hack404 May 8th, 2012, 04:12 AM Definite candidates to break the $15 price ceiling for a pint of beer. Sanj May 8th, 2012, 04:21 AM havent u heard of the prices at the garden? $18 for a pint of hoegaarden ryan79 May 8th, 2012, 04:40 AM Definite candidates to break the $15 price ceiling for a pint of beer. When beer is $15 a pint I'm going to stop drinking. When petrol hits a dollar a litre I'm going to stop driving. AndyGM May 8th, 2012, 04:42 AM I stopped driving to work around the time fuel got to a dollar a litre.... ryan79 May 8th, 2012, 04:48 AM Price of parking is a bigger cost than driving for me so I catch the bus anyway. Bullswool May 8th, 2012, 06:43 AM I found even despite the cost of fuel it still cost about the same to drive to work or take the train (I had free parking). But I hated traffic and I had a friend to talk to on the train. Kelli May 8th, 2012, 05:38 PM Tried La Brasserie De Paris tonight. It's a simple thing, but they've the best bread and butter I can recall ever having, lucky it's not close to home. Sanj May 8th, 2012, 05:54 PM sometimes the simple things are the best kelli. how was everything else? prices? reminds me of my meal last week at fibber mcgees, for years ive had some irish friends go there pretty regularly, now i know why home made soda bread was awesome, $4.50 for 3 huge slices mains were really good too and so big we could not finish our meals, i had the lamb shank and my mate had the beef ribs. it isnt often i feel like whitefella comfort food but that day i did and the quality of food was surprisingly good. 2 people stuffed including 4 drinks for $84 which i thought was pretty good theyre also pretty famous for their steaks (all dry aged on premises) which id like to try, nearly 50% of diners had steak Kelli May 9th, 2012, 03:22 AM It was alright. hack404 May 9th, 2012, 06:28 AM havent u heard of the prices at the garden? $18 for a pint of hoegaarden You'd have to be drunk to pay that much. crave May 9th, 2012, 06:32 AM tha garden became tolerable becos of all tha eye candy... had a couple of their vodka jugs, tried one of tha apple and tha passionfruit... massive pitcher/jug... $45 only to realise it had 3 shots... lol. #bbt annndddd!!!! one of tha glass staff takes one of tha jugs when it was half full... bar staff tell me, oh don't leave your drinks around... i'm like, if people standing around a wall with drinks near em... they drinking those drinks... who takes away 1/2 empty jugs!!!! acc521 May 9th, 2012, 06:34 AM It was alright. A rather extensive edit of the initial post! Ultimate Hater May 9th, 2012, 06:55 AM Just move to Claremont and be done with it sanj, you've lost touch with the common man. Sanj May 9th, 2012, 09:08 AM Just move to Claremont and be done with it sanj, you've lost touch with the common man. as if id a) go to the garden b) drink that rubbish c) pay that price Sanj May 9th, 2012, 09:09 AM It was alright. thanks for the feedback (i read it this mornign), will check it out at some stage Ultimate Hater May 9th, 2012, 09:14 AM  ;) perthgazer May 9th, 2012, 10:19 AM Perth is getting Chanel - 39 King Street http://www.perth.wa.gov.au/documentdb/2930 acc521 May 9th, 2012, 10:24 AM Yawn. Shopping in Australia is pointless. Ridiculously overpriced, crap range, old stock. Back to no shopping than stocking up overseas every year or so methinks. The missus and I have have both found clothes we had bought over a year ago in London, in an old season sale for 3-4 times the price here, now, as "new season". Worst example of a thing though would have to be a set of Salter kitchen scales which is going at Myer for 5 times what it is on Amazon! I've been to friggen temporary clearance outlets overseas that have nicer fitouts than full priced permanent stores here. ...and they wonder why retail is struggling. ryan79 May 9th, 2012, 11:01 AM Yawn. Yes. eugenius May 9th, 2012, 11:51 AM Acc - so true. After living here for a few years I had kind of got used to it (but still shopped online). However, when my girlfriend moved out here last year (and who had been an account manager for nespresso and some high end kitchenware companies) I am constantly reminded how bad retail is here in terms of price, presentation, age of stock etc. Myer pretend they are upmarket but debenhams are better fitted out! And that's before.you get to the websites of major Australian retailers (although to be fair they probably realise anyone who can work the internet wouldn't be buying from them at the prices they charge!) Ultimate Hater May 9th, 2012, 03:42 PM Chanel is fine for people like Sanj who like that sort of thing and can afford it. Johnvb May 9th, 2012, 05:20 PM Another big name brand for Perth, I suppose it is a win for the retail scene acc521 May 10th, 2012, 12:56 AM Chanel is fine for people like Sanj who like that sort of thing and can afford it. Dude probably nibbles on foie gras while his personal shopping assistant browses the racks for him. jackso May 10th, 2012, 06:50 AM I heard he imports truffles from Europe. Sanj May 10th, 2012, 07:21 AM sounds like a proper dickhead back at the coalface, i was reminded of why azn>curry>whitey today popped into imperial court in como for a quick porridge at lunchtime, table next to me was 3 singaporean ladies in their 60s. appeared to be having a great meal then one of their 3 dessert buns didnt have quite enough filling, they called the staff over, pointed it out and were given 3 replacements plus an apology etc there is a reason azn places are so cheap and offer such good value for money, they have to or will be pulled up on it every time. the rest of us woulve let that slide for sure, especially as the rest of the meals appeared to be to their liking and it was only one out of 3 buns affected jackso May 10th, 2012, 07:59 AM Perth is getting Chanel - 39 King Street http://www.perth.wa.gov.au/documentdb/2930 They'll have to do a bit of work. Is Linneys still open there? Periscope is gone. It will be interesting to see what they do with the storefront. hack404 May 11th, 2012, 06:24 AM The 140 William St food court now only has two operators left. Given how disconnected the Raine Square food court will be from ground level, I wonder if they could head the same way. eco186 May 11th, 2012, 06:39 AM The retail is shocking. The wagon that setup next to the heritage buildings sells coffee for $5 and is shit. There are a couple of good temp places though (pigeonhole) that are there til end of june. Ultimate Hater May 11th, 2012, 06:49 AM The temp places are being offered *very* cheap rent. It will be interesting to see what happens after that deal expires. crave May 11th, 2012, 08:01 AM all tha govvy workers at 140 must be povvo... you'd think tha building could sustain some sort of crowd in tha food court... maybe it'd work if they opened a dim-sum joint there... Sanj May 11th, 2012, 08:11 AM sanj is outraged piccos cafe has officially shot up to the top of my list. i had been keen to try it out again because their daily changing dinner menu always looks pretty good and it is a tiny husband and wife run place but their breakfast menu has just put them on my shit list http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=355025497880642&set=a.230723080310885.54194.166824553367405&type=1&theater $22 eggs benny, $25.50 big breakfast type dish, $16 scrambled eggs on toast ($13 for fried or poached). unbelievable all in a place with low overheads and a basic fitout, it isnt like theyre paying CBD rents or have any justification for it whatsoever lets see if i get any reply from my post on FB incidentally if u order all the individual items on their big breakfast dish separately as sides it ends up being cheaper than ordering the dish on the menu. how the hell does that work?? Matt B May 11th, 2012, 08:31 AM all tha govvy workers at 140 must be povvo... you'd think tha building could sustain some sort of crowd in tha food court... maybe it'd work if they opened a dim-sum joint there... So many better places only a short walk away... plently of better foodhalls and as close as the CBD gets to Northbridge. Interesting to see if Raine square succeeds - which would hurt 140W's chances of a comeback - or if it flops as well as people favour the traditional shopping/eating areas. THe retail will work at 140W as long as the rents are low, but it can't just be that all the places that shut down already were poorly operated. jonwil May 11th, 2012, 11:06 AM I dont think Raine will flop, if nothing else I suspect there will be a big group of people who will choose to go there instead of trying to dodge the crowds at Carillion. It will also get business from people wanting to go to Coles. samboy May 11th, 2012, 01:56 PM Been eating out quite a bit in Sydney Coffee - Close to best I've had, avg $3.50 Eggs+Organic Artisan Sdough - avg $6.90 Sashimi grade tuna from a seafood place at a very expensive arcade - $38/kilo Salmon as above $32kilo Attitude=Zero, Service=Can't fault Real Estate 25% more expensive Unless you've got a brilliant job or something to tie you down to perth ...GTFO NOW!!! I can't believe I wasted 6 years there. acc521 May 11th, 2012, 02:03 PM Brilliant! Re salmon, wait until you hit the markets. I can only assume its similar to Melb. Usual price $24/kg, can quite often get for $18/kg! When my mum told me what she pays for it in Perth I almost fell over! Do you know where in Syd you'll be settling? samboy May 11th, 2012, 02:06 PM yeah exactly acc. This was at greenwood plaza (nth sydney station) which attracts a massive premium as well. (Up to $80 for tuna in perth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I'm looking at Crows Nest or St Leonards or vicinity as long as I find something within my budget. Kelli May 11th, 2012, 03:21 PM When my mum told me what she pays for it in Perth I almost fell over! Not sure where your family lives, but $26kg is the regular price at Coventry's. acc521 May 11th, 2012, 03:42 PM They have started shopping there quite a bit now actually. The fish conversation was a few months back so good to hear that salmon is reasonable there too. samboy May 11th, 2012, 04:22 PM is that sashimi grade? (generally kailis etc charge a 70-80% premium for it) Sanj May 11th, 2012, 06:28 PM Samboy, was in the area a few days ago so popped into sealanes iNnaloo for a laugh. $99/kg for sashimi tuna, $79 for fillets of at least 3 different fish I was going to rant but decided against it Dinner tonight at bulgogi east perth. Massive pot of beef and tofu hotpot/soup with rice, bancHan etc and 9 fried chicken wings, easily enough for 3 ppl, $50 Kelli May 11th, 2012, 06:33 PM is that sashimi grade? (generally kailis etc charge a 70-80% premium for it) I don't know, what constitutes sashimi grade salmon? It looks very fresh. I've never actually bought salmon, not a fan, tastes like fish. Just notice the price for some reason, it's one of those benchmark grocery items. They have fresh scallops roe off for $26kg too, unheard of. Scallop fishing is a terrible thing though. Kelli May 11th, 2012, 06:37 PM They have started shopping there quite a bit now actually. The fish conversation was a few months back so good to hear that salmon is reasonable there too. That's good, it's getting really busy there now, means viability and a good turnover. samboy May 11th, 2012, 11:44 PM I don't know, what constitutes sashimi grade salmon? It looks very fresh. TBH honest I don't know. It could be a sales trick to gouge people on prices or may be only handled by virgins who only use their extremities for good. I'm sure if I bought the $26 'cooking' salmon it would be just as good but psychologically I always go for the alleged raw grade. At the shop in Sydney the price difference was $5 (not the Perth 200%) Sanj May 15th, 2012, 07:22 AM the trustee has released their menus, as expected pretty expensive. $40 for rump cap, $38 for a pie!! $32 for entree crab pasta $13 chips http://www.thetrustee.com.au/#/The-Trustee-Bar-and-Bistro---The-Menus went to a new joint in bentley yesterday for lunch, opened on saturday. malaysian dining delights or something to that effect. worth trying out, their curry laksa was good, paste made in house, tasty sambal, good quantity, $8.90 acc521 May 15th, 2012, 07:33 AM No surprises there. Might as well gouge the suckers who will pay for it. samboy May 15th, 2012, 07:36 AM LOL the second you launch that website you can tell you'd be arsef**d. Probably worth a try once....on someone else's coin. Sanj May 15th, 2012, 07:49 AM out of pure masochism i compared the prices to those of 2 of daniel bouluds restaurants in NYC. of course staff costs are lower there etc but this is a guy widely considered one of the best in the world, very very highly regarded his sides are $9, the trustees sides are $13, including chips on the other hand his steak tartare is $14, must winebar and five bar both charge more than that well done perf incidentally a pulled pork pie at rockpool b&G in perth (main size) using david hohnes pork, widely considered to be oen of the best if not the best, is $25. this had better be a hell of a pie at the trustee for $38 samboy May 15th, 2012, 08:08 AM must come with lube Ultimate Hater May 15th, 2012, 08:21 AM haha A pie, chips, and a pint, will cost more than $60. From the desert menu: "Cheese - $15 per 50 grams" ie, THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS A KILO. I was speaking to my mum yesterday, she lives near Amsterdam, but is from Perth. I was telling her about Breakfast prices. She said - oh they have these breakfast places here, you get a coffee, a croissant or pastry, AND a small roll (like a mackerel roll)..then she asked me how much I thought it would cost... 5 Euros? No, cheaper, 4 Euros? She cut me off, and said "ONE EURO". Perth has absolutely fucked itself, well and truly. Ultimate Hater May 15th, 2012, 08:25 AM "I'll just have an entree sized chicken salad, some chips, and a cheap glass of white wine" "oh, and can I have a couple of pieces of cheese with my win" Certainly, that will be SIXTY THREE DOLLARS THANKS. Fuck this city. GAbE27 May 15th, 2012, 08:41 AM fuck it indeed!! so I am thinking of booking my 30th at the Oxford Hotel in their wine cellar. Fits 60 ppl. has anyone been there before? samboy May 15th, 2012, 08:42 AM yeah the setting is nice. No idea about anything else. although 60 seems like pushing it so you better check first. PS: ^^ I agree. I've had a few egg/proper toast/coffees so far for $10 or less. Also refreshing not to see too many ferals. Ultimate Hater May 15th, 2012, 08:51 AM On a similar note: I had a discussion a few days ago with a person who managed a popular bar in Perth, up until recently. She said, even at their admittedly high prices, they never make any profit on the food, due to costs. I mentioned that any non-Chinese place that serves Pork Belly, it's 100% guaranteed to be a rip-off. She then told me they sourced their Pork Belly from a local Chinese restaurant, at retail, then made their own Apple sauce. Then, they TRIPLED the price they paid for the Pork Belly, and suckers ate it up. crave May 15th, 2012, 09:00 AM lollllllllllllll. AndyGM May 16th, 2012, 02:06 AM I am starting to get the impression that there are some seriously shit business owners in Perth if you have to charge those prices just to cover costs. It just doesn't make sense. ryan79 May 16th, 2012, 02:35 AM Every single small business operator I've ever known cries poor and says they barely cover costs despite being expensive. In short its a crock of shit. *awaits sanj's "expert" reply telling how wrong I am and how I have no idea blah blah* AndyGM May 16th, 2012, 02:54 AM For once I agree with you completely Ryan I think there are too many small business people out there who don't understand the relationship between marginal costs and average costs or how to compete in an overpriced market. Asian business owners always seem to get it right, so it must be an anglo thing to not understand. GAbE27 May 16th, 2012, 02:54 AM ^^ I think a lot of small business owners (especially newish ones) expect to be racking in money. the subway I used to manage only made a 30k profit at the end of the year, and I was really stinge on everything. on a completely different topic. I went to that new Japanese place on the corner of James and William. it was pretty good, but I asumed that cos they had a bottle of Moet on display they were licenced. but nope. Also the lighting was to bright, but apart from that it was pretty solid. great service. But it wasnt as good as the one that I went with Sanj, Mincy and CKF. less of a selection of dishes. AndyGM May 16th, 2012, 03:17 AM Franchise chains are often a bit different because you have no flexibility on pricing and product so profit comes down to good location and sound operational management (getting staffing and puchasing right with little wastage). Independent businesses require a lot more thought on the marketing, product and pricing side which is where a lot of owners fall over. Sanj May 16th, 2012, 04:04 AM Every single small business operator I've ever known cries poor and says they barely cover costs despite being expensive. In short its a crock of shit. *awaits sanj's "expert" reply telling how wrong I am and how I have no idea blah blah* i actually think you and andy are on the right track here, there are many terrible small business operators out there who could and should be doing a lot better. i will say though that if every single small business operrator you know cries poor then either you only know simpletons or you are exaggerating. it is extremely expensive to do business in australia, i really dont think you grasp just how expensive it is but i do agree many people simply have no clue how to run things leanly or in tough times. andy - the things with azns is that their eyes are always on the bottom line and they are willing to be creative to see where they can trim costs. unfortunately as you mentioned a lot of anglos as stuck in the open shop, hire staff, get goods from wholesaler and try to retail enough to pay the bills mentality. thats all well and good but within that there are many things possible. as an example last year i was talking to an IGA owner who was not doing very well, between him and some family and mates they owned 4 IGAs. I offered to import and sell him some cooking oil at around 40% cheaper than metcash and local suppliers were selling it to him for, all he had to do was get the 4 of them together and split the container. in the end he decided it was too hard. i also offered to ship some sugar from thailand, again at 30-40% of the prices CSR sells for. when i previously imported sugar for a few IGAs they flew out the door because our customer could retail at 25% cheaper than CSR while still increasing their margin significantly an azn store owner would have jumped at it, if he wasnt doing it already. it is just a different mentality ryan79 May 16th, 2012, 04:30 AM i actually think you and andy are on the right track here, there are many terrible small business operators out there who could and should be doing a lot better. i will say though that if every single small business operrator you know cries poor then either you only know simpletons or you are exaggerating. it is extremely expensive to do business in australia, i really dont think you grasp just how expensive it is but i do agree many people simply have no clue how to run things leanly or in tough times. andy - the things with azns is that their eyes are always on the bottom line and they are willing to be creative to see where they can trim costs. unfortunately as you mentioned a lot of anglos as stuck in the open shop, hire staff, get goods from wholesaler and try to retail enough to pay the bills mentality. thats all well and good but within that there are many things possible. as an example last year i was talking to an IGA owner who was not doing very well, between him and some family and mates they owned 4 IGAs. I spent a lot of time consulting with a lot of small businesses in my last job and the consistent theme was how poor they all were. And a business is often broke when you ask for a pay rise. Anyway its just my experience. My guess is that these weren't doing to badly if they passed up an opportunity like that sanj, which is really my point. Crying poor but not really poor at all. AndyGM May 16th, 2012, 04:53 AM In my line of work I actually speak to quite a few good business owners and you can tell from the first minute of a conversation that these guys aren't struggling because they know how to run a business well. The rest (I would say a small majority) barely stop to take a breath between their complaints about this and that. Those ones are almost universally the ones who are struggling and if they aren't, it's because they have happily found some niche market where nobody has come in a really tried to compete with them. Matt B May 16th, 2012, 07:26 AM I am exaggerating, but the majority do. Ahhh.... but even the asian's championed by Sanj would tell you that they are poor and times are tough if you are a consultant they are going to have to pay! And they'd tell you they were broke if you asked for a payrise! GAbE27 May 16th, 2012, 07:46 AM plus they keep their work force in the family and pay them with food. I have been subjected to this... :-( hehe Sanj May 16th, 2012, 07:48 AM thats a good point actually, i wonder how many of those businesses were simply crying poor matt those azns undoubtedly would be tight... So thats a no. Kelli May 17th, 2012, 01:55 PM ^^'No - Bart wont make me soup' or 'No Bart can't beat Alfred's' ??? Why is pea and ham soup suddenly so popular? Didn't your mother bore you silly with it growing up Ryan? And Sanj, I'm surprised at you, it's the epitome of whitey comfort food. Soup is my forte, I'm pretty confident, you both just want a free dinner though. That's the only food thing I ever wanted to do, a tiny shop front selling home made soup. That and write a cookbook for roadhouses. acc521 May 17th, 2012, 02:27 PM If I owned a soup shop, I wouldn't be able to resist shouting NO SOUP FOR YOU! at my customers. I was never a big varied soup fan until I went to London. Nothing like walking out of the office on a literally freezing afternoon at lunch and getting a nice hot soup. ryan79 May 17th, 2012, 02:46 PM ^^'No - Bart wont make me soup' or 'No Bart can't beat Alfred's' ??? A trip to Alfreds always involves a Pea and Ham soup whilst waiting for my burger. A soup "bar" in the city would be good. I think Schmears (unfortunate name) do a decent soup. Kelli May 17th, 2012, 03:11 PM ^Could never bring myself to buy pea and ham soup from there, my mum made it a lot too, like the idea though. It's the fancy printing that jacks it up. you'd be surprised. any eco-friendly recycled blah blah is bloody expensive, ive seen up to $1.20 in cost for packaging for a single serve before, fucking ridiculous printing of course adds to it but if someone is doing enough volume to warrant the extra cost and meet the MOQs of printing id suggest doing it in Malaysia and sending it here instead. eg id genuinley be surprised if you could save less $0.15 as a wild guess (probably more) on nice takeaway coffee cups with logos printed, if a cafe does 500 a day as quite a few do, that is $75 a day. 6 day operation = $450/week in savings just from coffee cups we are currently producing some baby formula in singapore with the printed tins coming from malaysia and the savings on materials is so significant even all the australian producers are importing them from malaysia crave May 18th, 2012, 05:19 AM ^^ this is tha $4.90 mocha i was having a whinge about tha other day... i ordered small, but apparently they don't do small, only regular... woteva. coffee's nice tho. fancy logo. fancy mark-ups... it's a new joint, family-owned that's moved into tha rise apartments retail tenancy... http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a206/crave1980/IMAG0963.jpg hack404 May 18th, 2012, 05:40 AM A bit rude insulting their customers like that. The Precinct in Vic Park has somehow managed to get a restaurant license. yeah i was quite surprised when i read that Sanj May 27th, 2012, 03:10 PM so i went to heritage and trustee yesterday, trustee was closed til 6pm but heritage was open so we started there positives are the room looks great, the bar manager upstairs is passionate and knows his stuff. the bar downstairs (bobeche) also looks good and has a great comfortable feel. certain items are good value, eg $12 croque monsieurs, $18 eggs benedict etc, considering the location and costs of fitout i think it's pretty fair downside - some of the staff are clueless and appear to be very inexperienced (so not just a teething problem issue). eg one bartender had only made 3 cocktails in his entire life before, should he be working there?? another french guy was completely hopeless, cant be bothered getting into it but he should not be working there. not rude, just not good enough pickled sardine dish was very good, beef tartare was easily one of the worst i have ever eaten. overprocessed and pasty, underseasoned, no acidity, all around a bad dish. i sent it back and there was so much confusion, it took nearly 30 mins to sort out. replacement duck liver parfait also average but not nearly as bad as the tartare met the bar manager at bobeche, very passionate guy, we had a whinge together about the PIA bullshit and RGL in general. drinks were good but not great, which they should be for the price. overall it could go either way with the heritage, they need to sort themselves out but i hope they do. i wont be a regular as it is too expensive but it is a great addition to the cbd Trustee - i was only there for 20 mins as i had to rush off but love the room. staff again seem inexperienced, dont all seem to be hospitality professionals which is quite odd. cocktail was good but not amazing was hungry but didnt have time to try the food and refused on principal to pay $13 for chips ($9 at heritage btw). it was a lot busier than heritage though once again hard to judge it and i dont quite know if it is for me yet but a good addition to the cbd. I wish I new about this this morning! Will they be operating outside working hours? As in on the weekends? West Perth is so lame after hours. Ultimate Hater June 5th, 2012, 03:55 PM West Perth is so lame after hours. I lived on Outram Street in 1990, 22 years ago. In 22 years, nothing has changed in West Perth when it comes to weekends/after hours. In fact, I think there was one or two more things open back then. It's a great example of how slowly things change in Perth. Dilaz89 June 5th, 2012, 08:05 PM You can pretty much blame the councils planning policies, which is to have West Perth operate as a suburban business park with some residential chucked in here and there. steve_87 June 6th, 2012, 02:58 AM Is that basically saying that the perth council are too focused on the "success" of the CBD and care little about the rest? I would think that West Perth has enough businesses that could attract people after hours and not just during the working week. Whenever I drive through the area on the weekends there is literally tumbleweed rolling by. Those who live in the area arent even on the streets. They go down to their basements, into their car and drive outta the place. Sanj June 6th, 2012, 09:28 AM thanks. im about to have an almighty rant but want to make sure im accurate pls check if it includes salad etc or anything else thanks! GAbE27 June 6th, 2012, 09:41 AM just go for it... the best thing about rants is they dont need facts or logic!! :-) steve_87 June 6th, 2012, 09:42 AM I am not sure if street vendors in Perth have already been discussed on here before. They can be located in almost any space. They can build a reputation for fast cheap food and can then have the high turnover to profit from it. But from what I have heard, the council are not for this idea? Personally I just want somewhere that sells cheap hotdogs or calcalash! GAbE27 June 6th, 2012, 10:15 AM whatever happened to that hot dog cart that was in the malls?? Scrawny June 6th, 2012, 10:16 AM Apparently that Shanghai Garden next to Vinh Hong is some of the most authentic shanghai style chinese food in perth. It's surprisingly unpopular. Sanj June 6th, 2012, 11:31 AM that is fucking ridiculous. how big is the slice? hack404 June 6th, 2012, 11:36 AM that is fucking ridiculous. how big is the slice? Just your average slice from what I saw. Sanj June 6th, 2012, 11:38 AM this makes me so damn angry, i want to abuse them as well as the people giving them money Sanj June 6th, 2012, 11:39 AM so 1 single pizza will be sold for up to $80, if there are 8 slices Ultimate Hater June 6th, 2012, 11:42 AM The slice is about 11cm x 15cm. It's a "slab". So I guess about four slices to an average pie. Don't quote me on the size, or my maths ability. ryan79 June 6th, 2012, 12:13 PM It would be no bigger then a NYC slice, maybe a bit smaller. Maybe same as that one in Enex. jonwil June 6th, 2012, 12:17 PM I am not sure if street vendors in Perth have already been discussed on here before. They can be located in almost any space. Personally I just want somewhere that sells cheap hotdogs or calcalash! What happened is that the Council was lobbied by existing food businesses (with their high rents and high overheads) to block the competition from street vendors without the overheads. When the best value lunch food in the CBD comes from KFC, you know something must be wrong... GAbE27 June 7th, 2012, 04:21 AM Sanj, how was the Classroom on Sunday? I might go there on Saturday night after the movies. ekul444 June 7th, 2012, 04:27 AM So the transformation of Burswood into Crown continues. Gonna get me some bitters for the weekend. jackso June 7th, 2012, 09:39 AM Yeah, I've ordered Old Fashioned's a couple of times, inspired by Mad Men. Sanj June 7th, 2012, 09:57 AM hard to beat the classics imo, negronis are fantastic too. in summer i tend to hurt aperol sours as well btw 399 is doing a martini tasting thing this weekend for $30, get to taste 5 different martinis, i think half serve. should be fun also bill at 399 does a bloody good singapore sling, heaps of booze in it and well balanced, not overly sweet like it is generally. worth trying GAbE27 June 7th, 2012, 10:11 AM  That show has made me desire Old Fashioneds. Macallan was the first scotch I drank straight that I enjoyed. Glenlivet is nice too, I've gone through an 18yo and have a 21yo to go. As for blended my favourite is Chivas 18yo and I've had a 21yo. Ultimate Hater June 7th, 2012, 12:59 PM ^^ Chivas is my go-to Scotch - the 18. Drink a half a bottle of that when you're on holiday, but at home, and you start to think "wow, being an alcoholic would actually be a pretty good life". Scary stuff. As for cockatils, my favourites lately are Caipirinha's, I have a friend who always makes them for me - she's a perfectionist with cocktails, and they're fucking delicous, also the Bronx (sometimes known as a Bill Bronx) - I'm not a huge Martini fan, so this is my compromise - it's a 100 year old classic, and very tasty.. ..I have another mate who runs the bar at Devilles, he's been making me Gin Fizz at his house lately, another good one. Hadn't had one until recently - very easy to make at home. I never forget the cardinal rule with Cocktails - if your'e not starting to get shitfaced after drinking four, they having been making them right. I usually avoid anything rum based. Its make me fucking loopy. No matter which rum. The Bronx is Snoop Dogg style, sippin on gin and juice. I have a bottle of Bombay Saphire which I have no idea what to do with. Oh and Cointreau. I need to know someone who knows how to make cocktails. Maybe I should learn, might impress the ladies. I agree about cocktails in Perth but it really depends on who is making them. For consistency Minq and Andulaz are very good (although I haven't been to either in a while) and 1907 seems to depend on who you get. Some are very good, some are shite. From the photos it looks like you would have to do a fair bit of demolition to open it up enough, so their could be heritage issues. I'd be very interested to see in the basement though. Could make a great cellar bar. It would be beautiful as a residence! The ceilings in the main hall look beautiful, reminds me of old treasury. Now I want the floor plans! I have a crystal decanter full of Jamesons cos ppl keep buying it for my duty free for some reason.. but that isnt to bad, I drink that will soda water. I also love dark rum, coke and lime. Sailor Jerry is pretty tasty!! but right now my thing is Port. I had some awesome stuff last night with my Dad, he has a 20L wooden barrel, right now its a S.A Port mixed with Congaic... Lame! says who? my dad brings it back all the time they just have to put it in one of those special bags and you have to be flying directly to your final destination ryan79 June 8th, 2012, 05:14 AM I brought back a few bottles from Singapore back in Feb. GAbE27 June 8th, 2012, 07:29 AM or unless Singapore is exempt?? Ultimate Hater June 8th, 2012, 08:13 AM I believe it's changed - just for Australia. Same Gabs - HK Airport in March, I couldn't buy any duty free alcohol - it was explicitly an Australian policy. There was also some crazy Australian shit about cigarettes as well, I remember not buying any duty free at all. I couldn't even buy beauty products for the GF, as they were over 100ml. ATTENTION SCARED IDIOTS OF THE WORLD- THERE ARE NO BOMBS BEING DISGUISED AS BRAND NEW SEALED BOTTLES OF ALCOHOL OR SKIN CREAM, ANYWHERE. Sanj June 8th, 2012, 08:14 AM were you guys flying from HK directly to perth or via somewhere else? But, there was a couple who had bought some bottles from somewhere else, flying back to Perth via HK. When they were about to board the plane, the bottles were confiscated - they were fucking livid! The new procedure (for Australians only) at HK airport: Just before you get on the plane, after you have passed through the gate, there is a row of tables, and a whole bunch of security staff. They will check EVERY piece of luggage, every shopping bag, your jackets, everything - every single passenger was checked, quiet comprehensively. Opening handbags, the works. It would be pretty hard to get a bottle of duty free piss from HK to Perth now, almost impossible. Cool ay! acc521 June 8th, 2012, 08:36 AM Same for Americans from HK too. We are the only 2 places. Lame paranoids. Sanj June 8th, 2012, 08:37 AM well i just spoke to dad and he said he's had no issues bringing it in from singapore he doesnt bring it everytime since we dont actually go through that much but as far as i know it isnt an issue weird what happened to you though GAbE27 June 8th, 2012, 08:40 AM is there much of a price difference in Singapore? HK was a LOT cheaper than the duty free here in Perth, maybe thats why? Since the Aus govt cant control what HK do and sell, they just ban it from entering instead to protect the duty free here??
