This tower might just end up looking GREAT. There is something I have always wondered about Chinese skyscrapers though. How come they (seemingly) never start the cladding until the full size of the structure is completed? This does not seem to be the case anywhere else in the world, as far as I can tell.

Wow first time I see this tower, because it's now a supertall.
Luckily a lot more people will see it now, it deserves the recognition.
And in the render you see a much larger building, is the other, lower, part completed already or whats the status of that?

Btw thanks Zorg for all your pictures, not only here but in all the Chinese construction threads.

I think the lower floors will house the new studios, newsroom and production facilities. This is probably the most advanced broadcast facility ever built by a Chinese TV network since CCTV and Beijing-based BTV. :)

The actual name of this project is Anhui Broadcasting and TV Center, designed by Emmanuel Delarue of NDA (New Design Architechture).

This will be the new home of Anhui TV, one of China's biggest broadcast networks.

NDA Builds Asia’s Largest Stage

NDA designs Anhui Broadcasting & TV Centre; the 301-meter high tower is considered to be the largest tower ever designed by a French architect in China. Following an international competition in 2009, NDA was selected as the finalist for the design of the Anhui Broadcasting and TV Centre.

Located at the south end of Swan Lake in the new commercial and administrative heart of Hefei, Anhui’s capital city, the Centre will provide signature space for the region’s largest television producer and become the highest observation point of the region. When completed, the iconic tower will rise above the Anhui skyline, making it the largest tower ever designed by a French architect in China.

NDA’s design concept is inspired from the cultural character of paper scrolls and calligraphy, with the curves of the centre’s façade giving the building an iconic and airy feeling. In the design, the NDA team sought to understand how to optimize the connections among the different functions of the work spaces, working closely with the stakeholders who will occupy the office space, from the broadcasting and production teams to the management.

Careful attention was given to the circulation between the buildings and open areas, with many of the lobbies and public space allowing for multi-functional uses. “Our intention was to build a cultural landmark for Anhui in a contemporary style that would restore the province’s cultural heritage, while meeting highly technical and specific requirements of the TV and the Broadcasting industry”, says Emmanuel Delarue, CEO and Chief Architect of NDA Architecture.

The lower part of the tower shelters all the broadcasting studios, the multimedia companies, the technical and services area and a 400 sqm theatre whose stage is the widest ever in China. The offices are located in the upper part of the media tower. The first construction phase was completed in October 2011. When completed in 2013, the Tower will provide an observation area open to the public.

the spire on top is about 80m i think, so the actual roof height is under 300m.

I searched a bit through the net, i'm almost 100% sure that this tower is not a supertall as pteranodon posted already.
It should be moved to the Skyscraper-Section.
I Also removed it from the Supertall List again.

wow, this one is top out already. Why is it not a supertall when it's taller than 300m? More buildings should be built like this instead of square and rectangular boxes.

This one is obviously not a supertall.. It doesn't have the height and bulk of a supertall.
But still, it does look good and the height is great for the area. It sticks out pretty well.
