Green Arrow June 16th, 2011, 10:33 PM http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/8239/mot5.jpg Green Arrow June 16th, 2011, 10:35 PM Welcome to the Road Trek Number 7, such a lovely place. By Dong Magsajo (The Philippine Star) Updated June 08, 2011 12:00 AM Comments (0) The Gang: Toyota’s annual Road Trek pits media outfits from all over against each other in friendly competition. Here, the entire contingent poses in front of the MacArthur Landing Memorial Shrine. | Zoom MANILA, Philippines - Toyota Motor Philippines’ (TMP) annual Road Trek is perhaps the most awaited media-related event of the auto industry – with good reason. During the annual staging, the local market leader takes the opportunity to do three things… First, TMP uses the Road Trek to make important and relevant announcements. Second, TMP uses the Road Trek to pit media outfits’ wits and brawn against in other in friendly “Amazing Race” type competition. And they do it at such a large scale that almost every single media outfit has representation in the competition – which makes the bragging rights all the more important to the Road Trek’s participants. Finally, TMP uses the Road Trek to, in TMP president Michinobu Sugata’s own words, “renew the bonds of friendship and camaraderie among our friends in the media”. This year’s staging – the 7th – was used by TMP to stress their commitment to their customers in the Philippines. Sugata himself revealed that TMP’s production schedule – hampered by the effects of the twin earthquake and tsunami disasters of March 11 – is set to return to its normal five-day, two-shift work week starting this month – much earlier than expected. “Our commitment to our customers remains our top priority. We will continue our efforts to deliver vehicles to customers at the soonest possible time,” Sugata said. Welcome news for Toyota customers, indeed. This year’s Road Trek started off in Tacloban, Leyte. Our huge contingent drove through some 200 kilometers of the province, and our little sub-groups – divided amongst media outfits – participated in a total of four activities. The Philippine STAR has figured prominently in the friendly competition since the Road Trek tradition started and this year was no different as we once again made it into the winner’s circle. However, perhaps our sweetest reward was the fact that we finally got to drive through the famous San Juanico Bridge and visit significant historical landmarks such as the MacArthur Landing Memorial Shrine, the Sto. Niño Shrine as well as the picturesque Rafael Farm. To cap off Road Trek 7, Sugata himself spearheaded the “renewing of the bonds of friendship and camaraderie” by first welcoming the entire contingent to our eventual destination – the Shangri-la Mactan Resort and Spa in Cebu on the evening of our first day, then by playing a round of golf with those amongst us who were in to the sport the morning of the next day, then finally by engaging everyone in a singing spree with local rock band Pandora later that evening. Lexus Manila president Danny Isla and Sugata himself got the ball rolling with their version of The Beatles’ Come Together. The very convivial TMP president would eventually sing his signature Hotel California rendition, but not before leading many of us in attendance into sharing our hidden talents as well. At the end of the day, Road Trek 7 proved to be just as eventful and as unforgettable as the rest of the previous stagings of Road Trek exactly because the message delivered and the goals set forth continue to be relevant and timely. Whether we’re driving a Prius, Vios, Innova, Fortuner, Hilux, Camry or Altis… and whether we trek through key places in Luzon, Visayas or Mindanao, this is one Road Trek worth taking, year in and year out… source: Philstar thebattlecry June 16th, 2011, 11:53 PM Hi Guys! The competition dubbed as “The Sangyaw Challenge” is open to all Jet ski enthusiasts in the following classes: Novice 2 Stroke Class, Novice 4 Stroke Class, Expert Stock Class, Expert Open Class, Executive Class (riders with age not lower than 35 years old), Stand Up Class, and Women’s Stock Class. An endurance race that will run for an hour in 2 strokes and 4 strokes are the highlight of the tournament. Cash prizes and trophies await all successful contenders, not to mention a chance to experience the beauty of Tacloban and the festivities lined up for the month of June. Racers need not worry since subsidy for shipping will be provided if necessary and a boom truck is available for unloading of the skis. Jet ski is part water skiing device and part speedboat, which runs like a motorcycle during operation. Instead of the traditional propeller or screw motor, it uses an enclosed gas-powered motor to literally push water out in a jet stream. Mayor Alfred Romualdez, a known jet ski enthusiast, is spearheading this event to promote the sport in the region, in cooperation with Globe, Scanmarine Inc. and Unilab. In an extensive survey conducted by the Asian Institute of Management Policy Center and released in July 2010, Tacloban City was ranked among the top ten most competitive cities in the Philippines. Tacloban ranked fifth overall, and second in the emerging cities category. No official data has been released by the Asian Institute of Management regarding its ranking as the fifth among the top ten competitive cities in the Philippines. A number of inhumane and indecent practices still prevail in this city, like; pedestrians being harassed by the erring traffic aides of the city hall just because they need to fund their expenses by simply creating an anti-pedestrian policy, the strict use of helmets within the city limits when riding a motorcycle, and the uncontrolled pricing of the cabs which the city government tolerates.. This involves the practice of harassing unknowing outsiders just because they don't use the pedestrian lane when crossing the streets. More office space that can be built in existing commercial centers will cater to increasing demand from continuous expansion of business process outsourcing (BPO) firms in the country, the company said in a statement yesterday. “Robinsons Land has three mall-based BPO properties ready for occupancy at Otis in Manila, Tarlac City and Davao City,” the property firm said. “The three malls have a total of more than 21,000 sq. m. available for office where tenants can enjoy the convenience of shopping and dining as well as the benefits of Philippine Economic Zone Authority zone incentives,” it added. Robinsons Otis is offering three levels of office space with a total leasable area of 10,900 sq. m. The leasing space, which is within the University Belt that is composed of more than 40 colleges and universities, will allow firms to easily hire new employees. For its part, Robinsons Luisita in Tarlac City has 5,310 sq. m. of available space on two levels that are also ideal for the BPO sector. “Strategically located and accessible via the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway and McArthur Highway, it is the only commercial center with BPO space in Tarlac City,” Robinsons Land said. Furthermore, Robinsons Cybergate Davao has allotted 5,200 sq. m. of leasable office space. “Other than Metro Manila, Davao City is the only city in the country with a population of over a million,” the property developer said. Davao also scored the highest among the top 10 “Next Wave Cities” for BPOs outside Metro Manila, data from the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPA/P) show. Moving forward, the property developer aims to expand its portfolio by setting up new BPO office leasing space in other existing malls. Robinsons Land said “numerous Robinsons complexes nationwide are also ideal settings for build-to-suit BPO buildings.” In Visayas, the Gokongwei-led firm can develop BPO offices in Robinsons Place Tacloban, Dumaguete, Bacolod and Iloilo, which are large shopping centers in the region. “Ample spaces within these complexes will address the desire of companies to have their own office building designed according to their preferences and needs,” Robinsons Land said. BPO office space in shopping malls will add inventory to Robinsons Land, which is building the Cyberscape Alpha and Cyberscape Beta buildings in Ortigas Center that will have 80,000 sq. m. of office space and will cost P4 billion. Cyberscape Alpha will be composed of 23 storeys while Cyberscape Beta will be at 36 storeys. Both towers that will cater to the BPO sector are located at the Ortigas central business district. As of end-2010, the local BPO industry employs 525,000 skilled workers, data from the Contact Center Association of the Philippines and BPA/P show. The new projects will bring the total number of office buildings of the company in Ortigas Center to four. Robinsons Land, the property arm of listed JG Summit Holdings, Inc., is into shopping malls, hotels and office space leasing. Its January to March earnings reached P1.02 billion, up from P927.25 million in the previous year. The latest figures brought net income for the first half of its fiscal year that will end in September to P2.04 billion, up by 13% from P1.8 billion year on year. Shares in the property developer sank by 4.44% or 52 centavos to P11.18 apiece on Friday. ^^sana nga thebattlecry June 20th, 2011, 03:04 AM The Ro-Ro ports project one more time By: Neal H. Cruz Philippine Daily Inquirer 5:19 am | Monday, June 20th, 2011 Despite the fact that Ro-Ro ports are needed by a maritime country such as the Philippines, Filipino contractors are opposing a contract between the Philippine government and a French corporation to put up modular steel adjustable Ro-Ro ports on 72 islands in the archipelago. Why? Because the contractors want to build the ports themselves out of concrete. The whole project will cost several billion pesos so you can understand why the contractors want our government to cancel a contract and re-award the contract to them. Ro-Ro ports are needed by the Ro-Ro (roll-on, roll off) vessels that make the loading and unloading of cargo so much easier and faster. In the traditional sea vessels, gangs of stevedores spend many hours and days trudging up and down gangplanks to carry off or into the holds of the vessels sacks of produce. With a Ro-Ro, the front of the vessel is simply lowered and trucks loaded with cargo drive into and out of the vessel’s hold. It takes only minutes to do this. Thus, the vessels and the businessmen save precious time—and money. The Ro-Ro was adapted for peacetime use from the World War II landing craft that delivered tanks, bulldozers, trucks, jeeps and troops from the invasion ships out at sea to the landing beaches. Because of the different levels of the sea at different times of the day, depending on the tides dictated by the phases of the moon, the Ro-Ro needs ports with adjustable landing piers so that the trucks can drive off as soon as the Ro-Ro arrives. Without such an adjustable pier and if the Ro-Ro arrives when the tide is either too high or too low, it will have to wait until the tide reaches the right level, thus wasting precious time, before it can disgorge its cargo trucks or load them. Luckily, a French corporation has the technology for producing modular steel ports with landing piers that can be raised or lowered to the level of the ship as needed. It is made of steel good for at least 85 years. Moreover, it can be moved from port to port, so it can be transferred where it is needed. Better still, the French bank, BNP Paribas, agreed to extend a loan for the project. The project was studied and reviewed by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), the National Economic Development Authority (Neda), the Department of Transportation and Communications (DoTC) and other government agencies, and was approved. The Philippines has already paid 15 percent of the contract price and the French corporation has already finished fabricating more than half of the required steel ports, which are now ready for delivery to the Philippines. In the middle of all that, a committee composed of representatives from the DoTC, PPA and Marina recommended the cancellation of the contract, saying it is overpriced. The Neda came back with a rejoinder that it was a good project, inexpensively priced and should be continued. Undersecretary Ruben Reinoso, a former Neda assistant director general, was castigated for airing opinion contrary to that of the PPA-DoTC-Marina committee. Reinoso was chastised for “a crude attempt to unilaterally dictate policy.” Why? For airing an opinion based on facts? The committee said that the project was overpriced, and that PPA could get ports built at P40 million to P50 million each. Reinoso said this was not a fair “apples to apples” comparison. In reality, three examples of PPA port projects are grossly overpriced, ranging from P400 million (Macabalan, Cagayan de Oro) to P86 million plus P397 million (Tacloban Port renovation), to P715 million (Pulupandan wharf). In comparison, French modular Ro-Ro ports cost only P143 million each, payable in 15 years, equivalent to P83 million in today’s value. Reinoso was also chastised for stating that “there will be dire consequences if the contract is cancelled.” Of course there will be. Cancelling the contract will harm our relations with the French. It will, along with Fraport (the German builder of Naia 3), Baggerwerken Decloedt en Zoon (the Belgian firm with a contract with the Laguna Lake Development Authority to dredge Laguna Lake) and Metro Pacific (Hong Kong), will give us a reputation in the international community that we are not a trustworthy partner. This is bad timing. According to UNCTAD Data, Global and Regional FDI trends in 2010 to 2011, 53 percent of FDI inflows are slated for developing and transitioning economies. It is a bad thing because it would dampen the attraction of the second “P” in PPP, aka the “Private” component in infrastructure investment. And if one believes that infrastructure is about the socio-economic development it brings to the people, and not the project—be it a bridge, highway, or port—then that is a true disservice to the constituency that the Aquino administration serves. Reinoso was also castigated for stating that “the project was already underway when the review was ordered.” But the project was approved by Neda-ICC and the loan agreement was declared in effect in November 2009. The 15 percent down payment was made 60 days later. In all fairness, Reinoso qualified that all statements were made to show that the department was seeking the best options for the Philippine government. “We are still studying it, so I said, look at what are the consequences, and what would be in the best interest of the Philippines.” As for the allegation that Philippine-made concrete ports are cheaper than the French Modular steel ports (P50 million for each concrete port as against P83 million for each steel port), note that all Philippine infrastructure projects are never finished at the original cost estimate. They are finished at much higher costs, as the port projects I have mentioned above shows. All Philippine public works project contracts have escalation clauses. The French contract has none.:banana: adrielcatada June 20th, 2011, 03:08 AM http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/251093_181652291889920_112951222093361_433839_6691561_n.jpg photo by : Admin Arix (http://www.facebook.com/ilovetacloban.AdminArix) of I Love Tacloban (http://www.facebook.com/ilovetacloban) adrielcatada June 20th, 2011, 03:09 AM http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/252403_181650538556762_112951222093361_433832_4719738_n.jpg thebattlecry June 20th, 2011, 03:10 AM ^^@adrielcatada, andito ka ngayon sa Tacloban? jetomarsupial June 20th, 2011, 03:16 AM [QUOTE=lester_tacloban;79911074]ALERT ALERT ALERT!!! This involves the practice of harassing unknowing outsiders just because they don't use the pedestrian lane when crossing the streets. These practices are assumed to be prevalent in incompetent, not competitive cities. Where in the country can you find "martial law" policies aside from Tacloban. The French contract has none.:banana: ^^ basaha utro an article :D How do you void projects with foreign countries and expect to forge deals with them at the same time??? And why void these projects in the media before consulting the ambassador of these countries first. Diplomacy is very much relevant even when dealing with perceived erroneous projects with foreign entities. We all know how incompetent this F&%$#@g president is when it comes to foreign affairs. I understand the concerns regarding overpricing and feasibility, but i am mostly concerned at the state of these projects. Will the goal of these projects be pursued through different means, or are they voided all together? So in effect we get a railway rehabilitation that is half done? Do we get to keep a terribly polluted laguna lake? This President does a lot of voiding. Any hint of corruption and its voided. Yet nothing is done to replace these projects. Its driving me insane. What does he want to do next OTHER THAN FREAKIN' VOID PROJECTS?????? Infrastructure doesn't F(&(*&g build itself, and no project will ever be free of corruption. What of the PPPs? Really F&*^tard, what has come of your PPPs???? Philippines' Aquino halts some foreign-funded work BY OLIVER TEVES - ASSOCIATED PRESS MANILA, Philippines -- Philippine President Benigno Aquino III is canceling or reconsidering foreign-funded infrastructure projects worth $2 billion, saying that although his country badly needs improvements, the contracts are overpriced and technically deficient. He told The Associated Press in an interview Friday that he has canceled a Belgian-funded lake dredging project, and ordered a restudy of a Chinese-financed rail line and renegotiation of a French-funded port work. Aquino has been reviewing infrastructure contracts signed under his predecessor, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, whose administration has been accused of corruption. He did not accuse anyone involved in the three projects of corruption but said dredging in particular "is one of the most notorious practices for those who do corrupt practices ... so I have a tendency to be allergic to such projects." Aquino canceled the 18.7 billion peso ($430 million) Belgian project to dredge Laguna Lake, the country's largest fresh water lake, on the southern edge of Manila. He said the project was supposed to increase the lake's water-holding capacity to ease flooding and provide potable water to the sprawling metropolis, but that the plan was to simply move 424 million cubic feet (12 million cubic meters) of silt from one portion of the lake and dump it on another portion over three years. "That's where it fell through," he said. He said it would be better to spend that money for his government's 21 billion peso ($483 million) conditional cash transfer program to give financial assistance to the poorest 2.3 million Filipino families. Aquino's year-old administration is fighting graft while wooing foreign investors to partner with his government to boost the economy and fulfill his promise of easing poverty. "We thank the foreign governments that have been assisting us," he said. "We think it is incumbent upon us to be responsible with their kindness in ensuring that these projects are worthwhile." He said he wanted to ensure that such projects would also allow the country to repay its loans to foreign creditors in the long run. He said a 12 billion peso ($276 million) French project to build 72 steel roll-on-roll-off ports around the archipelago will be studied because it was overpriced by about 200 percent, and the country could do with just 36 ports. He said the project calls for building ports in unprotected coves mostly facing the Pacific Ocean on the country's east, where most typhoons originate, thereby voiding the warranty stipulated in the contract. He said he ordered renegotiation of a rail project linking Manila to a northern airport complex, financed by a loan from China, principally because of the cost, which has ballooned to over $1.3 billion. He said the existing plan is to have the line carry only passengers, no cargo, and for it to use narrow-gauge rail, which would cost more because such systems are no longer standard and would have to be custom-made. Aquino, who won last year's election by a landslide on a strong anti-poverty and anti-corruption platform, did not directly accuse anyone or the companies involved in the projects. However, contracts that have been found to be overpriced and investigated are often found to be tainted with corruption. After a Senate probe, Arroyo was forced to cancel one such contract, for a proposed Chinese-financed national broadband network. Aquino ousted the Arroyo-appointed graft prosecutor for failing to act on complaints under the previous administration. He is expected to name a replacement soon. marc_86 June 20th, 2011, 05:57 AM ^^that's why i hate them...:D...from the start waray na nira pag care hit Tacloban...:D ^^ tama ka @battlecry.! curse them. :bash::bash: marc_86 June 20th, 2011, 06:06 AM [QUOTE=lester_tacloban;79911074]ALERT ALERT ALERT!!! On June 25, approximately 50 riders from all over the nation will slice through the waters of Cancabato Bay. Two of these riders are Malaysian, a young lady rider named Nic Shida and her younger brother Faez. Shida’s full name is Nur Shahida bt Mohamad Nor and was born in 1991. She has been riding for two years and just started racing last year. Shida won the Trengganu International Invitation Jet Ski Championship in April this year against a field of 7 riders. The Malaysian team will go against Paul Del Rosario, Jam Mangio, Excel Torres, Butch Casido and Sammy Boy Parilla, Philippine Team, in the Expert Open Class of the Tacloban City First National Jetski Competition. There are 6 other classes in the Tacloban City First National Jetski Competition and we have representatives from Tacloban City. The riders will start to arrive on June 23, 2011, they will have a welcome dinner at the Balyuan Convention Center on that night where they will be introduce to the race officials and will be briefed about the race. Inspection of skis and practice runs will follow the next day, June 24, 2011, in Cancabato Bay. There might be an initial race on the 24th. June 25, will be competition for all the classes. This competition was brought to us by the City Government of Tacloban through Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez and our sponsors. Besides musing at its very interesting past, you will also be amazed at how it transformed into being a booming highly urbanized city amidst a terribly joggling political situation that keeps some of the LGU’s programs and plans at bay. Well, thanks to the people working with City Mayor Alfred Romualdez and his wife councilor Cristina nee Gonzales, a former actress and now champion of women and children. Whoever has contributed input to the city government, especially to the local chief executive, that led to the betterment of the city and the Taclobanons has partly shared a treasure to the progress of the city. Tacloban has its rich past, both in folklore and authentic history. Traced back to its lowly beginnings, Tacloban used to be under the spiritual supervision of the parish in Buscada in Basey, a quaint town in Samar located across the city. Although be it so, Tacloban was within the political administration of Palo, Leyte. According to a research made by the City Tourism Operations Office, on June 20, 1952, the Philippine Congress, under the sponsorship of Rep. Daniel Z. Romualdez of the Fourth (now First) District of Leyte, enacted Republic Act No. 760 converting Tacloban from a municipality into a city. This was implemented on June 12, 1953, the day official recognized as the birth of Tacloban City. Tacloban’s metamorphosis continued when on October 1, 2008, then Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo issued Proclamation No. 1637 levelling up the city into a highly urbanized city. The same was ratified on December 18, 2008 through a citywide plebiscite, the tourism office added. Henceforth, further improvements happened, besides of course the growth in the city economy as could be partly gleaned from the city’s skyscape. As could again be observed in Tacloban’s chronicles, the city grew steadily into being the first HUC in Eastern Visayas with infrastructural amenities and more reliable government and utility services underway. Reforms are introduced which expectedly receive resistance from people who are not ready for the same. This societal attitude is not strange elsewhere in this democratic archipelago. It is not remote to Tacloban, too, just like the problem of flooding that happens even in the highly developed first-world countries. Tacloban could improve furthermore and provide even better chances of economic upliftment to the Taclobanons and investors if only she will be given chance to do so with less political antagonism. It is an inviting city; a city that can put it in the world map of tourism and investment destinations. If only the necessary infrastructures and amenities are put in place and the cooperation of the public is effectively achieved, perhaps Tacloban is the best alternative to Cebu and Iloilo cities in the Visayas and Davao or Cagayan De Oro cities in Mindanao. Besides, it is the gateway to Luzon if from Mindanao and vice versa by land travel, traversing the spectacular SL-shaped San Juanico Bridge. For all the leaders who claim that their only purpose in fighting for the “spotlight” and “limelight” in this years’ celebration of the Feast of Sr. Sto. Niño is to honor Him and not “to earn money, prestige and self-advancement (as evil fruits of pride)”, may peace and love continually reign in your heart and that Sr. Sto. Niño be truly glorified with your unfeigned cause. This is a solemn wish for the good of Tacloban City. mao rong June 21st, 2011, 06:32 AM ^^ma igo an dapat na ma igo...:) jakkuLopez June 21st, 2011, 06:57 AM :ohno: tsk tsk tsk.. same han nag comment hin fearless ha ilovetacloban.. sakto gud man maigo it maigo.. mao rong June 21st, 2011, 07:29 AM http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww308/leeryan25/P6024516.jpg http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww308/leeryan25/P6024517.jpg http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww308/leeryan25/P6024523.jpg jakkuLopez June 21st, 2011, 07:37 AM http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww308/leeryan25/P6024516.jpg http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww308/leeryan25/P6024517.jpg http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww308/leeryan25/P6024523.jpg ^^masarit man.. pwede ko kumuha hin pics? proper credits will be provided :) jakkuLopez June 21st, 2011, 07:38 AM ^^pwede maki gamit hin pics para ha facebook? proper credits will be provided. :) jakkuLopez June 21st, 2011, 07:41 AM http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/260168_181888475199635_112951222093361_435042_6093798_n.jpg source: ilovetacloban (http://www.facebook.com/ilovetacloban) grunge_2009 June 21st, 2011, 07:51 AM ^^ San o an concert han Toto?:) mao rong June 21st, 2011, 07:52 AM ^^pwede maki gamit hin pics para ha facebook? proper credits will be provided. :) ^^sure...:okay: marc_86 June 21st, 2011, 07:57 AM ^^ San o an concert han Toto?:) ^^ June 28  jakkuLopez June 21st, 2011, 07:58 AM ^^sure...:okay: thank thanks.. mao rong June 21st, 2011, 08:00 AM ^^ San o an concert han Toto?:) ^^June 28...:) grunge_2009 June 21st, 2011, 08:02 AM ^^ June 28  ^^June 28...:) ^^ thank u mga sangkay:banana::banana: marc_86 June 21st, 2011, 08:08 AM http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww308/leeryan25/P6024516.jpg http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww308/leeryan25/P6024517.jpg http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww308/leeryan25/P6024523.jpg ^^ clean and green Tacloban.! mao rong June 21st, 2011, 08:10 AM ^^ thank u mga sangkay:banana::banana: ^^anon thank u may bayad adto... marc_86 June 21st, 2011, 08:12 AM Zest Air will start flying from Ceb-Tac and VV soon   jakkuLopez June 21st, 2011, 08:18 AM http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/254970_181934348528381_112951222093361_435289_7827446_n.jpg http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/263824_181652455223237_112951222093361_433840_747964_n.jpg http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/253972_181201391935010_112951222093361_430421_7838567_n.jpg PARAYAW TACLOBAN jakkuLopez June 21st, 2011, 08:19 AM senxa na po kayo ha trying hard lang ako maka join sa forum. nyhahaha grunge_2009 June 21st, 2011, 08:21 AM ^^anon thank u may bayad adto... ^^ mamatron nala kami ha iyo,,,:cheers: Zest Air will start flying from Ceb-Tac and VV soon   ^^ thanks for the update @marc,,,i was impressed han ira services dida han akon pagsakay from Tac to Manila,,,clean aircraft,,courteous and friendly staff ngan eksakto hira ha oras :cheers: pthfndr19 June 21st, 2011, 08:21 AM ^^di nga? kelan ang start/inaugural flight? mao rong June 21st, 2011, 08:31 AM senxa na po kayo ha trying hard lang ako maka join sa forum. nyhahaha ^^ok lang...marisyo ngan kay damo na kita...:) ^^ mamatron nala kami ha iyo,,,:cheers: ^^ thanks for the update @marc,,,i was impressed han ira services dida han akon pagsakay from Tac to Manila,,,clean aircraft,,courteous and friendly staff ngan eksakto hira ha oras :cheers: ^^...august pa ha am...:D Green Arrow June 21st, 2011, 08:32 AM http://images.travelpod.com/users/heli79/1.1277917304.jeepney-tacloban.jpg source: Heli79 (British tourist and blogger) Green Arrow June 21st, 2011, 08:39 AM http://images.travelpod.com/users/heli79/1.1277917304.4_tacloban.jpg WOW...uphill court... The city does not necessarily have much to offer in terms of sights, but it was fun to wander around the town for a day to get a bit of an insight into local living. I just got a deja-vu writing this, have I already written a bit about this in one of the earlier entries? If this seems familiar then skip to the next bit... Anyways, journey from Camotes Islands to Ormoc, then Tacloban was quite interesting. As soon as I'd sat down on the boat, a friendly local came over to ask if I'm a missionary (this is the third or fourth time this happened, seriously what is it? I think I need to re-consider my travel wardrobe! Or maybe I am smiling too much and looking a little bit too delirious/enlightened, but it's difficult not to when all the locals are all smiles and so friendly themselves!) Jeepney, Tacloban . He was a former missionary himself and seemed a little bit disappointed when I told him I'm just travelling around the country, but was nevertheless intrigued about my travel plans and we ended up chatting for the most of the boat journey. In the port town of Ormoc I hopped on a mini-van to the other side of the island of Leyte, and ended up sitting next to a very talkative man called Rene. As usual, he stroke up conversation by asking if I'm single, and was very surprised to hear that I am. "Really? Why? Did you use to have a boyfriend? Why not anymore? Maybe because a misunderstanding?" He went on to say that if I was a Philippino woman of my age, I would be very worried and depressed to be single still - "are you worried?" (Umh, I wasn't until you put it that way...) But he then went on to comfort me by saying that if he was my brother, he would punch my ex boyfriend for being so stupid, and that I would have no problem at all finding a new boyfriend or perhaps husband if I wanted in the Philippines. In fact, if I wanted any help he might have some suitable neighbours, friends or colleagues and one of them might just be the one. Similar thing happened when I was having dinner in Tacloban the following day - I had just ordered a meal, when two men asked if they could join me, saying that no one should eat their dinner alone Tacloban . It turned out one of them was the mayor and the other was a chief inspector in the local police force - so I could hardly tell them to go away! But as everyone else I'd met so far, they were really nice, and next thing one of them was showing off how to open a beer bottle with - wait - a spoon. Later on the police officer offered to match me up with his brother who too was still single, which their mother was most worried about. "Perhaps it is destiny that you are in Tacloban for a day or two?" Ah ok, well I don't really know him I said, what is he like? "Good man, very very quiet". Very kind, but I don't think me and a man who doesn't talk are meant to be! I kickstarted the following morning by trying to organise my return travel to Manila - a few hours and three trips to a travel agency later, I finally had my flight booked. By the time I came in for the third time I was getting a wee bit worried about whether I would actually be able to get on the flight - helpfully, the agency had a little sign at their desk reminding me to "relax, God is in charge". I spent most of the rest of the day wandering around the town and the market sampling local mangos and other delicacies - you'd be amazed at just how many different kinds of treats it's possible to make out of rice! My favourite was probably sweet sticky rice with chocolate, wrapped in a banana leaf; although sweet sticky rice with coconut and some sweet sugary syrup tasted absolutely heavenly too. I also took a jeepney (a sort of local mini-bus) to another town nearby which was the landing site for the Americans who liberated the country from the Japanese occupation at the end of the World War II, to see the larger than life size statues of general McArthur and his men, which were quite impressive.
