I've decided to create this thread because people in other threads have been asking for people to give updates when tickets become available, as you never really know with fifa, wont get into that now but anyway...

If any tickets that were previously unavailable or "sold out" have become available, im sure many people will appreciate if you would post their availability in this thread. This thread is strictly meant for topics relating to ticket availability on fifa.com...

-Not intended for ticket trades/swaps
-Not intended for personal ticket sales

All other ticket related issues should be posted in the appropriate thread namely:

"What games will you be going to during World Cup?"
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=954056
AND
"Match ticket Collection booths/Whats the best way to collect them ?"

Also USA V Slov -why has there always been tickets available for this when so many Americans are travelling

Read somewhere a while ago that the amount of tickets sold to Americans isn't necessarily just for USA games...alot of tickets sold in America is actually to people staying in the USA but from other countries or supporting their home country, mainly Mexico, but also other South American teams and also some of the European teams.

Tickets will become available whenever sponsors return them. For Germany, this happened at any time in the two months leading up to the tournament.

What you will also have will be all the tickets returned by fans who wanted to go, but can no longer make it.

When these will be available is less clear, as the resale part of the site is "down for maintenance" and will probably remain unavailable until FIFA have shifted as many of the unwanted sponsor tickets as possible.

Sadly I'm in that boat. I have 7 tickets and was really looking forward to coming over, but the mistaken belief that fans from Europe readily pay R3000 a night for hotel rooms (among other price hikes) has made it impossible. Apparently much of this pricing was due to FIFA's advice. Yes, there are some who'll happily spend the price of a small car on a two-week break, but the vast majority have nothing like that amount of disposal income. Even in Germany in 2006, I'd have been paying R600 for decent rooms.

The odds are that prices for unsold rooms, of which there appear to be loads, will drop like a stone, but I can't take that risk.

So, my message is to not assume "sold out" really means sold out. Keep checking and more tickets will become available, assuming FIFA ever gets the resale site working.

^^ Dude, I think you're overracting a little. R3000/night is not the norm. There should be plenty of accommodation in the big cities as long as you're not looking to stay in 5-star faciities. Also, we're now only expecting 200,000 visitors, down from a projected 500k so a lot more will be come available!

If you want, I'd be happy to make some local enquiries for you!

I have been looking at how smart FIFA or Match is. First they create a hype and demand for tickets knowing that consumers will panic and buy expensive (CAT1 and CAT2) tickets. This makes sure that their maximum profits are realised from this last ticketing phase.

Tomorrow they are opening the Shoprite Checkers ticketing phase. This is normally the low LSM consumer so which category tickets do you think will be for sale? Yes, the CAT4 and CAT3 tickets. That is why tickets are currently unavailable because they will be available tomorrow at Shoprite Checkers.

So don't say you were not warned. I might of course be wrong but I'll be one of the people to get my tickets there.

Just a reminder on the branches that will sell tickets tomorrow:

Checkers Hyper - Sandton
Checkers Hyper - Westgate
Checkers Hyper - Eastgate
Checkers Hyper - Menlyn
Checkers Hyper - Westville
Checkers - Hillcrest
Shoprite - Chatsworth
Checkers - Century City
Checkers - Plumstead
Checkers - Langehovenpark
Shoprite - Heidedal
Shoprite - Redhouse
Shoprite - Newtown Park
Shoprite - Nogwase
Shoprite - Britz
Shoprite - Tzaneen
Shoprite - Nelspruit

Which would have worked much much much better if the systems actually worked at fnb's, because people standing in lines for so long (8-24 hours) become desperate, and are willing to buy higher category tickets than they intended to, however, most people just gave up and left the line, meaning fifa missed out on many thousands of ticket sales opportunities.

karabo216
April 18th, 2010, 11:19 PM
Yep! I know the feeling as I was one of those people who left the line after 6 hours at the Sandton ticketing centre. I think they underestimated the actual demand and the fact that FNB and Ticketing Centres are all linked to the same Match server/s did not help due to a bottleneck.

The reason I'm confident that Shoprite Checkers will have tickets is because on Friday I placed a call to the FIFA Call Centre 0831232010 and the gentleman kindly told me to not dispair and try SC on Monday. This after I had told him that I specifically want CAT 4 tickets in Johannesburg. So I think that FIFA made an allocation to SC as they do with Bus and Plane tickets to sell to the public because they are probably not linked to Match servers.

Quick question, as I'm sure a lot of you have already physically picked up your tickets, do you have to have the names and ID no's of all the guests you plan on taking to the games when collecting the tickets? Or is the main applicants name the only one that appears on the tickets? I've heard conflicting stories about this and wanna get it straight..

R3000+ is the norm on all the booking sites I've used in the past. There are cheaper places here and there, but I was budgeting for more like R800 at most, which is a considerably higher than I'd pay anywhere else in the world at any time.

You can save by staying out of town, particularly around cape town, or by staying in basic backpacker places, but neither appeal.

Durban actually seems to be the worst place for price rises, but there's very little value in Port Elizabeth either.

I'd love to go, but it was already looking like my most expensive trip away ever at the planning stage. Bumping the budget by another 50% makes it just impractical.

I've been resigned to not going for a while, and it would possibly be slightly awkward getting the time off work now (and I'm only on a temporary rolling contract, so annoying them wouldn't good) but I know that seven times I'm going to be watching games on tv, knowing I ought to be in the stands.

There's nothing like a world cup. The vibe is just brilliant, particularly in the first week when everyone's there to enjoy themselves, and the reality of being knocked out hasn't kicked in yet - so good luck to all trying to buy tickets.

Like most visitors to SA, I will be picking up my tickets once I arrive. The method of getting your tickets I believe is by inserting "the same credit card used to purchase tickets" into the ticket machine.

However the FIFA ticket page tells me to ensure I use the exact card and to mail them if this is an issue..... Well the card I used to purchase the tickets has expired and I've got a new card which has slightly different details (such as expires date etc)

I've emailed FIFA three times and nobody has got back to me?? anyone think this could be a problem?

I have exactly the same problem and the Fifa told me "nearer the tournament date your FIFA Account will be activated with the option to update you payment card details."

Well, we are two month in front of the World Cup and it happened exactly what I expected: NOTHING!

I wrote them two times in the last week and got no reply.

Furthermore I putted some tickets to resell in my account last Friday and since then this part of the page is out of order.

Last but not least if you wanted to see on the german version of the Fifa-HP where the ticket collection points are you had to speak spanish until this morning.

I really dont think you will have any difficulty. I got my tickets only presenting my ID, no problems and quick. I had absolutely nothing else with me and they didnt ask for it. I just quoted all the games I am going to and they cross checked. But to be safe bring along the backup stuff you have.

You might just have to wait a little longer for someone behind the counter rather than going to the unmanned machine where you swipe your card.

I just inserted my card into the machine and got the tickets. There's no need of any ID when going to collect your tickets but it would be safe incase those machines do not read your card.

Guys I know that this question has been asked a number of times in different ways but nobody has answered it yet. I really would like to know that if tickets are returned, are these made available at face to face ticketing centres like FNB because clearly nothing is happening on FIFA's website. I have heard of big numbers of people returning their tickets and it is really frustrating me that I can't find out if FIFA are holding them back or putting them back on the market. Please does anybody know what is happening with those resale tickets?

Tons of people have returned tickets including TSTs of England,Argentina and few other countries that I know of.
Some of these folks who have listed their tickets for sale have received confirmation from FIFA that they were successful in selling the tickets. But I havent seen any evidence that the tickets coming back into the pool have been sold to the general public yet. Maybe FIFA is trying to get as many tickets as possible for various matches and then put them up for sale online at a future date and make it available at the local ticket centres.
But according to reports from other forums, tickets are being bought back by FIFA>

Best educated guess at this stage is and always has been

-Ticketing centres will have exactly the same pool of tickets to sell as the fifa.com portal

-FIFA are currently concentrating on their own stock first hoping to sell as many NMB,Nelspruit,Polokwane and Bloem tickets as possible(anyone thats been tracking FIFA.com knows its been reasonably successful so far)

-resales/returns for all high selling matches simply must start to appear within the next fortnight(most likely the next week)

-resales of low demand matches will remain out of the market until such time that FIFA has got sold the vast majority of their own stock-especially higher categories

This suggests that Match are taking these tickets for hospitality packages because we all know NOTHING has been listed for resale

Final Result ? I got nothing solved by calling them. They said that I should wait for a response to the email I sent them last week. umm, wtf?
Well, the main reason why I even called them was because they didnt email me back and I thought speaking to a real person would help my case!

The only surprising stat was PE's slow uptake - possibly due to economic depression. Nelspruit and Polokwane have much much smaller populations and those with money are very stricly rugger buggers. I was always worried about those to towns to be perfectly honest.

Populations:
PE: 1,244,900 (2000) - 4th biggest city

April 27th, 2010, 10:51 PM
Yea thats pretty clear, will be really pissed off if they make us wait for june to sell the big batch of CT or Durban tickets but given the insane demand for them thats probably what theyl do. However I can at least salvage hope in that FIFA have shown they aren't as clever as they make themselves out to be. The number of matches they gave PE to host is a joke. I know that you cant really put extra matches anywhere else because CT, Durbs, pretoria and JHB have basically reached their capacity of matches when you take the schedule into context of the past tournaments but still, surely something could have been done.

bafanafan
April 27th, 2010, 11:13 PM
Just thought of one option they could have gone with, and in my opinion would have been the better option for ticket sales. Change the venue of the 3rd/4th to either pretoria or bloem. Pretoria is doing a damn good job in ticket sales and I can understand that it is nowhere near the quality of a stadium that NMB is, but surely the organisers might have considered that given the population of PE and lets face it, the lack of attractions, the large pool of games that they were allocated would always be difficult to sell out. I can understand that in ending the tournament, the LOC would have wanted to end with the four most eye catching stadiums but I think a bit more could have been done to Loftus anyways. Yes money would have been needed and they had spent a lot of that already on other stadiums but given the amounts that were spent in each province, did Pretoria not deserve for their stadium to have a slight facelift. Let's face it, if Loftus isn't fixed up ten years from now we will be wondering why with the stadiums that have been built for this tournament that we bother playing sport in something that looks like that. Pretoria is one of South Africa's capitals and the only reason it is neglected, and not only in FWC terms, is because it is so close to JHB. I am all for games on the coast, I have made it pretty clear how frustrated I am at the lack of supply left for CT tickets but really everybody and especially the LOC or whoever drew up the schedule should have known PE would never be able to bring in enough fans for 8 games.

Yea thats true, never realised they were without one. Just assumed the organisers wouldn't have made a mistake that great. I dont think it would have been possible to give CT any more games. I can understand the reasons for it, but 9 matches for a stadium in a world cup is a bit much, especially when it isnt a the flagship stadium. In 2002 there were double the amount of stadiums used than this world cup and the crazy thing is that they actually had more that they planned to use. The last world cup had 12 venues so I just think 9 games in one stadium would be over the top.

MDV was the local transport system in Leipzig
Anyway there was certainly free transport to the stadium and back on match day if you had WC tickets
The equivalent here for 2010 is Park and Ride which seems to involve parking at particular places for each venue and then you get a free bus to the stadium

Berlin: Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB)
Leipzig: Mitteldeutscher Verkehrsverbund (MDV). There's an S-Bahn between Leizpig and Halle but you can take MDV Regionalexpress trains as well.
München: Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (MVV)
Nürnberg: Verkehrsverbund Großraum Nürnberg (VGN)
Stuttgart: Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund Stuttgart (VVS)
Frankfurt am Main: Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV)
Kaiserslautern: Westpfalz-Verkehrsverbund (WVV)
Gelsenkirchen, Dortmund: Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR)

it only stays sold out for a short while, dont know if youve noticed but those sold out categories often go back to yellow again. I think England slovenia CAT4 has gone from red to orange to yellow and back again at least 5 times. Its just FIFA's way of conning us into thinking that these will be the last tickets available and we better buy them now rather than later.

Cape Town A few thousand additional 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup tickets have gone on sale for the general public on Tuesday through all available sales channels.

These tickets have become available following the ongoing finalisation of seating arrangements at all FIFA World Cup match venues and further adjustments of different ticket allocations.

This process has seen additional tickets become available for some of the matches in Cape Town and Durban. However, the opening match, the first round match Brazil versus Portugal, the two semi-finals and the final are all unavailable.

Fans can check the constantly updated availability chart of the 2010 FIFA World Cup matches on FIFA.com, direct link: https://lmsfwctickets.fifa.com/LMS/MatchAvailability.aspx

“We promised to alert fans in advance whenever we have tickets that suddenly become available especially for the very popular matches.

However, it is also worth reminding fans that the best teams and players in the world will compete in this FIFA World Cup and therefore there are no “small” matches.

All 32 teams will compete at the highest level in a unique ambience”, explained Horst R. Schmidt, Chairman of FIFA’s Ticketing Sub-Committee, who added that he is pleased with the pace of ticket sales to date.

So far more than 230 000 tickets have been sold during the current fifth and last sales phase which commenced on 15 April – 173 500 over the counter (100 000 tickets have been sold via FNB branches, 10 000, Shoprite/Checkers and a 66 000 via the FIFA Ticketing Centres) and further 60 000 via FIFA.com/Call Centre. This further underlines the growing anticipation and palpable excitement in the host country

Overall, the host nation South Africa is leading the ticket sales, with approximately 1 150 000 tickets purchased, followed by USA with around 130 000, UK 97 000, Australia 43 000, Germany 40 000, Mexico 36 000, Japan 22 000, Brazil 18 000, Canada 17 000 and Switzerland 16 000.

I still see Cape Town and Durban still unavailable what a joke! :bash:

No im 100% what we see on FIFAs website is what will be at the counters. They have to go through the Match server to get tickets. Like when I went to get Eng Slo Cat 4 tickets the guy at the table said last night he checked and they were unavailable and now they were available, exactly the same as the info I got off the website. The only thing they can see that we cant is how many tickets are available.

SWC ticket sales on go-slow

Johannesburg - More than half of the 500 000 Soccer World Cup tickets offered for cash sales were still available, organisers said on Wednesday, just over a month before the tournament starts.

Initial brisk business when the fifth and final phase of sales opened in South Africa on April 15, sparking long queues, appears to have cooled.

Greg Fredericks, head World Cup local organising committee CEO Danny Jordaan's office, told Johannesburg city councillors less than 300 000 tickets remained for the June 11-July 11 tournament.

"We are approaching 90 percent ticket sales for the World Cup," he said.

FIFA spokesperson Delia Fischer confirmed that 230 000 of the allotted 500 000 phase five tickets - the first to be sold over the counter - had been sold.

Soccer's world governing body moved to cash sales after widespread criticism that its Internet-based system was too complicated and effectively excluded millions of poor black fans in the host country who do not have access to computers or credit cards.

Supporters initially rushed to buy those seats, with 130 000 tickets sold in the first three days.

Fredericks said matches in Johannesburg - which will host the opening and final matches - and Pretoria were sold out but there were still many tickets available for matches in Polokwane, Port Elizabeth and Nelspruit.

He also said the government would soon release a transportation timetable for planes, buses and other public transport for the month-long soccer spectacular.

can someone put my mind at rest, I've CAT1 tickets for 5 x games in Durban. I'm still waiting for my official conformation letter from FIFA (is anyone else) But what is concerning me at the moment is.... today I was able to go online and select a CAT1 seat for the Nigeria game, I was able to select a seat on the front row of the 2nd tier bang on the halfway line which is a cracking seat. It just worries me that all these "cracking seats" will now get allocated to last minute buyers and what seats have I been allocated??

I could end up in the front row of the bottom tier which would be a nightmare. Can any of you who bought tickets online and have them tell me if you had the choice to select seat or were they already allocated and if so, are the seats any good?

its not as it seems pf. firstly, most of the blocks that say few tickets, are actually sold out, they just havent been updated. secondly and most importantly. it may look like a lot of tickets available when you click and see many many blocks available, but! change tickets requested to 2 or 3 or 4, and youll see the amount of available blocks dramatically decrease. most of the tickets available are single seats scattered around the stadium, often not more than 1 or 2 per block.

I guess those are not only my own problems, so I continue the discussion here.

1 - and how can we ensure that stadiums entrance with CAT-4 ticket would not be a problem (I am not SA citizen) ?

2 - The problem is that on the summary screen two tickets for the same game were allocated with same (own) details. Actually, I haven't been asked for guest details at all. So I have only the option to resale all or none ... :ohno:

3 - sure. Thought I can also manage it from Mango website somehow ...

They are SO not going to ask for ID at the gates.

This nonsense that the main ticketholder MUST go to the match is rubbish.

They're not going to stop you and your 5 guests at the gate, to check the main ticketholders ID.

If your kids decide to go to the stadium before you, they can't STOP them and say "where is your Dad? you have to wait for him before you can enter."

You could even bring Osama as your guest and they wouldn't care. Just as long as the stupid main ticketholder is there.

There has been many hundreds of personal accounts over the last 20 years of major football tournaments-Euro and WC that has proved this unequivocally-they will not refuse anyone with a legitimate ticket regardless of name, unless intoxicated or anti social
Folks I know can't be bothered having their names put onto tickets even with the option

^^ Tadpole - that graphs makes it very clear that there is absolutely no movement left in tickets for Pol, NMB and Nel - only Rustenberg is showing progress. They are going to have a hard time selling these tickets at this rate.

A strange question but important to me, is only the name of the main ticket holder printed on the ticket or also the ID/passport no?
