I will be moving back to Leyte for good and this will be my mission and I will challege and encourage the city officials to put up a Museum for WWII, we can even solicit donations and funding for such Museum from the international arena. Nowhere in the Philippines where there is such remarkable historical event that happened in the Philippines other than Leyte. In Hawaii I believe the death memorial for the soldiers that died that is sitting on a sunkin ships charges fees for entrance. I'm not sure but I know we had to spend to go there. And this could be done in a museum in tacloban to maintain the museum. I'm sure visitors would be willing to help lalo ng mga foreigners.

great, i will have to do a lot of research in order to get this rolling, but we're on the right track. i know this can be done. :) if we don't have the WHITE sands, we have history that is unique and no other city has it the same.

TACLOBAN CITY — Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office 8 administrator Bing Lumbre expressed elation and support to the department’s newest slogan-”It’s more than fun in the Philippines “.

The slogan, which was officially launched by Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. on Friday, reportedly gained immediate attention worldwide thru the help also of social media users in the country.

Lumbre also enjoined the people in the region to support the said campaign, adding that tourism is everybody’s business.

”We’re happy that this has finally come out because this has long been awaited.”

Also Lumbre believes that the country is ready again to promote itself to the markets particularly abroad.

”The launching of the slogan is very timely also as to the tourism updates here in our region. The opening of two big new hotels—Go Hotel and Oriental Hotel—hopefully will also complement on this.”

According to Lumbre, their department is now starting to implement its Tourism Act of 2009, this to increase and improve the ‘accessibility’ of the country to domestic and foreign tourists.

Accordingly, the act will enhance the standards of transportation services for tourist use and integrate relevant government agencies to develop its one-stop shop system for the speedy issuance of franchises and accreditation for tourism transport operators, among others.

Also, they will be intensifying product standard development and human resource trainings in the region to attract more visitors and investors.

On behalf of tourism Regional Director Karen Tiopes, Lumbre also thanked other stakeholders in tourism for their respective efforts in promoting the various attractions and destinations in Eastern visayas.

For one, Lumbre gladly welcomed the presence of 8 Magazine, first glossy lifestyle and travel mag with national and international mode of circulation, for its contributions in exposing the ‘fun’, events, natural wonders and interesting places and people in the region.

”Before we only bring brochures and other promotional materials…yet now we also have a magazine helping us. This is a boost to our tourism.”

Meanwhile, 8 magazine editor Aaron J.P. Almadro shared the same positive impression on the new DOT campaign.

”It’s more than fun in the Philippines, as we know it. It’s even more ‘funnier’ here, other say. It’s in our nature. Actually, it’s more fun anywhere in the country. This is also because we are relatively happy people compared to our other Asian counterparts. It’s more fun here because ‘Kahit anong ibato sa atin kaya nating harapin’, even during times of disaster,” Almadro explained. (RONALD O. REYES)

Thanks, sounds like a lot of you are in support with the idea. FYI though I won't be moving back til next year, but the good thing is by that time DOT would have everything rolled out with their new campaign for tourism. This will take a lot of time and effort and doable.:)

^^ the same thing is actually happening at santo nino shrine. been there again after 10years. and you'll see the difference. the robe of the seated image of a chinese emperor had already deteriorated and gone were the russian icons and the glass cabinets that had displays of chinese ivory and other religious work of art are now covered in an ugly frame and you can't anymore see the grandeur of the place nor appreciate the beauty of its work of art that can now be viewed only if you try to peep thru those small opening.

nakakaawa talaga ng condition ng inyong mga heritage structures. panahon na siguro para bawiin ang lahat ng yan sa pcgg at sa mga nagpabaya sa pag-aalaga ng inyong mga heritage. nawa'y magising na kayo kasi nakakahiya din na magpromote ng mga heritage structures na yan gaya nalang ng sto nino shrine na ang mahal pa ng entrance at pati paggamit ng digicam may bayad tapos pagpasok nila mararamdaman nalang nila na wala nang kaluluwa ang lugar na yan. it had already been stripped of its soul. of its art and artworks that are either being transferred and hidden in bodegas or encased in wires.

Lousy daw ano? Sayang la it budget, sponsored pa daman kanan Province. Since, not all Leyte Province is Waray-waray speaking individuals kay most of the western part ng province are Cebuano-speaking individuals. Better make it in English or Tagalog format. Or they could put translation in English/Tagalog format as sub-title.

Among the expected new consumer of the Leyeco II in the next few years include a big shopping mall which has already informed their office of its intention to put up a branch here in Tacloban....

just want to share....last year, may ada mga US Navy cadets nga nakada ha Tacloban nga nag tour hira han mga War Memorials dida ha McArthur Landing Memorial,site of one of the greatest naval battle,,then nagkadto hira ha Guiuan ha may Ngolos (ha may 7th Fleet Depot during WWII)...siring han mga cadets,,an ira tour was part of their studies ha ira academy...:):)

According to Ms. Arlene Magtibay, RLC Commercial Centers Divisions General Manager, over 18 million visitors have been to Robinsons Place Tacloban since its opening, prompting the company to expand the first and only full-service mall in Eastern Visayas. “Robinsons Place Tacloban owes its success to its strategic location as well as its interesting tenant mix which has successfully serviced the needs of the locals as well transient shoppers from nearby Samar, Northern Leyte and as far as Cebu,” added Ms. Magtibay.

The new wing is a two level expansion building connected to the main mall and has a gross floor area of almost 7,000 square meters and approximately 4,300 square meters of gross leasable space. Together with the Main Mall, Robinsons Place Tacloban now has a GFA of 41,000 sqm and a GLA of 24,000 sqm.

“We are happy to have finally convinced Eagle Trans Asia (ETA) Air to open this regional flight not being served by other airlines,” Gov. Daza said. “This will increase the accessibility of Northern Samar to tourists and investors,” he added.

The aircraft will depart from Cebu for Catarman every MWFSat at 8:00a.m. and estimated to arrive at 8:35 a.m., and then fly again for Tacloban (from Catarman) at 9:00a.m. from Tacloban. It will leave for Catarman at 9:40 a.m., and from Catarman fly back to Cebu at 10:20AM. Depending on the market, it may later on cater Tuesdays of the week or even open on a daily basis, Jamili and Co said. Meantime, ETA Air may accommodate chartered flights for group travel or prearrangeed tours outside its regular schedule.

Yup, hoping this will start the regional flights from Tacloban to other parts of EV with airports like Maasin, Borongan, Guiaun, Calbayog and Ormoc. Since DZR airport is aiming for International airport gateway. This will surely boost ecotourism in our own region. According to the flight schedule as mentioned in the article, ETA will be coming 1st from Cebu City and fly to Catarman with an estimated travel time of 35 minutes. In Catarman, there will be 25 minutes for disembarking and embarking of their passengers to fly again to Tacloban City at 9:00 AM. In Tacloban City they will return back to Catarman at estimated time of departure at 9:40AM. Assuming there will be a 25 minutes disembarkation and embarkation of their passengers, that makes, there will be an estimated 15 minutes travel time from Catarman to Tacloban City. :D:

TACLOBAN CITY-The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has $120 million under its sleeves for the total rehabilitation of Tacloban Daniel Z. Romualdez (DZR) Airport.

Leyte second district Representative Sergio Apostol revealed that the fund, amounting to P5,214,000,120.00 at an exchange rate of P43.45 to $1, was secured during the incumbency of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo through a Japanese aid program.

“We have a fund for the project which we are now demanding from the DOTC to be released as soon as possible. That is why we are persuading the Secretary and the President to use the fund,” he said, adding that An Waray Representative Neil Benedict Montejo is now assertively stirring the agency for the immediate release of the amount.

He said the huge amount of funding, which is with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, must be released in full and not in slices if the government intends a full-blown repair of the domestic airport.

BTW, according to a press release from the Capitol, another BPO company will be locating at the Leyte ICT Park within the year but they can't disclose the name of the company since they are still finalizing their negotiations :)

Other tourist attractions that draw tourists last year included the Divinubo Eco Tour Park in Borongan City; Zipline in Sogod, Southern Leyte; National Shrine in Limasawa, Southern Leyte; Sohoton Cave in Basey, Samar and Bontoc Cave in Hindang, Leyte.

I guess tama nga si @chillendawg. We have to build our own museum solely for World War 2 or a dive site of sunking ships in the Leyte Gulf used during the World War 2 to attract more tourist. As mentioned in the above article Americans, Australians and Japanesse are the ones oftenly visiting our place.

Less chance for Koreans since we don't have schools accredited for English language courses in which Koreans are being up to when they're here in Philippines.

Mexicans, Germans and Norwegians, mostly they love to do spelunking and explore caves. :okay:

Have dine-in at Stephanie's Avenida branch when we have a small talks with @mars, @carl & kuya @jo. The place is nice, native Filipino setting, lutong-Filipino dishes, cheap price, good ambiance over-all excellent restaurant until I see a mouse running in the corner near to their wash room. Don't know @carl, @mars and kuya @jo has seen it. It's a jaw dropping experience talaga, think they need to be sanitize their building. Coz it's old one already. :D

Tacloban City is not a top tourist destination in the country today unlike Puerto Princesa City, Tagbilaran City, Cagayan de Oro City and Legazpi City that are in the line-up for 1st batch of PPP priority projects. That, they foresee the influx of passengers would be coming to these cities and accomodate more airline passengers for the coming years. Especially if their airports will be open for international fligths per open skies policy. Also, the Caticlan/Kalibo airport whose primary airport for the world famous white-sand beach Boracy island also to have airport expansion due to rapid influx of domestic & foreign passengers by thousands each year. The said airport, already hits 1 million mark of passengers last 2010 that's why they prioritize their airport expansion and beautification.

In other perspective, other regional cities/metropolitan like Clark, Bacolod, Iloilo, Davao, Cebu & Manila has fast growing passengers year by year that needs massive expansions and renovations. Wherein millions of passengers fly-in & fly-out to that airports and generates big chunk of amount of airport terminal fee amounting to Php 200 and air cargo fees.

If our airport will not hit 1 million mark of passengers fly-in & fly-out using our airport and generates small amount of terminal fees / air cargo fees perhaps our national gov't will be blind on this matter. Unless, our politicians in our region will not hand-in-hand help one another that our DZR airport be open as international airport for eco-tourism. I guess that's what some of the politicians in Leyte are now doing, do hope more politicians from other provinces/cities in the region will join their crusade. :okay:

people of tacloban need to demand and protest ha airport mismo. ipabaro ha gobyerno by protesting in person para mabaro hira. that is the power of people, para mabatian kamo. your reasons are valid, the airport terminal is old, beyond full capacity, and is unsafe for passengers. pag nasunog ito patay tanan an adto ha sulod, kay huruot hin duro. baga ngayatek hin mga sardinas ha sulod, kaarawod gad ito nga airport. i could care less for the expansion of runway or whatever it is that they needed to repair ha ligid hit baybayon. iton building terminal hagi baga hin marurumpag na. sorry i had to vent out. kamo nga aada ha tacloban it pakadto unta ha airport at mag protesta kamo. diri it makiwa kon waray tawo na nanrereklamo. dida la kamo kababatian kon managdemand na kamo. ano juan tamad, magnginginanga la hasta kahulog hit mayabas? hehe ta waray matatabo!

TACLOBAN CITY-Using the Lineyte-Samarnon (Winaray) during sessions has received thumbs up from the presiding officer and all members of the Tacloban city council.

Ladylyn Mangada-Lim, social science professor at the University of the Philippines in the Visayas-Tacloban College said the city council’s move is “liberating for the Taclobanons” since there is an impending language crisis in our place.

“It seems that most are ignoring the native language. It is good to note that the city council has initiated this move,” Prof. Mangada-Lim said.

She added that even in schools, the mother tongue is now used to teach pupils and students.

“The use of local language helps in conserving culture and restores pride and identity for us Taclobanons,” she said. (REYAN L. ARINTO)
