Opus 2009 July 30th, 2012, 09:56 AM Todays Gulf News had a list of the top UAE construction projects due for completion in 2012. Central Park at the DIFC is on the list. There has been a lot of activity on the site over the last few months, including over weekends.

Face81 August 1st, 2012, 10:16 AM ^^ This is the interesting part from that article....
DIFC Properties will oversee the property development of the DIFC free zone, of which roughly 40 percent remains to be constructed, and its supporting infrastructure.
ostendadler August 15th, 2012, 01:11 PM The construction that starts from the Lighthouse tower plot and goes all the way along the concrete retail spine, has been in full swing for over a month now. Including on weekends. I hope they are getting the infrastructure sorted prior to starting construction in earnest.
I haven't been in DIFC for ages? any updates on this mysterious activity?

^^
They are still at it - and seem to be in a rush to finish whatever they are doing. It is officially called the Retaining Walls project. As of today the mound of dirt that had been excavated and piled up is down to 10%.
Face81 August 16th, 2012, 04:29 PM ^^ No mystery here.
It's the 1km retail strip that was always planned to be built under the DIFC, linking the basements of all the office towers, in the same style as Canary Wharf. Good to hear this is moving ahead once more.
ostendadler August 16th, 2012, 05:01 PM ah so this huge "lane" of concrete crossing through DIFC is a shopping/retail ! I always wondered what it was ! thanks face81 one dubai mystery solved for me :)
gevorika78 August 21st, 2012, 01:07 PM guys so many workers were next to Lime Stone (Ritz Carlton) this morning, whats going on? any idea?

They started in April and have been at it including on weekends. Face 81 reckons that the work on the retail strip that goes all the way to Murooj Rotana, is underway. It is officially called the Retaining Walls Project. I don't see much demand for retail at this point but won't be surprised if they cover up the area and landscape it as per the original plans. It is quite an eye sore for the Ritz, and the Rosewood - not to speak of the residents of neighbouring buildings.
ostendadler August 22nd, 2012, 11:32 AM maybe this is just the start of a big 'start' back in DIFC. I've seen lots of tenders for projects in DIFC passing by in the last few months. After all DIFC is not finished ...

It is frenzied activity for sure. Last night the site was active until at least midnight, and then again from 5 am this morning.
Also I noticed today that the plot opposite the Difc building adjacent to the Ritz, which had previously been used as a car park, had been cordoned off. It is the one adjacent to the Maze tower.
ostendadler August 23rd, 2012, 04:59 PM I overheard conversations from colleagues working in DIFC that they are due to build parking lots to solve the "wild" parking situation in the surroundings. maybe its related
Nizey September 9th, 2012, 04:36 AM Hey guys, just found these awesome awesome renders for DIFC retail strip. If this design is indeed chosen, DIFC will be even more spectacular (it's from 2008, not sure if outdated). Someone please put up the renders:

The recent construction activity on the site stopped this week. If only 2008 hadn't hijacked te plans, this would have been an incredible place by now.
ostendadler September 9th, 2012, 10:12 AM lets not lose faith people they will have to turn up construction in key areas like downtown and DIFC

It was always planned, so it's great to see it moving ahead once more. Not sure it can be changed now given that it was always meant to be an integral part of the DIFC "spine". Really hope it's a slow, but steady return to building work at the DIFC. Can't wait to see the finished product!
THE DUBAI GUYS September 13th, 2012, 08:26 AM i like that netowrk of mini malls underneath canary wharf...so if the DIFC goes ahead and creates something similar to that...then the retail spine will be a good addition to the area...
i wonder if they will still conect to Dubai Mall like that rumor we heard a few years ago.
R
Face81 September 13th, 2012, 10:37 AM ^^ it was supposed to be connected to both the Dubai Mall and the Emirates Towers shopping boulevard, so I guess we need to watch this space....
