Fahdingding March 9th, 2011, 01:10 AM Cagayan de Oro Is Booming
After the first Starbucks in Mindanao opened few days ago and that was located only in our city, the City of Golden Friendship Cagayan de Oro. Few days later after it was opened, SM cinema Cagayan de Oro is now in 3D which most of the people in Cagayan de Oro is dreaming about this. The 3D of SM Cagayan de Oro is formally opened last November 12, 2010 and the rate of the said cinema is 250 pesos including pop corn. In the next few years Ayala Mall is rising in front of Gaisano Mall and this mall already start the construction of their building.
2 decades of living here in Cagayan de Oro I saw and witness the improvements of our city. Let’s admit that our city Cagayan de Oro is now booming and accept that there is an improvement every year.
The Questions are:
* Are you ready to accept the new Cagayan de Oro.?
* Are you ready to accept Ayala Mall Cagayan de Oro and start shopping in this mall soon when they will be open?
* Are you ready to Social Life or ready to climb the social life?
If your answer of these 3 questions are a BIG YES then you are a pure Kagay-anons or if you are not from Cagayan de Oro and your answers are all YES then you LOVE Cagayn de Oro.
If you like to be update on what are movies showing in SM Cinema 3D Cagayan de Oro you can follow them on their Facebook Fan page or on their twitter account.

Taegon March 14th, 2011, 06:09 PM ALI to build its 3rd boutique hotel in Cagayan de Oro City
By JAMES A. LOYOLA
March 14, 2011, 11:24pm
Inquirer.net
MANILA, Philippines – Ayala Land Inc. announced that it is putting up a new boutique hotel in Cagayan de Oro City as part of the 3.7-hectare mixed-use development named Centrio, the first in the area to offer a full range of uses including retail and office in one integrated location.
The boutique hotel project is a joint venture between AyalaLand Hotels and Resorts Corp. (AHRC), a subsidiary of property giant Ayala Land Inc. (ALI), and Anflo Mangement and Investment Corporation (Anflocor).
The hotel will be the third in a series of boutique hotels to be operated by AHRC and catering to both businessmen and tourists in key underserved markets of the Philippines.
The first boutique hotel will rise in Bonifacio Global City. The second, which is also a joint venture with Anflocor, will rise in Davao City. Both boutique hotels are also expected to open in 2012.
ALI vice president Al Legaspi said the 150-room, eight-story structure will be stacked above the three-story Centrio mall, with its main lobby on the fourth level.
“The hotel has been designed to offer a stylish and warm hotel experience. At the same time, it will provide easy and convenient access to restaurants, shops, cinemas and other retail outlets,” he added.
It will also have function and meeting rooms, an executive lounge, a business center, indoor and al fresco restaurant, a fitness gym and swimming pool.
The hotel and mall complex will likewise be conveniently accessible to an office building that can cater to the unique needs of BPO companies seeking greater presence in Cagayan de Oro City.
Anflocor vice-chairman Tonyboy Floirendo said “This (CDO) key city is considered as the economic gateway to Northern Mindanao, a prime educational center, as well as one of the emerging tourist destinations of the country known for river rafting and other eco-tourism opportunities.”
The Cagayan de Oro mixed-use district will begin operations in 2012 shortly after a similar self-contained complex in Davao City named Abreeza begins catering to residents, travelers, businessmen and professionals of Southern Mindanao.
AHRC vice-president and group head Junie Jalandoni said all three boutique hotels in Bonifacio Global City, Davao and Cagayan de Oro ‘cater to the new generation of travelers that put a premium on style, location, comfort and good prices in one complete package.”

MANILA -- Mindanao’s gateway city Cagayan de Oro will soon be home to a boutique hotel and posh shopping mall as AyalaLand Hotels and Resorts Corp. (AHRC) has jumpstarted the projects recently.
Set to be operational by 2012, the 150-room hotel is part of the 3.7-hectare mixed-use development area called Centrio.
The project is made feasible in partnership with the Floirendo-led Anflo Management and Investment Corp. (Anflocor), which has a stake in fruit export, real estate, hospitality and financing, among others.
AHRC said the shopping mall aims to address basic needs of the residents, as well as offering a fresh retail and entertainment concept for those who frequent the bustling city.
Initial investment is estimated at P2.5 billion for the mixed use land, which is expected to generate 10,000 jobs for Mindanao’s premiere economy.
“The hotel has been designed to offer a stylish and warm hotel experience. At the same time, it will provide easy and convenient access to restaurants, shops, cinemas and other retail outlets,” Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) vice president Al Legaspi said of the eight-storey boutique hotel.
Some of the amenities also include function and meeting rooms, an executive lounge, a business center, indoor and al fresco restaurant, a fitness gym and swimming pool. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)

I reflected back on the previous posts here, I noticed that there was a strange hole that was dug near graphics side and some foundations built. "Ah" I said, kato man di ang foundation platform where the crane is anchored. yun pala. hehe

Full blast construction can now be observed at Ayala’s Centrio Mall and Hotel project in Cagayan de Oro City which is slated to open next year.
Shown above is the vertical development near the southeast portion of the 3.7-hectare property, probably the lower sections of the Kukun Hotel. Clearly, the elevator shafts located at the center of the picture are being constructed first with other concrete and steel columns steadily rising in the background.
Interestingly, the project contractor is focusing the construction on the south end of the property. Then from the south, it will gradually shift to the central part then to the northern section along CM Recto Avenue. Construction materials and heavy equipment are seen at the project site.

Civil works are now also underway at the northwest portion where the anchor store will be located.

Kukun hotel's foundation is akin to the foundation of under construction LKK skyscraper hotel. ^^
Does it mean that the hotel's foundation is very big in preparation for hotel's vertical expansion once there is an increase of city's market in the future? ^^

If SM already bought the former Coke property along CM Recto corner Osmena Street, then SM might turn the almost 3 hectare or more than 3 hectare into another business park like Centrio considering the property is not too big. This trend is already happening in the cities of Manila and Cebu. Now the trend invades CdeO considering there's no big space anymore in CBD for a sprawling business park, while the market demand is very high. ^^

To include the portion you mentioned, that makes the whole Floirendo property 3.7 hectares. So the said portion is 5,000 square meters. Well most probably a condo or office tower will rise in the said vacant area since the concept of Centrio, as the name of the Ayala complex in CdeO, is akin to Abreeza where aside of high-end mall which is the certerpiece, there is BPO/IT office, hotel (Kukun), and residence (condo). :)

However, a mini-mall and condotel has been rumored to be built there... The developers are just waiting for the informal settlers to be relocated... :-)

Ayala Land plans posh mall for shoppers in Mindanao
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- The Ayala Land, Inc. joint-venture project now under construction in Cagayan de Oro has been described as a “regional mall” rather than the usual “strip center” shopping mall. The proposed mixed-use development combines the traditional shopping mall with amenities aimed at upscale consumers in progressive regional urban centers.
“We don’t aim at competing with existing shopping malls but rather present a ‘total lifestyle’ experience for the upper income niche market that integrates shopping with dining, leisure and entertainment,” said Emilio J. Tumbocon, senior vice-president, VisMin Group of Ayala Land.
Named Centrio, the project is a joint venture with Anflo Management and Investment Corp. and Mindanao Motors Corp, which own the 3.2-hectare property located at the heart of an emerging business district bounded by C.M. Recto Avenue, Corrales Avenue and Capt. Vicente Roa St. directly across Gaisano City Mall.
Mr. Tumbocon said the three-level mall, exclusive of one-level basement parking, will have a gross leasable area of approximately 70,000 square meters (sq. m.) and would have an anchor store, upscale signature brand boutiques, fashion forward brands, four cinemas, fine dining and fastfood chains with 100% backup power in consideration of the prevailing power situation in Mindanao.
Investment for the project was pegged at P4.5 billion with the inclusion of an eight-storey, 150-room “boutique” hotel to be operated by an Ayala Land subsidiary, with an option for a four-storey business process outsourcing hub building on top of the mall with a gross leasable area of 10,000 sq. m. and a residential condominium within the property.
The name “Centrio” denotes a convergence of various establishments located at the commercial heart of a city, company officials said.
Ayala Land is operating under three major brands -- Ayala Land Premier for the high-end segment, Alveo Land for the middle-income segment, and Avida Land for the “affordable” market. Economic housing unit Amaia Land is being marketed as a sub-brand of Avida Land. -- Michael D. Banos

Can we expect new projects in Indahag? Mid-class perhaps? What will be Centrio's anchor store? Will it be Rustan's? Is it part of the mall's GFA or will it be separate?

The name “Centrio” denotes a convergence of various establishments located at the commercial heart of a city, company officials said.

mCx2 March 28th, 2011, 05:45 PM Well, this Centrio looks grand and modern despite the size of land.Generally it's boxy, but the cladding is very clever. It will also look imposing as it is looming over this main city street.overall,it's a compact complex right smack in CDO central.
kenken94 March 28th, 2011, 05:56 PM ^^ There's always a difference at how Ayala's and SM's come up designs for a boxy mall. You can tell which "boxy" mall is upscale and which is not.
It is a trend, the two mall empires are deviating form their usual designs, Ayala now used a "box" type mall in Centrio and at the same time, SM unveiled their first "circular" mall in SM Nautilus. And both are also evolving, Ayala's malls are improving further in green landscaping of al fresco strips and also SM Nautilus is adopting the Ayala style landscaping of al fresco's developing a new ambiance that will give us the cosmopolitan slash paradise feel. Robinsons are yet to prove their worth and so does to other mall developer but in general SM ana Ayala are leading the pack. ;)

boju2 April 5th, 2011, 04:18 PM I can imagine a boulevard-like feel between the stretch of these two acacia trees.... i wonder what kind of floor/tile works they're going to use... if they'd use cobblestone along this "boulevard" it would feel "Europish!" Indeed Home of Fashion! As the saying goes, you can't judge the book by its cover... as for Centrio, you can't judge a mall by it's (boxy) structure. lolz...
nice line there bai @motty
thelitroboy April 5th, 2011, 06:56 PM regardless of the design whether its boxy or curvy, high rise or low rise, steel railings or glass railings, ethnic or modern. hiwi or not. ayala malls have one common design... its their canopy's or whatever you call. its quite simple but classy. notice sa acc terraces.. kanang naay elevators? mao na ako pasabot.. you can actually see it sa greenbelt, marquee, acc and other ayala malls... dili palang maklaro sa abreeza kay la pa man nahuman... :)

Yeah! The building is big for the LED screen, which will be an attraction too aside of the crown and two acacia trees plus the palm trees.
TONZI April 6th, 2011, 05:47 AM Centrio may be boxy but one has to notice the retro-ish details..it's not like other malls nga as in "literal" shoe box design... sometimes people tend to call Centrio's design as "literal box" when in fact, it has the shape of the box but there are details that need to be look into.
And by the way, comparisons shouldn't be made bcoz afterall malls are made not for the design but for the actual use of it. Are we going to malls just because they are nicely designed or because we really go there to shop? Or unless some people just go there to make use of the "airconditioned hallways" to stand by and waste time?

Korek! IMHO, it just looks "boxy" because the planners wanted to maximize the GFA. Though, I would have wanted it to have a non-conventional shape, I would not mind it's final outcome. Even the largest mall here in greater NYC has that "boxy" appearance.
FrancisXavier April 6th, 2011, 04:02 PM yeah..most of the malls wherever you go are boxy anyways.... daanin nlng nila sa exterior details.. :D :D

dili man tingali nila potlon kay hangtod karon wala paman gipangpotol. we have reason to believe that those trees will be preserved and utilized after the mall is completed.

Taegon April 11th, 2011, 06:23 AM Well, I don't find wrong with their posts. If they like "europish style," then I respect their preference. You can't call a person imperialistic if he/she doen't prefer "ethnic style." :)
TONZI April 11th, 2011, 07:01 AM IMO, we can't say that because dili ta ganahan ibutang ang ethnic og cultural nga design sa sulod sa mall, dili pud gi value ang cultural heritage sa atong mga ninuno. Malls, especially with globalization, are most of the time not mixed with cultural designs. Let us just say it's not only not crowd drawing, it also negates the psychology of business enterprise--you know, what colors make consumers to shop, eat, or buy something. Mall operators know how psychology of these things affect the preference of consumers. Another thing is the color...most of our ethnic groups always have the red or dark blue or black, if we put those colors on our malls, ambot lang..dili nako ma-imagine kung unsay outcome.
@allenation, If you would ask @waway kay architect man to siya...maybe he can explain to you why dili kaayo ma-incorporate ang ethnic designs sa mall specifically kaning atong mga Mindanaoan tribes.
As for me lang ha, that is why, I would say, that those ethnic designs should not be incorporated in anyway to the interiors or any aspect of a mall.
Maybe in building cultural centers, muli-purpose halls, or coliseums, we can...but malls? expect it to be "langawin"...walang papasok dun, and it's not crowd drawing for the human eye..

Personally, I dont see why dili..Dili man kinahanglan i literal ang pagka "ethnic", depende man na sa function sa building. You can always infuse ethnic elements through accents and pwede pud ethnic with a modern twist..It can be a challenge unsaon pag buhat but it can be done just like how Greenbelt 5 is supposed to be Filipino architecture inspired.
for Abreeza, I read Davao's Ann Pamintuan's works will be used..

GREENBELT 5
Ayala Land, Inc.
Best of the Philippines
The latest addition to Ayala Land's award winning Greenbelt collection, Greenbelt 5 celebrates the modern flavor of Filipino architecture, lifestyle and culture while staying true to the company's commitment to sustainability. Taking a targeted approach to attracting local residents and families, the retail mix spans from local fashion and accessory designers to prominent international brands such as Paul Smith and Escada. On the second floor, the Youth Zone features an active lifestyle center, complemented by a Family Zone, fitness center and spa on the upper levels.
Even Beijing's new international airport is very modern but with chinese architectural inspiration...depende lang sa pag interpret ng designer yan..You dont have to take it too literally :) Alangan naman mala torrogan ang itsura ng Mall para maging Mindanao ethnic

WawaY[625] April 11th, 2011, 01:37 PM Bai, if its your call, how would you incorporate ethnic/minority group inspiration to a mall's design? :-)
Off the top of my head I would still make it generally contemporary tapos I will infuse modern ethnic works like that of Ann Pamintuan's furniture and perhaps sa treatment ng accent walls and accent lighting fixtures..Subtle lang gud pagpa infuse sa ethnic..enough para ma appreciate sa mga visitors pero dili pud sobra nga murag pinugos ug gi literal jud. Of course initial ra ni nga interpretation
TONZI April 11th, 2011, 02:17 PM Incorporating such ethnic design can be very challenging. In the end, mag contemporaneous gihapon ta and then basically removing some of the basic facets of some ethnically inspired designs..so, it's just practically the same thing as not really trying to represent a certain cultural aspect at all di ba? As for me, malls in particular, wala pa gyud ko kakita og design nga ethnically inclined to a certain cultural minority. I am just speaking about most of the cultural minorities diri sa Mindanao...lisod gyud og dili kaayo ma-incorporate sa modernistic og commercialism as well as globalization.
In a certain point, for me, malls alone should be modernistic. Pwede siguro mag touch sa broader cultural aspect such as Asian or more western or japanese but not in a way to a more specific such as Higaunon, Bukidnon, Maranao or Tausug nga ethnic culture kay murag lisod gyud lalo na kung Mindanaoan ang gi-istoryahan. Just my opinion..
WawaY[625] April 11th, 2011, 02:23 PM ^^ Like I said, its challenging but its worth trying especially nga rich ang cultural heritage sa Mindanao.Sayang pud if dili sya I consider. If they were able to do it sa Greenbelt 5, why not sa Mindanao diba? Unless of course set na imong mind nga pag malls kay contemporary jud for whatever reasons or agenda then yes dili jud pwede
WawaY[625] April 11th, 2011, 05:14 PM Malls, IMO, are better if they look modern... If you need to incorporate something from our rich heritage, it should not be to the point na mawala ang modern-look sa mall... Accents lang ba... Murag di kaayo appealing if ethnic gyud ang dating sa mall... Opinion lang nako na, k? :-)
which is what I was suggesting earlier, nga sama sa Greenbelt 5 na filipino architecture with a modern twist, dili dapat literalon pagsabot nga ethnic jud ang design but more on ethnic inspired.
Why would tourist from US come to CDO to go shopping at SM, LKK,or CENTRIO
True, but then mamakita man jud ka ug westerners sa malls..So it doesnt hurt if dili generic design ilang makit-an. :)
Mind you, mas ma appreciate na kung sinaw, hayag, or glassy.
True, especially sa mga lay-man kaayo ang taste ..Most likely the same peeps who would appreciate SM MoA over Greenbelt  But then again, naa pud reason why dili tanan malls mala Greenbelt ang design diba?
Anyway, kadaghan pa explanation oi nga kabalo na man ta sa reason behind your resistance against the concept.. Basta mao lang ni ako-a, if Greenbelt 5 received accolades for having a modern filipino theme why, pray tell, are some people cynical about a Mindanaoan mall having Mindanao inspired design?
KING CITY April 11th, 2011, 06:14 PM Modern siguro kaayo ang Centrio.kagayanon inspired mall:D:D

uhuh.. CDO would have had a Greenbelt-like mall long ago if i disagree. I've only been to GB5 twice or thrice, but i really couldn't see which one is ethnic in it. All i could notice was contemporary yet classy in the design. Im not an arki but does it have to look ethnic to sport a filipino theme?

maypaka nakabalo..ako wa jud ko kabalo until now why i prefer laguindingan Airport's design that way instead of having a mindanaoan inspired roofed as you suggest before. wa pod ko kabalo why i like ILO's interior way way better than BCD's.
People have different tastes. One may have same preference as you, one may not. One may want it modern kaamulan theme, one may simply want it modern/futuristic. And not because GB5 receives lots of praises as you claim, everyone should like to have the same back home, again, differences... It's not about what others think, but about what we think. At the end of the day we are the one's who would be patronizing the mall and not the GB aficionados. But again, where the H is ethnic in GB? :D i even like CENTRIO that way. contemporary, modern, consistent. my 2 cents.
allenation April 11th, 2011, 10:28 PM dili ko arki. pero based sa post sa uban, dili b makahatag ug something "new" sa mga mallers if makita nila ang design is very unique unlike sa ubang mga common malls? kada mall naa man jud iya iya nga identity thus kaning abreeza would be the uniquest mall sa mindanao ky dili ingon ana ka sayon i-infused ang ethnic design sa modern labi na ug mall pa. lisod mn gud ug mag comment comment ta sa possiblity nga langawon ang mall pero kung tan-awon pud nimo ang interiors nya, tsada tan-awon. mostly baya sa atong mga malls tody kay naay touched nga western design. having a ethnic/mindanaoan design is like giving our tourist a unique way of shopping ambiance. naay sariling identity.dili unusual. dili common.. bah kung langawon ra diay ang abreeza tungod sa iyang mindanaoan inspired design, dili na lang mangabre..diba?pero i doubt it na langawon. the mall itself is a one way of showing our rich heritage ug buhi pa kaayo inspite sa modern ng panahon.:)

Ayala Land plans posh mall for shoppers in Mindanao (http://www.bworldonline.com/content.php?title=Ayala%20Land%20plans%20posh%20mall%20for%20shoppers%20in%20Mindanao&id=28511)
Banos
