hi gilli, I heard lot of road medians were removed. do u have any idea y this stupid action were taken?:bash::ohno:
srinivas January 30th, 2010, 01:48 PM medians turn black and yellow in kk nagar 80ft road and anna nagar 80ft road.
srinivas January 30th, 2010, 01:55 PM hi gilli, I heard lot of road medians were removed. do u have any idea y this stupid action were taken?:bash::ohno:
it includes few roundtanas also. is it because MC felt that the removal of these medians would decongest traffic ?
Madurai gilli January 30th, 2010, 07:39 PM hi gilli, I heard lot of road medians were removed. do u have any idea y this stupid action were taken?:bash::ohno:
Hi nala,
That is really a stupid and core-idiotic thing...When all the cities going for creation of Medians in roads to reduce the accident-risks, our people are thinking of demolishing it inventing a new truth that no-medians in the road reduces the risks..:bash:..Once again We are going BACKKK..:ohno:
Instead of looking for a temporary traffic relief things, Why can't MC/Traffic commissioner look for the permanent things to decongest the traffic and avoiding accident-risks ? I doubt whether our people in power have the sense of distant-vision ?...:ohno:
I will be highly satisfied if atleast the Traffic improvement projects like new ROB's,Bridges,Sub-ways,Elevated highways,BRTS etc.. made real for our city...I pray the God for those projects to be approved by the center and also to escape from the Hands of the Cheaters in MC who spoiled the beautiful temple city so-far..Badly seeking our Hon.MP's indulgence here...
srinivas January 31st, 2010, 03:39 PM A proposal for improving road traffic in the city at a cost of Rs. 1,636 crore had been sent for the Union Government’s approval.
hope so this project gets sanctioned. lets burden MKA once again . its all upto him .
Maduraikarainga January 31st, 2010, 05:31 PM Renaming Bye pass road!!!
Y still MC and we MDU ppl call it as Bye pass road. Now it is one of major commercial hub in Madurai . The name can be changed rite? Is there any idea of changing the name of Bye pass road. like DGL Road/Banglore Road/Commercial road/High street !!!

Really a meaningful-demand..Why cant MC look for renaming the Bye-pass road ?
Atleast here, none of our people should fight for naming the road with their community leader's name etc..In common, MC can rename it with freedom-fighters name as :
* BOSE Road
* Bhaghat Singh road or as :
* Bangalore road
* Virudhu road
* Dindigul road etc..

Madurai gilli January 31st, 2010, 07:43 PM Airport/Avaniyapuram - South Gate - GRH - MIBT - High-court - TVS Srichakra - PRP Industries - Melur
This route can benefit a lot for TNSTC and Southern Madurai people...
* A lots of workers are employed in Industries along the Melur belt like TVS-Srichakra tyres, TVS-Firestones, TVS-ICS, PRP Industries, Some other companies & mills...they will be benefited to a greater extent.
* A no. of students are studying in Schools, colleges in this belt..For ex..Madurai Agricultural college, ULTRA BEST Dental college, ULTRA Engineering college,Teacher training insts., polytechnics and many schools..they will be highle benefited..
* AVP - GRH - MIBT is already a successful route and also MIBT - High Court - Melur is also already a successful route..So, just TNSTC is connecting both the routes and make into a single-one that really lowers the management cost..
* In addition, the people from Avaniyapuram,Airport surroundings,Villapuram,South gate,Mahal etc. will get a DIRECT Bus service to High-court,Othakadai & Melur region..
* And People from Melur region, Othakadai,High-court are getting their Direct bus services to Airport/Avaniyapuram..
Hope TNSTC-Mdu consider this new route and launch buses soon..:)

^^ we can discuss on the possible creation of new bus-routes in madurai..Please tell the reasons also when u post a new route for discussion..
Now a days the route nos keep on changing.. i couldnt able to track it correctly. But TNSTC MDU have introduced many new routes in last 1 year. Some route number changes also happened.
One example:
A5 - TPK to Anna Nagar is changed to 5 AN now. they started replacing A and B before the nos.. initially they added A and B to mention the services as ALSS and BLSS. now the difference is gone. :)
They also changed A14 and B14 (Thirunagar to Anna Nagar) to just 14.
Guys,
we can come up with some new routes and pass it to TNSTC MDU through a proper channel. Madurai is going to get 300 buses thru JNNURM. with that they can add some new innovative routes in the city.

Guys this is my view, what do you think are the top three Best/Worst Roads in MDU.
Best roads are
1. Alagarkovil road
2. road towards court via circuit house..
3. KK Nagar road with gud medians...
4. Gandhi museum road
Lake view road is not gud now..
Worst are
1. TPK road..
2. By Pass road..
Madurai gilli February 1st, 2010, 04:58 PM Yesterday, 150 new SLF buses and 50 new marcopolo buses were introduce in Coimbatore by MK.Stalin in accordance with world Tamil conference..
When will the Madurai TNSTC Morons think of inaugurating 300 new SLF buses bought under JNNURM ? Why they have to look for date n time to serve the Madurai people ? If nothing goes wrong, they can start the new buses for operation even from tomorrow...Or else It makes think of some other techno-corruption even in the case of newly-bought buses !:bash:
Madurai gilli February 1st, 2010, 05:12 PM Best roads are

2. By Pass road..
As per my views, no roads in the city is good...indicates the poor-administration of MC..
** First of all, the roads connecting Temple-circle (City-center) from all the 4 directions are very worst that itself will damage the image of Madurai..
** Then, Important AIRPORT Road...very worst one we can't see in any other big cities in india...A major reason for the lack of industrialist's interest on Madurai to start their business..This road itself will make them guess how the other roads in the city will be..
** Bye-Pass road - Noway we can tell it as Mt.Road of Madurai...If we say, it ll be a great shame for us..So, A kind request for media people not to quote Bye-pass road as Madurai's Mt.Road..
** Ring-road..Even the ring-road looks so dangerous in multiple areas..No security for the bye-passing riders also..
** Roads in northen parts of the city are somewhat better comparable to the above-ones...But no chance of extending it..Also with Muds..
**Even the road in front of the Madurai High court is very worst...There is no justice for the road leading to high-court itself..
**Personally felt that Madurai doesn't have well-planned roads..It'll be good if MC plans new wide road(atleast 200ft..) atleast for airport..They should try to connect Airport with all the 4-directions by 200 ft. wide roads..
Atlast, I feel it'll be better if MC sets-up a special commitee for improving ROAD-TRANSPORT in Madurai city/dt..Praying God to save the funds coming from JNNURM for Madurai road developments from the special commitee..MC should appoint the interested persons for this commitee..though it is hardly possible, it will be good if MC does it..

*KK nagar main road is not well maintained. pits have been dug for cables and not closed.
*and bye pass road will be soon upgraded to 4 lane at the cost of 25 crores. hope that bye pass joins the list of best roads in madurai soon.
*Ring road at present i think is the best since now it is 4 laned and the NHAI has bought it from the MC.
srinivas February 1st, 2010, 05:16 PM i took pictures of the test track of TVS tyres . soon i will post it.it is located in the back side of lakshmi school ( inside the campus ). since it is a private road it is well kept.

Ring road in Madurai is not 4-laned one..it remains the same..I dono whether you're talking about the Samayanallur-Virudhunagar road..
Madurai gilli February 1st, 2010, 08:38 PM Tirumangalam - Tiruparankundram - Periyar - Simmakal - Goripalayam - Pudur - Azhagarkoil
Thinking in a distant route, TNSTC is now looking only at MIBT-Tirumangalam..
But the above said route will be sure a HIT as already Tirumangalam - Periyar is a succesful route and Periyar - Azhagarkoil is a most successful one..They can combine and give a new route to the people so that they can utilise it..
Indeed, People from Tirumangalam,TPK & nearby towns will get a direct bus service to Azhagarkoil & Pudur..Besides the students of schools, colleges & workers of mills, small industries located in this route will be greatly benefited..
Also it will be a boon to the Tourists of Azhagar-koil..The people coming from Southern districts going to Azhagarkoil can get-down at Tirumangalam and take a direct bus service, saving the time and reducing the difficulties..
Madurai February 2nd, 2010, 06:01 AM ^^
Is this a route that TNSTC is plying currently? This looks like a loooooooooong route for a city bus. It should be around 45 Kms. Will anyone be interested to have an End-to-End journey on this? If it has limited stops, then it's Ok.
Madurai February 2nd, 2010, 06:03 AM it includes few roundtanas also. is it because MC felt that the removal of these medians would decongest traffic ?
Probably, its due to the pressure from shop owners. Many shops lose business due to medians. People avoid some shops if they have to go thru a longer route and come back. Also, there could be parking issues.
Whoever makes such decisions should be :bash: and medians should come up on all the major roads.
srinivas February 2nd, 2010, 11:32 AM Ring road in Madurai is not 4-laned one..it remains the same..I dono whether you're talking about the Samayanallur-Virudhunagar road..
i am talkin about the one which starts near meenakshi mission hospital.
Madurai gilli February 2nd, 2010, 02:11 PM i am talkin about the one which starts near meenakshi mission hospital.
Srinivas, If I am not wrong, the ring road starting from MMHRC is not a 4-laned one...In fact NHAI/MC has not even thought of doing it..If they 4-lane this road also when the road improvement projects are taken, it will be better..

Dear Madurai,
This is not the route already in... It is our request...As all the 300 new buses are SLF in very good condition, I dont think running those buses in the above route will be in trouble...Also The distance is around 50 kms..The Bus should be having less no. of stops with even some special fare(affordable)..
THE HINDU paper in Madurai advised TNSTC-Madurai to run city-buses to places upto 60 kms from the city-center..
They added to follow the MTC-Chennai as they connect all the important nearby towns such as tiruvallur, sriperumpudur, kanchipuram, chengalpet, manali, mahabalipuram etc..
If I am not wrong,
**Tiruvallur is around 60 kms from their hub T.Nagar
**Sriperumpudur is around 50 kms from T.nagar
**Kanchipuram is around 75 kms from T.nagar
**Chengalpet is around 60 kms from T.Nagar
**Mahabalipuram is around 75 kms T.Nagar
But they are having the MTC Buses in all the above routes ..
In addition, they're having CMBT-Mahabalipuram buses which will add another 10 kms from the existing-one..so, if i am not wrong - around 80 kms approx.
Note: Moffusil buses are also going from CMBT to same Mamallapuram..
But the Routes are much successful and MTC is seeing a huge profit with their distant MTC bus services..
Why can't such a network be planned in Madurai ? HINDU also stressed the same so that TNSTC-Madurai can utilise all the 300 new JNNURM buses & A/c city buses in evernew routes and serve the Madurai dt nearby town people also..Because, If I am not wrong..
Majority of the people from the nearby district towns such as :
* Nilacottah
* Sivaganga
* Arupukottai
* Virudhunagar
* Manamadurai
* Natham
* T.Kallupatti/Perayur depends much on Madurai city in any of their life needs
Already TNSTC-Mdu is running some :
* Periyar - Natham
which if i am not wrong, the total distance must be around 50 kms..
** Also A village after Tirupachethi & very close to Manamadurai has already a city-bus service to Periyar Bus terminus..Truly speaking, Manamadurai is just 5-10 kms ahead or 10-15 mins drive from that village...Why can't such a new route can be formed upto Manamadurai town...in turn it will really benefit the Manamadurai & its surroundings people..
** Already we have city bus services to the villages after shekanoorani..Why can't this route be extended upto Usilampatti..?
** The same in the case of south...we have city-buses already upto Kalkurichi which is very nearer to Arupukottai..Why can't this route be extended to APK ?
**We have City-buses upto Vadipatti and few to villages after vadipatti..this can be extended upto Kodai road..
**We have buses upto Sholavandhan and few to villages after it...this can be extended upto Nilacottah
Hope the TNSTC-Mdu will consider all these things and create new fresh networks conncting all the surrounding nearby district towns..
Nothing is like distant route...If it seems to be benefiting the people, nothing wrong in implementing those routes..
I am sure that those long routes will never fail in collection also bcz it forms a great network with signicant towns and no. of villages..
^^Hope all these areas will be the AGGLOMERATIONS of Madurai once everything goes well and Industrialisation of Madurai and south succeeds...
Thank you..Please reply me your opinion if i am wrong..:)

Oh, then it's really a good news...As far as I was there a few months back, I saw 4-laning of Tuticorin NH after airport...But the ring road commencing from Mandela nagar remained the same...Then I saw a 4-lane road connecting the ring road and melur road near Pondykoil..
But it will be good if the present stretch from MMHRC to Tirumangalam was taken for 4-laning..Hope the pictures soon from u..:)
Madurai February 2nd, 2010, 11:37 PM Dear Gilli,
I agree with your points. But for such long distance buses, the stops should be limited.
However, my opinion is little different. For such long distances, we should be looking for mass transportation. I prefer suburban trains over buses. I know it's not possible for Alagarkovil. But, we can definitely have it in Madurai-Nilakottai(Dindigul), Madurai-Virudhunagar (even Sivakasi), Madurai-Manamadurai etc., When the Madurai-Bodi line is converted to BG, we can even have suburban trains in that route which will cover the IT park in the future.
Arul Murugan February 3rd, 2010, 01:30 AM They added to follow the MTC-Chennai as they connect all the important nearby towns such as tiruvallur, sriperumpudur, kanchipuram, chengalpet, manali, mahabalipuram etc..

It is because Chennai is metropolitan city with 80lakhs population with 1100Sqkm approx. All other places it can be called as mofusil buses if it is plying more than 35KM atleast and not as city buses, same goes with Trichy-Thanjavur, Coimbatore-Tiruppur, Salem-Erode routes.
dhandapanik February 3rd, 2010, 06:19 AM last year they started Thirunagar-Periar-Simmakkal-Goripalayam-Mattuthavani-Melur route with no 75D. But this bus is stopped and it is running in periar - Melur route. I think they can restart this service.
They also stopped 44T TPK-Periar-Pudhur-Alagarkovil route.
New routes which i'm thinking are
1. TPK-Periar-Arapalayam-Samayanallur-Vadipatti.
2. Thirumangalam-Thirunagar-TPK-Avaniapuram-Theppakulam-Anna Nagar-Mattuthavani.
3. Thirumangalam-Periar-Arapalayam-Samayanallur
4. Palanganatham-By Pass Rd-Fathima College-Sellur-Goripalayam-Court-Mattuthavani
5. Arapalayam-Simmakkal-Anna bus stand-KK Nagar-Mattuthavani
6. Arapalayam-Goripalayam-Thapal Thanthi Nagar
7. Arapalayam-Goripalayam-Pudhur-Surveyor Colony-Alagarkovil
8. Anna Nagar - KK Nagar - Mattuthavani - Surveyor Colony - Kallandhiri - Alagarkovil(this will give direct connection bw anna nagar/mattuthavani with Alagarkovil).
Need some new routes from TVS nagar also.
mduvignesh February 3rd, 2010, 08:05 AM Dear Dhandapani,
No... New routes can be tried without touching Simmakkal and Therkuvasal.
Let me give you a example - Thiruppuvanam/ Viraganoor Ringroad /Anupanadi to MG nagar/ P & T nagar/Koodal Nagar/Iyer Bangalow/Pudur via Teppakulam, Anna Nagar, Anna bus stand, Goripalayam (or) Teppakulam, Anna Nagar, Mattuthavani.
One more, Mattuthavani to koodal Nagar via Pudur(surveyor colony), Natham Road(iyer bangalow area),MG Nagar.
Only mini buses are there in the second mentioned route.
Already I have discussed with Dhandapani some time back. Let me come with some new routes soon.

Dhandapani,
I am requesting for an extension of service from Anna nagar to Viraganoor ringroad or Anupanadi like SR style
dhandapanik February 3rd, 2010, 08:22 AM Dhandapani,
I am requesting for an extension of service from Anna nagar to Viraganoor ringroad or Anupanadi like SR style
Thats a gud idea.. and some more here.
1. Arapalayam-By Pass rd-Periar/Crimebranch - Therkuvasal - Theppakulam - Anna nagar
2. Arapalayam-Periar-TPK-Avaniapuram-Airport.. we have one new bus introduced in this route starting from periar.. route no is 5X.
3. Periar - Vasantha Nagar - By Pass road - Arapalayam - Sellur - Pudhur (help in getting pudhur connectivity)
few routes can be added with Koodal Nagar Rs connectivity too.. Guys is it possible for us to fwd these things to TNSTC MDU?

Dear Raja,
I agree with you regarding suburban services for Madurai is very much needed, as it is also my long time dream.
Also we have discussed in SSC MDU Region I a lot about connecting Thiruparankundrum to Avaniapuram to Viraganoor ringroad(touching MDU - MNM line) to Mattuthavani to melur(to pudhukottai) by new line.
Madurai - melur - pudukottai new line was surveyed by SR, let us hope they start it by another 5 to 10 years.

I think madurai will get suburban or metro once the IT parks get ready. if you take a look in IT sez layout, it is mentioned that the railway line will be extended untill MKU. so most probably madurai will witness suburban rails soon. lets hope so.
Maduraikarainga February 3rd, 2010, 06:16 PM Koyembedu Vs Mattuthavani
Though the CMBT is located in Koyembedu ,chennai Corporation calls it like CMBT
Why not MIBT located in Mattuthavani is not called as MIBT. Y MC is not making it as official one. all the bus boards are in the name MATTUTHAVANI.

This article is telling that the Ayyankottai village near Madurai is facing problems by setting-up the Subway there instead of Nagari..The villagers complained that the plan of making the subway at Nagari was shifted to Ayyankottai because of the influences of 17 private companies in Nagari...Also NHAI displayed a board telling NAGARI at the village of Ayyankottai..So, fearing Villagers had decided n demanded NHAI that unless they connect east n west sides of ayyankottai, NHAI should not make the subway at the village and they should do it in nagari itself..
Dono why the small problems like this arises in between big developmental projects..Praying that it should not be a big issue and delay the dream project like the incidences of Sethu Canal..

Madurai Mayor told that the actions will be taken for shifting of Omni buses from periyar to MIBT..Added that the terminus for Omni bus-stand will be created in a 5-acres site which is at present the 10 acre-lorry parking bay at MIBT..that too MC will only consider the creation of infrastructures in new Omni bus stand if the travels companies go as a group n demand it..
To reduce the congestion in Melur road, the entrance for central market complex will be in lake road..
:bash: for sense-less MC which created the Lorry-bay at the next plot of MIBT..
:bash: Another for only talking this shifting Omni-buses issue orally...nothing in practical..I dono why MC need the travel companies come as group n demand them the basic infrastructures at omni bus teminus-MIBT..It makes us sense their hunger for money..Get Last money-minded people..:bash:
Madurai gilli February 3rd, 2010, 08:44 PM Koyembedu Vs Mattuthavani
Though the CMBT is located in Koyembedu ,chennai Corporation calls it like CMBT
Why not MIBT located in Mattuthavani is not called as MIBT. Y MC is not making it as official one. all the bus boards are in the name MATTUTHAVANI.
Definitely ....I support this...MC should officially declare Matuthavani as MIBT n make the city buses display the same..

This article tells that the lack of ROB at TPK jn creates a head-ache to the public...It also stresses the need of creation of seperate TRAFFIC Control station at TPK..Officially, the news was released on it on last jan.13 and a new SI only appointed...still the station need an inspector,one-more SI, and 15 more people especially for TPK town..
When will the MC cares it and when will the ROB take its shape there ?
Madurai gilli February 3rd, 2010, 08:54 PM I think madurai will get suburban or metro once the IT parks get ready. if you take a look in IT sez layout, it is mentioned that the railway line will be extended untill MKU. so most probably madurai will witness suburban rails soon. lets hope so.
I think a long way to go for that..Atleast 10 years from now..:)

Madurai gilli February 3rd, 2010, 09:42 PM 1. TPK-Periar-Arapalayam-Samayanallur-Vadipatti. - OK Good route
2. Thirumangalam-Thirunagar-TPK-Avaniapuram-Theppakulam-Anna Nagar-Mattuthavani. - As already Tirumangalam - MIBT buses ply in regular routes, this may create confusions, so it may limit upto Anna nagar/to other new areas.
3. Thirumangalam-Periar-Arapalayam-Samayanallur - Nice route
4. Palanganatham-By Pass Rd-Fathima College-Sellur-Goripalayam-Court-Mattuthavani - Nice route
5. Arapalayam-Simmakkal-Anna bus stand-KK Nagar-Mattuthavani - already there..
6. Arapalayam-Goripalayam-Thapal Thanthi Nagar - Nice route
7. Arapalayam-Goripalayam-Pudhur-Surveyor Colony-Alagarkovil - Very good route
8. Anna Nagar - KK Nagar - Mattuthavani - Surveyor Colony - Kallandhiri - Alagarkovil(this will give direct connection bw anna nagar/mattuthavani with Alagarkovil). - Good route
Madurai gilli February 3rd, 2010, 09:51 PM 1. Arapalayam-By Pass rd-Periar/Crimebranch - Therkuvasal - Theppakulam - Anna nagar - Already there with simmakal ..so the same bus with dif. route will create confusions..
2. Arapalayam-Periar-TPK-Avaniapuram-Airport.. we have one new bus introduced in this route starting from periar.. route no is 5X. - Actually, 5X plan is really senseless..That bus was a big failiure and wondering how TNSTC manages to run the empty buses daily in this route..Arapalayam - Airport via periyar is already there..Good patronage - Instead they may take this route but should bypass Periyar and reach arapalayam via bye-pass rd.
3. Periar - Vasantha Nagar - By Pass road - Arapalayam - Sellur - Pudhur (help in getting pudhur connectivity) - why should they come in west and come back to east ? Instead we may try vadipatti - Pudur route or samayanalullur - azhagarkoil via sellur

Route 2 will not create any confusions because, we already have 49M(Thirumangalam to MIBT via theppakulam, Anna Nagar) and 48AI(via pudhur). This will create new connection with avaniapuram and near by areas with Thirumangalam, Kappalur and Tirunagar.
Route no 5: i dont think so a similar route exists.. we have buses from Arapalayam to anna nagar(77) and vandiyur(77A).. and they dont touch KK Nagar Area and lake view rd.. But this may not be useful like other roads..
Except route no 5 all others really needed..
dhandapanik February 4th, 2010, 06:19 AM 1. Arapalayam-By Pass rd-Periar/Crimebranch - Therkuvasal - Theppakulam - Anna nagar - Already there with simmakal ..so the same bus with dif. route will create confusions..

We have some routes similar to route no 1...
We can remove route no 2.. We can make that as Arapalayam-Periar-TPK-Nilayur ( No direct route to nilayur with arapalayam exists now)
i agree with you on route no 3.. That may be changed based on ur suggestions.. we can add
Vadipatti - pudhur via sellur/arapalayam is nice route
Samayanallur-Sellur-Thallakulam-Pudhur-Kallandhiri-Alagarkovil
Samayanallur-Sellur-Pudhur-Matthuthavani..
srinivas February 4th, 2010, 03:44 PM now the omni bus stand which is gonna get shifted to MIBT and lorry parking area near MIBT will crowd the MELUR road. MC should take steps to 4 lane melur road .

^^ Please Comment Guys..How far these routes are worth ?
Madurai gilli February 4th, 2010, 09:03 PM From Madurai South-Airport region...There are thousands of workers going to work and returning at mid-night by so-called mid-shift in many industries like TVS Srichakra, TVS-Firestones, TVS-Rubber,TVS-Sundaram,TVS-Cherry,Fenner India & so-many..Mostly all the TVS Industries have the Mid-shift which starts at 3:00 pm and ends at 11pm..
These people use the night services till SouthGate and they walked to their places initially..Seeing their strength, so many share-autos in night are now using the situation asking Rs.10-15/head at night for just 5 kms upto Avaniyapuram..So,It will be better if TNSTC-Mdu operates a night-service bus each-one from Periyar and MIBT to Avaniyapuram at night..
Madurai gilli February 4th, 2010, 09:24 PM Why can't the MC think of creating new city Bus-stands in its suburbs like
Avaniyapuram
Koodal Nagar
Tirunagar
Anna Nagar
Kappalur,
Vilangudi,
Thirupalai,
High-court etc.. so that the new-buses can be started from any of these places avoiding Periyar to reduce the congestion..
Chennai is having good city bus-stands well planned at :
Avadi
Ambattur
AnnaNagar
Adayar
Tiruvanmiyur
Poonamallee
Vadapalani
Tambaram
Velacherry
Saidapet etc.
Why can't such bus-stands created in Madurai ? MC should think in a distant vision..:ohno:
dhandapanik February 5th, 2010, 05:48 AM Cross Posting from CBE thread..
^^ I agree that TNSTC-madurai has better, more night service buses connected within the city for ex.. MIBT - Arapalayam, MIBT - Periyar, MIBT - Palanganatham...thats all..only 3 NS bus routes in Madurai...But it'll be better if TNSTC-Mdu looks for some more new routes like avaniyapuram etc which caters its resources to major industries..
I wonder why the NS buses are poorly planned in CBE..But the reason is private buses whereas Madurai and chennai keep the Govt buses only for City routes..Appreciable..:)
We have more night service routes..
Route No: N77B
MIBT - Arapalayam via Simmakkal, Goripalayam -> high frequency route
Route No: N4C
Arapalayam - Mattuthavani via periar, therku vasal, Anna nagar - 2 or 3 buses are used at nite
Route no: N48
Arapalayam - Thirumangalam via periar, TPK -> 2nd highest freq next to N77B
Arapalayam - Periar - 1 or buses are used..
I dont think so we have separate NS route in MIBT-Palanganatham.. i'll check for MIBT - Periar..
i read in news papers that they are going to introduce one bus in 4(Arapalayam to Viraganur ring road route)
they can try one MIBT - Thirumangalam night service too..

^^ Please Comment Guys..How far these routes are worth ?
1. Nice route.. this gives nice connection from Avaniapuram..
2. Gud route.. this can be extended till periar..
3. Really a gud route..
4. This will give gud connection for few areas with Thirumangalam..
5. Provides nice connection
6. First they should try connecting Usilampatti with Periar.. later they can try this route..
7. They can give a trial for this route.. if this worked out, they should try connecting other near by places like Dindigul, sivakasi with periar.
8. May not be feasible.. They already tried having Thirunagar -Melur(75D) route.. But it is stopped now..
9. Can be extended till pudhur via KK Nagar.
10. Is this route really needed? we have kariapatti connections with anna bus stand already..
12. A much needed route.
13. Route no 13 already exists till T. Kallupatti.. No is 48 AG.
14. We have one route as 5T.. MIBT-Thppur.. route no 14 can start from Anna nagar via therku vasal.
Madurai gilli February 5th, 2010, 08:15 PM 8. May not be feasible.. They already tried having Thirunagar -Melur(75D) route.. But it is stopped now..
No..I hope this route to be one of the most successful route if they try it..
Bcz this stretch is completely industrial and commercial corridor with a bulk of residential areas..I dono why they withdrawn the Tirunagar-Melur route...But I am 100% sure that Tirumangalam - Periyar - MIBT - Melur will work out to a greater level..Buses should be SLF with limited stops..
Is this route really needed? we have kariapatti connections with anna bus stand already..
I don think that Kariapatti has direct connection with GRH ...It has innumerate buses from Periyar and some moffusil buses from MIBT..This buses will help these region people to come to GRH directly without any trouble..
Madurai gilli February 5th, 2010, 08:25 PM A Circle-Bus can be made in this route so that TNSTC-Mdu find new routes and serve these areas people well..Instead of having routes like 5x : Periyar - TPK - AVP- Airport..they can try a circle bus in this route which will help a lot..
Tiruparankundram - Pasumalai - Pykara - Palanganatham - Byepass rd - Arapalayam - Periyar - SouthGate - Avaniyapuram - Tiruparankundram
* This route will really benefit the AVP,Villapuram,Pamban nagar people to get a direct connction to Pasumalai,Palanganatham,Byepasss rd..They can also get another added services to TPK,Arapalayam etc..
* This route will also give a direct connection to TPK with Arapalayam, Bethaniapuram,Arasaradi etc..
A lot-more benefits will come from this routes by utilising the less-used Byepass road, AVP-TPK road etc..

This Bridge is the exact Center of Madurai City leading to the Periyar City-Bus Terminus from where the city-buses ply to different parts & Highly-crowded Railway Junction...Outsiders will land in Madurai here only first..This place itself is in such a condition..Will totally spoil the image of MADURAI...:ohno:
I dono what the hell is for Madurai Corporation ? What work is there for them apart from maintaining the City ? Money-minded idiots..!
A powerful :bash: for the Contractor who built the bridge...Doubt arises on its life-time...
Madurai gilli February 10th, 2010, 07:37 PM Before 10 yrs..Madurai-a 52 sq.kms City wonders the state-people with more than 5 bus-stands each one in different directions of the city...But due to the efforts of PTR , Ring road and Integrated Bus terminus was created for Madurai and All the Moffusil bus-stands except Arapalayam were shifted to MIBT..
Palanganatham Moffusil Bus-stand complex in Madurai South was the one among them from where the southern bound moffusil buses took off...Anna Bus stand complex was utilised for the expansion of GRH..But the Palanganatham Bus-stand complex is still remaining a vacant land in several acres at the heart of the City today..It will be better if MC/some other Govt body can utilise the area to develop their Govt offices etc., For ex.. Madurai Passport Office is now running in a rental building that struggles with the demand for space daily..
So, Madurai Passport Office can be shifted to Palanganatham where a bulk of lands are availiable to create a well-amenited building with all the needed infrastructures and parking area..This will help the City's growth in that area also..Hope MC will consider this and make use of Palanganatham busstand complex..

:bash: for the traffic authorities of Madurai for permitting these things..They can inspect the places where all the lorries are hiding inside the city and make a ride over there to avoid these things..then only they can get control of the lorries in Madurai...Really LORRIES are the main head-ache for Madurai...Hope MC will soon take the action on this regulation.

This is my petition posted there recently :
Respected Sir,
I congratulate you first for your efforts taken for the industrialisation of Madurai..
Sir, You promised the Rs.48,000 Crs Aero-Park to Come-up in Madurai..But I found in internet that an aeropark is planned in Chennai by TN Govt & CII-chennai..I fear that the dream project escapes from Madurai..Bcz this single project has a great ability to industrialise not only Madurai, the whole southern Tamilnadu in an overnight if it comes true..So, Kindly I request you to give more importance to bring-in the aero-park project to Madurai sir that can lift our city's image internationally..
Also I request you to take action on redefining the Madurai Corporation City limit from present 52 sq.kms to the proposed 130 sq.kms by merging the nearby places in all directions so that the city infrastructure can well be planned for the expediting industrialisation in this region..
Please Consider the million lives of Madurai youths like me who settled in other cities like chennai bcz of unemployment...Kindly,I request you to focus on the same and prevent our people migrating to other developing cities like Coimbatore,Chennai etc.. by creating the oppurtunities..
MADURAI's FUTURE lies in YOUR HANDS sir...
Once again...Hats Off for your powerful actions to develop MADURAI Sir..

Our corporation is doing nonsense when it comes to removing and building dividers. The dividers they have built in K.K Nagar and Anna Nagar roads are really attrocious. The width of the divider is like 3+ feet which has reduced the width of the road. At the same time they are removing dividers at many other places.

1. To make TPK as Hub for city Buses in Madurai South and make many-more new connections from TPK to other parts of the city.
2. Need of Circle Bus TPK - TPK...(Earlier we discussed this in our forum)
3. As TPK being a hot tourist spot, there are large no. of Pilgrim tourists going from TPK to other pilgrim centers in the city like Pondy Koil,Azhagar Koil,Madapuram,Surya Nagar,Thirumoghur etc., So TPK needs direct connection to all these temple-towns.
4. Need to utilise the TPK - MKU road via thenpalanji (We discussed it here)

MADURAI: Stagnant sewage in the Vandiyur channel due to lack of proper disposal system opposite Mattuthavani Integrated Bus Stand is posing a serious health hazard for hundreds of residents in the area and thousands of people who use the bus stand every day. :bash:
Besides emanating a foul odour, the sewage stagnating for about 300 metres along the Madurai-Melur highway has become a fertile breeding ground for mosquitoes.
This stretch of channel is definitely an eyesore for Madurai as any outsider arriving at the Mattuthavani bus stand would not miss the muck if he walks along the highway, either to eat at one of the many restaurants/eateries or to stay in the lodges in the vicinity.
“At least 5,000 customers come to the hotels every day. And the wastewater they use for washing hand is let into the channel,” says K.L. Kumar, president of Madurai District Hotels’ Association, who also runs a hotel here.
Stating that the commercial establishments had paid the underground deposits in 2003 itself, he said that despite many representations and reminders to the Corporation officials to provide proper underground drainage facility, nothing had materialised for seven years. “We have got the Dangerous and Offensive (Trade) license from the Corporation and pay all taxes. But, we have not got this basic facility. We are forced to let the sewage into the drainage channel as there is no other means,” Mr. Kumar says.
On the mosquito menace, he said that the customers as well as workers who remained at the place day and night had to put up with mosquito bites. “Almost all our workers were affected by chikungunya recently,” he said.
Groundwater too
The channel washes off the collected sewage only when there is flood. The stagnation of filth on the channel and the nearby open areas over the years has also polluted groundwater, residents complain. “People are complaining of foul odour in the groundwater in some places,” Mr. Kumar says.
Corporation Chief Engineer K. Sakthivel says that except for the Press Colony, the entire area in Mattuthavani, including the bus stand, did not have underground drainage network. “We have included these areas in the next phase of underground drainage work planned for the left-out areas in the city,” he said. The work is expected to be completed by March next year.
The residents of Press Colony feel that till such time the area gets proper drainage, the local body should take steps to at least to prevent mosquito breeding.

u need to make the overhead cables to go below earth. do u expect MC ll do it ? but anyway tat ll be good . a nice idea.....
Madurai gilli February 20th, 2010, 08:43 PM ^^ Ye..MC has already planned and the implementation already started in areas around the Temple-circle..It has plans to do it all over the city..
dhandapanik February 22nd, 2010, 09:00 AM Few changes happened in the city bus routes..
Initially madurai had many different types of city bus routes in madurai.. following are few of them..
Normal service - Stops at all places..
Ore kattanam bus - Mainly in circle services.. rates: 3, 3.5, 4.. Now all these are replaced with deluxe services..
ALSS - Common stops and Skips few stops where BLSS will stop
BLSS - Common stops and Skips few stops where ALSS will stop
City Express - Very limited stops.. this was very useful.. in Periar - Thirumangalam route, it stops were at Periar, Palanganatham, TPK, Thirunagar 2 and 3, Koothiyarkundu and thirumangalam
After the introduction of deluxe services and new city express services(blue and yellow lines, only the charge is city express charge) all are changed.
Now they charge City express charge and deluxe charges but stops at all places.. But still ALSS and BLSS names where there..
some of the routes which had are
A14 - Thirunagar - Anna Nagar
B15 - Thirunagar - Anna nagar
A5 - TPK - Anna Nagar
B5 - TPK - Anna nagar
A75, B75 -> in Periar - Melur
A48P and B48P - Thirumangalam - Thapal thanthi nagar
Similary we had A22A, 22, B22, A22 etc.,
Now all these A and B prefix are removed.
Thirunagar - Anna nagar service will be route no 14
75 and 48P remains same..
A22A -> 22A
B22, A22 -> 22
major change is in TPK-Anna nagar route.. since we have one more service with route no 5(Thirunagar - Mattuthavani), A5 and B5 are renamed as 5AN(AN-refer to Anna nagar)
srinivas February 22nd, 2010, 09:58 AM the route connecting thirunagar maatuthaavani is called 14 B . if the suffix is removed wont it confuse with anna nagar thirunagar route ?
dhandapanik February 22nd, 2010, 11:25 AM the route connecting thirunagar maatuthaavani is called 14 B . if the suffix is removed wont it confuse with anna nagar thirunagar route ?
Srini,
from thirunagar we have one more route "5". it uses the same route as 48Y. 14B is different.. Whenever u travel from thirunagar to mattuthavani and viceversa dont use this route.. We use to call this as "Oor Suthi perundhu" and cost also 1 rs higher than 48Y/5.
we have 2 routes in 5. one bus will go inside thirunagar till 8th stop. the other will stop in 3rd stop itseld.
Initially we used to have confusion when B14 was there.. now it is changed to 14B
Route details:
14B - Thirunagar(8th stop) - TPK(inside)-Palanganatham - Therkuvasal - Nelpettai - GH - Anna Nilayam - Apollo - KK Nagar - Poo market - Mattuthavani
Charge till thirunagar 3rd stop is 11 rs. will take atleast 1 hr 15 min + u might need to stand in TPK gate..
5 - Thirunagar(8th stop / 3rd stop) - TPK(by pass) - Palanganatham - Periar - Simmakkal - Goripalayam - Thallakulam - Court - Poo Market - Mattuthavani ---> this route is very similar to 48Y route
Charge till thirunagar 3rd stop is 10 rs. max time is between 45 min to 1 hr
You can see more route details in my share.

dhandapanik February 24th, 2010, 07:16 AM what abt the 300 new SLF Buses bought under JNNURM ?
Gilli, i think around 50 buses arrived and they are yet to get inaugurated. they are standing idle inside TNSTC HO and Pasumalai workshop. I donno for whom they are waiting for.

Except TNSTC - MDU, new buses were inaugurated in all divisions.. MTC, VPM, Kumbakonam, CBE, SLM and last SETC.
Saw some new moffusil buses from TNSTC-MDU. Without formal inauguration they are put into operation now.. Spotted these buses in Madurai.
Some of the reg nos which i noticed..
From DGL region:
TN 57 N 1770
From MDU region:
TN58 N 1596 -> Sipcot depot.. not sure in which route it is running..
From Virdhunagar:
TN67 N 613 - Kovilpatti - MDU - Trichy
TN67 N 617
TN67 N 621 -> Rasapalayam to Tirupur
TN67 N 622 -> Kovilpatti - MDU - CBE

This report tells that the roads inside the Madurai City and its urnan area are going to be laid in international standards..The surveys had been completed and the works are going to kick-off in another 6 months..They tell that a Cement Box will be left in each road at ceertain distances through which if any under-earth works have to be completed and any dept should not dig the roads once the project is over for another 5 years..
MC also plans to store the water permanently in Meenakshi temple tank hereafter..

I am not sure whether the MC is talking about the newly planned roads like elevated highways etc., to decongest the traffic in the city..
Anyway, Once the proposed Road Improvement scheme is done for Madurai, then the city will get relief from this Congestion then..Hope for the Best soon..

JnNURM funds we cant expect soon, and i remember some articles stating that jnnurm funds are already over and there is no increased allocation in this budget. With no. of mission cities going to increase, its bit difficult to get the good sum at right time unless the corporation is proactive.
Anyhow i hope TURIP funds is utilized properly by MC

BC / Gilli,
Most of the roads in madurai are like this only. try to travel in Samayanallur - Fathimacollege - By Pass road - Palanganatham - TPK road stretch in a bike and see how much it is difficult to use these roads.. :(
They also removed the center median in few places. This is a bad decision.

Gilli,
i think they are waiting for the dates. I saw few more Marcopolos parked in HO depot yesterday.
They are converting some old SLF city buses to moffusil buses which are in gud condition. You can see the pic which i uploaded already.
All the JNNURM buses will be charged with existing SLF fares. MDU already has got around 150 Airbuses. So fares will not be a problem.
150 SLF +300 JNNURM SLF, Madurai cannot withstand such a huge hike. If this happens then madurai will have only SLF buses.

MADURAI: The railways has once again postponed the closure of the manned level-crossing at Palanganatham for construction of subway/road over-bridge work.
This time the request for postponement has come from the Corporation which has sought time till April 10 to complete road laying work on the alternative route to be used on closure of the gate.
Jaihindpuram Road, Sundarajapuram Road and the service roads under the rail over-bridge at Andalpuram would be re-laid to ensure smooth flow of road traffic. The work has begun, Corporation Chief Engineer K. Sakthivel said.
The Railways had to postpone the closure on an earlier occasion after a section of city residents feared that students appearing for public examinations would face hardship if get stuck in the peak hour traffic.

Instead, they have to proceed further on the Alagar Koil Road, take a left turn on the Ghokale Road and join the Alagar Koil Road through the adjoining by-lane stretch.
Vehicles coming from Gandhi Museum Road shall not take right turn to join Alagar Koil Road. They have to compulsorily take only left turn and join the Alagar koil Road.
Similarly, vehicles coming from Thalavai Agraharam shall compulsorily take left turn on the Vakkil New Street, take a right turn on the adjoining by lane and join Simakkal Road. The short stretch of Old Chokkanathar Temple would be closed for traffic, police said.
Keeping in mind the growing number of vehicles, the changes have been introduced and depending on the public response, it would be implemented after examining the feedback, police said.
Motorists' coming from Goripalayam proceeding towards Thangaraj Salai or K.K. Nagar may use the Panagal Road (Government Rajaji Hospital Road) stretch as an alternative instead of using the Gandhi Museum Road, a police officer suggested.
However, motorists' opined that the police are only shifting the bottleneck from Tamukkam intersection to another point.
Unless adequate personnel were posted, it will only add up to the chaos.

ADDING TO CHAOS:Vehicles parked in a haphazard fashion in front of a shopping mall in the city.
It was reported in a section of the media that the official car of the Commissioner of Police P. Balasubramanian was caught in a traffic jam in Madurai on Thursday. If it can happen to a police chief, one can guess the travails thousands of motorists undergo in the city every day.
Though the police attribute traffic jams to rise in number of vehicles and absence of wide roads and flyovers, the fact is clear that traffic management leaves a lot to be desired, city residents feel.
Recently the traffic police brought some changes near Tamukkam Ground intersection on Alagarkoil Road only to withdraw them two days later in haste.
At a time when traffic police personnel need to be posted on many intersections in suburbs such as Gomathipuram, Athikulam, B.B. Kulam and Narayanapuram, it is baffling to see a large number of policemen around Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple — an area with restricted entry for vehicles.
Haphazard parking of vehicles in front of departmental stores and shopping malls also adds to chaos on city roads. These facilities come up without providing adequate space for the quantum of vehicles they would attract, say residents. An executive of a shopping mall says parking space meant for vehicles is being used for other purposes such as public toilets.
Though K.K. Nagar Main Road is known more as “80-feet road” through the years, it is not so now. Encroachments on either side and a broad median has resulted in shrinkage of carriage space. There is not enough space at some points on this road for vehicles to take a ‘U' turn.

raheja April 14th, 2010, 02:56 AM New buses hit city roads at long last
MADURAI: Over 100 new deluxe buses with low platforms have hit the city roads since Tuesday, according to officials in the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) Madurai Division, without any gala function.
Though close to 175 new buses reached the TNSTC depot here three months back, they remained off the roads. Some of the opposition parties had raised questions over non-commissioning of these buses. Recently, for want of space in the depot here, many buses were sent to be parked in depots in neighbouring districts.
Under these circumstances, a TNSTC official told ‘The Hindu' that following an oral directive, buses which were parked in the TNSTC depot here commenced operations on different routes in the city.
All the existing buses replaced by the new ones would be sent in a phased manner for operations in neighbouring Dindigul and Virudhunagar.
The break-up of buses in the Madurai division is: low-platform buses 176; city express 215; LSS 225; flat fare buses105; and ordinary buses 20.
Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA N. Nanmaran has appealed to the authorities to operate more ordinary services.
Diesel consumption
Meanwhile, a source in the TNSTC technical and maintenance wing said that the buses that were withdrawn from the city routes consumed more diesel per litre than those operated on the mofussil stretches due to technical factors. Currently, a bus plying on a mofussil route gave a mileage of 5.25 km per litre while city buses gave 4.53 km. At a time when the officials are campaigning on fuel saving, the mofussil buses are likely to consume higher amount of fuel, it is said.

srinivas April 18th, 2010, 04:56 PM MADURAI: Tamil Nadu government has allocated Rs 1,000 crore for a project envisaging laying of roads of international standard in 11 cities, including Madurai.
Discussions were taking place at various levels to build the roads which would have good lighting facility, footpath, and sign boards, an official release said here today.
A meeting chaired by Tamil Nadu urban finance and infrastructure development corporation advisor M S Srinivasan was held here yesterday to discuss about the proposed project.
Srinivasan said it had been proposed to build 750 km of roads in Madurai. Laying of water pipes and underground cables would be taken up in advance to ensure that there was no digging of the roads for at least five years after the completion of the project.
The roads, the construction of which would begin in another one year, would be maintained by the private agencies for five years.

Hi Thillai selvan,
1. These buses *cannot* be used in any other city other than MDU. They have to be registered in MDU only. So, TNSTC may transfer the older SLFs to other cities especially Nellai. Thats probably what the Transport minister meant by saying 200 SLFs for the division.
2. Sivagangai and Ramanathapuram are not part of MDU division but KMU division.
Cheers,
Raj

Hope new SLFs are introduced in Nellai, Tuticorin and Nagercoil. In fact, I would prefer new normal fleet for Nellai and not-so-old SLFs moved from MDU so that there will be a good balance of ordinary + SLFs in Nellai. The buses that are already running in Nellai are old buses used by other regions - TN-23 is Vellore. Hope it changes very soon.

dhandapanik April 25th, 2010, 03:25 PM is there any provision to have digital boards ?
Provisions are there. They will come with digital boards only. I think TNSTC officials removed it. They might load the route info and place it again. I donno what these officials where doing for the past 3 months. JNNURMs started arriving from december/January. No stickering works related to route(via) details. These digital boards confusing the people.
ex:
Thirunagar - Mattuthavani bus displays "Mattuthavani-Thirunagar via Court, Simmakkal, Periar, Pasumalai" (all names in Tamil) alone. So many place names went off. Circle services are worst hit in these.
"Mattuthavani-Mattuthavani via pudhur, Simmakkal, Periar, Theppakulam" alone is coming. How people will know the place details? :( They need to display the atleast minimum place details. The route details should be there in the side mirrors(similar to old SLFs)

Srinivas,
it is going to rajapalayam. TNSTC-MDU started using its JNNURM fleet for intercity operations. They are running the following routes.
Madurai - Rajapalayam
Madurai - Palani -> i have used this bus. I think the bus wasa given to madurai depot of Dindugal region. around 2 to 3 JNNURM fleets was given.
Madurai - Dindugal
Madurai - Theni
Madurai - Periakulam
Madurai - Coimbatore -> both Marcopolo and AL SLFs.

BC,
we cannot travel such a long distance in these SLFs. i used one JNNURM AL SLF of TNSTC-MDU which was alloted to palani depot in madurai-palani route. the travel was really horrible. We cannot sit in that seat for more than 2 hrs at nite. I got fed up. from next time i'll avoid these JNNURM SLF for long distance travel. especially during nite time.
New marcopolos arrived at madurai. I saw one blue marcopolo having the designs very much similar to blue line AL SLF. All the AL SLF running in madurai are built by Irizar TVS. i havent seen even a single SLF built by G.S/Prakash/Veera. We got those in CBE and Chennai

C9 - TPK to TPK via pasumalai, palanganatham, Periar, avaniapuram

Saw one marcopolo having a board with the route C18. Couldnt able to figure the exact route detail.

Wonderful. 32UM, 3D,3K are new routes. I am happy to say that I am seeing new routes in Madurai for past 1 year. Earlier for everything people have to go to Periar bus stand for changing the bus,now we are seeing more (new)direct routes.Things are changing now. I also feel few buses to Mattuthavani should be extended to othakadai or Narasingham.

Already 700 in periar - mattuthavani is got some extended routes. In the morning times it used to start from vasantha nagar. And some buses got extended upto high court also.
initially only one 27 series was there(27A alone), now lot buses in this series got added. saw one 77TT running between mattuthavani and thuvariman.
dhandapanik May 18th, 2010, 05:03 PM Finally Alagarkovil got is Arapalayam connectivity too..
i saw one SLF in route 44AA - Arapalayam to Alagarkovil via simmakkal, Goripalayam, Pudhur, Kadachanendhal with digital board.
We need one more bus connecting Alagarkovil with Mattuthavani or they can start a Alagarkovil - Annanagar bus via mattuthavani
Madurai gilli May 18th, 2010, 05:26 PM ^^ Yes .. New routes look good..!
Also Avaniyapuram wants the direct connectivity to Azhagar-koil because that stretch has not even a single-bus service after Pudhur..
Also Avaniyapuram has not even having a single service in New natham road stretch..So, they can try services like Avaniyapuram - Thiruppalai (or) Avaniyapuram - Alanganallur etc.

We can expect these routes soon. lets wait and see.. TNSTC-MDU is doing a great job with respect to introduction of new services. let us see how it goes.
dhandapanik May 20th, 2010, 05:40 AM Few marcopolos are fitted with digital boards. Some background work is being done by TNSTC-MDU guys..
Initially only "Nagar" depot buses had the depot names marked in the buses, Then Thiruparankundram, Ponmeni, Ellisnagar, Thirumangalam, Pudhur depots followed to mark their depot names. Still few buses are there without depot names.
Now the marcopolos belonging to "Nagar" depot got digital boards. I saw 3 such buses in the routes 75, 71, 44D. Other will follow soon.... Took some pics.. will post it soon.
Madurai gilli May 22nd, 2010, 08:30 PM My Personal worry is :
The route 10R having so-many buses from Periar to Mandela Nagar is not so-effective so-far..Most of the time, about 90% of its services are going freely giving a huge loss..
This can be experimented by extending the routes like :
1.Mandela Nagar to Arapalayam via Periar
2.Mandela Nagar to MKU via Periar
3.Mandela Nagar to Aanayur/Koodal Nagar etc..
Madurai gilli May 22nd, 2010, 08:34 PM The City buses in Madurai are not provided the proper display boards....I got irritated recently on seeing the new JNNURM buses also having the Ink-Written Paper sticked improperly as display board...
This issue should be taken seriously and the display board system should be followed on the lines of Chennai city buses..It may even be got from Private partners..

shyamnath May 25th, 2010, 11:09 AM Chennai, May 24: People travelling in Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses will soon be able to view their favourite songs, movies and news programmes through digital televisions to be installed in 3,000 buses plying in the city and suburbs.
According to a senior MTC official, the corporation has called for tenders to install digital televisions in buses.
He said the corporation had decided to install the TVs after a similar initiative was well accepted by the people travelling by buses of the Villupuram Tamil Nadu State transport Corporation and State Express Transport Corporation.
“In MTC buses the television will be operated on Build, Own Operate and Manage (BOOM) concept and the programmes would be fed through the pen drive, chip or other similar modes,” he said.
“The revenue will be through royalty, which will be fixed only by the tender process.”
A senior official in the transport department told Deccan Chronicle that digital TVs would also be installed in buses in four districts — Madurai, Salem, Tiruchy and Coimbatore.
“The present system can be upgraded to a centralised mode once 3G and other concepts come into place,” he said.
“This would enable us to control the programmes sitting at the central office,” he noted.

maduraithala May 29th, 2010, 06:36 PM The new model low-floor buses introduced recently by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has been welcomed by many in Madurai.
In an interaction between consumer forum representatives and TNSTC officials here recently, TNSTC General Manager A. Venkatachalam listed out the various measures taken to streamline bus services, bus stops and vehicle maintenance.
The consumer foras lauded the introduction of low-floor buses as it was easy to get in and out of the vehicles, especially for old people.
Need for more barricades
The efforts to provide barricades at bus stops had helped people to board buses with ease besides facilitating regulation of traffic to a great extent by preventing piling up of buses at bus stops in an haphazard manner.
Hence, barricades must be placed in major bus stops all over the city. Traffic police must also be invited in the future interaction meetings, they said.
Problems related to issuance of bus pass, encroachment of bus stops by share autorickshaws and bus stop shelters by vendors, peak hour traffic congestion, row between the crew and public also came up for discussion.
The officials said that if genuine grievances were brought to their notice, they would be redressed. The public had the responsibility to keep the buses clean and hence pasting of posters should be avoided, the officials said.
Deputy Manager (Commercial) T.S. Vincent, Divisional Manager (East) A. Venkatachalam, Deputy Manager (Technical) P. Nagendran, Consumer forum members S. Angusami, A. Michael Arputharaj, J.S. Arthur, AL. Chidambaram, A. Ravindran, C. Bagyalakshmi and self-help group coordinator R. Kasturi participated in the meeting, a TNSTC press release issued here said.

maduraithala May 29th, 2010, 06:50 PM In a bid to provide more carriage space on busy roads such as Vakkil New Street, East Veli Street, South Masi Street, Simakkal stretch of North Veli Street, and Tamil Sangam Road, the police have decided to ban parking on both sides of these roads.
Wreckers would be stationed at vantage points to tow away erring vehicles, said Commissioner of Police P. Balasubramanian. In the wake of vehicle movement having turned chaotic on many stretches in the city, motorists have represented to the police to take action against erring drivers.
Tamil Sangam Road
For instance, those visiting a popular restaurant on Tamil Sangam Road park their vehicles along the road. During peak hours, regulating the traffic becomes a Herculean task. With just a single policeman, traffic flow goes for a spin and it is a free-for-all situation.
At least, it takes 20 to 30 minutes to cross this artificial bottleneck on Tamil Sangam Road during “peak hours of the restaurateurs,” according to regular users of this stretch.
Mr. Balasubramanian said that he had instructed his officers to identify such places and deploy more personnel during such periods.
Two days ago, an ambulance from Theni, sandwiched in a traffic jam, found it difficult to negotiate the mess near the rail over-bridge near Madura Coats, despite the presence of the policeman, a shopkeeper said.
As a first step, police said that they have instructed the restaurants and shopping complexes to depute security guards to regulate parking in front of their premises so as to avoid blocking of other vehicles. Some commercial establishments have agreed to have valet parking facility for their customers, police added. The wreckers, which are being used to lift and tow vehicles parked on narrow lanes, would be positioned near restaurants and other public places where motorists tend to leave their vehicles for a long time.
Mr. Balasubramanian assured more policing on all Masi, Marret and Veli streets, Periyar bus stand area and Kalavasal intersection during peak hours.
Shopkeepers on Tamil Sangam Road said that right in front of the traffic police, motorists parked their vehicles on “no parking” zones. When this was pointed out to the Commissioner, he assured to take stern action and appealed to the drivers not to park on both sides of the roads in the city.

maduraithala May 31st, 2010, 09:02 PM Despite appeals from District Collector C. Kamaraj and the TNSTC (Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation) authorities not to paste posters on the newly introduced low-floor buses in the city, some DMK political party functionaries seem to have ignored the call.
Posters – big and small – were pasted on many new buses plying on different stretches in the city on Sunday.
Senior officials in the State Transport Corporation said that the paint is expensive that during the process of removing the posters at the maintenance section, the colour of the paint starts fading and gets washed away leaving patches.
Any attempt to tinker or provide a touch up would change the appearance of the bus body. The original finish of the colour cannot be matched locally and within a year, the buses look quite old and shabby, they added.
Another technician said that the solution used to paste the posters would not come off without using sufficient water. Every day posters such as condoning death of a friend or relative, welcoming leaders visiting to inaugurate hotels, shops or restaurants, condemning the government by some organisations were pasted on the buses. Using water and soap solutions to remove them would change the colour. “In many vehicles, the new look had already started giving a dull appearance,” he added.
At a recent press conference, Mr. Kamaraj appealed to the public to use the TNSTC buses and not misuse by pasting posters or pelting stones. Prior to this, the TNSTC authorities also pointed out the features of the buses and urged the public to cooperate in upkeep of the vehicles in a press release.
When contacted, a DMK office-bearer, not wishing to be quoted, said that Union Minister M.K. Alagiri does not endorse or encourage such acts. “Some cadres bring disrepute to the party,” he admitted. Consumer forum representatives condemned those (political parties or other outfits) pasting posters or pelting stones on the TNSTC buses.
When the government spent so much money on launch of state-of-the-art buses, such misuse should not be encouraged and they expected the Collector to take stern action as per the law.:bash::bash:

Madurai gilli June 9th, 2010, 06:19 PM TNSTC-Madurai is now-a-days experimenting so-many buses especially to remote villages...Kudos to its effort..
I saw so many new services in South like 76-Thoduvilanpatti , MIBT-Koodakovil etc..
C9, C10 TPK - TPK via Periar, Avaniapuram is a good route and it's seeing good patronage..Thanks for establishing this route because I recommended this route in the forum few months back..I feel It'll see still more patronage if it connects the Arapalayam bus terminus too..So,TNSTC-Mdu can try like :
TPK - Palanganatham - Jeyam theater - TNSTC/RTO - NAIHA - Kalavasal - Guru theater - Arapalayam - Bethaniyapuram - Solamalai theater - Maapalayam - Periyar - South Gate - Avaniyapuram - TSM - TPK
and reverse route ..

I mentioned about C9 and C10 already here. The route which you mentioned is bit circulous. Instead they can split this and run a separate circle service route connecting avaniapuram with arapalayam.
Some of the new routes which i saw are 48AX(Periar-T.Kallupati), 48ZA, 48ZS, 13B, 10H(Not sure its new route or not).
I saw one peculiar route today, connecting two cash cow routes for TNSTC-MDU. It is the route 48+44. :) Saw an old SLF having routes names as Alagarkovil-Pudhur-Periar-Palanganatham-Poonga-Thirunagar-Thirumangalam in the side mirrors.. Donno what number they will give for this route. :D
whether they will use 44 or 48 prefix? let me watch out that bus for sometime and update it.
Madurai gilli June 9th, 2010, 06:59 PM ^^ C9,C10 needs Arapalayam connectivity because Residents from Avaniyapuram,Pambansamy nagar etc doesn't have direct bus service to bye-pass road..They need to change 2 buses..Similarly, Residents from Bethaniyapuram, Maapalayam doesn't have direct connctivity with TPK..So, TNSTC can consider this route and I feel it's not that much circulous..
Again, Thanks for your info on 44+48 new route...I've been stressing this route since we start this seperate citybuses forum..Sure, It's going to be a huge-hit and a Heavy Cash-flow route for TNSTC..
I am also expecting routes like Tirumangalam - Melur
or Tirunagar - Melur...
Madurai gilli June 9th, 2010, 07:03 PM I also saw the Periar - T.Kallupatti bus and It's giving good patronage..
Did you see 10H ? It's new route I think bcz I didn't hear it before..Can you remember which place it connects friend ?

We cant expect Thirumangaram - Melur route, because the distance is so high and this cannot be operated as City bus route(limit being 39 KM).
Thirumangalam/Tirunagar/TPK already has Bethaniapuram/guru theater connectivity with the route 48AD. The frequency of this particular route is increased like anything.
We had 75D(Melur-Thirunagar) and 44T(TPK-AlagarKovil) routes introduced from the first batch of SLFs before 2 yrs. Both these routes were discontinued now. TNSTC-MDU need to reintroduce these 2 routes. Also we need one Thirumangalam-Tirunagar-Avaniapuram-Annanagar bus. This will help Tirunagar and near by areas getting connected with Avaniapuram
thillai_selvan June 10th, 2010, 08:14 AM In chennai we are having city routes like Highcourt to Chengalpet Nearly 55Kms, T.Nagar to Kanchipuram etc., as city bus service. Why can't we have such long routes in Madurai.?

I saw some where near Pasumalai. It starts from TPK. The same bus is used for operating C10.
For T.kallupatti we have 2 routes. 48AG and 48AX. AX was introduced recently.
dhandapanik June 10th, 2010, 08:22 AM In chennai we are having city routes like Highcourt to Chengalpet Nearly 55Kms, T.Nagar to Kanchipuram etc., as city bus service. Why can't we have such long routes in Madurai.?
Thillai both these Thirumangalam-Periar-Melur is not required in my point of view. The reason is both these routes has more buses than any other routes in madurai. Let them continue the same. Instead they can introduce Thirumangalam-Othakadai, Thirunagar-Melur or TPK-Melur etc.,
Madurai gilli June 10th, 2010, 02:40 PM ^^ I too feel the same friend..! My idea is it's better to create a hub in HIGH COURT and operate buses from there...So it can be Tirumangalam - High Court, Avaniapuram - High Court etc..
Your idea of Tirumangalam - Tirunagar - TPK - Avaniapuram - Anna Nagar is nice...Remember I too told the same route when we discussed new possible routes during the start of this thread..
Madurai gilli June 10th, 2010, 02:43 PM I remember now...10H is not the new service and It's old one since my school-days..Route is Periar - Avaniapuram - TPK. But I feel this service is not needed now as replaced by C9/C10.
Madurai gilli June 10th, 2010, 02:52 PM In chennai we are having city routes like Highcourt to Chengalpet Nearly 55Kms, T.Nagar to Kanchipuram etc., as city bus service. Why can't we have such long routes in Madurai.?
Thillai...We can't compare Madurai with Chennai bcz Chennai is a Metropolitan..There, If T.Nagar - Kanchipuram bus is operated means...that stretch is full of Schools,Colleges,Major Industries,SIPCOT,SIDCO,SEZ etc.. So, It's getting high patronage atleast during the Peak hours..
In Madurai, We cannot try longer services like this..The only Possible route in Madurai is Tirumangalam - Periar - Melur which will give good patronage..
Otherwise If we try routes like Periar - Virudhunagar , Periar - VaigaiDam, Periar - Sivaganga ...Those stretch has nothing significant spots to give a marked patronage...Also , There are Plenty of Buses plying between these spots every 5-10 mins..They're coming in very short time...As a Local City bus, above mentioned services should have some stops and it'll take much time to reach so people won't prefer..
We need such services like in Chennai but now now ...Once the stretches flooded with residential, industrial, commercial, educational complexes..For that it'll take atleast 2years...
So, Now Periar - Usilai, Periar - Natham,Periar - T.Kallupatti is more than enough and good routes...I don't know whether Periar - Usilai is giving good patronage because that stretch have so many moffusil connections with Arapalayam..

Periar-Usilai should be having some good patronage. Before this service ppl have to travel to arapalayam or get down at kalavasal junction to come inside the city.
They can start Periar - Nilakottai.. Periar - Virudhunagar will create problems. PVT buses might get stay order because more PVT buses are operated in this route.
First we need one more depot for catering city bus services in madurai. They can create somewhere near Othakadai. I saw lot of buses standing outside in TPK, Nagar and other depots. This will create problems for maintaining the buses.

Instead of creating one more at high court, we can do it in Othakadai. That will help more people.
Need some circular services connectiing mattuthavani too. Mattuthavani-Pudhur-MG nagar-Anaiyur-Koodalnagar-Arapalayam-Simmakkal-Court-Mattuthavani. This will help people of MG nagar area and surroundings to reach 2 main moffusil bus stands.
Madurai gilli June 10th, 2010, 03:58 PM Yes we need Periar - Nilakottai service..
dhandapanik June 11th, 2010, 07:37 AM Saw one more new route today. 4HA near therku vasal. I think they add 4H and 4A to form this new route. :D why can they give unique numbers instead of just keep on adding as series?
only 3 digit route present in madurai is 700(Periar-Mattuthavani).
Maduraikarainga June 16th, 2010, 06:44 PM One of my friend told me that he saw a VOLVO bus running between Madurai(Arapalayam) to Coimbatorem.

It would be great if MDU division operates such VOLVO bus between Mattuthavani to Thirumangalam.

dhandapanik August 2nd, 2010, 06:28 AM That's a good idea to regulate the buses... :)
In my point of view its not a big idea. People are finding it difficult to get the right buses now. Also unnecessary traffic jam is also been created because of parking buses like this. It will take some time to get regularized.
Railway station stop which was there in west veli st(opposite to Mangammal chatram) is shifted inside the Railway station. All the buses going towards Simmakkal need to go inside railway station. This is really a gud idea. It reduces the congestion in west veli street road. Some of the Bus route numbers mentioned in the bus stop is not correct. They could have asked me..

As far as Periyar is concerned...There will be a relief only if they join all the 3 bus-stands there and regulate the oneways..A master-plan is there for several years and I dono what is being an obstacle for this plan...!
