Design is striking. Doesnt look that tall but with the top might take it to 230m? I'm guessing.

Great pics! I've got a pretty alright tan from all this walking around but today, today was just unbearably hot! I had to take a break under a tree every 15 minutes, i'm already sweating thinking about it. Oh yeah Trances, there were two new plots being boarded up, one beside Abbco and the other beside Al Salam , do you have any idea as to what they could be?? I beginning to get excited, maybe we'll have some more 70+ story towers, it's Dubai....anything is possible.

Seems like they'v been working on that top structure for quite long now already ,but not much changes at all....

there are some changes as the two ends that support the spire rise
but your right moving nearly as fast as one would like

They have lifted the next 15meter section into place on the crown and soon they will join the two. The resulting square is 30m by 30m and the spire is affixed to the centre of this taking total height up to 250m

Yep SA Boy is right......that pic I posted is about 3 weeks old.....the top section is coming into view quite clearly now and as Trances pointed out, the crown is at a 45 degree angle to SZR which gives the impression that the tower too is built an angle. Very clever indeed!

Guys I left it at 46 as the B is basement and G is not included. I included the 45 plus mezzanine. I left out the HC/SP and R as they are not actually habital floors. I will rellok at the rules defining floors as noted by the CUHTB so maybe the HC and SP will be accepted but R is deffinatly out.

it is white and the grey look is the protective film that gets removed from the cladding once its all up.

Well if it is indeed taller than 21st Century Tower and it is all residential as all of you say, how does Al-Salam compare with that all redidential tower in AUS (OZ) that is supposed to be the tallest residntial tower in the world?

Here are some pics taken this afternoon. They are really pushing ahead now with the top section changing almost every day. Here we can finally see the square shaped top finally beginning to appear:

This is a good looking building. It will actually be 4 meters shorter than 21st as 21st has a huge spire. However they both count to full height as a spire is part of the height but an antenna is not (CUHTB rules on buildings height)

Read this about the height:

Al Salam Tower II is under construction on the Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai and will tower to 50 storeys including the ground floor when complete. The building is dedicated for residential use (excluding the ground floor) and houses 282 apartments over 49 storeys.

The most striking feature of the building design is the white diagonal spine that stretches from the ground to its apex at a height of 230m. At this point, the two sides of the spine join to form a perfect square opening, at the centre of which suspends the 40m high needle, pushing the overall height of the tower to 255m.

There is no concrete poured in yet. Only the steel structure is there and the main 2 side "beams" are united by the centre piece.

I don't know if they'll pour concrete, or the steel structure will serve like skeleton and it will be dreesed up with other materials to create the roof ornament.

The steel frame is now joined and will be clad in powder coated aluminium sheeting simmilar to the white band on each diagonal corner. The spire will go up after that.

Anyone know with the how long finishing the work on the mast took with the Burj Al Arab? I had a photo on the cover of my lonely planet but don’t have that here in Sydney. I looked quite interesting as it was covered up. Similar to what is being done here I guess.
Might still be some before we change this one to completed

Cladding is compleated on the vertical section facing the Jumeirah side and also on the bottom of the horizontal section. Give it a couple of weeks and the roof ornament/spire will be compleated.

The confinement at the base was removed. The finishing touches were being given to the boardwalk in front. The entrance was compleated with the glass windows and doors and a huge banner hanged from the lower floors:

"Chelseay Luxury Furnished Apartments - Comming Soon" and the name of the real Estate agency.

Denis, there is no fence anymore, it was teared down on Sunday and there is already a huge banner hanging on tower's wall saying CHELSEA TOWER.

That's why I told you to go, see, take a picture and ... change the name on the thread. :)

Does the interiours count when the status of the tower is decided?

As later as early January, the entrance hall was untouched and I think it will take a while until they compleate the interiours on all 49 floars. However IMHO before the electricity/water is conected permanently to the building, we can't speak about completation.

its structually topped out, has all cranes, hoists and scafolding removed. the fact that floors havent been fitted out is no issue as many towers wait months and sometimes years to be fitted out after they are complete due to no occupants.
As for DEWA conections this is unknown if it is connected or not.
As far as Im concerned its completed

i have forwarded the clear pics
it's pretty dificult to take pics at night, you need a tripod when you turn off the flashlight, but just one little movement and the photo is blurry

i hope it's enough for them to add the tower to the top100!

^ I know. I deleted half of the pictures I took. Not having a tripod, means while haveing to look for the perfect spot (to many interfering streetlights), I've to search for a place to lean the camera, I mean everything is good, the roof of the car, the car's door, a parking meter, a board ...

i hate it to make night pictures from a huge and far away object.
So difficult that it looks good...
But some of them are really stunning, nice job altin!thanks.

British hotel operator to invest Dh100m in two Dubai properties

Dubai: The UK-based hotel operator Chelsea Group is investing Dh100 million in two properties in Dubai under the Chelsea name, said a top company official.

Chelsea Hotel, a four-star business hotel featuring 99 guest rooms including 18 executive rooms and 12 suites, will open on April 1, and the 49-storey Chelsea Tower, located on Shaikh Zayed Road, will also open next month.

It will have 281 apartments, all with en-suite bathrooms, cable TV, daily housekeeping and 24 hour security.

The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is currently carrying out the inspection of the properties, officials said.

Chelsea Hotel Dubai is being set up in a new building which has been taken on long-term lease.

Karim Kassam, director of the group, told Gulf News yesterday: "Our investment in this is about Dh25 million, while in the tower we have invested Dh75 million.

"The two Dubai hotels are visionary additions to our expanding portfolio of hotel properties, and we're confident they will attract growing numbers of visitors from around the region and Europe.

"The Chelsea brand offers a complete accomodation solution and we aim to be recognised as a hotel group that provides everything a traveller could need."

There will be no Hotel in this tower, just serviced apartments and a restaurant at the base.

it will be like that in almost all towers in dubai, in the marina most developers make contracts with other companies for maintenance and restaurants etc...
some developers care about those things for two years , and then advise another company, or even sign a contract for that from completion on...

it's not easy to take a vertical "view down the tower" shot

the roof is like a huge balcony with a ballustrade (1.7m high and 1m wide)

We should try to make this one of the most photographed buildings on emporis! I have taken a bunch of shots from different angles myself, but they are in high resolution. Cant upload them here, will get them up on emporis when I get back to the states inshAllah.
