Some information on the tower:

February 23, 2004

Since it converted 45 Wall Street from an office building to a residential high rise in 1997, family-owned and -operated Rockrose Development has been investing in Lower Manhattan's "24-hour live/work/play community." The company is now building a 51-story residential tower at 2 Gold Street, where two smaller office buildings once stood.

The 2 Gold Building will bring 650 luxury rental apartments to the historic Financial District. A public plaza will surround the foot of the tower, and tower residents will also have access to on-site parking, a fitness center, and a 2,000-square-foot rooftop solarium.

Already a highly residential neighborhood -- with nearly 7,500 total residents anticipated by 2005 -- the immediate area surrounding 2 Gold Street was once known as "Golden Hill" for the golden wheat originally planted there by the 18th century Dutch. With a new streetscape, 23,000 square feet of new retail space, and an arts center currently being planned for Gold Street, Golden Hill is poised for an urban revival.

The 2 Gold Street tower is slated to open February 2005.

I just found out there already was an existing thread, so I'm moving mine here:

Just adjacent to 10 Liberty Plaza, I'm still astonished people can build so high in Downtown NYC!

Yep, financial district. 165 meters, 543 feet, http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=182542

Not the greatest tower but I'd say that it's good filler. :)

Gotta love the massiveness, goes along with the traditional Downtown style.

Good location. Reminds us of the scale of the big downtown core towers - they're friggin huge! also adds some nice density to the district along with 10 Liberty. Btw savethewtc once again, thanx for my pix!

i personally find this building to be bland, and seems lacking of a good facade design compared to other residential buildings.

still, it's a good building for a gap filler (it's like the facade design's sole purpose). they need buildings between the building wall on water st and chase manhattan plaza, and this one and 10 liberty place are doing just that. i hope more buildings can fill in any big gaps remaining in downtown south of fulton st.

it's a good filler, that's for sure, as for the building itself, I believe it's pretty good, the only problem is that it's too massive, rather too tall, and the top is too square, makes me think of those gangsters on that Triplets of Belleville movie :D

I actually think it's too short and the scale is, like, too small. Still, I would take a new 50+ story tower, esp in the Downtown, any day.
