The main goal of this staduim (extensible to 72,000) is to make Morocco able to organise Fifa wold Cup.

Tow other staduim are under construction in Marrakech and Agadir.

Good! A world cup in Morocco would be great! I'm pretty sure they will host it next time WC goes back to africa...I can't see any other country that could seriously challenge them at the moment...

But Rabat host every year a big athelic meeting and will host the IAAF grand prix final in 2010-2011. Tangiers meeting will move from marshan stadium to new stadium this year.

Marrakech and Agadir stadium don't need track.

Morroco was favourite for world cup 2010, but we know what Blatter made. He encourages other arab countries for presenting candidature (Tunisia, Egypt, Lybia) and the day vote, he changes the voting rules at the last moment ; from a voting round play off (the less country voices is eliminate each round until a final with 2 countries) to a majority vote.

Tunisia has withdrawn its proposal, but Egypt did not want and the Libyan project was not accepted.

Inauguration du stade de Tanger : Le Raja perd 3-1 face à l’Atlético de Madrid

Le Raja de Casablanca a affronté l’Atlético de Madrid, mardi 26 avril, dans le cadre d’un match amical organisé pour célébrer l’inauguration du stade de Tanger. Les Verts se sont inclinés face aux Madrilènes sur un score de 3 buts à 1. L’Uruguayen Diego Forlan (12e, 48e, 53e) a réalisé un triplé alors que le but du Raja a été inscrit par Abdelmoula Berrabeh (35e).

A l’issue de cette journée inaugurale, une autre rencontre s’est tenue quelques heures auparavant. Elle a opposé l’Ittihad de Tanger (IRT), évoluant en 2e division, à l’équipe B de l’Atlético de Madrid. Cette rencontre s’est
soldée par un match nul (1-1). Les locaux ont ouvert la marque garce à un but de Hamza Felihi Laaroussi (18e) avant que Francesco Regalon Cereto n’égalise pour les siens (52e).

En marge de la rencontre, une convention a été signée entre le Raja de Casablanca et l'Atlético de Madrid, , rapporte la MAP. Elle porte sur « la formation et l'échange d'expertise » entre les deux clubs.

La saison 2011/2012 débute au Maroc avec une affiche magnifique, LOSC-OM. Cette 16e édition se disputera dans le Grand Stade de Tanger, tout juste inauguré en avril dernier.

Le Trophée des Champions poursuit son parcours de globe-trotter. Depuis 2009, le match, qui oppose le champion de France de Ligue 1 au vainqueur de la Coupe de France, s'exporte pour mieux faire connaître le football français à l'étranger. Après Montréal (2009) et Tunis (2010), la Ligue de Football Professionnel a choisi d'organiser cette 16e édition à Tanger. Terre de football, le Maroc accueillera le Trophée des Champions dans un stade flambant neuf. Inauguré en avril dernier, le Grand Stade de Tanger (45.000 places) répond à tous les critères d'une enceinte moderne et sera un des stades qui accueillera la CAN en 2015.

Devant un public passionné et très au fait de la Ligue 1, le LOSC, auteur du doublé champion de France de Ligue 1-Coupe de France, défiera l'Olympique de Marseille, deuxième du dernier championnat et vainqueur de la Coupe de la Ligue. Après le doublé de l'Olympique Lyonnais en 2005, c'est la deuxième fois que le Trophée des Champions met aux prises le champion de France à son dauphin. Vainqueur l'an passé du Trophée des Champions, l'OM aura à coeur de conserver son trophée et d'aligner ainsi un deuxième succès dans la compétition. En cas de nouvelle victoire, l'OM rejoindrait le FC Girondins de Bordeaux, le Paris Saint-Germain, le FC Nantes et l'AS Monaco, chacun vainqueur à deux reprises. De son côté, dès sa première participation à ce match, le LOSC tentera de garnir son palmarès d'un troisième trophée, deux mois après un doublé historique.

I like the blue track. This stadium can be extended to 69 000 (WC 2026 we hope !)

:) I guess this stadium would need much much more than just an extention. (in case of a WC)
I think by 2026 it will need to be demolished and rebuilt. :) (Just look at the stadiums planned for the next two World Cups, or the ones used in the last 2-3...)

I was talking about this stadium in Tangier. It is new, and looks decent but it's definietly too primitive to host a WC game. (without massive reconstruction) Does the main stand even have VIP boxes? (On the photos i can see only a few cabins which look more like the commentators cabins).

Yes it does have VIP cabines . Technicaly it has what all new WC stadium have ( lighting, sound, stands, security, comfort ) . The only major difference is the general look - design

Did you see what Russia and Qatar are planning for the next two WorldCups? ....Or we shouldn't even go that far in the future...just look at the stadiums being opened this year in Poland and Ukraine.

Morocco doesn't have qatars oil money or italys economy to build dreamy venues, we have other priorities ;) .

As for the stadium it self, it was not built for a 2026 wc bid, once this fact is clear in ur head, then we shall move to the next step of explaining why this stadium was built, which is to promote sports in the countr ( soccer and other athletic desciplines ) . The wc is in 16 years from now, we will cross that bridge when we get to it, but for now, Morocco has the second best sport infrastructure in the continent ( after south Africa ) . And as I mentionned , let us not shew more than we can swallow .

Well abviously u just used the last living cell in ur brain, so no matter what I say, u r not gonna get it, but I will say it anyway : u want me to check previous page ?? What about u check the entire discussion and get a clear idea of the stadium instead of basing ur stupid judjments on one single post : its official! The stadium is to promote sports in the country, there is no wc bid yet, only speculation. And as I said, we will cross that bridge when we get to it, but until then, cheers..
