Westchester getting its own Trump Tower
May 14, 2004, 3:03 PM EDT
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Donald Trump, the longtime real estate mogul and recent TV star, jumped into the White Plains building boom Friday, agreeing to market, manage and _ surprise! _ lend his name to a 35-story luxury condominium tower.
The building will now be known as the Trump Tower at City Center, not to be confused with the Trump Tower in Manhattan. Trump will be a partner with Louis Cappelli, who developed the $325 million City Center project in downtown White Plains.
The project includes rental as well as condominium housing, stores such as Target and Circuit City, restaurants, a 15-screen movie theater and the White Plains Performing Arts Center.
The Trump building, where construction has reached the 16th floor, will have 212 luxury condominiums and is expected to be finished next year.
In a statement issued by Cappelli, Trump said the building "will not only attract the highest level of Westchester purchasers, but will also attract purchasers looking for an alternative to living in Manhattan."
Trump already has one luxury housing project in Westchester _ the homes on his Trump National Golf Course in Briarcliff Manor, which sell for up to $10 million each.
"I would not be surprised if many of our purchasers at Trump Tower join Trump National," he said.
Cappelli said Trump's name "enhances the entire project, and is a huge asset. Not only is Donald J. Trump the most prominent residential developer in Manhattan, he is in other prestige areas such as Palm Beach, Fla., as well. He also has the highest rated program on television with "The Apprentice."
Dash2110 May 15th, 2004, 05:17 PM I knew it was only a matter of time before White Plains got something like this. I used to go there when my mom and her friend dragged me along when they went shopping at Nordstroms, and I remember it having a pretty impressive skyline for it's size.
Which reminds me, what is considered the "limits" of the New York metropolitan area? I looked up the city of Peekskill on skyscrapers.com, and it listed it as being in the metropolitan area, and I live only about 10 minutes from Peekskill. If that's the case, places like White Plains, Hawthorne, Scarsdale, Mamaroneck, and maybe even my town would all fall under it. :D
Agglomeration May 17th, 2004, 07:18 PM I've been to White Plains several times and that building is one of several big projects rising in the downtown area. There is also a pair of 17-floor red-brick apartment buildings that were recently completed... I didn't get the name of them though.
Third of a kind June 20th, 2004, 05:22 PM dash..the metro limit in ny is um I think up to putnam or dutchess...and i'm not so sure out in ct or nj....I work a block away from where they're building all of that stuff in white plains..and its really garbage...I was born and raised in that immediate vicinity..and y'know that stuff isn't really even nice to look at..those new apts have some outrageous prices....oh yeah agglomeration I think those buildings are called bank street commons..this dude cappelli is about to build two more buildings..about the same height as the city center blgs being built across the street on main and court...well only time will tell how they turn out right?

More than 15 percent of the units in the Trump Tower at City Center and The Lofts at City Center in White Plains are under contract — and the formal opening of the sales center is still a week away.
Developer Louis R. Cappelli, president of Cappelli Enterprises, said the response is exceeding his "wildest dreams."
"Any doubts about the viability of sophisticated, high-rise and loft style living in downtown White Plains fade very quickly when you see this kind of response," said Cappelli, developer of the $325 million City Center project.
Cappelli said he was confident there was a demand in White Plains for luxury condominiums with price tags as high as $1.45 million.
Cappelli estimated total sales to date at more than $25 million.
Earlier this year, Cappelli sold one of two residential towers at the retail, residential and entertainment complex to Donald J. Trump. The renamed Trump Tower at City Center, a 35-story building, boasts 212 condominium units with amenities such as marble baths, porcelain tile floors and, in some units, 11-foot-high ceilings.
The units range from 1,040-square-foot one-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath units to 2,600-square-foot three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath units and sell for $450,000 to $1.45 million.
In addition to the condominiums at City Center, Cappelli is marketing 29 units in an adjacent building, The Lofts at City Center. They include 27 apartment units ranging in size from an 890-square-foot one-bedroom unit to a 1,920-square-foot three-bedroom unit and two 3,000-square-foot town homes. The sales prices are $408,000 to $1.25 million.
Both buildings are scheduled to be ready for occupancy in mid-2005.
Although the sales office is opening Oct. 17 at 227 Main St., White Plains, Cappelli began offering appointments last week to potential buyers on wait lists. About 50 percent of the first 50 people to look at the properties signed contracts, he said.
Buyers include part-time residents who spend winter in warmer climates, empty-nesters who are selling larger homes and Manhattan commuters.
In a news release, Trump described them as "the highest level of Westchester purchasers, as well as buyers looking for a luxury living alternative to Manhattan."
LeCom October 10th, 2004, 10:44 PM Yea, I remember first time driving by White Plains and I was like whoa! that town has a huge skyline for its size, and it's growing.
Third of a kind October 11th, 2004, 09:32 AM cappelli is buying up property, man he's really torn down main street for that whole devlopment
I think that the building that has already been put up has all of its condo's sold already...which is nuts..I'm saying for the price being paid of those apts you might as well buy something in the city
I mean they're really trying to do alot to white plains aside from these towers they're building..its interesting to me because I grew up about three blocks away from this (over on lexington)
they just started working on the foundation for his new building on main and mamaroneck/court street
NYaddict October 11th, 2004, 12:03 PM any renderings available guys?
NY1 December 31st, 2004, 07:46 PM I wonder if Trump will ever become a major developer in cities such as LA and SF on the west coast?

New Jack City December 31st, 2004, 08:14 PM Thanks for the model!
Looks similar to the towers he's putting up at Trump Place, still pretty good nonetheless.
The top reminds me alot of Citylights in Queens:

BTW, welcome to the forums NY1!
Vlad the Great December 31st, 2004, 11:17 PM I'll need to check out White Plains next time I'm in Westchester....They've got some decent sized projects going on.
It does look similar to Citylights. Except a bit smaller, of course.
GOD now I've got that Journey song stuck in my head "...oh when the lights..go down..in the city..." I wonder if the owners of Citylights named it after the song? Maybe Pelli himself named it lol.
BTW welcome NY1.
