Nice photos. That whole area on both sides of the border is really beautiful. I wouldn't describe the mountains as alpine though - snowfall on them would be a pretty rare event.

About 6 years ago, Springbrook in the Gold Coast hinterland actually got a small amount of snow.

For the mountains in the Gold Coast hinterland to be described as ''alpine'' the region would need to have a sustainable alpine environment, last time i checked it does'nt..

Lamington National Park, 45 minutes from Surfers, 1 and a half hours from Brisbane would have to be my favourite place on the planet. If anyone wants a great day walk then I would highly recommend the Albert Creek Circuit -> a great day filling walk at 21 kms. The walk has an incredible number of waterfalls and one of the most spectacular lookouts to boot.

FFS he is a kid - he used the term "alpine" loosely. Clearly it is not.

But thanks again for another constructive contribution. Tosser.

Yes, clearly its not, and for a local ''kid'' to describe it as ''alpine'' is still laughable :bash:

Broadie wrote it. I don't know why people are taking it so seriously. The only place in QLD I can think of that it snows is at Stanthorpe on the Granite Belt -- and even that is on rare occasions and it is no alpine region either.

Is this the most mountainous region in Australia?

No it's not. The Australian Alps are. The Alps straddle the border of Victoria and NSW. All of Australia's commercial snow fields (apart from a few small ones in Tasmania)are also here.

I this the most mountainous region in Australia?

No but its probably one of the most ecologically diverse and beautiful. There is some remnant vegetation from the last ice age which only survives on certain high peaks - including Mt Warning. Some of the vegetation resembles that of Tasmania or New Zealand while other parts are like North Queensland. Its quite amazing to start walking say and go from sub-tropical palms and rainforet to dry ecucalypt forists and then into temperate heath lands.

Austrlalia has plenty of other mountains but nothing like South America or New Zealand. North Queensland is pretty amazing and Western Australia and Northern Territory have some amazing mountains out in the desert.

Tasmania is also a class act when it comes to spectacular scenery and mountains.

It's amazing! I live down towards the Gold Coast but have only explored a small part of the hinterland unfortunately, something I hope to change in the future! What is even more amazing is when you go down the back of the hinterland and end up around the Beaudesert area, that's a completely different ecological area again.

We do have some great spots in South East Queensland!

Head up to O'Reilly's in Lamington NP some time. There are some really great walks up there stretching out to up to 30kms if you want a good work out (my favourite is the 21km Albert Creek Circuit -> waterfalls + a spectacular look-out through to Mt Warning). The whole of that area is just the most spectacular sub-tropical and temperate rain forest.
