On New Year's Eve 2010, the Las Vegas Express will make its inaugural run between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. A roundtrip fare would cost approximately $99 and the journey will take 5.5 hours. The train will include a sushi bar, sports bar, restaurants, etc.

I can't tell. They have a Facebook, a Twitter feed, etc. And they say tey're just now starting to get the word out about the project. I guess it could be real since it wouldn't be that expensive. It'd use the existing ROW and use one train.

^ The website is so amateur and unprofessionally done. Google "Las Vegas Express" and you get no press release.

Well, I guess it's a "believe it when I see it" project.

Vegas Party Train A' Coming?

LAS VEGAS: Via the Inbox: A reader points out that new Vegas to Fullerton train is supposed to be finished by next year. Perhaps the reader is confusing this with that desert express train? No matter. This train has gaming! He writes: "The [quick opening] is absolutely news to me. They're claiming they'll start service from Fullerton to Vegas on New Year's Eve next year, for a $99 round-trip. Perhaps by then they can update their web design to something beyond 1994, too?" According to their Facebook page, the train is "launching their plan to begin round-trip passenger train service from Los Angeles to Las Vegas over the existing rail tracks! The "X" Train will be complete with gaming, bars & restaurants!" And the music on the web site rocks. Check out the site here. [Curbed InBox]

For all you skeptics and non-believers... "Liberty Capital Asset Management" is a public Company listed on the OTCBB. Go read their latest 10Q and you will see! It's all VERY real! Watch for news!

Interesting. In general, if you have 100M face value of non-performing mortgages you probably bought them for maybe 300k to 1M dollars so this company is not exactly Citibank. Without going to the trouble of reviewing their 10k, I am guessing they buy mortages at pennies on the dollar and hope the owners don't default before they get their money back (usually takes a few months for this to happen) and the bank takes the property. You can make money quickly doing this but it is pure speculation; nothing to do with investing or for sure anything to do with railroads.

Having said this, it strikes me as potentially profitable to run party trains to LV; with some fees for food, booze and games you could charge pretty low fares. I don't suppose this will be a very fast train or expects large usage but could be a nice business.
