View Full Version : Singapore Skyline in 2009
RafflesCity May 13th, 2004, 12:09 AM Here are some simulations made by our dear huaiwei :okay:
They focus only on construction in the new downtown area of the city.
By 2006, 1 Raffles Quay at 245m gets completed.

By 2007, CityDev's tallest apartments in Singapore at 245m get completed.

redstone May 13th, 2004, 04:07 AM The Marina South area would be developed one day ,perhaps called Marina City?
We'll see it in perhaps 30 years time?
CW8 May 13th, 2004, 10:20 AM Can't wait for the CityDev's tallest apartments. It just looks so unique. And they should release a name for it soon. :D
eyetoeye May 13th, 2004, 10:51 AM Gosh. Talk about homes with a view!
huaiwei May 13th, 2004, 11:11 PM But you didnt mention what the green colour building is! :D
heirloom May 14th, 2004, 04:13 PM ntuc buildign?
i would want a rouge city please!
Magician May 15th, 2004, 05:00 AM WHAT?? They want to build an apartment in CBD?
huaiwei May 15th, 2004, 05:16 AM WHAT?? They want to build an apartment in CBD?
Yeah..you didnt hear about it? :D
But it is not the first 100% residential in the CBD thou. There is another one being built right now too...the Icon!
heirloom May 15th, 2004, 06:46 AM there are hdb flats also... built and to-be-built
huaiwei May 15th, 2004, 06:56 AM there are hdb flats also... built and to-be-built
But they are not within the CBD boundary....they are just beside it?
heirloom May 15th, 2004, 07:21 AM isnt cbd anywhere within erp zone? those spottiswoode park flats and some30 storey ones are within right?
huaiwei May 15th, 2004, 07:33 AM isnt cbd anywhere within erp zone? those spottiswoode park flats and some30 storey ones are within right?
Nope....there is a clear boundary for it....it dosent include the Chinatown shophouses you love so much...or the Bugis Area. Not even Orchard.
heirloom May 15th, 2004, 07:43 AM oh :! i didnt know that...
huaiwei May 15th, 2004, 07:48 AM oh :! i didnt know that...
I will have to find a map somewhere..(if it helps)...let me search for it later....
Cliff May 15th, 2004, 12:39 PM Emerald Gardens is one of the only (only 999yr leasehold residential building)full condos within the CBD, just next to Far East Square.
Bottom left hand corner with iliac roof.
http://skyscraperpage.com/gallery/data/500/85view.jpg
Its value dropped from S$1200/sqft in 1996 to $900/sqft now.
huaiwei May 15th, 2004, 12:47 PM Er..it is still outsaide the CBD boundary thou. :D
heirloom May 15th, 2004, 01:42 PM eeky - ugly
RafflesCity May 15th, 2004, 05:03 PM WHAT?? They want to build an apartment in CBD?
you didnt know? we were so excited about it. The news said that construction starts later this year.
Read about it here

RafflesCity May 15th, 2004, 05:04 PM eeky - ugly
Its not that bad, but they should have left that historical area alone.
huaiwei May 15th, 2004, 05:35 PM Its not that bad, but they should have left that historical area alone.
I suppose it happens to be empty before it was built?
Cliff May 16th, 2004, 01:42 AM Er..it is still outsaide the CBD boundary thou. :D
Really? But its only 5 mins walk to Raffles Place MRT Station!
I think it used to be a school or something. Thay still kept the old building as the entrance to the condo.
But it is a very unique place, imagine living in the heart of a historical district while enjoying the comforts of marble flooring and swimming pools.:D
RafflesCity May 16th, 2004, 03:06 PM The Marina South area would be developed one day ,perhaps called Marina City?
We'll see it in perhaps 30 years time?
Yup. Projected development for that time frame.

huaiwei May 16th, 2004, 03:15 PM Cool!! Was that a flash animation which you took screenshots of frame by frame?
RafflesCity May 16th, 2004, 03:18 PM yup..quite tedious! :D
But I seriously think this angle will offer a nice view of the future skyline. People have already said that the other angle 'spoils' it :bash:
I think great locations will be from on top of Esplanade or Swissotel in future. The Sheares Bridge not so anymore...Are you going to do anymore simulations? Maybe with 1 George Street?
Singapore skyline will get 'wider' in this angle by 2007 as it grows left.
http://www.sky.s64.pl/home/W/Sing2/s00.jpg
huaiwei May 16th, 2004, 03:24 PM I cant do much "simulations" except draw plain boxes...hahaha! :D
In reference to the sequence u just posted, I notice how they intend to develop that taller project in the cover of the L shape first. That would be more interesting for us! :D
RafflesCity May 16th, 2004, 03:28 PM yah it will! They probably need to develop that area next since they are going to build the pedestrian bridge across so people need a reason to cross! :D
huaiwei May 16th, 2004, 03:35 PM yah it will! They probably need to develop that area next since they are going to build the pedestrian bridge across so people need a reason to cross! :D
Oh yes probably! :D It would be more intesresting to see both corners anchored first, and the central areas filling up over time. It helps to bring energy there early on.
I am looking forward to be able to walk the entire perimeter of Marina Bay soon! :D
RafflesCity May 16th, 2004, 03:37 PM It will also make climbing the Sheares Bridge redundant?
Actually you can still get a decent skyline shot from Marina City Park I think. The new buildings wont block Capital Tower and co.
huaiwei May 16th, 2004, 03:44 PM Hmm....I dont think Benjamin Shears will loose its nice view. It actually still has a clear view of the older skyline, and it is nicely framed by the new buildings to the left, and with the Marina Centre ones to the right!
Marina City Park might no longer be a great place for old skyline views, but in future, it will most prob showcase an entirely different kind of "skylin" not unlike Central Park in NYC?
redstone May 16th, 2004, 04:12 PM I suppose then boats would be 'trapped' in the Bay ,since the bridge is so low?
RafflesCity May 16th, 2004, 10:12 PM yah, but in future there will be the maritime hub further out. We are basically moving the city further out.
ryanr June 7th, 2004, 06:44 AM Cool...:okay: Singapore has a great future skyline coming up:)
babystan03 September 5th, 2004, 11:11 AM 2007 seems to be a happening year for Singapore.......
RafflesCity September 5th, 2004, 01:44 PM ^
things are already starting to pick up this year in terms of construction activity..with worries of whether 1 Raffles Quay being built over, I am now awaiting news of the BFC
eyetoeye September 5th, 2004, 01:53 PM It'll take a long time, though... by 2025, i'll be.... *does simple mathematics*..... 37!
RafflesCity September 5th, 2004, 02:03 PM well think about the fact that our parents lived through the skyscraper boom at Shenton Way. It started in the 70s.
eyetoeye September 5th, 2004, 02:14 PM Hehe. Oh yeah. But hey! I'm a Gen Y fellow. I'm spoilt! I want things instant!
RafflesCity September 5th, 2004, 02:17 PM So is that what kids say these days? "I'm Gen Y!"
eyetoeye September 5th, 2004, 02:20 PM No lah. Just trying to sound witty. Obviously not doing a very good job. Nevermind, i'll jst go back to my dorky old self
babystan03 September 12th, 2004, 07:31 AM No lah. Just trying to sound witty. Obviously not doing a very good job. Nevermind, i'll jst go back to my dorky old self
I'm glad you did that.....the gen Y thing just feel odd on you....
eyetoeye September 13th, 2004, 08:00 AM Haha. Yeah. But it's true what... i fit the typical gen Y stereotype:
-Spoilt
-Too soft
-dependent on government/institution
-doesn't take initiative enought
-individualistic
etc etc etc
babystan03 September 13th, 2004, 10:49 AM Haha. Yeah. But it's true what... i fit the typical gen Y stereotype:
-Spoilt
-Too soft
-dependent on government/institution
-doesn't take initiative enought
-individualistic
etc etc etc
Emmm...maybe looks is deceiving.....
But then which kid in Singapore isn't like that??? :wallbash:
heirloom September 13th, 2004, 12:06 PM how do you define too soft? i think the definition of spoilt should change over time as well, as does the definition of poverty. we can't really listen to our parents when they tell us we are spoilt or whatever because their measuring stick comes from an era where most people live in what we would now consider to be absolute poverty.
babystan03 October 3rd, 2004, 03:31 AM how do you define too soft? i think the definition of spoilt should change over time as well, as does the definition of poverty. we can't really listen to our parents when they tell us we are spoilt or whatever because their measuring stick comes from an era where most people live in what we would now consider to be absolute poverty.
Too soft?? as in can't take hardship I think??
heirloom October 3rd, 2004, 04:03 AM 'hardship' changes over time too
babystan03 October 3rd, 2004, 04:41 AM 'hardship' changes over time too
So what's hardship now??

redstone January 22nd, 2005, 04:09 PM SGX on the very left leh...
huaiwei January 22nd, 2005, 04:19 PM hmm seems like they will be blocking the view of the SGX pair, how i wish the SGX was infront of it.
Haha why? You prefer that pair ah.
ahlipp January 22nd, 2005, 04:48 PM SGX on the very left leh...
nobe...i think tht the SGX pair u see on the left is just a projection not connected to the main photo, from tht angle, the pair wld really be blocked i think
hyacinthus January 22nd, 2005, 04:53 PM nobe...i think tht the SGX pair u see on the left is just a projection not connected to the main photo, from tht angle, the pair wld really be blocked i think
Hmmm... ORQ would not block the SGX pair... quite clear in this photo.

ahlipp January 22nd, 2005, 05:01 PM Hmmm... ORQ would not block the SGX pair... quite clear in this photo.
say if we adopt tht angle whereby the SGX pair wld'nt be block, then i think tht angle wld not cover the skyline for the banks??
hyacinthus January 22nd, 2005, 05:03 PM say if we adopt tht angle whereby the SGX pair wld'nt be block, then i think tht angle wld not cover the skyline for the banks??
sorry. i dun get what you were trying to say.

say from this angle, can u still see SGX with ORQ
hyacinthus January 22nd, 2005, 05:35 PM Now I see what you meant. :)
correct. ORQ will block part of SGX pair's view from this angle.
ahlipp January 22nd, 2005, 05:45 PM Now I see what you meant. :)

SkylineTurbo January 23rd, 2005, 06:09 AM Change the perspective of the skyline for sure.
RafflesCity January 23rd, 2005, 12:46 PM hai....:ohno: ....my SGX :ohno:
so thats one of your favourite buildings in Singapore?
actually, the angle from Marina Bay station shouldnt obscure it still...will try to find or get a pic of it
RafflesCity April 1st, 2005, 12:28 PM In 2009, the Sail and 1 Raffles Quay should be complete
http://img129.exs.cx/img129/1402/skyline20097pf.jpg
redstone April 1st, 2005, 12:30 PM What's that round monster???
RafflesCity April 1st, 2005, 12:37 PM it sits at the edge of the reclaimed land...supposedly one of those 'landmark' sites that can be taller than average?
huaiwei April 1st, 2005, 01:31 PM Oh....I was trying to figure out the angle. :D Anyway I tot they duwan to build such a monster there liao?
RafflesCity April 1st, 2005, 01:36 PM ^
where did you hear that from?!
huaiwei April 1st, 2005, 01:47 PM Duno leh...got this promontary there also? Tot it will be used for yet another musuem or something...
RafflesCity April 1st, 2005, 01:49 PM dont think so..thats the central promontory site...oh well...it will be a long way before we are contemplating that site ^^
anyway this angle shows just how wide the Sail can be, it looks wider than NTUC's fat side!
Cliff April 1st, 2005, 03:12 PM Actually, the Sail is quite ugly...
It only looks good from one angle, and thats the angle that they keep advertising.
Pengui April 1st, 2005, 03:16 PM Let's wait for the final product ^^ They tend to look better than the model... Hopefully the Sail will be the same :-)
Worlds of Earth April 1st, 2005, 03:25 PM I like that model. Very massive.
Cliff April 1st, 2005, 03:46 PM Let's wait for the final product ^^ They tend to look better than the model... Hopefully the Sail will be the same :-)
At least the model at the Sail's showroom itself is quite nice.
redstone April 1st, 2005, 03:53 PM Hope 1RQ would be sames colour as the model....
ZXAVIER June 16th, 2005, 11:02 AM Wonder how the singapore skyline will be like with the addition of 2 IRs and Singapore Flyer..

somehow I think that might be worth it...but I dont think I'll go too often
babystan03 December 22nd, 2005, 03:05 PM ^ I think I'll prepare an empty memory card for the S$30 ride......
RafflesCity December 22nd, 2005, 03:12 PM yah...should make it worth it...the ride should be about 40 min at least I guess.
I wont be surprised if at the IR, they may also have some thing for the public at the top, if they build a highrise...like a restaurant/bar/obs deck
babystan03 December 22nd, 2005, 03:14 PM ^ If they build something like that, I believe it'll be super classy.....
Cliff December 22nd, 2005, 04:02 PM Hmm.. this should go here :

Mr.ASAP December 26th, 2005, 08:06 AM you can get cool renders of the entire marina bay including the BFC + sail + IR...from the EDGE magazine (year end edition) very nice render and close up of sentosa cove and BFC :) though i am not sure if copies are still available :)
Sinjin P. December 26th, 2005, 08:08 AM ^^ Wow!

can you remember how the BFC appeared in the renderings?
Mr.ASAP December 26th, 2005, 04:53 PM can you remember how the BFC appeared in the renderings?
yes had a few towers and a central tower with a large park on the ground floor....sky gardens on the central prominent tower is like that of 1 George.... the IR had like twin towers? with those large spot light beaming out like hollywood lights :D:D and the backdrop showing the completed marina bay has like a est.40 storey twin tower (rectangular block) renderings...... i am not sure if the image is posted here before......also featured was some condo in sentosa cove as for the IR in snetosa nothing was mentioned or renderings about it was published...
but the magazine offers a blown up image of it :) about half an A4 size...its under Hot properties or transactions (something like that) and of course Sail at marina bay was featured the best for its stunning selling price
JoSin December 28th, 2005, 12:46 PM I just hope they will build the buildings at a faster rate. I hope the whole new downtown is built by 2015.
