$25m Surfers project begins next week
IT'S full steam ahead on the $25 million Surfers Paradise foreshore redevelopment, with work starting on February 1.
Mayor Ron Clarke said the council and the State Government had contributed funding, with initial work starting at the northern end of the Esplanade, between Elkhorn Avenue and the new Soul high-rise development.
"The managing contractor moves on to the foreshore area on Monday, February 1 to begin setting up its on-site facilities," he said.
"Within days equipment and workers ... will begin the job of creating a safer, more accessible public space and improving infrastructure for recreational activities and major events.

"We wanted to wait until the holiday period was over.
"It is very gratifying to see the project about to take off."
