The Governador Placido Aderaldo Castelo Stadium was built from 1969 to 1973 and was renovated from 2000 to 2002. Now it is getting a second renovation project for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Marin Mostar May 3rd, 2011, 12:10 AM I am amazed how much the uper tier overhangs the lower one. Maybe it`s to cover as much as posible seats/palces considering that the roof 50 years ago couldn`t be as big as it is`s posible nowdays. This is not the only one stadion with this kind of design an as I see it, it is tipical for Brasil alongside the oval shape.

Benn June 16th, 2011, 06:37 PM The new renders look very nice; elegant curve to the stands, sharp sightlines, relatively close to the pitch, nice, if a little cold looking exterior. Its good to see some of these designs improving, I just wish I could say the same thing about the Maracana...

It does add some constraints in terms of design possibilities but other than the Maracana the rest of the renovations (especially Castelao) seem very sensible in terms of scope, amenities, appearance and and cost, to me at least.

CASTELÃO - Governo do Estado realiza, mais uma vez, visita guiada com 200 internautas para conhecer as obras do estádio. Recebidos pelo ex-jogador de futebol e embaixador da Copa do Mundo Fifa 2014 no Ceará, Mirandinha, o grupo conheceu, nesta manhã, o projeto e o canteiro de obras.

CASTELÃO - Durante visita guiada à arena multiuso, na manhã de hoje, internautas puderam tirar dúvidas sobre a obra e os usos do equipamento, que deverá ser concluído em dezembro deste ano. O grupo esteve reunido no auditório do estádio, que funcionará também como sala de cinema, beneficiando principalmente a população do entorno do Castelão.

O blog cliques da vida, mais uma vez esteve presente na 2ª Visita Guiada em parceria com a fan page do estado do Ceará e os internautas. Dessa vez, um sábado bastante produtivo, pois conhecemos de perto o andamento da obra do estádio castelão onde será sede dos jogos da copa do mundo em 2014.

CASTELÃO - A partir desta segunda-feira (03), cearenses e turistas que visitarem o Estado terão a oportunidade de reviver a história do futebol cearense com a inauguração do Espaço Cultural Arena Castelão. Às 09h30min o Governador Cid Gomes, acompanhado do secretário Especial da Copa, Ferruccio Feitosa, inaugura o Espaço Cultural, que fica instalado no Edifício Central da Arena e mostrará as histórias dos grandes clássicos e de seus protagonistas em uma área total de 1.800m². No local, os visitantes terão a oportunidade de preservar a memória do futebol cearense, ao mesmo tempo em que acompanharão o andamento das obras do palco para a Copa das Confederações 2013 e a Copa do Mundo da FIFA Brasil 2014™. Para além do esporte, o Espaço Cultural Arena Castelão será também palco para diversas manifestações culturais, com uma área especialmente dedicada às artes plásticas. A abertura contará com exposição “Revirando Meus Segredos”, do artista plástico cearense, Mano Alencar.

A visita constou de um café da manha (até gostoso), uma apresentação feita pelo secretário Ferruccio.. A melhor parte da apresentação foi quando ele estava apresentando a equipe e estava apresentando a prefeita da obra e disse...
_ "Essa aqui eh a prefeita da obra, muito competente, trabalhadora e tem ajudado muito para que tudo venha funcionando direito na construção"...

Meu povo, voces me matam do coração, eu vi ontem a imagem publicada aqui da fachada do castelão e fiquei assustado com aquele brilho, dai eu fiquei TÃO CURIOSO, pra ver se realmente estava daquele jeito e peguei o carro e fui bater lá no castelão pra ver se tinha ficado diferente do que foi proposto. :lol:

Algumas informações interessantes, é que realmente a carenagem vai até lá em cima como no render, inclusive segundo ele tbm estara naquele primeiro nivel atrás do portico tbm, como no render, o telão como eu falei não vai ser posto na frente do prédio fifa, vão ficar cada um atrás do gol mesmo. Daqui a 20 dias a grama já vai levar o primeiro corte. O Restaurante do outro lado do prédio fifa tbm será panorâmico com vista para o campo, e os restaurantes que serão instalados no lugar do museu permaneceram lá, o museu vai ser novamente instalado na sala de mediaroom, que é ampla e vai ficar sem utilidade depois da copa.
OBS: Vejam nas imagens que o anel inferior já está praticamente todo instalado as bases das cadeiras. E o Superior vai ser iniciado em breve mais já está em preparação.

Rossoliver December 11th, 2012, 01:33 PM I think they've done an excellent job with this stadium. It looks to be well thought out, with very very few (if any?) restricted view seats - something that crops up far too often with modern stadiums when you consider the financial outlays involved.

Acho que deveriam ter escolhido uma cor mais marcante.

SECURITY SYSTEM AT THE CASTELÃO HAS 240 CAMERAS
Command centre will control the access of people and vehicles into the stadium in Fortaleza
A paramount focus during the construction of the Castelão Arena, the stadium's security system is ready to be put in operation when the ground is delivered this Sunday (16.12). There will be 240 surveillance cameras positioned in strategic places, in the external and internal areas. Images are monitored by a high tech command system, centralised in an over 200 square metres room. The centre will operate for 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The command room will also control people’s access into the stadium, including the 144 turnstiles for the general public, the VIP area and the seats for people with special needs. From the command centre, it is possible to open gates and adjust the temperature in the rooms.
“This centre will also generate the images that will be shown on the big screens and announcements made through the sound system”, said Silvio Andrade, President of the Castelão Arena, in charge of the ground's refurbishment and operation until 2018.
In addition to monitoring, the arena will also have security teams with fixed and mobile posts, who will check all areas. In an emergency, the stadium’s maximum evacuation time has been estimated in eight minutes.
The stadium also has police stations and Public Prosecution Bureaus, as well as Ministry of Justice Offices, in exclusive areas.
Health
The Castelão Arena will have an area reserved for the medical care of fans and professionals at work at the ground. The structure has a health clinic at the ground floor and rooms on all levels of the stadium where emergency procedures may be conducted.

Not yet confirmed.
Total capacity seems to be of 67.037 seats (including press etc.). And for selling at the FIFA World Cup they say there will be 63.903 seats avilible for ticketing. It will be confirmed soon, I imagine.

And I don't buy that "developing country" argument, because that Basra Stadium that you've mentioned in your post has a VERY BIG screen. Will you say that post-war Iraq is richer or more developed than Brazil? You simply can't say that. The 2010 WC Stadiums in South Africa had very big screens too. Google the "Soccer City" Stadium, for example. Is South Africa "more developed" than Brazil? Hardly.
In addition, I trully believe that the Basra Stadium has a better design and is better overall than Mineirao. If you don't agree with me, please tell me which aspects of Mineirao do you think that are better. And we can have a proper discussion. Please note that Basra complex is not only an "Athletics Stadium", read the description below:
"The 360-acre project will be developed in phases. The first phase features a 65,000-seat stadium and a 10,000-seat secondary stadium/practice facility designed to FIFA (international soccer) and Olympic (track and field) standards. It also includes four training facilities, athlete housing facilities, a fire station and helipad, among other items."

If the other WC stadiums also have small screens, then please make the adequate comparisons. Compare the Stade de France screen with the Maracana screen, not with the Castelao screen. A smaller stadium will require a smaller screen, too. In this case Castelao is considerably smaller because it's both a smaller capacity and the stands are close to the pitch.
I don't buy your arguments, either. We know that Iraq has been in war and civil war, but we know it's a massive oil country, too. And we know that South Africa has a large poor population, but we also know that the "other" South Africa exists and it's quite rich too. Regardless, any developing country has the right to invest public funds in unessential projects the way they like it, not how we, from the richer countries, think. At long as they fulfill the minimal FIFA standards then it's perfectly fine.
Finally, I still don't see the point in comparing the whole Basra complex with the Mineirao stadium, it's logical to compare the Mineirao stadium to the Basra stadium. Actually the only logical thing to do would be to compare the Iraq national sports complex with Brazil's top sports complex, the one in Rio. But let's leave that and compare the Mineirao with the Basra stadium, then. Mineirao has a great modernist design, that makes me think of an awe-inspiring spaceship. It is an extremely influential design that has been used again in other projects such as Paris' Parc de Princes, Seoul's Olympic Stadium, San Sebastian stadium etc. You know it's a great design when the French get inspiration from it. Basra has a good outside design, which is IMO held down a bit by the uninspiring surroundings. I hope that changes in time. At the inside it is an extremely unremarkable athletics stadium, which comes nowhere near the iconicity of the Brazilian round bowls. If it will be able to compare with the Mineirao, we'll only know in time, if it creates a design legacy.

So far these are the only two stadiums with the screen installed and operational.

First of all, it's not only this 2014 world cup stadium that has a very small screen. All the other 2014 WC stadiums have very small screens as well. I've been following the construction of every single one. Yes, even the more "important" and larger ones have very small screens.
And I don't buy that "developing country" argument, because that Basra Stadium that you've mentioned in your post has a VERY BIG screen. Will you say that post-war Iraq is richer or more developed than Brazil? You simply can't say that. The 2010 WC Stadiums in South Africa had very big screens too. some of these wc 2014 stadiums are just disapponting...but they will do
just fine in event.... we're not expecting it to be the greatest WC ever stadiums wise!

Total capacity seems to be of 67.037 seats (including press etc.). And for selling at the FIFA World Cup they say there will be 63.903 seats avilible for ticketing. It will be confirmed soon, I imagine.

~64.000 tickets availible for seling at the 2013 Confederations Cup and at the 2014 Word Cup.
~67.000 after the Cups, once the massive press seating space will be reconverted into regular seling seats for the public, expanding the seling capacity back to 67.000.
