Interesting thread!

But are you sure this one is really Portuguese?

http://www.uploadimages.net/images/59994499893912DStJOp_ph.jpg

I think it looks more like some French or English style. But we've algo got stuff like this in Brazil too. Macau could be in Brazil! :D

I wonder if you can still find Portuguese speakers in the city's streets...

In fact, Santa Casa da Misericordia only exists in Portugal and ex-Portuguese colonies, although it is a atholic organisation . That's why you know it in Brazil.. but if you ask someone from SPain or Mexico , they won't have a clue.

I really like Macao.. it's a very beautiful city .. and I find that most of those Portuguese-style buildings have a somewhat "oriental" touch. Moreover, they are very CLEAN, and well-kept. Maybe POrtugal should learn something with Macao, in terms of Historical buildings preservation

Much of Portugal's monuments and historical buildings have been renovated or will be in the next 10 years due to a financial programme put into action some weeks ago.

is it true that there is a plan to destroy the POrtuguese School of Macau (former Pedro Nolasco School, built in 1966, project by Portuguese Modernist Raul Chorão Ramalho) ? That would be very sad news.. :(
