View Full Version : Architecture of IRAN during Islamic times

Although much of Iran's architecture during the Islamic period has been destroyed over the years, even those of the legendary cities of Nishapur, Ghazni and Tabriz, due to earthquakes or barbarian invading armies, there is still a number of very impressive buildings to show. Iranian architecture has traditionally always been admired and influential throughout history, and Iranian architects have always been highly sought after - resulting in even the Taj Mahal in India being designed and constructed by Iranian architects. James-Bond: Thanks! :) Yes many of the architecture in Pakistan, as well as the rest of the Indian subcontinent has many Persian influences, especially because of the Mughal Empire. I saw this very beautiful mosque once

mAZEratti: Thanks, hmmm well if you want to see the modern "Persian" architecture then here is some: http://www.worldisround.com/articles/98910/index.html

Unfortunately the modern architecture in Iran, although beautiful, is not influenced by our traditional Persian designs :(

Freeksregistration: These are architecture from Islamic period of Iran, so around past ~1000 years or so. There have been many Persian Empires, so yes some of these are from the Persian Empire. But the dynasty that is most often referred to as "Persian Empire" is the Achaemenid dynasty, which existed more than 2000 years ago, and no, none of the pictures here are from that dynasty. I will try to start a thread one day about Pre-Islamic architecture of Iran though, and they are also very beautiful :)

The pictures are beautiful. Most of the mosques in Malaysia, in my opinion, rather dull. Except for those which with oriental influences.

The design was very unique, surely the people who work on this are really keen to details. This is one of a kind architecture.

The amount of detail is stunning. I can only imagine how many people it took to place all of that tile and how many hours.

I always wanted to spend some time there learing how to lay tile just like they do. I wonder if there are schools on persian art where that trade is taught?

great thread, btw can the admin please change the thread title to "Iran, Persian Architecture During Medieval Times", as it is more relevant to the topic and time era (we are still "islamic") and also rids the limitation of islamic architecture, since most of islamic arvhitture is based off of sassanid Perian architecture. Thank you :)

Great post. Islamic architecture is without a doubt among the most gorgeous types of man-made symmetry and fashions. It is a completely different form of architecture. It's got its distinctive symbolism. This is obvious from this post on Architecture of IRAN during Islamic times.

I also once made a post like this on my blog recently. I really appreciate this post on Architecture of IRAN during Islamic times.
