View Full Version : Modelrailroad and highrise
Liberty City April 26th, 2010, 02:20 PM I opened a long time ago a topic on the Dutch forum about modelrailroad and highrise.
As I have a modelrailroad layout u/c, I was looking around for highrise buildings in the correct scale (1:87 cm/ H0). Of course, a building from 200 meters is too large for this scale, but sometimes you can cheat while using 1:100 cm scale for example.
I found just one manufacturer on the internet specialised in highrise building for modelrailroad layouts; CMRtrain.com.
Does anybody knows if there are more manufacturers? Or does anyone have experience with highrise in modelrailroad layouts?
Liberty City April 28th, 2010, 08:41 AM Appologies to bump this topic. I would like to add a picture from the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. They have a great layout.

Ocean Railroader June 22nd, 2011, 04:25 PM The Model company City Classics makes five story downtown buildings that are very easy to Kit bash into 20 and 50 story tall skycrapers.

Ocean Railroader June 23rd, 2011, 01:55 AM Here is a link to the city classics website http://cityclassics.fwc-host.com/ The four downtown buildings that are five stories eatch that you will see at the top of the page are the ones that I have been using for my skycrapers at home. If you look at say a photo of New York City and of these four buildings if you look closelly you will see that a lot of the skycrapers and these four five story building fronts will look the same. At home I have a 15 story tall skycraper being build made from a dozen of the Baum Blvd Art Deco building kits that have been kit bashed into one another to make the base for the skycraper. I also have a 50 story skycraper being built made out of the Penn Ave Tile front building parts.
Liberty City June 23rd, 2011, 08:31 AM Many thanks! I will take a look over it. More tips maybe? :)
Ocean Railroader June 28th, 2011, 01:43 AM I'm getting ready to kit bash several Benchman Metropolatian buildings togetter into a five foot tall plus skycraper that will be at least 40 stories tall. Right now I'm waiting on the kits to come in off of ebay though the mail.
Some of the best models to get can also be DPM models too in that their kits are also easy to kit bash too.
How I make a skycraper is that I take two buildings from the same kit cut off the rim around the roof seciton on the kit that will be the base of the building. Then I cut off the bottom part of the upper part of the building that is where the lobby part of the building is at and glue them togetter on top of one another.
You could really build up a great city of high rises if you where to buy one or two kits off of ebay or from the local hobby shops and watch over time as your city sky line grows over a year or two depenidng on how big your city's master plans are.
Liberty City June 29th, 2011, 10:27 AM Many thanks :) I think you mean Bachmann instead of Benchman?
I started to kitbash the Ambassador Hotel of Bachmann :)

Liberty City July 9th, 2011, 11:47 AM Does anyone knows if this (http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/dpm/dpm50700.htm) kit is available in H0. It is from DPM.

Ocean Railroader August 26th, 2011, 11:07 PM As that N scale kit DPM makes a kit somewhat like it called the Car dealership kit which looks a lot like that. I took three of the Car Dealership kits plus one that I had around on my train set for over six years and kitbased it into a five story wherehouse like building.

Here is a photo of one of my lovely HO scale 20 story plus skycrapers that I'm right now building for my HO scale train set model of the New York City like city called Diamond City which is the home town of Lottomaster's brother.
This building was kit based from three Bachmann HO Metropolitan Buildings that where collected off of Ebay over a few months and glued and cut into this lovely skycraper
As for why I call it the Princess Celestia building is that if you look chosely at the golden leaf windows you will see little suns rising up under eatch of the window panes. Along with that I have another building almost like it that is more darker colored and will call it the Luna Building. I have plans of putting up small statues of Princess Luna and Princess Celestia on the roofs of these to buildings looking like those metal pony statues at the Gillia epsoide facing one another on the roofs of the buildings.
Most HO scale buildings are only two to five stories tall but this one was made out of several model building kits to make it over 20 stories tall. But I could still get more model building kits for it and made it even taller if I wanted to.
