hillbillybob May 21st, 2004, 03:52 PM Q1 has grown so much since I was on the Gold Coast 12 months ago. Looks great!
kaleb777 June 25th, 2004, 06:51 PM Wasn't teh Grand Mariner the former tallest?
BrizzyChris June 26th, 2004, 03:25 AM Wasn't teh Grand Mariner the former tallest?
Yes, but I believe Peninsula was the tallest before that.
CULWULLA June 26th, 2004, 06:28 AM The first highrise to achieve a height of 90m+ on GC was Condor in 1975.
In 1976 the 96m Focus became tallest.
In 1977 the 98m Goldengate was next and in 1980 the massive Aquarius became top dog at 114m/40st.
Just two laters in 1982 the 47storey peninsula was clearly the highest at 137m and was also tallest in Australia, eclipsing Sydney's Park Regis by 1metre!
It took 10 years before a taller one was built, and that was the 43st/139m Grand Mariner at Mainbeach!
And it took another 10 years for the next to surpass it! In 2002 the 40storey/133m Skyline tower was completed and its spire (146m) was highest on GC!!
In May this year the 2nd Chevron Tower- Skyline North was completed to 158m/50st and it now is tallest, but only held the title for 3 months with Q1 eclipsing it only last week!
Im pretty sure the 322.5m spire of Q1 will always be highest on GC!
Noonos July 12th, 2004, 09:40 AM just cos im a lazy bum, does anyone wanna do as best as they can of a eureka on the gc in its current size? plz?lol
Noonos July 14th, 2004, 09:23 AM wow - eureka and q1 are gonna be F#$^ing huge! i mea if its only at halfway, its gonna stick out more than dogs balls!

Makes Peninsula look a little pathetic in comparison already, doesn't it.
Blend July 14th, 2004, 10:30 AM wow, you got a great view of it
defec8R July 14th, 2004, 01:02 PM With binoculars, from there you could almost make out the floor number on that banner.....*hint*
BTW in case anyone missed it, I entered this (http://server4.vnpages.net/~one/gc/q1s.jpg) night shot (taken 04/07) into the last urban photo contest. Wasn't very well received :(
CULWULLA July 14th, 2004, 01:16 PM great pic! it looking like its closing in on 600ft!/180m .
can someone soon get a close up pic to see what floor its up to?
cheers

It's quite a bit further than it looks. That photo is heavily zoomed, hence the quality. I tried to make out the floor number with my telescope, but the focus is not precise enough. I'll try and get a better shot tomorrow, I might even head downtown and get some close shots.
defec8R July 14th, 2004, 01:19 PM It was at 48 on the western side 10 days ago. So probably 49 now, possibly 50?
CULWULLA July 14th, 2004, 01:30 PM so if its 50 in the floor plate then it would be 53 with vertical columns and 55 in corebox? lev55 is 164m high.
btw, fantastic pic defec. very errie in a way. looks enormous
defec8R July 14th, 2004, 01:39 PM Q1 must now be GC's tallest for sure. I must get some photos this weekend :bash:
CULWULLA July 14th, 2004, 01:47 PM yeah i would say its now higher than the 158m Skyline North tower.
pic would be most grateful!

That's one of the best shots I've seen on Q1 thus far, great work!
kwigibo July 15th, 2004, 09:29 AM yeah i would say its now higher than the 158m Skyline North tower.

Sorry it's a bit fuzzy and tilted, it was very awkward to frame them both, too many damn trees in the way.
CULWULLA July 15th, 2004, 09:43 AM thats a good pic. the first skyline tower rises to 133m (roof) and thats next to the 158m Skyline north. peninsula is 137m and next to Q1. Since Skyline & peninsula are simiar heights this gives a good indication on how high Q1 and Skyline north is. I reckon Q1 is now higher than Skyline.
Macca-GC July 27th, 2004, 11:42 AM Get a shot from up on Highland Park. Q1 is definately taller than Skyline North. Especially from that perspective.
Macca-GC July 29th, 2004, 09:38 AM have we got an updated diagram between the two?
