From what i know, city populations can be calculated in two ways...

One is just the inner city, also known as the "City Proper"... The other is the Metropolitan (also Urban) area, which explains why some cities have a "Greater" next to its name (think of Greater Manchester or Greater London)...

Therefore, i'm not too sure whether that population chart thingy is showing the City or Metro area... But IMO, these are what I think are the biggest urban areas in Malaysia:
1. KL
2. Penang
3. Johor Bahru
4. Petaling Jaya
5. Klang
6. Kuching(?)
7. Malacca (?)
8. Ipoh (?)
9. ??
10. ??
(I'm quite uncertain as to those areas from #6-10... Can any1 enlighten me on this, TQ...)

I would think that we are at about 4-5 million but some sources say 7 million

I guess no one had ever done a study on Klang Valley before because it is not an official entity.........in Malaysia, everything had to be officially recognised to deemed worthy of a study :D

wow...that's a lot....i guess..the whole kalang valley can be a Metropolis, well base on my PMR geography knowledge, metropolis is a combination of two or more cities...so we have shah alam, KL, PJ, Subang Jaya...

oh ...putrajaya and cyberjaya are also in kLang Valley, i taught that they are far away....if they are, nilai and dengkil should also be in klang valley since that both places are only a few km away from putrajaya....

i always thought Klang Valley as conurbation or even a megalopolis (well, maybe if the area's population is more than 8 million)

a bit like in japan where you got Kanto region where Tokyo sits or maybe thesouth east of australia where Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra are.
