Petronius January 16th, 2005, 11:34 PM the legislative building was a HOSPITAL before right? Santa Casa de Misericórdia is the name of hospitals supported by the catholic church I think (it means Holy House of Mercy)
In fact, Santa Casa da Misericordia only exists in Portugal and ex-Portuguese colonies, although it is a atholic organisation . That's why you know it in Brazil.. but if you ask someone from SPain or Mexico , they won't have a clue.
Petronius January 16th, 2005, 11:37 PM I really like Macao.. it's a very beautiful city .. and I find that most of those Portuguese-style buildings have a somewhat "oriental" touch. Moreover, they are very CLEAN, and well-kept. Maybe POrtugal should learn something with Macao, in terms of Historical buildings preservation
Madhusudhan January 17th, 2005, 04:21 AM GOA in India, is also famous for it's Portuguese style architecture.

Petronius June 29th, 2005, 11:48 PM is it true that there is a plan to destroy the POrtuguese School of Macau (former Pedro Nolasco School, built in 1966, project by Portuguese Modernist Raul Chorão Ramalho) ? That would be very sad news.. :(
