View Full Version : SYD - Channel Sevens new studios
Fabian May 24th, 2004, 07:03 AM As you should know by now, Channel Seven (ATN 7) is moving out of their Epping site, which has been home to them since it's establishment in November 1956.
They are moving to Jones Bay Wharf on Pirrama Road at Pyrmont and the news centre is moving into the podium of Colonial Tower at Martin Place.

I read over the weekend that Channel Seven will move into the new news centre in August and the rest will move to Pyrmont the following month. As many as 3000 people would be working in the new studios at Pyrmont, providing a big boost to the working population of Pyrmont. Billboards promoting the new news centre have been placed along the windows at Martin Place to promote but also to hide what is happening inside
Production facilities however will remain at Epping.

finn May 24th, 2004, 11:41 AM Wow, Pyrmont/Ultimo is becoming a real TV hub, with the Channel 10 studios, ABC Studios at Ultimo, Foxtel HQ in the wharf next to the Maritime Museum and now Channel 7 studios! Optus Vision isn't too far away, directly across the harbour in North Sydney, although I think Optus are looking to move out North Ryde way.
Very interesting considering that they have all moved from the North Shore (with the exception of Foxtel) - now we've just got to get SBS (at Artarmon) and Channel 9 (at Willoughby) down to the Pyrmont Peninsula, and it will truly be a TV hub! :)
MelbourneCity May 24th, 2004, 11:58 AM Jones Bay wont be studios - its going to be the Seven Network pty ltd corporate HQ - pacific publications, ch7 Sydney & network offices will be there. Studio facilities will remain at Epping for Home and Away, All Saints etc.
The NBC style news centre should be impressive!
Fabian June 5th, 2004, 12:10 AM Again I had a peek through the doors on the Elizabeth Street side, and work was in fullswing at long last. Nothing noticeable as yet, but scaffholding has appeared inside the podium. You can see the scaffolding through the other windows.
Muse June 5th, 2004, 08:10 AM It's not huge billboards gracing the bottom of 52 Martin Place. Looks more like temporary advertisements that are painted so that it's difficult to see insde the previous banking chamber.
Wonder what Channel 7 is doing in the old ground level chamber with the scaffolding that Fabian mentioned. Hopefully some high-tech wizadry that is easily visible.
As for the burgeoning T.V. network working population in Pyrmont & Ultimo, maybe I'll be "discovered" as I live in the area :) - Possibly as an extra in the background for a cafe scene in Neighbours or Home & Away :( .
Fabian July 2nd, 2004, 01:58 PM Here is a description of what to expect as seen on the Channel Seven (http://www.seven.com.au/news/about) website
The 7news Centre will be one of the most technologically advanced digital television centres in the world with a glass-faced, high-definition digital television studio plus digital newsgathering and production video-server technology. Sony in Japan has been commissioned to be Seven's principal supplier. We are working together to make 7news Centre a showcase for the world's best high-definition studio broadcast technologies.
Seven will produce Sunrise, Sunday Sunrise, 7news and other programming from a new high-definition digital television studio to be constructed in the building’s atrium. Each of these programmes will be produced live-to-air in a glass-fronted news centre allowing the public to watch Seven's programming in production.
With 7news Centre in Martin Place, Seven will be making a strong public connection with our audiences. We are planning to migrate our hugely successful Sunrise into a new home in the city – allowing the public to connect directly with the programme that's changing the face of breakfast television. Ian Ross will anchor our 6pm news in Sydney from 7news Centre.
Seven's digital news studio will be at ground level. Seven's major newsroom will be on the first floor of 7news Centre, with Sunrise and Today Tonight based on the second floor. Seven will be introducing video server "tapeless" technology to create the most advanced news operation in the world.
And passing by the site today, One of the control rooms is being done up with TV screens now installed on the ground level.
Fabian July 11th, 2004, 10:25 AM Opening of the news centre is scheduled for August 30!!!!
:cucumber::cucumber::cucumber::cucumber::cucumber::cucumber::cucumber:
rondeez July 14th, 2004, 04:34 AM This is going to be BIG!
I cant wait! Im most excited about Sunrise capturing the hectic vibe of the city. So my eyes will definitely be glued to the TV screen come August 30. Lets start a countdown... LOL
With Sevens news gaining [and in Sydney even beating] on Nine i wonder what the rival network has up their sleaves to counter?
Fabian July 15th, 2004, 09:02 AM I finally managed to grab a pic of work inside through the narrow gap on the Elizabeth St side. More monitors and screens have appeared.

SydneyDude July 15th, 2004, 02:56 PM Great shot Fabian!! hahaha
I hope these new studios are chockers full of plasma screens.. mmmmm
Fabian July 21st, 2004, 10:29 PM Good News!!!! The move will begin next week. Staff will begin moving into the Pyrmont complex from next week.
Fabian August 8th, 2004, 12:04 AM I put my camera through the gap again yesterday

The Elizabeth Street level continue's to progress fairly slowly. There is still a heap of scaffholding and it's just weeks until it's opening. Alot of the work has been concentrated at the back. Another control room is being done up with more screens which you can see in the pic. Another layer of Glass has also been installed in fron't of the existing windows with a few more on various parts.of the complex.
There is nothing to see yet on the Phillip Street level. I was lucky to have the door open on that side and I managed a stickybeak. I should of been quick on grabbing a shot before a worker came into in view, but there was nothing worth taking a pic of.
climbing_crane August 8th, 2004, 05:21 AM You should of got a photo of the fashion tent they were erecting in Martin Place. Once the girls come on tomorrow that won't be the only thing doing some erecting.
atkinson1 August 8th, 2004, 01:43 PM Haha awesome spy photos. It would be awesome if they had a news studio at the top of a skyscraper with a window background over looking the city. It probably wouldn't be very practicle though.

With Sevens news gaining [and in Sydney even beating] on Nine i wonder what the rival network has up their sleaves to counter?
True enough Seven is starting to kick Nine's arse in the news department, pity about the rest of their schedule, I don't know about you but I ain't hanging out to watch 100% Tony Sqires (a former TV Critic?) or Crossing Jordan (Formerly of the superior L&O) and I'm dirty on Seven for giving Tru Calling the flick! Hell if it wasn't for Roadhouse last Friday night I may not have watched them at all - save for their news/sunrise which is currently the best.
I shudder to think the last time Seven news was beating Nine they retaliated by starting a Bingo competition - true story, cross your fingers that that doesn't happen again.
On the subject of News - how is the Jana Pitman story MORE important than the baby being snatched? I see pictures of Pitman crying - i wanna tell the stupid bitch that she has nothing to cry about in comparison to some people.

You know how it is here. Sport is always more important than anything else that may or may not be happening out there in the world...
Why else would Channel 9 abandon all of it's programming throughout Summer to broadcast cricket to two devout viewers?
Tony P August 8th, 2004, 11:00 PM Why else would Channel 9 abandon all of it's programming throughout Summer to broadcast cricket to two devout viewers?
Because Kerry Packer and John Howard are the two devout viewers.
nagelixin August 9th, 2004, 03:00 AM Hopefully Howard will have alot of spare time this summer to watch his favourite network. :P
ShayPlan August 13th, 2004, 06:14 PM what now for previous channel 7 site at epping? More mundane housing projects? :ohno:
Let's hope there is better urban design projects for the site.

Fabian August 14th, 2004, 10:09 AM The doors on the Phillip Street side were open this afternoon. The scaffholding had been removed and it was bare.
The doors on the Elizabeth Street side have been boarded up but I managed to find a gap to peep my eyes through and I saw some green boards in front of the glass. It might be for backdrops. It looked a bit like it. I'm not sure.
Fabian August 21st, 2004, 11:13 AM Here's a scoop for you guys. After seeing this, things look like they will be ready for August 30 which is the anticipated date for the opening.

Fabian August 22nd, 2004, 08:15 AM Do you want to be on T.V. Fabian?
No way. I'm very camera shy. Everytime a camera is put in my face, I try to avoid it. :(
Also I read in "The Dairy" which is in the Sun Herald's "S" section, that the news team have been conducting new rehearsals in the new studios. On Thursday & Friday night, Ian Ross and Co after presenting the 6pm news headed to Martin Place to do their rehearsals, all of this with people walking by in full view.
Fabian August 27th, 2004, 08:12 AM Did anyone watch Sunrise this morning? I wasn't paying full attention but around 8:45 this morning, the weather presenter tried to take a tour to show viewers the new set but security refused to let them in :bash:
They will have special guests coming in next week to celebrate the move on Sunrise with K.D Lang & Human Nature expected to perform on the program.
Make sure you tune in at 6:30 on Monday Morning for Sunrise whether it's from the comfort of your home or right outside the set. :)
Also has anyone noticed that the news updates at night have been from the new studios. The presenter has presented the update with TV monitors acting as a backdrop.
Aussie Steve August 27th, 2004, 08:34 AM I think this new location is great. I wish they would do the same in Melbourne. I know the studios are in South Yarra, but a view to the CBD from South Yarra would be great.

Was that live on tv? Why didn't the security let them in? Wasn't it planned to happen lol.
Sounds like the new channel seven studios are coming along nicely.

Cricket should be banned from television. I hope Packer looses all the stay at home mum viewers that tune into Days of our Lives and Y&R. Many of them have already threatened never to watch the show again or the network. These viewers are fanatical and some have been glued to the show longer than most of the forums have been alive! Between the mums, old nannas and the young watches of these shows (vastly more people than watch the cricket) Channel 9 may find their patronage drops off due to their selfish desire to run cricket.
In two weeks CH9 will be screening new episodes of the thwo shows that have been on TV for almost three decades. Years of episodes will be condensced into two 1 hour shows for each. Cricket is the cause of this due to programming interrupting the serials on far too many occasions. Each show is over 4 years behind the US and they want it up-to-date, pity about the viewers.

I bet you that you'd watch cricket if they used shinier, more reflective balls. :)
Vitriol August 28th, 2004, 05:58 AM My mum has watched Y&R since it begain in Australia in 1974. She has never missed an episode. I told her what Channel 9 planned to do (ie. bundle the past four years into one "special" episode and flash forward to the present) and she says that she's not going to bother with the show anymore.
It's a little too much to ask of the fans methinks.

I like sport, just not boring cricket and slow rugby.
Soccer, motor sports and the olympics are far more easy to watch and even engrose the viewer i think.
nagelixin August 28th, 2004, 01:38 PM Fabian!
Many thanks for taking those pics. You deserve to be the Australian of the year, not some 5 minutes of fame sports star!
Jimmy James August 29th, 2004, 02:54 AM I agree with the people angered over Nein's hadling of those soaps, this is typical of what they do to shows, think of all the good US shows that have been given haphazard, unpredictable runs by Nein due 2 Cricket or worse lifestyle crud. The list is extensive...
Murphy Brown
Love & War
The John Larroquette Show
The Drew Carey Show
Frasier
Wings
Star Trek The Next Generation
The Commish
3rd Watch
Star Trek Deep Space Nine
Family Matters (Nine went to all the trouble to get the rights fro Seven then promptly shelved it)
Star Trek Voyager
Enterprise
Spin City
The OC (Ten picked it up at least!)
I could go on and on and on!

CBD to anchor news
By MARCUS CASEY

http://images.news.com.au/thedailytelegraph/1856702_jim.jpg
City skylines . . . Nine’s Jim Waley and Seven’s Ian Ross (inset) in their new settings, with the different views of Sydney behind them.
THANKS Ian and Jim, now it's over to you, Sydney. The CBD will be the extra anchor in the news war between Channels 9 and 7 from today.
Seven will broadcast its first news services -- Sunrise at 6.30am and tonight's 6pm bulletin -- from its new Martin Place studio after more than a year in development and millions spent on construction.
Seven hopes the move will cement its overtaking of Nine as Sydney's top nightly TV news this year by making the CBD the backdrop for Ian Ross's service.
Nine has countered by simply placing a camera on a Kirribilli building to send a live CBD backdrop -- including the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge -- also debuting tonight.
Nine will also introduce a new set with upgraded graphics and a time-lapse weather segment to counter
Seven's Martin Place studio, where the public will be able to look in from two streets.
Seven News chief Peter Meakin says street traffic will add a unique live feel to the news, while Nine says ferries, bridge traffic and the changing twilight will be a major point of difference in their news.
"It's about bringing life to the news and becoming more a part of the city," Meakin said.
"News presentation has become staid and presented like it's the end of the world, but there is a market for a brighter and breezier style while delivering valid information for the entire city."
All of Seven's news plus Sunrise and Sportsworld and occasionally Today Tonight will air from Martin Place instead of suburban Epping.
The changes are the most significant in well over a decade.
They follow Jim Waley's Nine bulletin being toppled, a slow audience leak throughout last year turning into a 2004 flood after the retirement of Brian Henderson 21 months ago.
Nine News boss Max Uechtritz said the changes were about upgrading to the 21st century more than reacting to Seven's move.
"There were changes I wanted and this is part of that," he said.
Muse August 29th, 2004, 10:52 PM ^ So it's the news/current affairs war. If only the commercial stations' news services were as good a quality as Channel 2's or even better, SBS's.
I'm watching 7 as we speak. Mel 'n Dave are wandering around greeting us to the new studio. There are about 5 onlookers standing outside.
Obviously the concept follows NBC's overnight gig (rather NYC's morning gig) @ their Rockefeller Centre studio.
We've been informed that we can expect lots of entertainment kicking off with a performance by Killing Heidi this Friday. Same as NBC's (surprise, surprise).
Even that bright spark weather dude Grant is pumping us up and asking for all to come down there.
OMG Now they're all asking us to come down. I'm sure we'll hear it a squillion times.
No complaints really. Even more so, it will make the CBD a livelier place.
Muse August 29th, 2004, 10:56 PM BTW One lives in hope that a wrap-around digital news ticker will eventually be adhered to the podium.
Melbourne has a Channel 7 one opposite Flinders Street Station.
fro August 29th, 2004, 11:28 PM Meh, I'm watching sunrise now also. It looks ok I suppose, not sure if it's worth all the fuss.
CULWULLA August 30th, 2004, 12:27 AM they should have views of major skyscrapers UC or webcams from sydney tower scanning around the CBD. something intresting.
rondeez August 30th, 2004, 11:39 PM they should have views of major skyscrapers UC or webcams from sydney tower scanning around the CBD. something intresting.
haha u should head to the new studios during sunrise one morning and tell them yourself and on national television..
comon skyscraper fans... somebody get onto sunrise and spread the word already!
i wonder if people from other countries and interstate will be flocking to be on telly when they are in Sydney? There was already a Melbourne couple yesterday... it could be a new attraction. Just like people from other parts of America go to NBC's live studios to say hi to their families.
fro August 31st, 2004, 02:39 AM Yeah rondeez, but the question remains, do they have security guards outside to stop people doing nasty stuff on live tv in the background?
elliott August 31st, 2004, 03:00 AM Australian TV seems 'so' americanised. What new tv programs have you got there which are big, like UK tv programs which have become global eg Who wants to be a Millionaire, Weakest Link, Pop Idol, Coronation Street or things like teletubbies (lol). Ones i know shown on UK tv are Neighbours, Home and Away, Kath and Kim and The Secret Life of Us.
Fabian August 31st, 2004, 06:41 AM I'm happy with the new settings. It was worth the one year wait.
There was a good crowd on hand last night watching the news from outside. I counted at least a dozen or so people watching on the Elizabeth Street side, if not more. They even showed a live aerial of the crowd on Elizabeth Street from a camera mounted in the nearby Prudential Building. Viewers were also treated a live view of Martin Place at the start and end of the bulletin.
The news intro is great as well, featuring shots of Colonial Centre and Sydney Tower.
Channel nine's live skyline shot wasn't too bad for day one. It was a pretty good move by them.
It didn't take long for people to start splashing signs with two people carrying placcards for 2Day Fm hanging around in the proximity and in the background.
routemarker September 1st, 2004, 02:07 AM BTW One lives in hope that a wrap-around digital news ticker will eventually be adhered to the podium.

Well that depends on sydney city council. The council also wont allow for speakers and screens to be placed so that onlookers can hear whats going on or so ive heard.

atkinson1 September 1st, 2004, 12:56 PM I think banning large TV screens in public is to prevent traffic accidents and the like, when people get distracted whilst driving. I'm not sure why else the council would ban TV screens.
Fabian September 1st, 2004, 01:46 PM I think banning large TV screens in public is to prevent traffic accidents and the like, when people get distracted whilst driving. I'm not sure why else the council would ban TV screens.
Back in 1998, Sydney City Council decided to not to place a screen at the corner of Park & George Streets on the then Citigroup Construction site to show the Commonwealth Games for that reason.
I don't see any problem with news tickers and normal sized TV screens being erected around the complex for passerby's to have a look at. It would lift up the vibe around there.
SydneyDude September 1st, 2004, 01:58 PM I love the new format, its just fantastic. The only complaint is when the camera is on the old newsreader dude (whats his name again), but he only takes up the right half of the screen. the other half is a huge 7 news logo in bright red and blue, and i found myself focussing more on the left side of the screen as opposed to the newsreader. But when they have the camera on a diferent angle where it catches the pasma screen behind him, it looks unreal.
and finally we are gettin ch7 news in widescreen HD digital! Bout time!
nsn September 8th, 2004, 01:38 AM Has anyone else noticed a couple of changes in the Seven "News Central" and "Brekky Central" studios over the last couple of days? Seems that someone at Seven realised that it was sometimes inappropriate to have gormless nitwits standing at the window waving at the camera when there was a discussion of a serious matter going on, or an interview with an expert on some topic of current news interest. I noticed on both Seven News last night and on Sunrise this morning that they have installed screens or shading over the windows so that you can't see clearly through to a crowd of people standing and waving. On Sunrise, it looks as though the screens are portable - they had them there blocking out the people when there was a discussion going on, but then when they went back to a "coming up next" segment they were gone and you could see through the windows, and sure enough there were a couple of fools standing there waving, talking on their mobile phones, presumably saying "Look at me, Pa! I'm on telly-vision". There was also material over the windows behind Natalie Barr when she was reading the news, as with Ian Ross on the evening news.
Fabian September 8th, 2004, 09:23 AM they should have views of major skyscrapers UC or webcams from sydney tower scanning around the CBD. something intresting.
They have mounted cameras on top of the Colonial Centre. They zoomed in on the ANZAC Bridge after a commerical break and it was live. Nuala, the weather presenter, also did the weather live from the roof on Monday.
I dread the glary windows on seven news as I no longer can see people and traffic going by. However I did find it very distracting, as I was always focused on what was going on outside than Ian.
Vitriol September 8th, 2004, 02:46 PM and sure enough there were a couple of fools standing there waving
There will always be fuckwits aiming to get their face on television, no matter where you go.
Haven't you been watching "Australian Idol"?
Fabian September 8th, 2004, 10:24 PM I don't think we should brand bystanders outside as fools. They are standing outthere waving. They have behaved. My real worry is people who do stupid things ie making faces, rude gestures, and doing silly stuff such as mooning at the camera. Many people get excited when they're going to be on TV, so it's a natural reaction.

Very funny!

Also it's been good to notice that they have placed flatscreen TV's for people standing outside to watch the news along with teleprompters (the camera that newsreaders read the reports off. It's a pity they don't have speakers to project sound to those standing outside.
Muse November 3rd, 2004, 04:16 PM ^^ It's reminiscent of the electrical stores that line Clarence St.
Where are the fancy-shmancy newsreel tickers encompassing the scraper's podium? Where are the huge plasma screens blasting us away? Where is the razza-ma-tazz and blatant commercialism? Alas.....
Trances November 3rd, 2004, 04:26 PM that would be good fabs nice idea
Muse November 3rd, 2004, 04:37 PM Yeah, my ideas are just ridiculous....ridiculous pipedreams.
Fabian November 3rd, 2004, 08:33 PM A bystander yesterday agreed with the idea of a ticker plus the sound as I was checking out the coverage Presidential Election with Chris Bath at the helm. I also spoted Ian Ross upstairs.
Fabian December 17th, 2004, 11:58 AM In town early this morning, I dropped by "Brekky Central" and saw Casey Donavan perform on Sunrise. She also went outside to meet the people watching the program and signed autographs. The atmosphere was great too with people handing out channel seven balloons and the presenters chatting with bystanders and signing autographs during ad breaks and when the show was over.
I'll post the pix later.
Muse December 17th, 2004, 12:16 PM BTW There is a new red digi-newsticker @ the back of the ABC Building in the plaza area. Very hidden but a "proper" newsticker.

I was very lucky to see Casey Donovan perform as well!!!!

I have to say that the turnouts each morning has been super with dozens milling around outside each morning, even during the holiday period. Families even rock up at 7am to check out whats happening on the program!!!!
kota16 January 9th, 2005, 12:43 AM Congratulations to Channel 7 for setting the scene of males not having to TIES. This is the spirit of Australia and I wonder if Channel 9 will follow with the Today Show.
zulu69 January 9th, 2005, 01:08 AM Yeah this studio has really turned out great. Every morning the place is buzzing like you said fab. Also it just adds to Syndey's street life watching it on TV in the morning, and the whats really funny is how channel 9 tries to make up for it without having there own rival show in the cbd.

I've seen Steve Liebmann without a tie on Today a few times

The Today show has tried to counter this with their "Summer in the City" series as their set at the Willoghby studios is given a makeover. The began by broadcasting outside the David Jones Elizabeth Street (across the road to be correct) and have been broadcasting from the top of the Intercontinental Hotel. Channel Nine have done a great job countering Channel seven and yes the viewers are returning back to nine (me included so I grab a glimpse of the city skyline :) )
BTW There is a new red digi-newsticker @ the back of the ABC Building in the plaza area. Very hidden but a "proper" newsticker.
Thanks for that news :) But why put it there when they can place it along the Harris Street side, which would bring in to view for more people (including motorists driving up the street)?
Cmon Channel Seven, follow the lead of the ABC.
And adding to this, Today Tonight with Anna Coren has also been coming out of the Martin Place studios for a change.
Muse January 9th, 2005, 03:48 AM Yeah, I don't know why the ABC put it @ the back of the building. Bit wasted.
I passed Channel 7 the other morning. OMG It was like a circus with the onlookers.
Excellent pics Fabian!
Fabian January 12th, 2005, 09:03 AM I passed Channel 7 the other morning. OMG It was like a circus with the onlookers.
Isn't this what we originally wanted???? It's good to see a fairly vibrant atmosphere in this part of town at such an early hour of the day :) The move to Martin Place has proven to be popular. It's that viewers and the people of Sydney are supporting it by turning up and seeing it for themselves. That is live television. I thought being there on that morning was better than watching it at home.
Fabian January 13th, 2005, 05:15 AM BTW One lives in hope that a wrap-around digital news ticker will eventually be adhered to the podium.
Believe it or not, one has popped out of nowhere as of late, located on top of the windows along the Martin Place side. :okay:
Now I await a big projection screen with sound to be placed around the podium screening programs 24/7.
atkinson1 January 17th, 2005, 09:45 AM I walked through Martin Place about a week ago and had a look. Great to see Harry's Mushroom in real life LOL

I happened to see it on Channel 7's Sunrise this morning - not quite the NYC's mega wrap arounds of news tickers on Channel 9's 4.30AM "Good Morning America" on weekdays, but Sydney's @ 52 Martin Place is a good "start".
Fabian January 30th, 2005, 04:55 AM And here are the pix of the newsticker. They look awesome.

And watchout for the new backdrop which starts on Feb 7 which will feature a shot of the city skyline and it will include more of the news studio. The current backdrop of Martin Place/Elizabeth Street will be ditched because of complaints that what goes on in the background has become too distracting and people can only see buses, flashing traffic signals and people trying to get their 15 seconds of fame on the telly.
drnilescrane January 31st, 2005, 02:42 AM Dumb question, but what was in the lobby before the studio's were erected? Was it a proper lobby... Bank? Big glass doors? Did it look like the one it suposedly had in the matrix?

That's interesting. Seems like a pretty big admission that this move was not such a good idea - not for the news at least (it may have been more appropriate just fr Sunrise...)
Are you saying we won't get any more live shots of the street, even clouded out? So they'll just have the old-style projection behind the newsreader?
fox1 May 9th, 2005, 11:12 AM yes.
it wasn;'t a terrific move. the building itself: great!
the ratings reaction to the super dooper new look and the hot new set, with the traffic behind: very very lukewarm. It wasn't JUST the set though in my opinion.
The new set, well, with the Play School features, is not all that great. Although that skyline angle has grown on me.. looks pretty classy sometimes. very dark now though
Fabian June 22nd, 2005, 08:39 AM The SCC recently approved a D/A by Channel Seven to conduct concerts outside the studios and further down around the MLC Building for Sunrise. They will be permitted to do this up to forty times a year. This will be trialled.
Clover Moore backed the idea as it would contribute the vibrancy of the CBD and inject activity onto the streets. Some office workers, mainly law workers were against it because of noise.
Also I managed to grab a seat in the audience for Sunrise on July 7. Should be great watching the show inside.
fox1 June 22nd, 2005, 09:16 AM great... of course.
Should always have been a go-er
Muse June 23rd, 2005, 06:38 AM The other week, I took a really early bus downtown @ about 5.30AM and when i got down to 52 Martin Place, it was about 5.45pm. The digital news and weather readouts weren't running.
Fortunately there was a guy outside and after I asked why. He told me Channel 7 switches them off @ around 11.00PM the evening before and turn 'em back on @ 6.00AM next morning.
So I took about a 10 minute stroll around the area, and returned @ 6.00AM and sure enough, they were back on.
I was a bit disappointed they don't run all night.
...
Fabian January 22nd, 2006, 09:26 AM The Channel Seven store is now open on the Elizabeth St side selling channel seven merchandise including those from its programs such as Sunrise, Home and Away and Desparate Housewives. You can also purchase Australian Open merchandise.
In addition, you can get a photo of yourself on a cover of ACP magazines, and on the set of popular channel seven programs including Seven News and Sunrise.
Performers on Sunrise appear in the store from time to time. The Veronicas and Paulini had autograph sessions following recent on air appearances with hundreds flocking to the store to meet them.
Go there if you get the chance, even if its just for a bit of window shopping.

Fabian March 4th, 2006, 07:52 AM ^^^Yes, I got the names jumbled up. I thought PBL was it's name same as the name of the media group^^^
And yes I have a shot from its banking chamber days, just prior to its conversion into a TV studio.

drnilescrane March 4th, 2006, 11:58 AM Thanks Fabian... So the faux wood panneling can be blamed on Seven... Hopefully the same goes for the horrible new lobby on Philip Street... Even though it's not much worse than the rest of the building which is interesting but dated.
I'm trying to get my bearings - was the banking chambers on the lower floor (New Studio) with an entrance on Elizabeth, and the Philip Street level (New Newsroom) part of the building lobby, or am I totaly wrong?
EDIT: Look, and ye shal recieve - I found floor plans.
http://www.arch.usyd.edu.au/kcdc/caut/html/SBC/images/plan.JPG
It seems the upper level was for slightly more serious banking and the lower was the counters and they were linked by Escalator. I still can't work out where the entrances were - my guess is the small door on Elizabeth where the Seven Lobby currently is and through the stairway in the main lobby. I wonder if Seven got control of the Gym and the Pool when they leased all the previous bank floors (Level 2 to 10)
enterprise August 20th, 2007, 12:44 PM Does anyone know why the ticker has not been on lately? Ive been working close by for the last 2 months, and I cant remember it being on in that time?
Fabian August 22nd, 2007, 12:44 AM I have been passing through it daily for the past few weeks yet not noticed.
It's nice how they have projection screens with sound projecting programmes straight into Martin Place. Makes viewing Sunrise, Seven News and Today Tonight alot more enjoyable (watching it on location with audio).
LanceDriver August 22nd, 2007, 12:46 AM it was a smart move by 7 to set up the news studio in the centre of the cbd.

Unless you think those (and other) Channel 7 programmes are rubbish, in which case it's nothing but audio visual pollution.
