The Pino Seafoods Restaurant in Tacloban City has brought dining experience to the mall, where diners can enjoy good, delicious food whether they are eating alone or with the barkada, having lunch after shopping, or dining out with the family or with a date.

Pino Seafoods Restaurant, which boasts of having the best baked scallop in town, offers an array of delectable Filipino and Spanish cuisine at affordable prices. It boasts of a "seafood market" section where customers can chose and order fresh fish and seashells, and then have them cooked the way they want it, like into tinola (stewed fish), sinugba (grilled) or kinilaw (raw fish).

The "seafood market" offers different kinds of fresh fish such as lapulapu, tonto, blue marlin, tangigue, mamsa, danggit, and others. Also available Are fresh squids, shrimps and seashells including scallops, says Carlyn S. Maraya, the OIC of the Tacloban branch of Pino Seafoods Restaurant.

Maraya, a graduate of BS in Nutrition and Dietetics, says she assists costumers with health problems in choosing the right healthy food.
Open from 10 a.m. to 12 midnight and located in the ground floor of Robinsons Place in Tacloban City, the Pino Seafoods Restaurant also serves popular Filipino dishes such as kaldereta, bistek Tagalog, kare-kare, sisig, dinuguan, chicken pork adobo, sugpo sa gata and crispy pata.

Pino also offers favorite Filipino vegetable dishes such as Bicol express, laing, tortang talong, pinakbet and adobong kangkong. It also serves hot soups like bulalo, sinigang, tinola na manok, and chicken binacol. For noodle lovers, the restaurant has pancit luglug, bam-i, pancit canton, and sotanghon.

With the array of dishes it serves, no wonder that Pino Seafoods Restaurant has become a popular dining place, not only for mall-goers and locals but also for celebrities including foreigners like the Air Supply.

Celebrities like Bong Revilla, Richard Gomez, Jessa Zaragosa, Aljur Abrenica, the B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados basketball team including team manager Alvin Patrimonio and ace player James Yap, the popular singing group Sponge Cola and the Marcos family, including Madame Imelda, Mayor Alfred and his wife Councilor Kringkring, have been, at one time or another, customers of the Pino Seafoods Restaurant in Tacloban City.

Maraya recalls that when they visited the restaurant, Gov. Imee Marcos loved their kinilaw, while Rep. Lucy Torres adored their halo-halo.

She emphasizes though that celebrities and the other costumers enjoy the same professional service, good ambience and delectable foods that the Pino Seafoods Restaurant is proud of.

According to Maraya, the place, which can accommodate 80 to 100 customers at one time, also has tables and chairs at the patio where customers can enjoy their beer and beverages while listening to the music of a local acoustic band, which plays classical and popular music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.

The Pino Seafoods Restaurant in Tacloban City the restaurant of celebrities is one of the five branches of the Pino Cuisine and Restaurant. It also has three branches in Cebu City and one in Davao City.

Welcome Year of the Rabbit

TACLOBAN CITY – The Tacloban Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Inc. (TFCCCI) spearheads the celebration of the Spring Festival popularly known as the Chinese New Year. The celebration which marks the first in the city, will be held at the Balyuan Convention Center at 7 o’clock in the evening.

Go Tic Ching, president of the TFCCCI said “I will be joined by the other officers of the chamber in entertaining our guests, TFCCCI members and their families. This is the first time we are celebrating together with the community. Expect fun, camaraderie, lion dance, dinner will be served in lauriat with special Chinese dishes. There will be exciting raffle prizes too. Some officers and members will render special song numbers. The flying of sky lanterns with our friends’ wishes on it, will play a big part of the event. At the same time, there will be fireworks. We just hope and pray for a good weather and a starry night.”

According to astrologers, this is a more placid year compared to the ferocious year of the Tiger. The party ushers in the Year of the Golden Rabbit. “There are big celebrations to welcome the new year. Our federation, the Federation of the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry together with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other big Chinese community with the City of Manila had a grandiose celebration in Quirino grandstand last night” said Ching.

“There will be simple program. The important thing is, we come together to have fun and be united as a community. We at the chamber , wish our Chinese and Pinoy brothers and sisters the best of what the Year of the Rabbit promises. May we be as charismatic, thoughtful, gentle, calm and collected as the Rabbit in facing the challenges ahead of us” are the wishes Ching wants to convey for everyone.”

This year the Chinese New Year commences February 3 and culminates in the Lantern Festival on the full Moon 15 days later which falls on February 18.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) reminded local government units (LGUs) to observe the agency's "full disclosure program" that started back in August, even it lauded the LGUs who have already complied with its requirements.

Interior Sec. Jesse Robredo said that five months since the order came out, only 227 LGUs or 13 percent have so far abided by the policy: 10 provinces, 25 cities, and 192 municipalities—out of the country's 1,714 LGUs.

Under the program, local chief executives are required to post their financial transactions and expenditures in conspicuous places in their localities and on their respective government websites. (See: Robredo to LGUs: Post transaction reports in public places)

“These [compliant] LGUs are exemplars of the kind of government that we want to have, one that upholds transparency and accountability in all its dealings," Robredo said in a statement.

The provincial governments that have already complied are those of Capiz, Negros Occidental, Aklan, Iloilo, Siquijor, Biliran, Sarangani, Cotabato, Agusan del Sur, and Surigao del Sur.

Meanwhile, the 25 city governments that have started implementing the full disclosure program are those of:Cadiz, Escalante, Himamaylan, Kabankalan, La Carlota, Sagay, San Carlos, Sipalay, Talisay, Bacolod, Iloilo, Passi, Roxas, Silay, Victorias (Region VI); Cebu, Tanjay, Bais (Region VII); Tacloban and Ormoc (Region VIII); Cagayan de Oro (Region X); Cotabato, General Santos, Kidapawan (Region XII); Butuan (Region XIII); and Baguio City (CAR).Robredo reminded those who have not complied yet to do so, stressing that such a disclosure is already mandatory under the General Appropriations Act.

The secretary warned non-compliant local officials against possibly facing administrative sanction for gross negligence or dereliction of duty under Section 60 of the Local Government Code of 1991.

Just the same, Robredo said he was still "optimistic" that other LGUs would soon make their transactions and expenditures available to the public.

He said he would be making the rounds in various local government offices to monitor their compliance.

Hindi na siya nagbigay ng ibang info about this pero when I asked him about the rendering he said he will show it to me as soon as its done. :D Another big investment for Tacloban. :cheers:

Urban Area of the city is not even 1/3 of it's total land area just take a look at the Northern Tacloban district... one thing that will really increase more Tacloban's economic growth is a Long Term Goal planning,... like constructing more well organized roads (where Bigger businesses will soon rise), cheap & abundant water and electricity(to attract investors specially in the North)... that Pres. Osmeña blvd. is a good start... sabayan pa han Terminal :okay:

During the first lunar month each year, Chinese people celebrate the Lamp Festival. Here in Tacloban City, the first Lamp Festival was held at the Balyuan Park during the Spring Festival and Social Gathering sponsored by the Tacloban Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Inc. (TFCCCI).

The Lamp Festival dates back to a time in Chinese history when its emperors were trying to spread the practice of Buddhism. On the 15th day of the first lunar month, Buddhist monks would light lanterns to honor the Buddha. During the 1st century A.D., the emperors of the Han Dynasty prompted the people to hang lit lanterns outside their homes. The people didnt initially embrace the practice, but over the centuries it has grown and evolved a great deal.

One of the staples of the Chinese Lantern Festival is the Dragon Dance. Like the festival itself, the Dragon Dance dates back to the Han Dynasty and is an important symbol of the new year. The recommended length of a dragon is 112 feet and takes nine people to manipulate, but they can be much longer. The dragon is an important symbol in Chinese culture, and represents such things as power and courage.

During the Lamp Festival in Tacloban City, Chinese businessmen lighted their lanterns with a wish of disaster-prevention and longevity.

According to the Tacloban Buddhist Temple, Inc., lamp is one of the 10 offerings during Chinese New Year. They said it is a sign of brilliance and intelligence and offering lamp to Buddha will provide endless intellect.

The Lamp Festival had various types of offerings: Lamp of Brightness-offered by those who wanted brighter future; Lamp of Taisui-offered by those who offended Taiui; Lamp of Safety-offered by those who got distant relatives; Lamp of Career-offered by those who seeks success in career; Lamp of Health-offered by those who needs good health; Lamp of Wisdom-offered by those who wishes to pass a exam; Lamp of Longevity-offered by those who aims to have a long life.

The Chinese believes that if they continuously offer lamp to Buddha, they shall receive brilliance and intelligence, good health, ability to see things thoroughly and not get fooled, freedom, abundant wealth, blessings from Buddha, safety and luck, granted wishes, disasters prevented and obstacles eliminated. Mayor Romualdez thanks TFCCCI for helping city attain progress and development

TACLOBAN CITY - The Chief Executive, Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez, personally thanked the members of the Tacloban Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Incorporated (TFCCCI) for the contribution that they have imparted to the progress and development of the city.

According to Mayor Romualdez, it is an honor for the city government that they were able to join the Chinese New Year celebration known as Kung Hei Huat Tsai.

The chief executive then expressed his assurance to the Filipino-Chinese community that he is looking forward for more activity, challenges and programs wherein they can work together.

"I am happy that the city government had given the opportunity to participate in this event, and I promise that on my term being the city mayor of Tacloban, this Balyuan Convention Center would always be open as the venue of the yearly Chinese New year conduct," Romualdez said.

Mayor Romualdez pointed out that celebration like New Year is just one of the important occasions that need to be celebrated and pay for attention.

"There are many celebrations conducted by different groups or church that has to be celebrated that intends to remind them of their origin, as well as give them the vision towards their destination," the official stressed.

To recall, the business group of TFCCCI has extended a lot of projects that are intended for the improvement not only by the community living in Tacloban, but for the development of the city as a whole.

Recently, they have constructed several schools at some barangays of Tacloban just like the recently inaugurated two storey building at Cabalawan District.

Aside from the schools that were constructed by the said group, they also have contributed financial matters during the heavy downpour of rain water that made flooding at several area here and the alarming occurrence of dengue in which the city has been among the top affected places not only in the region, but almost the entire country as well.

It could also be seen that TFCCCI here has also their volunteer fire brigade that is ready to help the community in case of fire incidents. (REY GERILLA GRADO)

Tacloban Fil-Chinese chamber celebrates New Year in Balyuan

TACLOBAN CITY- The Tacloban Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the first time celebrated the Chinese New Year at Balyuan Convention Center Friday night.

Chamber President Jack Uy expressed his gratitude to Tacloban City Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez for allowing them to use as their venue yesterday for the celebration the Balyuan Convention Center.

Uy added that he was also thankful for the mayor for gracing the event together with his wife City Councilor Cristina Gonzales- Romualdez.

In his welcome remarks, Uy said this year, their chamber will make it sure that prosperity and goodness will be contributed by theFil-Chinese community in the city.

On the part of the chief executive, he said there is really a need to celebrate Chinese New Year in the city to give thanks for all the blessings we receive from the Almighty and be hopeful for a whole year blessings.

Mayor Romualdez also announces that he will allow the celebration to be conducted in the city every year.

"For as long as I am the Mayor of this city, Ill make it sure that the chamber can utilize the Balyuan Convention Center for the said celebration every year and many other programs and projects in coordination with the city government be initiated here," Mayor Romualdez assured.

Highlights of the events were the lantern lighting with various color which wishes of all those presents were written on it, the exemplary dragon dance show, and fireworks, which were done outside the Balyuan Convention Center o known as mugs park.

12 different dishes were also served in every table during the dinner.

A raffle draw was also conducted wherein six members of the media luckily received cash prices enclosed in the red Chinese envelope are the various new Philippine peso bills. (EDEN BENUSA)

Government-private partnership... example, the LGU will invite the BPO company to our city and show some resources... too provide workers the LGU must have a Call center training program and not just that there are many People in Tacloban who are capable of working on the call center (could also attract more companies)... and also we have to give the firm a good location and area for the said business (which we have a lot)... and beside Labor force in Tacloban is actually High so we have a big potential for that industry...

Per Sorensen is of course Fra Lippo Lippi and nothing could dissociate him from this fact - especially because he was the lead vocalist and songwriter of the group. He wrote the songs that became such big hits they catapulted the Norwegian new wave band Fra Lippo Lippi to fame and international renown.

Sorensen is coming over once more for a series of shows this Valentine season. the pictures don't indicate a 2 story structure. this may well be a 4 or 5 stories. a cinema and hotel in one story? i doubt it... i'm curious why there is no billboard rendering and the building is already under construction. the building code specifically requires this on the jobsite, together with the building permit information.
