It has been proposed by the South Australian Government to totally rebuild the Oval to a capacity to 50 000 (i'm not sure if this is seated or full capacity which includes the grassed hill) at a cost of $450 million AUD ($416 millian USD). The Government released Concept Designs on Wednesday 2nd Dec. They have stated that the Design is still in the air. The Relevent bodies were consulted by the Football Federation Australia in July, regarding what is involved in developing a Stadium that will satify FIFA. It is understood the State Government will be lobying the Federal Government to provide some funding for the project, specifically to ensure the ground will be FIFA compliant. The main tenants will be Adelaides two AFL clubs during winter and the South Australian Cricket Assiciation during summer.

Thanks for this.

This should really help to transform this side of the city. Ifthey can build up the surrounding area with cafes/restaurants and hotels, it should be a great area.

This ground is a classic, and this would ruin it. Why not mess with the other one?

Why the gaps in the 2nd tier?

Extremely disappointed with this outcome. It is not appropriate for football ,yet that is the reason for the project.
Adelaide will not host games for 2018/22

LOL I don't think this is even the final design they wish to PROPOSE. I don't think it has gone much further than these images at this point. I am sure if this can get through, the final stadium will look different.

What is the capacity?

Where are the carparks?

Where are the supporting amenities?

What are the key events that are held there?

What are the other sporting facilities in the vicinity?

Thank you.

Capacity is 50,000 (not yet sure if thats all seated)

Carparks are on the surrounding parklands + proposed above-ground car parking (total 3000 carparks)

Footbridge across the River torrens from the city to the oval (at the northern end) + possible tram routes?

Key events are international/domestic cricket matches in the summer and AFL football matches (aussie rules) in the winter. Possibly to be used as a FIFA WC stadium if Australia is granted the rights to the 2022 WC. Other events inculde A-League football and International Rugby Sevens. Rock concerts also.

Other sporting facilites in the area include the Memorial Drive tennis complex and the Next Generation gym, pool and spa facilities.

the stadium is across the river(5-10 mins) walk fromt he city center which has thousands of parks, plus there is quite a few around the stadium in various places. The footbridge across the river terminates right next to the central adelaide train station, their is also talk of extending the tram network in the future to run past Adelaide Oval.

It will host international cricket, Australian rules football and is listed as one of Australias WC stadiums, though in the bid pictures it is rectangular form which hasn't been mentioned so far in the rebuild designs and is causing a bit of tension amongst some of the Adelaide citizens.

This stadium will be made into a temporary rectangle for the 2022 FIFA WC is Australia's bid wins. The temporary stands will be built ontop of the ground tier and part of the field, linking up with the first tier. The open grass bank end will be squared off by a temporary grandstand.

I wish they could just do that with all the oval grounds in the country. Then reconfigure after the tournament's done if need be.

the most recent renders are much much more promising than the original ones posted, 3 types of roofs would have made it look rather odd and each development would have looked like an afterthought with out at all considering the rest of the ground.

^^^ lol at some of the posts in that link. Its interesting to read talk about league in adelaide from an interstate point of view, especially considering there is very little talk about it amongst South Australians themselves!

And that the National Rugby League couldn't give a stuff about anything outside of Queensland and New South Wales. The Melbourne Storm are funded by New LTD while the Perth Rugby League community has to do it all alone.

It would of been nice to built a square pitch stadium near it with all that park space. I would be good for adelaide united and the introduction for a rugby team could of been put into place. But soon enough hindmarsh stadium will become to small for the reds.

Adelaide Oval is undergoing a $AU 575 million redevelopment which will be completed in time for the 2014 Australian Football League season.

The Western Grandstand has already undergone redevelopment into a 17,000 seat, three tiered structure.

The capacity of the stadium once completed will be a touch under 55,000.
