Mass transit is well-developed and includes trams, buses, metro and trolleybuses.

The city suffers from horrible traffic jams that persist throughout the day and only easy at night.

Sofia is a green city - it has several huge parks that are perfect that are full with people all year round.

Unfortunately I will aslo show you the leftovers from communism. Like in Moscow, ugly towerblocks were built from the 1970s to 1990.

One block of flats is so tall and so wide it is known in the whole capital as the "Great Wall of China" :lol:

The Sofia metro uses the same rolling stock like the one in Moscow. It runs both underground and above ground in green tunnels.

Sorry, I do not know Bulgarian, but I gather from the above-said that you associate old Russian metro carriages with communism and dislike them. The first time I saw pictures of Sofia was back in the early 80's, in a book at Bulgarian Embassy in Brasilia. Despite of the beauty of the city, Sofia I saw in that book was a kind of cold, empty city. Now, by seeing your pictures I could say that Sofia breaths fresh, fresh air! Beautiful

i was gonna comment about the bulgarian capital looking a lot nicer since i was there last, and then i see your headlines here lol.
anyhow since u wanna talk about stats athens city limits is like 39km2 (15 square miles) a very small area.
greater athens is well over 6 million , of course many athenians whom live in our capital are not counted in the officials statistics because many tend to go to their towns or villages in other parts of greece when they are voting,and yes many bulgarians are living here as well :)
oh and u should attempt to be a little more calm and civil with your comments

well, to me, Sofia looked exactly like I imagined it to be - a modern, eastern european city, with all of the disadvantages it includes... it really has that east europe feel to it...

Gorex please stop it. Yes Athens is maybe too big,but it has a lot of history. Athens is megapolis,Sofia is not and this megaposlis is around 4 mln like New Yourk,where the megapolis is 20 mln,but the citi is only 7 mln. Sofia is not megapolis. I am not sure but I think Belgrade is bigger then Sofia too.:)

Sofia is very big, just look from Google earth how many cars there are in Sofia and how many there are in Athens.

Also there is more variery in Sofia - buildings of all styles.

Thick smog covers Sofia for most of the winter months, with december being the foggiest month of the year.

Car exhaust fumes mixed with industrial pollution make the smog yellow.

Often, when I look towards Sofia from the Vitosha mountain the city is covered in completely dark yellow even brown smog.

Gorex, we, foreigners don't want to see the kind of dispute above. Believe me, Athens always has our respect, I think a lot of people in the Occident wants to get to know Greece's capital not only for the beauty it indeed has, but for its History, for the fact that our occidental origins lies there. But I think this thread is about Sophia and we want to see it here. Beautiful city as well. So post more pictures and if I could ask, I ask for street scenes too.

Sorry, I didn't know this was about postcard-style pics. If BG_Patriot weren't such a 'patriot' he'd probably acknowledge half the pics are actually shot in downtown Sofia, on a major boulevard, not sure how that can be a hidden side of Sofia. There is loads of other inconcistencies in the rest of his deluded claims but whatever makes him happy :)

Yes, some of the pictures are from downtown but from the ghetto parts of it and I do realize that Sofia has a lot to improve, but it seems that you are not quite able to grasp the point. The thread is not about postcard pictures, people can post pictures of the not so nice parts of the city, the problem is that you know you posted these pictures simply to continue on your trolling spree and not to actually show the city from a different perspective. Anyways I see there is no hope for you.
