I don't know what it's like to live in Bogotá because I've never been there for more than three weeks, but the climate is 14ºC - 52ºF all year long, it has the same safety issues that cities like Madrid, London or Chicago have...just regular stuff, and it is the 120th most expensive city in the world, so the prices are quite favourable.

Thanks christos, BTW.

Bogota is not a expensive city
http://www.citymayors.com/economics/expensive_cities2.html

It is the third richest city in LAtam, by purchasing power

Security is relatively good if we compare wit other latin cities.

Triple bendy huh?! A bus like that would need a lot of space to manoeuvre around. They have a lot of problems even with the normal bendy in London nevermind a triple! Then again, many of the streets in London are narrow and terribly congested. Interesting to see the red buses here in Bogota too though. :)

I've just realized that in the beggining of this thread I said that Bogotá's foundation was in 1538 BC but it was in 1538 AD.

Gracias cobra por hacerme caer en cuenta :okay:

That bus is massive! Couldn't imagine that on the streets of London or Paris. Must say it does look interesting. What are the bus fares like there? Pretty reasonable? Expensive?

Maybe those buses are feasible here because they have an exclusive lane so it's less "dangerous", I guess.

The fares for Transmilenio (the bendy) are more expensive than the ones for regular buses that run with the cars. The price is about USD 0.75, which we can consider a little high regarding the average income of people.

That's not so bad. Here in São Paulo the fare is R$2,30, which is like US$1.30 for bus and like R$1.50 for subway, yet the income is pretty much the same. I actually think it's quite reasonable compared to most large urban centers. How much is a 'regular' bus today, Andrés? I haven't been to Bogotá in years!

I agree, I don't think it's expensive at all. No podemos esperar que valga menos que un bus regular o...igual que un vaso de gaseosa :D

The regular bus fare is currently $1.300 (US$ 0.65) , in "regular" hours :)

I'm not really informed about the prices in other cities in the region, but compered to Sao Paulo it´s pretty cheap.

LOL Of course, I am speaking from the very "painful" experience (cost of living) of having to live in such cities.

To be honest, I'm not really sure what the exact prices are here at the moment because I use the car everyday for work, going out, etc. But, I do know for a fact that it's very expensive simply by observing the expressions on some of my friends faces who do use public transport! :D

The subway fare is diferent in every city, but it usually goes from 1€ to 1.40€. Europe is pretty expensive indeed.

I know the topic is Bogotá and not Transmilenio, but just one question... Are these buses made in Colombia only for the domestic SMTR, or are they also exported to the new systems that have been implemented around the region?

Hey Alejoaoa (and all other posters)

Greetings from Ireland and thanks for starting this thread. Well, I am seduced. Seeing these pictures was a real eye opener, and proof that not all of the negative publicity of Comombia is true!!:)

Bogata is truely a multi genre city. The use of red brick and the tudor syle houses is very Anglo-Saxon and reminds me alot of our older Victoria suburbs in Dublin, nick-named the "Red Roads"! Likewise, the main Square with is Classical styled architecture looks more Western European, then Spanish. But, then you see those quaint red tiles and multi-coloured buildings which desplay Latin roots:))

Furthermore, some of the modern architecture is really excellent. I particularly liked the Avianca Building.

The Citys surroundings are also extremely nice. The park on the mountain (Montserrat?) looked particularly charming.

Overall, very impressed!

Thanks a lot for your comment, C.

I appreciate that thing you said about the negative publicity of our country and how underrated it is, cause the whole point of this thread and others that I've made of Colombia is exactly to show that our country is much better than what you see in the news and that truly "The only risk is wanting to stay" :)

Glad you liked Bogotá!

How did that district (is it Chapinero?) with British-style architecture come to be? Really nice. I like the city, specially the colonial buildings.
