Taiyuan

Population: 3,413,800

Taiyuan is one of the great industrial cities of China and lies on the Fen River in the north of its fertile upper basin. It commands the north-south route through Shanxi, as well as important natural lines of communication through the mountains to Hebei province in the east and (via Fenyang) to northern Shaanxi province in the west.

Nice skyline of Taiyuan city, capital of Shanxi province. Taiyuan is an heavy industrial city, it's not rich and got pretty polluted. But things look getting improved.

Skyline itself is rather good- 7/10 for its size... however almost all East Asian cities are quite depressing... often except for the beautiful downtown just like Hong Kong's jungle--- that's often what Chinese urban planner wants, and cities like Taiyuan did it quite successfully for its size.

What does "medium size" by Chinese standards mean?
How many people live in this city?
Anyway lots of buildings.

Why is that the Chinese are building twin towers everywhere?

What's the reason behind their pathetic obsession with twin towers?

What's so good about building 2 identical (hence equally ugly) highrises side by side?

Some kind of traditional Chinese superstition about twins?

how idiotic!
