I know there was a thread about this before however it has disappeared.
Supposedly simple question - to which I can't find an answer - what is the street address of The Block?
Thanks in advance!

77 Whistler Street, Manly. It's about a 10-15 min walk from Manly Wharf

Tonights episode is a must watch. Dani and Monique will "officially" leave the show. Their departure was very well publiised in the media back in January following the revelation that Dani had served a six month jail sentence related to drugs.

Thanks Fabian. I have stayed a couple of times at the Manly Beach Resort in Carlton Street and figured that The Block must have been fairly close.

Jason and Kirsten won the $5000 prize from AGL and it was without controvesy from the other couples who suggested that they give away the prize to Dani and Monique or give it away to charity following their decision to spend the night away from "The Block" as Kirsten was sick. Despite allowing the couple to keep the prize, the other couples were still cheezed off.
Kirsten's attitude was disgusting Yes she was sick, but to carry on etc wasn't good. She needs to fix herself up.

It has been beaten each week by channel seven's "The World Around Us" now hosted by Lisa McCune.
Last Tuesday it didn't fare well against other house related shows Room for Improvement and Hot Auctions, also on channel seven.
I think the problem why it hasn't fared that well is that the show is too Sydney centred. The program is coming out of Sydney yet again instead of another city. Two of the four couples are from Sydney with one couple from Melbourne and the gay couple from the Gold Coast.

I ignored it completely last year - and this year decided to give it a try - but I'm sorry - Channel Nine's casting departent have forgotten the essential ingredient - Charisma. Also the whole thing has probably been ruined by Channel 10's HOTHOUSE - Whatever else you think about that show - you can't deny the house went up fast - on the block it took them 4 weeks to sweep the floor for Christ's sake!! Also the prospect of elimination - and the subsequent bizarre phenomenon which was Pete & Tina added some real tension and interest. In contrast the Block is just a show about Renovation, slow slow renovations, sure there's bitchiness and tension, but no pay off because no one's going to leave.
Of course Fabian is right also - the show has just picked another Sydney beach for it's second season - pretty lame.

I thought this thread was going to be about Redfern. All I can say is, thank god all of this reality crap is starting to bomb in the ratings. The worst one in the UK is the Salon, it's set in a hairdressers, and it's bloody awful. I have been forced by a woman in my house to watch more of it than I need.

It's been reported that Channel Nine will make a loss on the property due to the slowdown on the housing market. The apartments should fetch $800 - $900 000 at auction.
The Sun Herald published a picture of the completed block as seen from the street. It's looking nice.
Who do you think will make the most money from their unit?

The Domain section in the SMH today features a report on the apartments which are now fully completed and are ready for inspection. There is also a short description of each apartment as well.
The reserve prices, which have been kept a secret on the program start from $800 000. Matt and Jane's unit will have a reserve price of $850 000

It finished sixth in the week ending July 3 but it's still well off the 3 million +. It was the best rating reality show as well. Ratings will pick up a bit towards the end with maybe 2 million tuning into the auction. I'm expecting a big turnout at actual auctons with several thousands expected to turn up to see it.
It is the longest running reality show in OZ at the moment. As of last night, the contestants would of still been competing. They have been in the game twice as long as those in the Survivor Series (81 days Vs 40 days for survivor) and even for series one which was just 81 days long. By the end it would of been 100 days or 4 1/2 months.

I admit I havent watched much of this show but I have caught the last couple episodes and watching tonights final I can't believe the attitudes of some of these people.
Just watching a yelling/crying fiesta between the "two camps" left me wanting to punch that arrogant bastard Jason in the face, slap some sense into Kirsten (sorry Howard, your vioence against women add's aint working), and as for the gay blokes, they seemed normal enough to me most of the time, but in this last episode their behaviour disgusts me, one of them (not richard, the other one) deserves to be castrated.
I know I don't really know these people but the way they carried on today it's hard not to consider them a pack of pricks.

The Block buster - 'Ken and Barbie' cash in
By Rachel Browne
July 25, 2004
The Sun-Herald
They are the couple everyone loves to hate, but The Block's Kirsten and Jason proved themselves the best renovators when the first two units in Australia's most famous apartment complex went under the hammer yesterday.
The Sydney couple dubbed "Ken and Barbie" pocketed the $77,000 profit on their apartment when it sold above its reserve of $795,000.
But Melbourne couple Matt and Jane walked away all but empty-handed when their apartment only just met the $795,000 reserve after 30 minutes of sluggish bidding.
They were consoled with the Toyota RAV-4 they won yesterday after being named the most popular couple on the Channel Nine reality show in a viewer poll.
Two more apartments - Andrew and Jamie's ground-level unit and Richard and Steven's upstairs party pad - go under the hammer today, but both will struggle to match the price paid for Kirsten and Jason's property, which was bought by 30-year-old Bondi sales executive Jamie Shakespeare.
If Kirsten and Jason's apartment fetches the highest price of all four in the block, they will pocket an extra $100,000.
"This is the best day of my life, to be honest," said corporate headhunter Jason. "We are totally overwhelmed."
"I am humbled, excited and grateful," business manager Kirsten said.
Restaurant manager Matt, who married his public relations executive partner Jane during the series, said he was dismayed by the low selling price of their top-floor apartment, filled with his own artworks.
"We are really proud of our apartment, so we were a bit disappointed with the price," he said. "But we did the best we could and we are really proud of how we played the game."
Their apartment was the first to be auctioned yesterday, with Jane saying buyers may have been put off by the pressure.
"It's tough being the first apartment up for auction because no one knows how it's going to go, so people are reluctant to get in there and bid," she said.
Their apartment was bought by Adelaide property developer Cathy Pearce and business partner Todd Miller, who together designed The Block board game.
Ms Pearce said she had no plans to bid yesterday, but when she saw how the bidding was going, she decided to register.
"The price was too good so we put our hands up," she said. "It was a spur of the moment decision, but we are very comfortable with what we have paid."
Ms Pearce said she planned to lease the apartment.
Jamie Shakespeare said he intended to live in the apartment, despite its notoriety.
"I think it will be just like living anywhere else," he said.
Both of yesterday's buyers took advantage of Sydney's flagging property market, which has hit The Block's production team. It paid $3.13 million for the property last year.
After spending $630,000 in renovation and conversion costs, $160,000 on stamp duty and $72,000 on the investor exit tax, Nine needed the units to sell for more than $1 million each in order to break even.
While the ratings for this year's show have been as patchy as the property market, figures have increased over the past few weeks with 1.7 million viewers tuning in last Sunday.
About 3000 people lined Whistler Street, Manly, yesterday to get a last-minute look inside the apartments and watch the auction.
Co-creator and executive producer Julian Cress said he expected an even bigger turn-out today when Andrew and Jamie's and Richard and Steven's places go under the hammer.
The production team is scouting locations for a third series of The Block, which is yet to be given the green light by the network.

Apparently Matt and Jane walk away with nothing as their apartment barely made the reserve, maybe they should've left the amatuer art gallery at home and concentrated on the renovations!

Never really liked Steven myself. He was always out there looking for trouble and I'm not surprised by the way the others reacted when he did something to them, and deserved the abuse that went with it.
Each of couples admitted on ACA last night that it was hard to get along with the other couples while the renovations went on as they were in competition with each other along with the stress associated with conducting a home renovation. They now get along with each other but they will have that special relationship with a certain couple.
I for one loved Jason & Kirsten too. They seemed (in particular Kirsten) to have a personality that were along the lines of mine and I was able to symphatise with them a bit. I thought Jamie was the best looking chick.

People buy art for the perceived culture and class the item received from the 'spiritual' artist. Making your own lame art to fill a space on the wall seems to be missing the point completely. Also cushioned fabric on walls is a bad idea.
I didn't find jason and kirsten all that likeable, but everyone else was far worse in their smug attitudes against them. To the average person they were all latte sipping yuppies.

I wouldn't agree. Kirsten was fairly defensive about her actions (even though some of them were unacceptable ie not giving the $5000 to Dani & Monique) and was always standing up for herself.
The way she reacted to certain situations was fairly normal given some of the treatment she deserved. Wouldn't you be feeling the same if someone was having a go in a way you didn't like
