Most Japanese think Ireland is part of the UK.

well IBEH, from someone english who's been teaching in japan for 6 months....

japanese people seem to regard british people in quite high regard.....they think we are quite similar to them compared to people from other nations......(which contains an element of truth)

we both drive on the same side of the road, like gardening, like drinking tea, have monarchs, had empires, have high population densities, are both archipelago's off large continents and have both had rather long, uninterrupted histories and have rarely been invaded which has led to lots of tradition. generally japanese people are like british people that were portrayed in victorian times, conservative, punctual, keep their word and very well mannered.

there the similarities end, japan is more inward than the uk, this is reflected by its trade and investment figures...britain trades more as a percentage of its gdp with the outside world than japan....japan exports lots but doesnt import so much apart from oil and gas.....you dont see too many foreign cars in this country....as a result japan must be the least cosmopolitan country in the developed world. you cant really 'become' japanese....you will always be a gaijin!

japanese people generally have the old british stereotypes, most think that scotland is part of england and the same with ireland.

many have not heard of wales. about 90% need about a 5 minute explanation of the union jack and what constitutes the uk, great britain and how scottish people are both scottish and british, but british people aren't necessarily english

ww2 is generally a taboo subject, japanese people dont like talking about it....i haven't really brought it up apart from when hiroshima survivors have told me about their experiences in lessons etc.....

so britain......what do they like and what have they heard of???

they love peter rabbit, the lake district, the cotswolds, windermere, harrods, the ritz, burberry, the beatles, queen (music), london and bath. many seem to hold the royals in respect, like they do with their emperor, akihito. lots of japanese youth seem to want to go to surrey university or live in london for a bit. lots follow premiership football teams, there are quite a few man u, chelsea, arsenal and fulham supporters.

they generally find the english (and aussie/kiwi) accents easier to understand than the american ones.

generally i would say that from my travels and experiences the japanese hold british people in quite high regard....which makes for a pleasant change.

:)

japan exports lots but doesnt import
You must know that Britain's tech industries are broken down many decades ago and can't compete with Japan in terms of the quality that's why they turned into the service industries and tabloid life style, cheaply insulting the other countries. Actually their design is cheap as hell. Fucking brits puking some bullshit from the mouth. Die.

Acutally if it's getting the war with Britain, Japan will 100% win. Britain can't do anything without licking ass of the US and cheap tabloid media.

marty are you all right there?

Why on hell's earth would japan want to go to war with the uk? if it did, which wouldn't happen, this is a ridiculous situation, britain would 'win' in the time it took for ICBMs to reach Japan from the missile silos. As far as i know Japan doesn't have ICBMs. Or nukes.

However, if it was a conventional war Japan would probably win as it has bigger military spending than the uk and could militarise, if it wanted very quickly, and has a huge industrial base that britain has lost over the past decades. And Japan actually still builds stuff. Why Japan would want to go to war with the UK and vice/versa is beyond me however.

I can't believe that i'm being brought to this subject. All i can say, and Nick will support me here, is that i've never met a single japanese like marty,

Friendly. The service industries serve Britain very well thank you very much. And our design is cheap as hell - why do i see squillions of Japanese wearing Burberry jackets then? Vodafone are quite big in Japan as well.

What are you going on about?

Japan is generally assumed to be a shadow nuclear super power. They got the world's third largest stockpile of plutonium right after the USA and Russia. Experts think that Japan can built a bomb within 30 days.
