I need some advise. I have a wireless internet (3G) contract with vodacom. I can download 2G a month and it is costing me about R430 per month. If 2G is not enough and I want to download at least 4G per month, would it be cheaper to get MWEB (uncapped) or just upgrade my vodacom internet contract?

Lydon would be best to answer this question. Especially since I think he knows best about the recent data boosts, speed upgrades, and price cuts done by Vodacom.

Personally I would go for MWeb, but if you don't download that much and you move around alot (and you need mobile internet) then Vodacom.

MWeb all the way :)

I've been running on 384Kbps most of the month (we were just upgraded to 512Kbps finally), and I've downloaded over 26gigs since the 6th of April  All that for R219 from MWeb (excluding Telkom line rental).

If you don't mind the speed/portability sacrifice in exchange for a whole lot more data, then go for it.

ok...but what is the best choice for someone that cannot get adsl in their building?

Depends on your usage. iBurst would probably be your best bet. I'd recommend Neotel but I've heard some pretty scary stuff regarding their service.

Sadly if you can't get ADSL your options for cheap internet are pretty limited, but yeah, investigate iBurst I say. Otherwise bug whoever the hell is preventing you from getting ADSL in your building.

But shouldn't Vodacom be better now than iBurst due to recent changes?

Sorry, haven't been up to date with iBurst...

For high-usage clients, the mobile phone networks still leave much to be desired.

Thanks guys, this really helps. How much is Telkom line rental (for my home) and must I ask them for a ADSL Line?

I am with Mweb... on the 4mb Uncapped account and I've pulled just over 270GBs this month so far.. (I know I know)....

The more data you use, the more sense it makes to get ADSL since none of the wireless guys can come close in terms of cost.

I would investigate Iburst, then mtn/Vodacom, and only as a LAST resort think about Neotel...

OK looks like MTN is far cheaper than Vodacom according to one of today's My Broadband articles. So investigate iBurst first, then MTN then Vodacom to whose who want/have to go wireless.

Get an all-inclusive package from MWeb. They'll help you get set up with all you'll need and you'll pay less if you get everything through them as opposed to getting the line through Telkom and the account through MWeb.

MTN is cheaper, but a friend has it and the service is terrible. I usually got higher speeds than him and more coverage when I used to have my vodacom internet. Might have improved since then?

Funny...I'm a Vodacom subscriber but I always hear about people saying that MTN is better than Vodacom quality and speed-wise on My Broadband. When were you a Voda subscriber?

My contract ended early this year and I didn't renew it. Maybe it depends on the area? BTW:
