redstone May 25th, 2004, 05:18 PM The Skyscraper Boom there sure is fast!
Many highrise apartments shot up in just a short period of several years.
Hope Downtown would be as fast!:)
RafflesCity May 25th, 2004, 06:19 PM They also demolished all those old lowrise houses opposite Whampoa Market. I expect more development on my next trip down there.
huaiwei May 26th, 2004, 01:36 PM The Rocca Balestier seems to be freaking tall for a 17 floor building? I could see it rising like a monster from the CTE!
redstone May 26th, 2004, 02:35 PM Is it near Quality Hotel?
huaiwei May 26th, 2004, 02:38 PM Is it near Quality Hotel?
Beside it I tink.
redstone May 26th, 2004, 02:40 PM Oh ,wow!
It is unusual for such a short building to be so tall!It looks like 25 storeys tall rather than 17!
Super-high ceilings?
huaiwei May 26th, 2004, 02:46 PM The bottom 4 floors look like they have rather high ceilings?
heirloom May 26th, 2004, 02:49 PM rocca balestier looks so typical balestier / hotel 81-ish...
mandale heights *stifles giggle* and de paradiso both look ok but really neeed better names!
huaiwei May 26th, 2004, 02:54 PM What is so funny about Mandale Height?
redstone May 26th, 2004, 03:01 PM I think it looks something like Moulmein Rise ,you know ,the Modern look?
The Rocca looks wierd.
heirloom May 26th, 2004, 03:18 PM the name... so *manly*
redstone May 26th, 2004, 03:21 PM Rocca sounds like a brand of chocolate.:D
Reminds me of Ferrero Rocher.:D
huaiwei May 26th, 2004, 03:22 PM the name... so *manly*
You are odd.
They shd call it Womandale Height then?
heirloom May 26th, 2004, 03:32 PM rocca makes me think of j.lo.. haha
no lar i was just thinking mandale sounds so manly... not adverse to the idea but its just amusing!
redstone May 26th, 2004, 03:36 PM How 'boout 'Mandai'?:D
heirloom May 26th, 2004, 03:42 PM haha i prnounce as maaaarn-dai not man-dai so i never thought of it that way...
huaiwei May 26th, 2004, 03:53 PM rocca makes me think of j.lo.. haha
no lar i was just thinking mandale sounds so manly... not adverse to the idea but its just amusing!
I pity those who have names like Mandy.....
RafflesCity May 26th, 2004, 10:01 PM The Rocca Balestier seems to be freaking tall for a 17 floor building? I could see it rising like a monster from the CTE!
Maybe..I was quite excited when I saw the construction then when I went to the signboard I was disappointed -_-
Interesting comments about the names. Mandale Heights must be inspired by the Burmese name of Mandaly. Notice that in the description of de paradiso they made no mention of Balestier - like as if it would cheapen the image.
I really hope Rocca turns out alright. It looks cheap and the colour is tacky from the rendering. :borg:
redstone May 27th, 2004, 09:05 AM Rocca looks like a cheapo project.:(
RafflesCity May 27th, 2004, 09:44 AM I hope the mall will be decent.
redstone May 27th, 2004, 09:56 AM Condos with malls only are not very common.
heirloom May 27th, 2004, 12:22 PM rocco IS a cheapo project :/ the mall cannot be ok - no mall in balestier can be ok, not for another at least 20 years in my guesstimation. it simply is too seedy... look at the cheap hotels and durian sellers and light shops... at least got nice chicken rice.. hrm actually there's one nice condo u/c in balestier... maybe 10 years would do :)
huaiwei May 27th, 2004, 12:37 PM Condos with malls only are not very common.
What you mean by "with malls only?" Then what else is missing there?
redstone May 27th, 2004, 03:14 PM I mean ,most complexes are condo + mall + office ,or office + mall ,or office + condo.
Condo + mall complexes are not common.;)
Heir ,there's a shopping mall called Shaw Plaza in Balestier. This is a condo + office + mall + cinema.;)
heirloom May 27th, 2004, 03:33 PM yeah i know... not nice either..
redstone May 27th, 2004, 03:43 PM At least it changed the area's 'reputation' of being a shophouse district.:)
heirloom May 27th, 2004, 03:55 PM mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm being famous for shophouses isn't bad, but it's the seediness that's killing...
redstone May 27th, 2004, 03:58 PM seediness?
Huh?
heirloom May 27th, 2004, 05:11 PM definitions of seedy
Having many seeds.
Resembling seeds or a seed.
Worn and shabby; unkempt: “He was soiled and seedy and fragrant with gin” (Mark Twain).
Tired or sick; unwell.
Somewhat disreputable; squalid: a seedy hotel in a run-down neighborhood
redstone May 27th, 2004, 05:16 PM Most of the shophouses had been restored ,although some still remain worn-down what.
heirloom May 27th, 2004, 05:19 PM it's not the state of the shophouses, but rather the people... and the businesses...
redstone May 27th, 2004, 05:24 PM Oh ,I see...
RafflesCity May 27th, 2004, 11:48 PM aiyah..give this road a few years its image will shape up.
The area at Novena MRT used to be depressing and boring with a cemetery, now its vibrant with more malls and businesses. These new highrise housing will hopefully change the population profile at balestier Rd.
heirloom May 28th, 2004, 08:18 AM it's kind of um a dilemma.. if it becomes another novena it will be pretty and all but it loses its um.. feel... it's pretty hard to imagine prostitution and hilton.. or perhaps durian stalls might one day become old-chic like yakun's kaya toast..
redstone May 28th, 2004, 08:25 AM Geylang worse reputation than Balestier ,what!
At Balestier ,you can see the beautiful architecture and not bad what.;)
Most shophouses at Geylang are Modern and Art Deco styles. And it is notorius as a place of brothels ,crime and the low-life.

that development as well as quite a few others along tanjong rhu... spanish resort-ish is it?
de paradiso seems to have a bit of that but with cool colours like lincoln modern or bishan point or something...
RafflesCity July 1st, 2004, 07:14 PM dont look similar to me and de paradiso isnt in such a nice location.
fortunately the balconies in the 1st pic face away from the busy and noisy Balestier Rd

RafflesCity July 13th, 2004, 01:47 PM Freehold De Paradiso Relaunched This Weekend
23 June 2004
De Paradiso Development Pte Ltd, a member of BS Capital Group, will be launching its remaining 24 units in De Paradiso, a freehold 20-storey apartment development off Mandalay Road, at an average price of $598 psf this weekend.
More than 50% of the units were snapped up during the first launch of De Paradiso in March 2002. Shortly thereafter, the showflat was closed due to the progress of construction.
“The relaunch pricing is competitive compared to the recent transactions in neighbouring developments like Ansley, Mandale Heights and Pinnacle 18 which are transacted between $645 to $726 psf this year,” said Mr. Joseph Tan, Director, Residential Project Marketing, CB Richard Ellis.
Nestled in the private residential estates of Novena, De Paradiso is conveniently located near modern amenities such as shopping malls, cinemas, supermarkets and schools (Shaw Plaza, Novena Square, Anglo-Chinese Primary School). The Novena MRT Station is also within walking distance. Accessibility to various parts of Singapore is easy via the CTE, PIE and Orchard Road is just but a few minutes away.
Comprising two and three-bedroom units as well as penthouses, with sizes ranging from 904 – 2108 sq ft, the development also boasts spectacular views of Orchard Road and the CDB skyline from the upper floors.
The Temporary Occupation Permit for De Paradiso is expected next month.
CB Richard Ellis is the sole marketing agent for De Paradiso.
The showflats at No. 20, Martaban Road will be open to the public between 10.00am and 6.00pm daily. The showflat will open till 8pm this weekend to allow interested buyers to enjoy the spectacular night views of the city from the high floor units.
