Rachmaninov May 7th, 2008, 04:48 PM Didn't notice that when you posted it in the ICC thread! Incredible.
Noticed that since it's so lit up right now. It looks like a third "gateway" from this angle too
hkskyline May 8th, 2008, 04:23 AM Good catch. I didn't notice it at first either! That photo is from Bowen Road?

SilentStrike August 27th, 2008, 11:20 PM this is such a beautiful tower! Why is it not on hk island? or at least kowloon at victoria harbour? It's location is so random.
Manila-X August 28th, 2008, 06:37 AM this is such a beautiful tower! Why is it not on hk island? or at least kowloon at victoria harbour? It's location is so random.
That's because Chinachem decides to develop it in Tsuen Wan as part of the Vision City project.
Yes the tower is beautiful but the original design was better sort of a modern version of The Chrysler

eyrie August 28th, 2008, 06:50 AM it's a nice building by day but I'm not so sure about the lighting at night.A bit tacky for me
Manila-X August 28th, 2008, 07:26 AM it's a nice building by day but I'm not so sure about the lighting at night.A bit tacky for me
Cause you have to see the building live! Just like most iconic HK buildings, it has a dazzling light effect.
hkskyline August 28th, 2008, 08:13 AM Vision City is the residential project happening across the street, and is separate from Nina Tower. In fact, the original design was to have Nina Tower look just like the Chrysler Building and make it the tallest building in the world. That plan was axed as it was right on the flight path to the new airport, and subsequently the world's tallest tower became 2 buildings with a different design.

My bad I first thought The Nina Tower was part of that project sort of like Union Square.
hkskyline August 28th, 2008, 11:31 AM My bad I first thought The Nina Tower was part of that project sort of like Union Square.
The two are quite separate developments, as Nina Tower has been on the books for quite a while - since the 90s. The Vision City website makes it clear what that project encompasses.
Langur August 29th, 2008, 07:16 AM You can see all 7 supertalls in that shotI can't find One Island East on that view. Where is it?
_00_deathscar August 29th, 2008, 11:38 AM It's barely visible - to the left of the photo, just aligned up against the mountain.
superchan7 August 29th, 2008, 06:38 PM Seven supertalls...I didn't know the Center was considered > 300m. Its spire looks more like a fancy antenna.
_00_deathscar August 29th, 2008, 07:07 PM The Center comes in at 343m with its spire.
luci203 August 30th, 2008, 08:01 AM Is just me, or this tower have the same "faith" as One Island East?

Densetsu November 8th, 2008, 05:17 PM The first picture looks like a render. :okay:
_00_deathscar November 8th, 2008, 05:26 PM This building is actually really nice, even during day time. I'm not a fan of its lighting scheme though, although, considering that it's so far from the central skyline, it's not too bad. If it were in the central skyline, it would/should have a better lighting scheme.

luci203 November 10th, 2008, 04:37 PM any idea if they will demolish all the ugly low rise aroud?
superchan7 November 11th, 2008, 07:58 AM It will happen gradually, when the govt. compensates residents for relocation in that area. Residents can be very vocal about preservation of their existing living environments, so urban renewal in Hong Kong sometimes can take a long time depending on the projects' circumstances.
hkskyline November 11th, 2008, 10:36 AM There seems to be an oversupply of new housing around Nina Tower though, and Tsuen Wan isn't the prettiest district to ask for high prices, which should keep redevelopment efforts in check.
gladisimo November 11th, 2008, 08:40 PM I'm curious as to how the office supply looks around Tsuen Wan, afaik (I might be wrong) Nina Tower is supposed to be an office tower?
What was nina's vision when she had the tower built?
ENDOPHINS November 11th, 2008, 09:59 PM http://property.mpfinance.com/ftp/Property/20081111/paa01/11la202.gif
Approved planning near nina Towers, TW5 is right beside nina
hkskyline November 12th, 2008, 09:49 AM Nina Tower project (the 2 towers) is a mix of office and hotel. I think the hotel should fare well if it caters for more budget-minded travellers as it is poorly connected to the MTR yet not too far from the airport.
Tsuen Wan is not an emerging office district like West Kowloon or Kowloon Bay. Most of the redevelopments these days are residential.
_00_deathscar November 12th, 2008, 01:41 PM How far is Nina Tower from an MTR exit?
luci203 November 12th, 2008, 02:21 PM They must redevelope that area soon.

It's actually a good thing that there's no redevelopment yet. It is in the older areas that you can find 'culture'. In Hong Kong you get a mix of poorer people living with richer people. This creates harmony and diversity in the society. I'm not against redevelopment, but all I am saying is that there is no problem with not redeveloping these buildings.

Skybean November 28th, 2008, 02:41 AM There is retail underneath the majority of housing estates (superblocks). While some may have some preconceived conception of slum-like housing tenements... there is nothing of the sort in Hong Kong. Who ever said these older areas have "culture" are very correct. They often have established stores and restaurants operated by the same family for many generations. You won't find repetitive chain stores here, but rather stores which are unique and have withstood the test of time. It is in these established neighbourhoods where there is a real sense of community. Super blocks are usually vibrant and well connected through public transit.
CULWULLA November 28th, 2008, 03:01 AM guys, another completed supertall. lets move it

You won't find repetitive chain stores here, but rather stores which are unique and have withstood the test of time. It is in these established neighbourhoods where there is a real sense of community. Super blocks are usually vibrant and well connected through public transit.Well but then ALL old commieblocks have "culture" and history (by definition), and "have withstood the test of time"(unless they crumbled of course), "there is a sense of community" there, and so on. The fact that some shops will make them "vibrant" is something that cannot influence the quality of life inside the apartments, I guess. The building on the left in the second pic is butt ugly and run down, there's no denying it. This is not to say I wish for it to be demolished and the people inside relocated, only I can't help noticing it.
