cleaner might take more time and effort than just doing it yourself! crazyknightsfan September 16th, 2010, 01:31 PM cleaning? whats that? BartBart September 16th, 2010, 01:37 PM ^^ It is something that some people get the "help" (often Asian) to do. acc521 September 16th, 2010, 01:39 PM ^^ It is something that some people get the "help" (often Asian) to do. Does mincy know about this ulterior motive of yours kfc? crazyknightsfan September 16th, 2010, 01:40 PM she accepted her destiny at birth BartBart September 16th, 2010, 01:43 PM Geez - it didn't take long for my not-so-subtle joke to get found out. I'm lucky this is a thread Mincy doesn't come to. ryan79 September 16th, 2010, 01:51 PM Really sweetie, how can someone be useless at cleaning? I'm average at it I suppose but utterly detest it. You work all week then spend all of Saturday cleaning, then by Sunday you're a puddle on the floor. I've been thinking I'd get someone in to do mine too, it is just a worry that organising a cleaner might take more time and effort than just doing it yourself! You have no idea. I'm great at being organised and tidy but wiping down stuff etc. I just make more of a mess. I'm not sure whats wrong with me. On top of that like you say you spend all week working last thing you want to do is spend one day of your weekend cleaning. To clean my place as shit as I do it takes me around half a day. My cleaning lady comes in 2 hours a fortnight and its cleaner then I could ever make it. eco186 September 16th, 2010, 05:08 PM So i had a look at the Herdsman website and they open on the 23rd of this month. miensie September 17th, 2010, 08:52 AM WA trading hours 'a farce' - Coles MD by AAP on September 16, 2010 Coles MD Ian McLeod has slammed Western Australia's retail trading hours regime as "a complete farce". McLeod told a business forum in Perth on Thursday that WA should change its retail trading hours regime, which was "a decade behind the rest of Australia". Under WA's retail trading regulations, certain retail outlets can open on a Sunday while others cannot, depending on factors such as how many staff are on shift at any one time and whether the store is in a tourism precinct, writes Rebecca Le May of AAP. Progress appears to be being made, however, with the WA government and opposition agreeing in-principle in June to extend trading hours on weeknights while shops selling bulky or "durable consumer goods" will be allowed to trade on Sunday. But the ad hoc changes - resulting from several attempts at reform - were recently labelled a "dog's breakfast" by Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief executive James Pearson. McLeod said it was a confusing situation that begged for improvement. "Western Australian trading hours are a complete farce in my view and it's something I believe ought to be addressed," McLeod said. "We've got six stores that are open in Perth on a Sunday and more than 50 stores in WA that have to remain shut on that day because they don't fit with all the strange rules." Speaking with reporters after the briefing, McLeod went a step further, advocating full de-regulation of the retail sector. "Why does it have to be regulated at all? "It should be down to the retailer. "It offers more employment, it offers more choice (for consumers)... so why regulate at all?" WA's current retail trading hours regime gave an unfair advantage to IGA supermarkets, which were far from "corner shops", he told the briefing. "In Perth, they're bloody huge." McLeod said the current regime was also unfair to WA shoppers. "The customer needs a fair go." He said 80 per cent of Perth residents wanted extended weekday supermarket hours and over 70 per cent wanted more flexible Sunday trading rules. "So there's a very substantial demand out there." I have no idea why they do it and it just pisses me off. There could very well be sound thinking behind it but nothing I can come up with on my own. There could very well be sound thinking behind it but nothing I can come up with on my own. well as far as i know no-one takes breakfast reservations (except maybe larger groups or buffet type places) so the brekky part isnt a big deal re the other meals though i imagine they do it so they dont have to deal with the whole people booking and no turning up thing. also a place with people waiting outside to get in is always going to seem more intriguing than the place next door without a line etc samboy September 17th, 2010, 10:13 AM Explain to me why places do this, please, Sanj (or any other nosy bastard) The short answer is because they can :) jackso September 17th, 2010, 12:58 PM There is Prada signage up on the hoarding now.. ryan79 September 18th, 2010, 05:14 AM Went to Soto for brekky this morning. Very disappointed. I went about 6 months ago and it was quite good. Potato cake was col, bacon tasted like it had been sitting there for hours, bread was barely toasted and Mocha has a slightly burnt taste. For the price I paid I'd expect a lot better. Went across the road afterwards and saw Beaufort st Merchant and had a look at their menu. Cheaper prices and the food and service looked much better. crave September 18th, 2010, 05:45 AM this was morning - young girl comes to ask if i wanted to have breakfast, i said yes thanks, i'll start with a mocha... she leaves to place tha order... five minutes later, she comes back to apologise for tha wait and hands me a menu... i asked, if they had tha newspaper, she replies yes, goes back in and never comes back... i can see newspaper by tha front counter... after a few minutes, she comes back outside to wait on some new people, takes their coffee order, steps back to my table and takes my order to which i ask my usual scrambled eggs, ham, cheese and tomato on toast... to which she replies, "that's not on tha menu"... so i point to her it's tha eggs and toast with a side note "to your liking..." "oh" she says, "i'll just run it by tha chef and make sure you can get it..." then remembers i asked for tha paper... and proceeds to ask whether i still wanted it, to which i said yes please... "i'll quickly go get it..." she goes back in... i look over to tha counter and notice tha paper is gone... to which i start internalising ohmmmmmmmmmmm's to avoid queen bitch diva from coming out... a couple of minutes later she comes to bring my coffee and then apologises for forgetting tha paper... "i'm really sorry..." i thank her for tha coffee, she goes back in, i watch her over tha next few minutes clearing up tables inside and what-not... and she comes in and out a couple of times to wait on other tables... i start asking myself why she doesn't just tell me all tha paper's are gone and be done with it... i wait and finally my meal comes out, asks if i wanted anything else, then proceeds to tell me all tha paper's are being used... i think "girl i was over your shitty service 5 days ago..." so then she asks if i wanted anything else, so i ask for some water... she leaves and never comes back... i pay up and proceed to go home with my child, walk thru back streets and noticed a high perched cafe with hipster locals over looking tha road and side street with big ass brothel's on either side... i look over to tha people eating at tha balcony seating and sni!gger at their "enjoyment" watching men who might walk in and out of tha brothels... lol. hawt. avoid tha blue room in south melbourne... ryan79 September 18th, 2010, 05:56 AM So a while back (April) I bought 3 tailor made shirts from Joseph Anthony. First off I'll say the positive, the shirts are of good quality and do fit very well. However thats where the good ends. The service is shocking. Nice people in store but I ordered these shirts and heard nothing for a month. I called and they told me that were having delays. Another month went past and still nothing so I called again. Next week they said - nothing so I called again, next week and so on until end of June I get my shirts. I get my shirts and they come straight from a package (they were all folded) so I assume they just order them online from Asia somewhere. However I only got 2 shirts I ordered. I asked about the third. "The shirt had a thread pull in it so we sent it back to get fixed". Be back in a week. No problem. 2 weeks went past so I followed up again. Next week they said. Followed up 2 weeks later. "We can't get the style you picked, you'll have to come back in and pick another". So I finally went back on the weekend and chose another style. No apology, no offer of anything for free. Now for $250 a shirt (I got a 3 for 2 deal though still way too expensive) I expect much better service. I feel utterly ripped off. Got my measurements now so I'll just order them off the net from now on. crave September 18th, 2010, 06:00 AM you're not exercising your power of destruction enough if you're buying shirts at $250 a pop... :p ryan79 September 18th, 2010, 06:57 AM I didn't. I got 3 for the price of two. Although $500 for 3 shirts is ridiculous I was in dire need of new shirts. A decent Hugo Boss shirt will run you $150 which is nowhere need as good quality so I figure why not. I need to buy new Tigers as mine have had it. With dollar being so good at the moment I figure its perfect timing so does anyone know a good/cheap website to by shoes from. Sanj September 18th, 2010, 07:16 AM i would have gone off at them for behaviour like that. how much of a deposit had you paid? bought a whole hogget shoulder today. looking forward to dinner tomorrow. mark with the awesome carrots and other veg is back at mondo on saturdays. highly recommended Matt B September 18th, 2010, 09:39 AM I couldn't believe a jacket in calibre was priced at $750! Who the hell do they think they are? Burberry? Comparably, Politix has an equally good clothing range for less than half the price of calibre. I knew I'd read comments on Politix here... I picked up an end of season jacket today for about $240 down from $450 - they were matching prices from their myer store as there is a 1-day myer sale on. Very happy with the jacket (wool), but I would have checked out Calibre had I been more organised and checked here 1st. I was dreading coming home and finding out everyone thought Politix was the worst shop ever and I'd have to hide it in shame:) Nate Von Longneck II September 18th, 2010, 11:53 AM I didn't. In Hong Kong / Bangkok / Singapore... ...a *really* good tailor made shirt will cost you about 50 or 60 bucks. For about 200, you will get the finest shirt you have ever seen in your life, worlds best. Multiple fittings, finest cloth and construction, etc. A *really* nice tailor made suit, about 500 - 600. We may have had this convo before, but, with the price of airfares these days, I don't know why anyone would shop for suits locally. Go to Singapore, spend about 1 - 1.5k, and get two suits and 5 or 6 shirts, and be back for Monday at work! samboy September 18th, 2010, 04:31 PM I got 3 for the price of two. I still plan to go and do that but just needed a few shirts to get me by now. LOL - That is all. I had torn 3 shirts in 3 months, 2 in a fortnight. Very frustrating so I just needed shirts. Matt B September 19th, 2010, 01:09 PM I'm about to freshen the wardrobe with these: http://www.tmlewin.co.uk/ 4 great shirts for 100 quid = under $50 a shirt and they really are a great shirt - a mate put me on to them and he is in an executive type position where one needs great shirts. He's not tried the suits, but if you know your measurements the shirts are great. If you were comparing with what you could pick up at DJs/Myer for under $50 (and I know you are all classier than that), well these are $100+ shirts by my reckoning, and you can name your sleeve length etc. With the weak pound it is like what $40 a shirt? crazy. I'm just holding out as they sometimes have 5 for 100 quid specials - tightarse! This all includes postage worldwide. Matt B September 19th, 2010, 01:30 PM Hmm today it wants to charge me for postage... hmm. Kelli September 19th, 2010, 02:30 PM I can't understand how people are able shop online for clothes. 99% of what I try on in stores doesn't fit well, which drives me nuts enough, let alone having to post things back because they don't fit. samboy September 20th, 2010, 02:12 AM I can't understand how people are able shop online for clothes. 99% of what I try on in stores doesn't fit well, which drives me nuts enough, let alone having to post things back because they don't fit. The reason I got tailor made shirts. My neck is quite thick so all my shirts are like tents unless I get shirts too small for my neck but then they usually don't fit my shoulders. Unless you have a catalogue figure the majority of the population walks around in ill-fitting clothes regardless of the purchase method. Some just spend (a lot) more than others for that 'privilege'. You're right, quality, fit etc has nothing to do with what clothes cost. You see well made things for $15 and badly made things for $500. All I want is a natural fibre, nice fabric, properly sewn and a decent fit, but you have to be happy if you even get two of those things. Target has been good lately, their clothes actually cater for women with hips, waists and breasts, miracles of miracles, rather than the usual catering to logs and stick insects. I have been willing to pay more for natural fibre garments because they wash better, but even high end things are more often than not synthetic now. A lot of synthetic stuff lasts one wash :ohno:. Business shirts, most just walk in to wherever and pick up something in the correct neck size, no choice on the sleeves, maybe a token "slim fit".... in a packet all pinned up so buggered if you're trying it on for fit. Not fair that you can do that and get away with it! I've noticed also the last couple of years that mens clothes have nicer fabrics than womens. I've started buying things that are too big in some areas then getting an alterations place to fix it. They do a good job those places actually. Although, speaking of fabrics, I noticed that Dangerfield have some magnificent fabric. Really rather fond of a good fabric put to the right use. Here's a tip. Try it on in the store first then search for it online much cheaper. Another thing I do is stick to brands I know. Almost guarenteed to get the exact same fit. Good websites also have exact measurements of clothes so you can get the right fit. Ah, good idea. Although going to such bother for clothes makes me feel suddenly weary :). I don't really have a passion for fashion and my job has a messy component that allows me to get away with wearing Rivers cords, like a certain other forumer. At least I wear shoes and a brassiere, unlike some of my colleagues. I agree with what NVL said too, going to another country every few years to get some nice things made. It is extravagant I suppose, but if you are there anyway... I had three silk and three cotton business shirts and a silk lined wool dress (so warm) made in Thailand recently, they are masterpieces of tailoring and craftsmanship! The shirts were $25-$30 each and the dress $100. I don't wear them though, just look at them in the cupboard and rub my face against them, lovely. Miracles of tailoring don't take kindly to five kg of winter pudding though. That is what stretch cord is for. Sorry about the waffle, I'm pretending to work. Kelli September 20th, 2010, 06:01 PM Sorry Sanj...here you are. I think the Inglewood has quite decent pub style meals and they are under $20 as well. I've been there a couple of times recently and had a guinness pie one time and fish and chips another (quite obvious where the winter pudding has come from). They have a decent side salad with nice dressing and good chips. They have 'small' meals for about $10 as well, homemade chicken sausage rolls etc. A fellow on the next table said he only goes there for the sausage rolls. Casa Mia on Great Eastern Hwy Belmont is a strange place though, I've been there a couple of times recently too, as I like the setting (open fires, old house, intimate). The food was ok, same hearty style food as the pub, but costs about 30% more. Had the best roast pork I've ever had there one time. The staff are quite interesting, it looks like a couple run it, he smokes and chats with the patrons while she runs around in a flap and a fury, giving you the death-look at the slightest provocation. samboy September 21st, 2010, 02:45 AM You see well made things for $15 and badly made things for $500. wearing Rivers cords, like a certain other forumer. Under the old laws, major retailers were forced to close at 6pm on weeknights with the exception of Thursdays. Now, under the state government's plan to reform Perth's trading hour arrangements, retailers can keep their doors open well into the evening. Commerce Minister Bill Marmion said the changes would benefit the community, particularly working parents, who now have the convenience of shopping when they like. "Creating a retail trading environment that allows choice, flexibility and competition has always been the focus of this Government," Mr Marmion said. "We take into account the modern lifestyles of West Australians, such as working parents, who may find it difficult to shop within the current restricted trading hours." Under legislation which passed state parliament, the outer metropolitan suburbs of Midland and Armadale will have their trading hours extended and retailers will be able to open on Sundays. Last week, Coles managing director Ian McLeod told a business forum in Perth that WA had to change its retail trading hours regime, which was "a decade behind the rest of Australia". "Western Australian trading hours are a complete farce in my view and it's something I believe ought to be addressed," Mr McLeod said. It's time to look at Sunday trading now that legislation allowing major Perth retailers to open until 9pm on weeknights has been passed, according to the Retail Traders' Association. The State Parliament yesterday approved new laws, giving major retailers permission to keep their doors open after 6pm on weekdays, not just Thursdays. While they are yet to decide on a date for the changes to come in, a spokeswoman for Commerce Minister Bill Marmion said it is hoped they would be in force for the Christmas trading period. It was the culmination of negotiations between Premier Colin Barnett and Opposition Leader Eric Ripper. Commerce Minister Bill Marmion also released a position paper on establishing a detailed register of retail shop leases yesterday. Touted as a way to protect shopping centre tenants, the registers would be available to both current and prospective tenants and contain information on the terms of their leases. Mr Barnett's previous bid at extending trading hours was defeated in August last year by the opposition and The Nationals. Labor had originally wanted a weekday closing time of 7pm. RTA executive director Wayne Spencer welcomed the changes and said it was now time to look at allowing more Perth shops to open on Sundays. "It was about time it's great to see that it's happened, now we need to all settle down and resolve the Sunday trading issue," Mr Spencer said. But that could be a while off, with the state government and opposition yet to decide what constitutes a "bulky goods" shop. Only those trading in the bulky goods would be allowed to open on Sundays. Mr Spencer said he was waiting for a discussion paper to be released for public consultation, which is due in the next month. It will seek public comment on which types of retailers they'd like to shop at on Sundays. "Quite honestly it's going to create a shambles," he said. "I don't see why we can't allow people to trade right across the metropolitan area." "The whole idea is to have a level playing field, we've got to have a diversity of products and services available." He said he was disappointed with the decision to ban New Year's Day trading but that he could "stand back and see the bigger picture" of the changes already put through parliament. Mr Marmion said the changes would benefit the community, particularly working parents, who now have the convenience of shopping when they like. "Creating a retail trading environment that allows choice, flexibility and competition has always been the focus of this government," Mr Marmion said. "We take into account the modern lifestyles of West Australians, such as working parents, who may find it difficult to shop within the current restricted trading hours." miensie September 22nd, 2010, 08:09 AM You should post that on FB, Sanj. Taken from the West Australian Good Food Guide 2011: -As we went to press some exciting new restaurants were in the pipeline. In July 2010 Neil Perry announced he would be opening a Rockpool Grill at Burswood. It will follow the same highly successful formula of his flagship Sydney and Melbourne steakhouses with an $8 million fit out, it’s own ageing rooms, five tones of aging meat on the premises at any one time, great décor and, of course, the magic that is the Neil Perry touch. It is scheduled to open at Burswood in February 2011. -Steve Scaffidi, the entrepreneur behind Subiaco’s hit restaurant Altos and then Bar One in the City was putting the finishing touches to his big, bold new CBD restaurant, Sentinel. We’re not sure what the name means but Scaffidi told The Good Food Guide that it will be ‘a mix of traditional French bistro cooking and modern American grill house’. The massive fit out encompasses three dining rooms and a stunning bar clad in travertine, wood, glass, black leather and a five metre tall ‘library wine wall’. -Sebastian Bouchard, flush from the success of his new Bou Bar venture in Nedlands, will be adding to his flagship West Perth bistro, Bouchard, with a new project in Northbridge in 2011. ‘It’ll be a Cumulus Inc-style of operation,’ Bouchard said – a reference to the highly successful Cumulus Inc. restaurant in Flinders Lane, Melbourne. As we went to press negotiations over a site for the new venture were in full swing. -Kate Lamont will be closing her East Perth restaurant in late 2010. She will move operations to her new restaurant in the western end of the CBD at about the same time. The East Perth restaurant will be closed for renovations for all of 2011. She’ll move back to East Perth sometime in 2012. eco186 September 28th, 2010, 02:17 PM Speaking of the sentinel, there are now signs up saying that its opening in november. jackso September 28th, 2010, 02:42 PM and it's looking pretty sexy. Doesn't look like anything special on urban spoon. yes and no. bouchard is good but he has shown a tendency to run his mouth and overpromise and underdeliver so lets see how he does with this one. Sebastien Bouchard, owner of one of Perth's most famous restaurants, Bouchard, is about to open two new establishments within two weeks of each other. The first is an espresso bar called Boubar in Nedlands, which Mr Bouchard said will serve ``super high quality coffee.'' ``There is nothing like it in Australia that I've seen ... It's like a place I used to work in Montreal.'' Boubar will open in three weeks. Following that, Mr Bouchard will open The Burgermeister, also in Nedlands which he hopes will double as an international beer bar. ``If I am able to get the liquor licence, I'm hoping to have about 100 international beers,'' he said. Mr Bouchard said he believed doing something different to everyone else, and doing it well was the key to success. ``I think if people in Perth were to approach their venues like that, we'd have a restaurant scene a lot closer to those in Melbourne and Sydney,'' he said. samboy September 28th, 2010, 03:22 PM LOL X100!! Which one do you like, where do you buy it Mincy? jackso September 29th, 2010, 09:40 AM I forgot to mention I was watching ABC News24 and there was a segment called the 'Commercial Quarter' or something that featured the small business' spawning in Perth lane ways and had a nice interview with Lisa and another with the owner of Wolf Lane. The Lane way off the Murray St Mall should be finished by December according to Lisa. miensie September 29th, 2010, 09:44 AM the only one on canning hwy in applecross i can think of is thai corner. you wont like it, definitely thai food for whitefellas there used to be another thai place next to hayashi, not sure if it is still around. again, nothing great. i must say though that thai corner used to do a nice version of the minced chicken with basil back in the day, was properly hot too. we are talking a long time ago though so i cant vouch for it anymore. it is also not good value for money, im fairly sure most mains are in the high $20s, some in $30s Ah crap. I just finished eating a pack! I love the chilli and the original flavour - not brave enough to try the wasabi flavour yet XD Bought it from the supermarket that's near the Brass Monkey for like $1.95! Love the stuff! The tom yum is pretty good as well... two things: 1) It tastes better in Thailand - it must just be that bit fresher 2) Imagine about four of the strips joined together, making a "sheet". The put ten of those sheets in a pack, and call it "big sheet". This is the one we don't get over here (yet), but its the bomb yo! I had such cravings for it, after buying it every single day (at least once a day) in Banga's. The missus is a big fan as well. All I know is it's the Pigeon Hole peeps. This is a good thing, I think Pigeon Hole have a great range, great looking shops, and look forward to them doing something cool on William Street. Dilaz89 September 29th, 2010, 03:00 PM Cool. I like the name too. Pigeon Hole is an awesome little shop, I especially like the one in the Bon Marche Arcade. samboy September 29th, 2010, 04:33 PM they have one there too? bloody hell these guys are everywhere, LCourt and 2X Shafto lane. What exactly is 'it'? miensie September 30th, 2010, 03:56 AM I went to The Chimney for dinner Tuesday night. It was dead quiet - the waiter said they'd had two people come in for a meal the whole day 0_o really makes for an uncomfortable and unpleasant meal as you can tell he's trying to not be too intrusive but you feel watched the whole time. The fitout is beautiful though. Service was nice enough. Food itself was a bit meh. I can't say I'd go back. Not very interesting at least. Value for money though? miensie September 30th, 2010, 04:29 AM $19 for the lasagne, $25 for the pasta bourride, $21 for the orecchiette. I also had a side serve of buttered mixed vegetables for $8 which was yuck. Overcooked, bland and came out 5-10 minutes after my main came out. I did love the bread and olives though. Those small olives they use are divine. Not expensive by any means as the portions were pretty reasonable. Doesn't matter in my opinion. It was just meh. The orecchiette was also quite doughy. Sanj, do you know how they do these olives? They're small and unpitted and are in this pepper/olive oil sauce. Sooo good. I ate both bowls. Can you just buy them from a supermarket or are they gourmet? Sanj September 30th, 2010, 05:12 AM did they look similar to this? if so they are ligurian olives http://www.qualitycentre.com.au/script/view_img.php?c=product_5&p=5&t=f not all that easy to get actually but im not a huge fan of olives so never buy them. having said that i do enjoy the ligurian ones in a dish, eg galileo used them in their beef carpaccio maybe try your gourmet and/or wog places like charlies, that deli next to princi's on fitzgerald, re store etc pasta looks a bit thick and possibly undercooked to me miensie September 30th, 2010, 05:25 AM They were a light olive green colour and were longish and slender as opposed to a roundish shape. Kinda like the shape of a cat's eye. Wish I'd taken the photo of the entree better. Indiana do the exact same olive dish with bread, if that helps. The Re Store probably do have them. They have piles of olives. crave September 30th, 2010, 05:39 AM did they look similar to this? if so they are ligurian olives http://www.qualitycentre.com.au/script/view_img.php?c=product_5&p=5&t=f room temp or slightly warmed thru? samboy September 30th, 2010, 07:32 AM I accidentally stumbled onto this bread today. It's some continental store (Shopping village -cnr Nollamara and Hillsborough drive) The shop itself has nothing much of interest. I'd gone in to grab some water and noticed an interesting looking flat/lavash bread. Just packed in plastic bags with no print. I asked the chick behind the counter and she said it's Iraqy bread but didn't know where the bakery was. She said some bloke just drops it off every day. $1.50 for 2 LARGE pieces. It looked very fresh so I grabbed a few. I can't stop eating the bastard. It's between mountain bread and turkish bread in terms of consistency. I think I'm gonna explode but can't stop. If anyone happens to be in the neighbourhood I highly recommend it. PS: It'll be brilliant slightly toasted with the above olives and some olive oil. Sanj September 30th, 2010, 07:43 AM oooh nice one. thanks samby if u like bread like that i recommend you check out turkish kitchen in east vic park, onlalbany hwy near the maccas. hevent been since they renovated but they cook all the breads in their woodfired oven- turksh bread, lebanese bread, iraqi bread and another one i cant remember now. they are the ppl who do the $3.50 lahmacun ive discussed previously samboy September 30th, 2010, 07:57 AM ah cool thanks. I will definitely check it out for the bread. My mum makes a mean lahmacun so I'll leave that to her (otherwise I'll get in trouble) miensie September 30th, 2010, 08:45 AM I want green mango and chilli. Had one on Monday and one last night and am currently experiencing withdrawal symptoms. If I were in Thailand, I'd be able to wander down to the backyard, pluck them from the tree and eat it when/where I want. Green mango and chilli  someone take me back. acc521 September 30th, 2010, 11:00 AM I finally got around to making my first curry entirely from scratch. Chilli, lime, lemon, corriander, ginger, garlic, tumeric, onion, cream, chicken.
