BOC is locate in Central .. You will notice that if you take the subway (the second station of the blue line)

HEHE ... i was living in Tsuen Wan before when i was in Hong Kong .. takes me about one hour travel to Central !!

on a side note, Hongkong's MTR system (subway) is fantastic!!

yeah it is.. when I was in HK.. I always use the MRT to go everywhere.. very convenient

and the MRT can get very crowd during the peak hours (in the morning and afternoon)

How many MRT line in HK? In ASEAN, I think BKK will have the busiest MRT lines, check www.2bangkok.com to see the plan of lines expansion

I think they are going to expand another 3 lines ...

jakarta looks like any other western city, the place is quite developed. Arent there any things like slums?

imagine Jakarta with no slump.. no traffic jam.. good public transport.. clean breathable air.. whoah.. the land value will sky rocket for sure.

I think it'll take Jakarta a good 10 years to reach the level of development enjoyed by Kuala Lumpur as a city today, and probably some 30 years to reach Singapore's standards today. The prolonged economic downturn has been a huge drawback for the city, and the country in general.

It is definitely bigger than KL in both the size and the population. Jakarta Metropolitan area has a day time population of about 11 million.

yup.. it is definitely bigger than KL.. I've been in both cities before.. and KL feels small compared to Jakarta.. (no offense to malaysian forumers).. but KL has a higher density of skyscrapers in the CBD than Jakarta.. cause Jakarta's Skyscrapers are spread alligned with the main road.. whilst KL's skyscrapers seems to be more concentrated in one area..
nevertheless both cities are great...

I agree that KL is definitely a fine looking city - it is the prettiest capital city in Southeast Asia on my list.

Hi guys :) , i would like to state that Jakarta needs More Trees(this is in my opinion) especially in in the CBD areas.When i first went to Jakarta in 2001,(lol, i was only 11 yrs old then) I cant help but to hate the MONAS area so much, the grass area of MONAS is massive but lack of trees, are they planning to plant more trees there? would be nice to have MONAS grass area turn into the like of Hyde Park in Sydney. Gosh this might reduce the pollution of Jakarta a bit.

Oh (slightly of the point)I think buildings in Dubai are alligned on major roads just like in Jakarta. :)

Great idea, but unfortunately the city government has now fenced the entire area so it is no longer open to the general public. But my understanding is they've planted more trees and beautified it, adding raindeers etc.
Good for the air, but bad for public access!

If there's one thing Jakarta lacks, its open accessible public space....

Raindeers? That's pretty cool. I read once that the Badan Intelijen Negara headquarters had deer in an enclosed area behind it or something along those lines.

Not the slums or the shacks, but those houses with orange roofs behind the skyscrapers,I think those houses are really out of place.... those houses really make Jakarta CBD looks old. Here is an Example:

These are proper houses, not shacks. If you can see from the pics, they are made from bricks / concrete. But they are result of long years of bad city planning, so the houses seem to be built at random.

Those houses are like the the houses in the tight Tokyo suburbs,but in Jakarta theyre more out of place, because those houses are built so close to the Jakarta CBD making them looks ugly compared to the modern towers. A sore in the eyes for sure....

anyway.. im sure that not ALL houses in jakarta are like that, cuz i remeber my dads house being really spacious front and back...

Some of these houses do have front and backyard,its just due to the amount of Population in Jakarta these houses were built like in Tokyo(tightly close to each other,and narrow streets) with the Jakarta Area being expanded houses in the new organised suburbs are built like proper suburbs with wide roads.I been to a suburb in Jakarta,where the houses are very organise like in Sydney.I forgot the name of the suburb,but its look a very organised middle class suburb.An Indonesian Movie,

YAH I AGREE THAT THE HOUSE LOOK OUT OF PLACE AND NEED BETTER PLANNING FOR THE CBD AREA
BUT I THINK IT IS NOT NECESSARILY TO REMOVE THE HOUSE THERE AS IT REMEMBER US WHAT JAKARTA LOOK LAST TIME AND SEE THE DIFFERENT BETWEEN OLD JAKARTA AND MODERN JAKARTA
