I noticed last week that the Thunderbolt Rollercoaster has disappeared from Dreamworld. Anyone know what is happening to it? I hope its just being restored!!

Its gone for good. It was too old and obviously cost too much too maintain. I'll miss it for being an icon, but the last time I rode on it, I had a terrible headache afterwards. Anyway, a new ride is currently under construction at Dreamworld. There isn't a name for it yet, but this is what it will look like:

Early plans for the Dreamworld site are for about 3/4 new rides in the next couple of years. Probably a few kiddie ones, and hopefully a decent thrill ride or a new coaster.

it was an icon.. but it was so old and rickety and rough. I went on it fairly recently... I went on the cyclone strait after and i noticed an immense difference..

a replica of it would be good though

Wow that is big news, the first I had heard of it.

When Dreamworld opened the Thunderbolt was the big attraction, I was there on the first day it opened. I went to Dreamworld a few years ago and I did think that it looked a little rundown and unloved. They do need a rollercoaster, but maybe something smaller, like the Corkscrew, which was Seaworlds answer back in the 80's to Dreamworld.

On the Thunderbolt, once you had climbed to the top, checked out the view, did the dive and the loops, the rest of it was a bit ordinary, and it was long, the longest in Australia.

Whilst looking for that picture, I found something saying the the Big Dipper from Sydney's Luna Park is going to Dreaworld, is that true?

If the big dipper was coming up here than we'd just be taking all Luna Park's Rollercoasters off them. The Cyclone was from Luna Park too.

Well I will miss the old Thunderbolt, as much as I like the smooth ride of the Cyclone, the Thunderbolt was a great coaster. Maybe one of the QLD parks will buy the old Spider named coaster (cant remember the real name) from Wonderland. It should come back to QLD where it originally stood as the Titan at Expo88.

^^

I dont get why places have to buy old coasters from other parks. Dreamworld has enough money to develop and build their own unique rides and coasters.

Like others, I'm pleased to see the Thunderbolt go. Growing up in Brisbane I was lucky to vist Dreamworld relatively frequently (once every couple of years). When I was old enough to ride on it (late 80s) it was great. I loved it. But as the years went by it seem to get rougher and rougher - until I rode it once in 2001 and I got off thinking - that wasn't even fun. It just knocked me around for 2 minutes.

The Corkscrew at Seaworld has always been my favourite - so smooth. But the prize must go to Lethal Weapon - it's just a pitty it's one of only a few good things at Movieworld.

I haven't been on the cyclone yet (I saw it in pieces on the ground in 2001 before it was built) so I will have to try it.

Still, the coasters here don't really compare to US coasters. Some of the ones at Disneyland were great, because they do the whole multimedia thing with music and stuff.

Not it's not, the Claw is between Wipeout and the entrance. The Thunderbolt site is bare atm.

Yep, rumor is that a new water park may be built on the old thunderbolt site, but its just a rumor at this stage.
