I read somewhere that Brazil once administered Angola like its own colony. Then of course, the Cubans occupied parts of the country for years during the civil war. I am interested to know what is the legacy of the Brazilian and Cuban presence? I have an idea of what Cuban soldiers would be like in their spare time. (!) Are there families of Cuban and Brazilian ancestry in Angola? Are there cultural influences in food, music, fashion etc...?

Angola started to be rulled by Brazil because, when Napoleon forces invaded Portugal, the Royal family escaped to Brasil, and they ruled all the colonies from there, but they later return to Portugal because England helped Portugal to Kick the french people out of Portugal.

The Cubans came together with the Soviet Union to help the guerillas by give them weapons to fight against the colonial power. but Most Cubans arrived in Angola, about 500.000 troops and more in Cold WAR, when Apertheid attempt to invade Angola.

Since then, Angola and Cuba have strong relantions. and brazilian people because Brazil was first country to recognize Angola as an independent country. And Brazil and Angola share cultural aspects because os the salves from angola, everything u see in black brazilian people, has mostly Angolan descent.

yes there are Families in Angola who is mixed with other Brazilian and Cubans families.

Cubans help Angola By sending Doctors, Nurses, especialists in other areas and Many Angolans students study in Cuban Universities.

Brazil Helps Angola in the same way that Cubans do, and mostly in Constructions.

It depends. People from Bahia are often Nigerian in origin.

lol maybe, but it was the Angolan black culture that survided in brazil and other former slaves followed it. 30% of black taken away from their land to south america were angolans . other countries were below 5 %

comon! The english, french and Dutch had to take them else where north where the colonies were. why would they go further down south of africa and then swim north to Americas?, dont make sense.

i think most nigerian slaves went to carabean and USA

and only a few of the rest of africans went to brazil..

but anyway it dont metter now... they wont come back

we gona have to wait until the official Population Numbers in the next 4 years. its the only way to know, how many people are in Angola and who they are:

blacks ( all africans) and their descents

whites ( dutch, english, americans, soviets, polish) and their descents

Latins ( portugues, spanish, brazilian, cubans, and others) and their descents

cape verdeans , and cape verdeans descents

congo and congolese descents

or mixtures of EVERYTHING LOL

etc etc etc.

IF the job gets done propely we will know how many they are and how many descents.

we should be able to know aswell how many Angolans live outside Angola, and where are the most Angolans living abroad.

right now is impossible!:ohno:

Do somebody know how many white and mulatto angolans there are in Angola?. At the wikipedia the say that the number of mulattos and whites is 2,0 procent that is unbelivable because i think that there are a lot more in 2009 many chines make children white country side girls in the angolan provinces

Just a small correction. Almost half of the Brazilian population is white, while 40% are of mixed race. The Spanish are in their majority white. If you are classifying countries according to their language family, which is Latin, then you would have to add the French as well.

Just my two cents.

Brazilians hold Angolans in high regard. Our commercial ties are becoming stronger, as well as our cultural bonds.

You're wrong here. Im in Brazil as I write, this is my 4th time here so I know what Im talking about. Out of all the African cultures the Yoruba Nigerian culture is the one that survived the most here. The most African state in Brazil, Bahia, was populated mostly by West Africans NOT Angolans. West African slaves made up more than 5% of slaves to Brazil.
