is this suburban sprawl a sign of things to come or is it just in Hokkido where there is more land than the rest of Japan. Looks like the americans have influenced you. Should be dense like Japan is famed for. Please tell me this isn't happening everywhere

 why "oh dear"? LOL it looks nice.. if there is more new land build into the sea, then maybe even alot of cities in Honshu may sprout neighbourhood developments like this :D nice

Its been happening all over Japan since WW2.

This area will become dense in time.Once the population increases the houses will turn into Appartments and so on and on it will go.

The only areas of Japan that have any real character are the Pre WW2 towns and cities.About 80 percent of the built up area

Looks like an American suburb. Is this really being developed?

Japan's population is not growing and will start to decrease... do you think rural->urban immigration and foreign immigration would be significant enough to actually continue the creation of concrete jungles accross Japan? I personally don't think so.

It doesn't look like any American-style sprawl because of its grid pattern. A sprawl in North America is usually defined as "a bunch of houses with curvy roads."

Those houses should be farmland or something so Japan does not have to import during am economic crisis/climate change!

Yeah.I agree.Very good point.

However in the bigger cities where immigration from the smaller provincial cities will continue for some time, this type of urban growth will contiue. Its happing in the 'bed towns' of Shiga and Hyogo near Osaka and im sure in areas around Gumma,Toichi,Chiba and even Ibaraiki near the Tokyo
