1. Soul (Juniper)
The Iconic Soul building due for completion mid-2011. The $850 million project, being built by Melbourne's Grocon company, is located at the mouth of Cavill Mall. A near-completed $120 million retail precinct has rejuvenated Surfers Paradise.
2. Hilton (Brookfield Multiplex)
The twin-tower project was savaged by Brookfield Multiplex after the downfall of embattled developer Jim Raptis. The $700 million project includes a unique mix of five-star hotel and apartment suites. The Boulevard Tower comprises of 186 apartments and is due for completion late this year. The Orchid Tower comprises of 224 apartments and will be finished late 2011.
3. Islander Resort (Tom Tate)
Mayoral candidate Tom Tage has flagged big plans to upgrade the ageing Islander Resort in the heart of Surfers Paradise. The facelift is expected to be made official later this year, when Mr Tate lodges a development application with the council.
4. Iluka (Raptis Group Receivers)
The 1970's era, 17-storey toweris a Gold Coast institution. Jim Raptis was handed approval in 2008 to build a slick 57-storey "twisted shell" tower. The project included 351 apartments and would have replaced the 17-storey holiday resort. Brookfield Multiplex eyeing off the site.
5. Elston Azzura Hotel and Resort (Azzura Group)
Developer Robert Badalotti recently finished his $130 million, 18-level project. The tower is located on a 3200sqm site that fronts Surfers Paradise Boulevard, opposite the Q1 building. It incorporates a retail component at the base of the apartment complex.
6. Reve on River Terrace (GC Developments)
New Korean buyers making variations on 29-level apartment tower and four terrace villas plan approved by the council. Total of 197 one, two, and three bedroom units and two penthouses. The $170 million project located on 5028sqm site, was purchased by Korean-owned GC Developments from the Manassa Group for $10.5 million last year.
7. Budds Beach Project (Thakral)
The $800 million twin-tower hotel-apartment project will be located on a monster site in the heart of the sleepy suburb. The five-star project has been designed by world leading architects KPF and includes 238 hotel suites and 327 apartments. A public plaza, with shops and restaurants, will front Ferny Avenue.
8. Paradise Resort (CP1)
Proposed plans for a four-tower apartment project on the Northern Surfers Paradise site, which was originally in partnership with Robert Badalotti. CP1, another company crippled by the GFC, has held firm its ownership of the Paradise Resort site with plans to proceed the development.
9. NorthPoint Tower (Howard Group)
This project is currently on the market as the Howard Group continues to recover from the GFC. It has a council approved application for a 20-storey, 5-star green building.
10. Red Rooster Site (Howard Group)
The $170 million project included plans for a 40-storey tower. The unique triangular site has been supported by the council for development. It has a prime position on the former Indy Track.
11. GCI North (City Plan Partners)
The $700 million twin-towers project is located on a 1.14ha site north of the Gold Coast International. It has been tagged as the largest highrise project on the Gold Coast with 750 apartments and hotel suites included in the 40 and 53-storey towers.
