The Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero is a stadium built honoring Pascual Guerrero. The Stadium is located in Santiago de Cali, Colombia. The stadium was the main stadium of the 1971 Pan American Games in Santiago de Cali, Colombia. It was built in 1937 and it has a capacity for 45,625 spectators. It is the home of two of the city football teams: Deportivo Cali, and America de Cali. In 2010/2011 Deportivo Cali will move into a new stadium, Estadio Deportivo Cali, becoming the first Colombian football team to own its own stadium. Due to its privileged weather, most mass spectacles in Cali are held in this open-air scenario, which has accommodated up to 50.000 people in non-athletic performances (surface and stands). Different types of music festivals have taken place in Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero including genres such as: rock, salsa, latin, pop, andean, mariachis, etc. Also, it has held massive religious congregations.

the thing is, it wasn't completely filled with proper seating. So now that fifa rules state that a stadium has to have proper seating for each attendant, the capacity will be reduced.

But come to think of it, i don't mind the stadium's future reduced capacity, all i want is a makeover for the pascual guerrero, that is starting to look run-down and old. The Pascual is an icon in Colombia's football history, due to the fact that it houses 2 of the 4 most successful teams in Colombia, America de Cali (13 championships, making it the most effective team in colombia along with millonarios and the fact that FIFA ranked it second best club after juve in '96) and Deportivo Cali (8 Championships, 4th in # of tournaments won after America, Millonarios and Nacional).

Así avanzan las obras en el estadio Pascual Guerrero


Demoliciones, excavaciones, saneamientos, reforzamientos estructurales y cerramientos, hacen parte de las obras que a buen ritmo avanzan, para devolverle al estadio Pascual Guerrero, máximo escenario de los caleños, un nuevo latir.

Y es que la Administración que lidera el médico Jorge Iván Ospina Gómez, por intermedio de la Secretaría de Deporte y Recreación, que preside Diego Cardona, trabaja para entregarles a los caleños el mejor estadio del país. Un nuevo Pascual Guerrero, que albergue los partidos más importantes del campeonato mundial de futbol de la categoría sub-20, Colombia 2011.

Las obras de remodelación del estadio se llevan a cabo en las tribunas sur y norte y fueron descritas así por el ingeniero Felipe Dulcey, de la Secretaría de Deporte y Recreación: “En este momento estamos haciendo la excavación para el semisótano, donde funcionará un parqueadero VIP y el área de comunicaciones que exige la FIFA”.

En la primera fase de intervención del estadio Pascual Guerrero, que se realiza en las dos tribunas mencionadas, la Alcaldía de Cali invierte cerca de 12 mil millones de pesos, en la construcción de sus nuevas áreas.

En la tribuna sur que es la que más demanda inversión, se construye además del semisótano, una central de comunicaciones y el PMU (puesto de mando unificado) para albergar a los organismos de socorro. De igual manera por exigencia del alcalde jorge Iván Ospina Gómez, habrá salas de espera y salones que tienen la función de volver el escenario más funcional.

With rugby sevens' popularity exploding in South America - as it does everywhere else in the world - the International Rugby Board (IRB) and the International World Games Association (IWGA) opted to have the sport feature in The World Games one more time, during 2013 Cali, before it premieres at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. IWGA President Ron Froehlich and IRB Secretary General Mike Miller agreed on that in a recent meeting.

Rugby sevens has been included in the World Games Sports Program for the last three editions. With Fiji winning the title every time!

They should have just extended the 3rd tier around the stadium, but space limitations may prevent that from happening. Also, in the photos it looks like the crews are tearing up the concrete in the stands. Will more floorspace be added to the stadium for the VIP areas and other stuff?

The story of the historic Pascual Guerrero


The history of the Pascual Guerrero stadium dates back to the 30s as the architectural designer Javier Escobar Cadavid, the Ministry of Sport and Recreation.

This is one of the few pictures that remain Galilee Stadium, a stadium that existed in Cali in 1928 and was located in the area of Versailles.

And as he promised and it happened to be Member of the Assembly of Valle del Cauca, Don Pascual Guerrero managed the construction of the stadium to Cali with a budgetary item covered by Departmental Order 50 thousand pesos.

"The stadium was opened by the President, Alfonso López Pumarejo, July 20, 1937 at a date which coincided with celebrations marking the fourth centenary of the founding of Santiago de Cali."

For the opening of the stage which was named 'Departmental stadium' was held with the participation of a homer friendly selections from Colombia, Argentina, Mexico and Cuba. And in the first match played, the selection Colombia beat Mexico similar to the 3 goals to 1.

30 years later and saw the Pascual Guerrero, decked out for a track meet, where we see the athlete Cali Jaime Aparicio and the background the old western grandstand with a single floor.

Based on the current progress, I don't think the reconstruction of this stadium is gonna be finished before the U20 World Cup. Instead of refurbishing this stadium, they should have demolished this stadium and built a brand new 3-tiered stadium from scratch. In any reconstruction, lots of concrete is gonna be ripped apart.

Today, I was in a general visit to the Stadium Pascual Guerrero of the City of Cali, where I could see the advance of the works and the infrastructure executed for the above mentioned remodeling, it is a work of very complex construction and I can see the scope of this project, leave the representative images of the visit them.

If you don't know about something, just don't talk about it...
Of course the 2009 stadium was much better than the Pascual, its logic because it was build in a rich nation, not a poor country.

The effort that Cali is making to host this games, is much more valuable than the thousands of dollars that a city with the money can spend on them. Besides that Cali is making huge investments not only in their sports scenarios but also in its entire infrastructure, mobility, urban renovation, public transportation, social projects etc...

So before coming to criticize a city you don't even know at least get some information about it... google is FREE.. :nuts:

So what if a lot of concrete is “ripped” out, as you so bluntly put it? It is a reconstruction you know? And on that matter, if you had any idea of what you’re talking about, you would know that a refurbishing cost half of what a totally new stadium would. There is just not enough money for that at the moment. Besides it will be a world class stadium by U-20 standards. So if Fifa representatives are happy with what they see, I don’t see why you should come on this board to “insult”, nag and complain. No offense.

cimentación 100%, zapatas estructura metálica 100%, sanamiento de cubierta occidental 100%. según nuestra fuente que es la misma de la cortesía, la estructura metálica ya esta en el estadio y que empezara su instalación en un mes y que los palcos van 100% seguros; en las imágenes se puede ver mas que todo refuerzo estructural y fundición de vigas y columnas.

tal vez pero este estadio estaba literalmente estaba en el suelo y un estadio nuevo y bueno cuesta bastante ademas el pascual tiene un gran valor arquitectónico del racionalismo

^^ The Pascual is a stadium from the 20's. They are practically building a new stadium, thats why took over a year to make the structure's reinforcement. :okay:

El Pascual es un estadio de mas de 70 años. Practicamente estan construyendo un estadio nuevo, por eso tomo cerca de un año hacer el refuerzo de la estructura.

Para los que dicen que las obras estan atrazadas....


Creen que este muro se construye de un momento a otro?... aparte ya los suelos estan completos, es solo cosa de cimentar el piso?... esas columnas hasta la mitad iran los parqueaderos, se coloca plancha.. y lo que queda (la estructura de hierro) y lo que quedó de la tribuna (como esos brazos), son para sostener la cubierta, cosa que no demora mas de un mes.

Como al metropolitano (que se ve bien bonito), ya le pusieron silleteria y la pantalla, entonces ya para todos es el mas avanzado.... (La silleteria y la pantalla, es lo mas rapido de instalar)

A estas zonas, solo les falta la cimentacion, que es lo que mas atrazado APARENTA estar, pero segun me contaba el ingeniero, es mas rapido hacer la nueva cimentacion, que ponerse a resanar con chorro de arena toda la tribuna.

hay casi 100 Hombres trabjando todos los dias para resanar las tribunas, la cubierta ya esta resanada en un 96%

Esta zona de camerinos, ya esta lista, el que este sucio no significa que no este completo.

Me dijeron que para este sabado, esa area va a estar limpia, y hasta alli van a recibir a los de la FIFA.

Como se ve al fondo ya en todos estas estructuras que sostienen el estadio, se estan ampliando las columnas para cumplir 100% con las normas de sismoresistencia, ya que encontraron que las estructuras estaban mal cimentadas por la edad del estadio, este proceso dura mes y medio para todas las tribunas, mas de 60 hombres trabajando.

De estas cosas hay como 25 en la tribuna norte, que es la que sostendra la cubierta que no es cualquier cosa que se sostiene con un poste, (Cavacion de 10 Metros), Lista para recibir la cubierta.

Estos son los pilotes de 30M de profundidad, y tiene mas de 25 tambien en el lado oriental, NO ES UN AVANCE que ya hayan cavado y cimentado todo eso??... ya esta listo para recibir la estructura que sostendra los palcos.
