This master degree looks to me like associate degree program to me. Not much technical at all. This is the main problem Cambodia faced. Not much critical thinking involved in curriculum taught at university level.
It seems most courses teach application rather than development and synthesys. That is the main reason Cambodians don't create many things to sell in the world market.
bokator July 18th, 2010, 02:47 AM I got my BS in Computer Science a few years from Cal State. I took most of those classes in my second years. I don't how advanced those classes are, but it seems like Cambodia needs a higher standard.
kvaaa July 18th, 2010, 03:11 AM This is an International School. It is supposed to be at a higher standard. I am affraid state universities might be worse than this.

I don't know the anglosaxon terms for degree. Does associate degree means two years of study in university ?
Sorry again but what is difference between application and development. For me application is like a software. and development is the coding of the software. So, I can misunderstand
Some part are technical : Programming Language, Data Structure & Algorithm, Advanced Data Structured and Algorithm. With this, you can begin to create a software and database to store data.
After, when they will have skill, they can develop managment ...
It sure it is not the best program but it is a good beginning !
The most important is skill in a company.
This is an International School. It is supposed to be at a higher standard. I am affraid state universities might be worse than this.
Oh I understand maybe what you are thinking.
I don't know the standard of international school. How many years ? Five years ?
But for me, this program is enough for beginners in computers science. Because Cambodia has no training for the moment in this domain. So, we must be patient. Maybe, not for international school, I don"t know.
kvaaa July 18th, 2010, 03:28 PM Associate Degree is a two-year program. Master Degree is a minimum of 6 year-year probgram. Principle courses are taught at junior college level (associate program). When you said "this program is enough for beginners in computer science", this only reinforced my thinking that the program is for beginners and not for advanced degree. Application is the use of an existing software. Development is creating new a software.
My thinking is that an international school awards a degree recognized by other countries. Looking at the curriculum, I am not sure that the Master of Science Degree will be recognized by other countries. I have no intention of degrading anyone's knowledge or training, I only want to see our country develop this field a little more. From what I have heard and read, the government has put a great emphasis on human resource development. I am very happy to know that. I know cambodia has come a long way in the development of higher learning.
KlaKhmer July 18th, 2010, 09:01 PM Thank you for your precision.
Maybe they list only the first two years of the program ? Because effectivly, the program seems to be on two years not six for computer science only !!!
kvaaa July 19th, 2010, 01:11 AM I may have mistaken someone about the 6 year master program. Actually, it is only 2 years beyond the Bachelor Degree. 6 years is after high school.
Asian July 19th, 2010, 09:45 PM This is an International School. It is supposed to be at a higher standard. I am affraid state universities might be worse than this.
I have visited a few famous private international universities such Cambodia University, Norton University for example. To me they are like training or tutorial centers in the west. Small campuses, and only a small number of regular faculties on campus. Some instructors don't even have really BSc and teach courses for Master degree programs if they can speak and read and translate English better than their students. They just read and translate into Khmer. That is why you see there are many stupid and fancy English names for objects like sky bridge for example in Cambodia. A tourist who knows Khmer can do as well. There, all you need is money to get in and you'll get degrees fast then you know anything that you learn. But, they all have connection to the high ranking officials in the government. It is not a bad place to clean money and get the degrees the same time. Having said that there some smart students come out and more knowledgeable and qualified instructors teaching at private universities as well.
But they are far less compared to the state universities, like the Royal Phnom Penh University and the Faculty of Medicine for example. Students have to write entrance exams to get in. There many of students have gone on to study abroad and get higher degrees. So, state universities in Cambodia are more recognized for their higher standard, at least in Cambodia. Private universities have a long way to go because they are all in there for big profit - many rich kids need bad schools.

What I suspect turns into a reality if your assessment is correct. This is the main reason Combodia is not competetive in the international arena when it comes to accomdemia and a host of other things. I heard some schools had to send the examinations to the western country to be graded because the Cambodian instructors were corrupt. This is really sad.

Thank SeeMacau For the new Photos :)
@Kvaaa: This is just a normal private university in Cambodia, not a international 1 as i've known. The previous name was ASEAN University. They changed to PPIU because, I've heard, it's not for all ASEAN all the countries. It was just a name. so they had to change.
I was among the first intake student and I graduated IT there in 2006. I can say the quality is so so while i was study there because we lack of material like computers. However, Some of the lecturers are from RUPP and some graduated from abroad n working in big companies. Most of the first intake students got good jobs.
Sorry I don't know the quality there now. ...:ohno: heard "they are improving"
If anything mistake, i'm sorry

The rector and chairman of the board of directors at Phnom Penh International University have been arrested after being accused of embezzling more than US$4 million from local tycoon Kok An.
Heng Chheang, chairman of the board at PPIU, was charged with breach of trust on Monday at Phnom Penh Municipal Court, while his wife, rector Tep Kolap, is accused of serving as his accomplice, investigating judge Te Sam Ang said yesterday.
The pair were arrested in Preah Sihanouk province last week by police from the Ministry of Interior based on a complaint filed by Kok An on June 17, Te Sam Ang added.
Heng Chheang had served as deputy director of Kok An’s Anco Company, founded in 1993.
“Heng Chheang was officially charged with breach of trust at Anco Company, and his wife is charged with being his accomplice,” Te Sam Ang said.
“They were arrested and charged based on allegations that they transferred money from the company’s accounts into their own accounts for their own use.”
The two are now being held at Prey Sar prison in Phnom Penh.
“The date of their trial has not yet been set,” Te Sam Ang said.
“I am still working on investigating and researching their case in order to prepare for their trial.”
Pen Kosal, a penal police officer at the Interior Ministry, said that according to Kok An’s complaint, Heng Chheang was hired as chief of accounting at Anco in the early1990s.
He allegedly became deputy director of the firm in 2004 before being fired in 2010 after the company accused him of embezzling funds.
Heng Chheang allegedly transferred more than US$4 million to his and his wife’s accounts, Pen Kosal said, adding that they had used these funds to purchase a plot of land in Prampi Makara district in 2006 in order to construct Phnom Penh International University.
Lawyers for the suspects could not be reached for comment yesterday, nor could Kok An.
Anco is responsible for locally distributing products including Budweiser beer, 555 cigarettes and Evian water, according to the company’s website.
Kok An also serves as a senator from the ruling Cambodian People’s Party.
According to the Phnom Penh International University website, Heng Chheang and Tep Kolap presided over a Khmer New Year celebration at the university in April.

Construction has stopped, but not finish.
But it is open.
This is why i said is odd.
LuvKhm3r April 29th, 2012, 05:51 PM ^^...so the school is open?..huh..strange..I wouldn't want to attend this school. Are they going to continue the construction or they just going the leave its the way it is?
mrfusion April 29th, 2012, 06:16 PM The PP International University sign is up.
The main foyer is all light up and open, if the bottom floor is ready, might as well make good use of it, when the time comes to continue construction, then that is even better news.
LuvKhm3r April 30th, 2012, 04:39 AM Oh, I see....great..:)

AsianDragons January 30th, 2013, 02:36 AM is this building complete yet because they said there were corruption allegetions with the owner or something like that
mrfusion January 30th, 2013, 04:38 AM I haven't see any construction activities for month, possibly over a year. A crane is installed at the front, but I think is for the site next door.
